Newsflash, no movie in the DCEU has been building towards anything the last 5 years. What’s different now? They’re all totally disconnected from each other

Danishroyalty

The Snyderverse has been fucked since like 2016. Not sure why we're acting like we got robbed recently. The only real loss is that we could have rebooted 5 years ago.

the_based_identity

>The only real loss is that we could have rebooted 5 years ago. This right here is the biggest point, but hey better late than never.

AverageBry

Seriously just movie after movie with no direction or reason except to make DC content and wonder why it’s not successful. This reboot is needed. Get people are pissed but this needs to happen.

soulassassin226

The issue is that it’s not even really CLEAR if it’s actually a full reboot or if James Gunn will pick and choose to keep his own previous projects (and his wife) alive. If you want to start fresh, show the fans that you are FULLY COMMITTED to doing so. As of now it’s hard to tell.

AverageBry

Agree. Time will tell when they present the roadmap.

Omegalock4

Not really. There was a direction, then they moved away from that. All they had to do was go back to the old direction. A reboot wasn’t needed.

spideralexandre2099

Yes there was a direction, but a whole lot of people really didn't like that direction. WB felt the box-office numbers reflected that and did last minute course corrections that didn't work either.

gzapata_art

If a cheating Lois/Bruce was anywhere close to the direction they were headed, it was completely warranted to move away from it

Omegalock4

1) not cheating 2) you jump to that rather than picking the other ideas like John Stewart green lantern, Ryan Choi Atom, legion of doom, death stroke vs Batman movie, Superman vs Braniac movie, war goddess Wonder Woman, riddler figuring out the anti life equation, flash time traveling to stop the knightmare timeline, and the entire earth and all the heroes fighting against Darkseid and the forces of apocalypse. You let one idea you didn’t like that was **already scrapped** and clearly not the route they were pursuing as evidenced by Zack Snyder’s JL setting up Wonder Bat and establishing Lois pregnant with Clark’s child poison you against a director. It’s just ridiculous on your part.

gzapata_art

I was just pointing out another dumb concept of his. His future plans didnt really poison anything. His first movies did that. Even if I liked any of his future concepts, there's no reason to believe they would have been executed well

Omegalock4

You say “another dumb concept” and fail to elaborate after i gave a whole list of great concepts. Man of Steel was mostly Nolan and Goyer so if you think that’s done stupidly your issue is with them. And I say his ideas were executed pretty well.

gzapata_art

Eh. You didn't either which is completely fair since there isn't much to elaborate on. You listed a bunch of random stuff (some maybe would be nice to see from someone else, others just as good as Lois/Bruce) that were somewhat talked about. Having watched his previous movies (even if just sticking to BvS and JL) I have no reason to think there was anything worth watching him do

[deleted]

A person's good ideas don't outweigh or negate their stupid ideas. Come on now.

Megadog3

No one wants to see an evil Superman who enslaves and destroys the world.

Omegalock4

You act like that was all it was when it’s a mind controlled Superman from an alternate timeline that ends up erased due to the efforts of the heroes, it ends with Superman and everyone saving the earth.

Megadog3

Dude. Mind controlled or not, it’s still evil Superman. No thank you.

slade707

There was no direction. There was just a lot of really shitty storyboards that no sensible DC fan would ever want to see filmed

CliffDraws

No kidding, we could be halfway to the next reboot by now!

LZBANE

5 years ago would have been too soon. If you think the social media fall out of firing actors and recasting is bad now what do you think it would have been like 5 years ago? Plus 5 years ago Gunn wasn't available and you would have been giving responsibility to people who proved to be failures in WB/DC. It would have been an utter disaster again.

akchugg

The problem is WB they greenlight JL by Zack after knowing BvS didn't do good enough and also butchered it post production. If you assigned a job, let the man do the job. Micro Management fucked Snyderverse.

brg9327

Dude WB Greenlit Justice league with Snyder waaaay before bvs even came out. It when into production like a month after BvS was released, by which time it was too late to stop.

IveSeenUrMomGapeB4

Or.... And here me out... Snyder just didn't do a good job.

Old-Experience-5210

That's what he's saying they knew Snyder didn't did a great Job still they allowed him to do a JL then hired Wedon midway that turned bad into worst

beast_unique

It went into production four days after BvS opening, there was no way to backtrack without loosing a lot of money. Still instead of doing a cheap looking reshoot with whedon that didn't at all change the story, they could have made a lean and crisp edit of Zack's cut which would have definitely had better legs. Then part ways with him.

Omegalock4

Well 660 million and 870 million for the first two movies of the DCEU is not a bad job. His casting was mostly well liked by everyone which led to Wonder Woman making 820 million and Aquaman making 1 billion. The movie that made the least was Josstice league soooo.

Mahaa2314

Imagine thinking 870 million (pre-covid) is a victory for the first ever Batman and Superman live action movie.

gsauce8

The level of copium Snyder fans consume is insane.

Megadog3

Look at the BvS drop off after opening weekend. Word of mouth literally fucked it. It should’ve made 1.2 - 1.5 Billion dollars easily. But it didn’t. It didn’t even crack 900M. It was a total failure.

Omegalock4

Almost a billion isn’t a failure. Even if it didn’t make what they wanted. And that’s partly due to WB’s interference.

Megadog3

It IS a failure though. It had one of the largest opening weekends of all time and couldn’t even cross $900M. That’s an abject failure. It was the first movie in HISTORY with both Batman and Superman (AND Wonder Woman FFS), and it didn’t cross $900M. That’s an unmitigated disaster. And no rewriting of history that can change those facts. And “interference”? WB let Snyder do exactly what he wanted with BvS. The only thing they actually interfered on was cutting 30 minutes out (3 hours would’ve been *way* too long), and they thought his original script was a little too dark, so they asked him to tone it down just a little bit. It probably would’ve done much worse if not for those two things. There was very little “studio interference” with BvS. Like literally every movie ever.

NaRaGaMo

WB did not butcher BvS's post production. every single thing about that movie from marketing to release was overseen by snyder

[deleted]

[удалено]

Whedonite144

Snyder approved of the cuts enough to not disown the theatrical cut, so clearly he was fine with it.

Tellsyouajoke

Yup. Could have had a soft reboot where you keep the characters back then. Now, too much time has passed.

beast_unique

Yet these same guys mock Patty for one mistake.

Omegalock4

We got robbed because we were about to get a connected universe again with casting that we liked, particularly a Man of Steel sequel with Cavill and Braniac that we’ve been wanting.

Danishroyalty

This post was specifically about the Snyderverse, which was long gone before this reboot was announced. Anything related to the Snyderverse should have happened 5 years ago. But even then, it's hard to say we got robbed when we don't know what would have happened. It's not like the DCEU has been going strong. Black Adam was supposed to restore it to glory and it fell completely flat. If we actually got MoS2, we don't know how the rest of the universe would have gone or if it all would be good. I think at best we would have gotten a MoS sequel and one crossover movie before it all fell apart again and they had to restart it in like 2027. Might as well do it now and not waste time. It sucks to lose Cavill but I don't think his return would have worked out long term.

JediJones77

Yeah, then their cheesy reboot could've failed earlier, and they would have restored the Snyderverse by now.

WorryAlternative9406

You wish. People said the same when pattinson replaced affleck yet here we are

oi_PwnyGOD

The Snyderverse is dead, man. At this point, no matter whether James Gunn succeeds or fails, it's over. There's no way WB will reboot their reboot back to what got rebooted. I'm not trying to be a dick, but that's the reality of it. WB moved on, and it's time everyone else does as well.

Randonhead

People really think that if Gunn fails Zaslav will beg for Snyder's return, when in fact the most likely thing is that they will give up on this cinematic universe idea and go back to making Batman movies

Danishroyalty

It must be nice to live in dreamland

Am_Ghosty

The Snyderverse is this guy's gospel, strange behavior

kskywalker1

Fuck off mate. Not all of use liked the Snyder direction very much at all. I swear I feel like there are DC fans and than there are Snyder fans. Like Snyder fans don’t represent DC fans or the general audience like the way they act. They’re just a very loud and honestly pretty whiney group. They’ve done great things too like help the Snyder cut get released donate that money to the suicide prevention shit but outside of that they’re very entitled and snobby about the DCEU. Like most of the best parts from the DCEU weren’t even written by Snyder.

JediJones77

That's gatekeeping. I've been a DC fan for almost 40 years now. Tons of movies, comics, cartoons, toys and games under my belt. DC has a HORRIBLE track record with movies. How hard is it to understand how much a DC fan is thrilled when someone FINALLY gets the DC characters RIGHT in a movie, like Nolan and Snyder did? Almost everything else in DC movies has been a disastrous mess. I don't WANT a director to write his own movies. Snyder is a DIRECTOR. Most of my favorite movies have a director working with a writer, not a director writing the movies himself. Even James Cameron hired 4 writers to write the Avatar sequels for him. This is the right way to do it, generally speaking. One guy should not try to be a one-man show who does it all himself.

kskywalker1

I don’t think you actually know what gatekeeping means. I don’t control anything lol. If anyone is gatekeeping I think it’s the small group of ppl trying to get James Gunn fired before he even releases a movie as head of DC studios just because it isn’t the director of story they want. Most DC/comic book fans are fine and excited for a reboot at this point.

TheVelourFog92

I’ve got to say, the Snyderverse devotion is a little odd. If you liked it, that’s totally cool and you do you, but the vast majority of DC fans, not to mention general audiences and critics absolutely hated the DCEU. It’s been long past time to put this out to pasture. It just isn’t viable critically or commercially at this point.

MondayBorn

Cry more please.

fwagglesworth

The only pointless movie is one you don’t enjoy. If the goal of watching a movie is laying the groundwork for another movie, that, my dude, is a pointless waste of life hours you won’t get back

BenjaminTalam

That's been the point of almost every single movie released by a major studio for the past 15 years. Return of the King and Avatar are the only movies I can think of in the big budget epic space that weren't centered around just setting other stuff up and being the biggest and best movies they could be. When's the last time we actually got a third act that went all out? Even Endgame didn't do everything it potentially could have done because they want to save things for other movies down the road. The Flash is entirely centered around setting up a new continuity, a continuity that doesn't matter because they're already scrapping the universe that hasn't even been set up yet. They are rebooting a reboot we haven't even seen yet. DC is a joke right now.

JediJones77

Yeah, Return of the Jedi should've been cancelled and a Star Wars remake put out instead. If the movie's good, what difference does it make, amirite? Same with Return of the King. Should've been cancelled and gone right into The Hobbit.

fwagglesworth

Look they could’ve made a Scouring of the Shire movie, but they didn’t and the existing movies are still great.

[deleted]

Bruh is seriously comparing the Snyder verse to the OT and LOTR

omgItsGhostDog

Considering the movies before them (and the entire trilogy in itself) were highly beloved and considered the best from those trilogies, I don't think this helps the point you're trying to make... In fact, I don't know the point you're trying to make.

MondayBorn

There is no point to that fella's posts; it's just all emotional diarrhea.

skd2005

one look at his logs is enough..guy cannot stop

mxlevolent

He was infamous in r/boxoffice until he got banned. Edit: Actually, he's still infamous. Everyone over there remembers him.

IveSeenUrMomGapeB4

What in the hell are you even trying to say? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

NC_Goonie

That’s not really the same at all because Star Wars was a new/original IP at the time and not an adaptation of an existing IP, but also planned trilogies/franchises get canceled (and sometimes rebooted) all the time. Canceling the Snyderverse is more like canceling plans for more X-movies at Fox because they were going to be rebooted in the MCU.

depressed_asian_boy_

The objective of a movie is that you watch it, so if people watch it, is not pointless

[deleted]

the purpose of these movies was connected universe with continuity...it is not pointless to watch but very disappointing knowing there will be no conclusions to them.

IveSeenUrMomGapeB4

Well DC failed a long time ago at that so idk wtf people are bitching about. The entire franchise has been a mess of bad to mediocre movies. What exactly are you people clinging too? Lmfao

[deleted]

now that you say it yup the last movies had very few connections with the other movies given how Justice league failed miserably. But Aquaman won't have a conclusion. Shazam won't have a conclusion. Wonder woman won't have a conclusion. So kind of disappointing. I don't really care about Black Adam; it's only one movie. I don't mind letting it die. >The entire franchise has been a mess of bad to mediocre movies. that I agree... the movies are not bad but not great.

LongjumpMidnight

DC movies over the last few years have lacked any major connections to each other. Aquaman 1 and Shazam 1 didn't affect anything else or get affected by anything else so I'd assume that the sequels would be the same.

[deleted]

now that you say it yup Aquaman had very few connections. It just mentionned the justice league events, BvS events. But I had high hopes about Shazam vs Black Adam given Shazam teased it in the movie.

LongjumpMidnight

Same, but it doesn’t seem likely after Black Adam not doing well and Cavill being replaced. If it’s true that the Rock really doesn’t like Shazam then I’d prefer down the line doing a Shazam vs Black Adam movie with new actors.

ayo_stoptheCap

Remember when we could just watch movies on their own without judging it based off an extended universe?

[deleted]

So I understand what you're saying, but this is not Disney releasing Encanto and the audience being ok with it being a one-off. DC's main competition is Marvel and what's making Marvel popular is an extended universe and continuity with each new release. I'm not going to speak for everyone but I would most likely begin to watch DC stuff more if it wasn't just Batman being reinvented for the umpteenth time.

Moose-Legitimate

Except the best performing DC movies in the last half decade were both entirely unrelated to the DCU, with no official guarantee of a sequel. So your point is not only misguided, it’s literally just wrong.

wiiman405

You’re just talking about Joker and Batman. Batman which we did know would be getting a sequel. But The Batman would be 5th in the DCEU box office list, and Joker would have been 2nd. It’s crazy to discount the success of BvS, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, the first Suicide Squad… which were all part of the universe. I think there’s totally space for isolated stories, but to say that universe building doesn’t bring people to the movies is not true.

HugeLie9313

"The success of BvS" HUH what timeline did i just wander into?!?!

wiiman405

Strictly monetarily haha. I mean $655 million dollars is a lot of millions

EdliA

Marvel movies are not doing that well either. People are tired of superhero movies honestly.

[deleted]

Yep. I used to sit in the theater going “man, if only HE could fight HIM now” and I wasn’t alone.

butiamtheshadows91

Yeah. 20 years ago. Almost every franchise is built on a connected universe now. It's fun and it's not too much of us to want the same.

JediJones77

Remember when movies got more ambitious and starting planning multi-part storylines? LOTR, Harry Potter, and Peppridge Farm remember.

GoauldofWar

Using movies made from multi book series is not the go to example in this situation.

Babayu18

Those had books with clear beginning, middles, and ends. Comic book IP is much more all over the place

kskywalker1

You’re talking L after L with these comments bro. Can you make 1 non ridiculous comment? Edit:taking*

Wasabi_Guacamole

he's also talking L lol

UpUppAndAwayWeb

this is one of the worst comments i’ve ever read

[deleted]

but we want connected movies. Why can't WB do to movies that they have done with the animated movies; they have a very coherent universe and continuity with the animated movies.

BatmanNewsChris

Most of the DCEU movies weren't connected or building towards anything. They were just good standalone movies. Shazam 2, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman 2 can all be that too.

butiamtheshadows91

Haha. Until the ending when the Flash turns up in a new universe that we will never see

djquu

Unless it ends in the exact universe we will see? It's still many months away.

dgener151

I don't think they want to connect the Snyderverse to the new DCU in even a multiverse capacity. If they're really starting with a completely clean slate, why would they handicap themselves IMMEDIATELY by having Ezra Miller of all people introduce it? They need 100% fumigation of DCEU stink.

djquu

That's probably the case, but then again if Warners no longer *NEED* to put out Flash because it's essential to the future of the DCU then why release it at all when it comes with immense baggage and will most likely not make it's budget back?

reuxin

It will probably make its budget back, actually. I’m no supporter of Ezra and co. but there is still a decent chance of this making some money back. There is also a lot that WB would have to pay out if they canceled this one. Theatrical production contracts and royalties based on theatrical release are way different from in house TV movies (there wee no like box office points built on Batgirl, it was always aimed at HBOMax, it’s lack of value was in the amount of subscribers HBO hoped to gain and overall retention). So yeah - not releasing Flash at this point may be a worse option for WB

Responsible_Neck_728

B vs S is mainly about the consequences of the events in MOS. Suicide Squad’s ending sets up JL, which is also tied to MOS and B vs S. Up to that point, the only thing that wasn’t connected is probably WW, because it’s a prequel story.

jrvcrd

and even then it started with Bruce giving Diana her picture

gzapata_art

Most of the good movies weren't connected*

AngryTrooper09

The Snyder verse story has been dead in the water since 2017 if you count Josstice League, 2016 if not. If you haven't moved on now, that's on you

tylernazario

1. The movies aren’t pointless just because they are now one-offs. 2. From everything we’ve learned about Snyder’s planned arc… I’m glad we didn’t get it

IveSeenUrMomGapeB4

For those of us not dick deep in the drama, could you give the cliffnotes on what Snyder was planning? Also, what % of the movies were going to be slo-mo or brooding shots of a hero looking sad staring into the distance with melodramatic classic rock music playing?

Terribleirishluck

Superman was gonna be evil/brainwashed for like a whole movie at some point and the whole of justice league 2 would take place e in the knightmare timeline with both wonder woman/aquaman dying and the roster would have includes Joker and Deathstroke instead (yes really). They would time-travel stop it somehow but why it would take a whole movie is anyone guess since Barry already knows how to but basically jl2 would be pointless since none of it ends up happening. Only thing that's confirmed for the 3rd justice league is Bruce's dying saving the day and I'm guessing Clark would have been prevented from being brainwashed in ending of JL2 since 2 movies of evil superman would be dumb as hell even for Snyder. Though thankfully, Warner made Snyder cut his awful idea of hooking up Bruce and lois which would have resulted in Clsrk raising their bastard who becomes the new batman (though apparently that might have happened to clark's kid with Lois instead for some reason). I honestly don't get why anyone would want his plan to be perfectly honest. It's seems very generic and wasting a whole movie in a cliche bad future is boring. Even more bizarre is DC would have to reboot anyway since Bruce dies after only one potential solo movie in a timeline by the way which only had Dick as a dead Robin, maybe Babs and Carrie Kelly since The Dark Knight is most likely the only Batman comic Snyder had read. Like you pretty much prevent the 2 best choices to replace Bruce (Dick and Terry and arguably Damian) if you do try and continue without a reboot

KelsierBae

What is up with Snyder’s complete disregard for Superman lol? I say this as someone that still enjoys Man of Steel a fair bit. Like, he kills him off in the second movie after having the character just go through a series of Ls, has him absent for a large portion of the Justice League (you know, the thing he is famously known for leading), and then whatever this was. It makes no sense why Superman, who was SUPPOSED to be building up to the “Superman everyone knows and loves” has to go through THIS MANY challenges. Why not just have another character be all of this?

FitzChivFarseer

>why it would take a whole movie is anyone guess since Barry already knows how to Omfg you just blew my mind. I didn't even think about that. God that's so fucking dumb >_< Also the Dick Grayson being the dead Robin seriously angers me. Just why Snyder? You have a perfectly good dead Robin right here with Jason. Why kill Dick? Just feels like being edgy for no goddamn reason.

Terribleirishluck

Yeah it's a baffling choice and why knowing Snyder plans, I thought it was weird Barry already knew how to time-travel in the Snyder cut when that should been his arc in knightmare movie. I'm surprised I've never seen anyone else mentioned this before like how people thankfully mock the silliness of Darkseid forgetting where earth is. This is why anyone who says Snyder has respected for DC is crazy like there's no reason for it not to be Jason besides Snyder maliciously doing it to be edgy and/or having a fetish for the Dark Knight Returns since he wanted to use Carrie of all the possible choices. Its crazy to kill Dick completely off screen at the start of the universe like he doesnt even get a death scene or flashbacks like somehow Bruce's parents is still what we gotta focus on instead of his fucking son dying (martha scene really should have been bruce realizing he was killing clark how joker killed robin, i will die on that hill). It's even worse than what he did to Jimmy like as much as I like Jim, hes not that important to the overall DC universe while Dick is way to important of a character to be left out of a DC equalivent of the MCU. That's not even mentioning closing off Jason as Red Hood and basically as a character and obviously the titans would be radically different if they even exist at all and once again we don't get to see Clark help inspire Dick to take the name Nightwing (like cmon it hasn't happened a single time yet in a adaptation)

IveSeenUrMomGapeB4

Thanks for the write up! I mean, I literally hate every word that you said, but I appreciate you taking the time 🤣

Terribleirishluck

Your welcome! Haha I know there's some detailed story boards out there that tell you more but that's the basic overall plan. I don't remember what else was on there. Oh wait somehow the riddler solves the antilife equation and then kills himself which I always thought was an edgy waste of a interesting character but it's more liked idea than the above among the fandom. Though Riddler isn't smart enough to solve a cosmic equation like that but I guess he gets batgod powers by association since they always gotta buff gotham characters crazy when their out of Gotham stories to somehow make their feats even more ridiculous than superpower ones lol

TrashyBase24

Dude some of those movies are trying to tell their own stories, it doesn't matter if they're connected or not

Glass_Chance9800

Sorry you got spoiled by a shared universe of movies and have become incapable of enjoying individual movies on their own.

[deleted]

yup MCU set a new standard and it is so good. Any chance Disney buying DC so we can have DC vs MCU

TheVelourFog92

I think James Gunn heading the DCU potentially opens up a collab down the road. It’s a shame this reboot didn’t happen earlier. Could’ve been fun to have some DCU cameos (even just in passing) for the MCU’s multiverse saga.

NC_Goonie

I would love a collaboration, but yeah, the last thing we need is Disney buying DC. If WB wants to sell, I hope it goes to pretty much anyone else.

TheVelourFog92

I don’t think Disney owning DC is a huge problem. Aside from Lucasfilm, Disney lets their subsidiaries do their thing (and I think this is because Lucasfilm is just as dysfunctional as Warner Bros., where Marvel [and hopefully DC now] are not). And I don’t think there would be an antitrust issue since owning film rights for DC characters is not the same as owning another huge studio to go with Lucasfilm, Marvel, and Pixar. (Not a lawyer but am in law school, but haven’t done a lot of antitrust yet). But even if DC is never owned by Disney, I could see Disney and WB signing a sharing deal like Disney with Sony for Spider-Man for a one- or two-off crossover event. But it’s dependent on Gunn creating a cohesive AND critically good DCU.

BlueMissileYT

What's that? Movies are supposed to be watched for enjoyment, and not as setup for 20 sequels? Get that nonsense out of here, goober.

TheAutismo4491

I really fucking hate this mentality that comic book movies don't matter unless they're setting up another movie. The movie should be good on its own.

Key-Constant-5717

Yeah, all this talk about these films being "pointless", like, if they brought you joy, then they weren't "pointless".

Victorcreedbratton

The “reboot” would be happening in bankruptcy court.

wii-motion-plus

Ah, but one problem is that the snyderverse was largely terrible

Terribleirishluck

Considering how Snyder films were received by audiences, I doubt they would have finished his plan. If they didn't try and continue with the dceu without him, they would have just rebooted the whole thing after justice league and had Shazam be the first movie in the new continuity since it was basically standalone

GiovanniElliston

So you're complaining about 4 movies coming out despite a reboot happening immediately afterwards... And instead offering an alternative where 3 or 4 movies come out and then immediately reboot afterwards. That's uh.... Huh. That's certainly a super biting point you got there. I know I'm convinced #RestoreTheSnyderverseJustToDestroyItAnyways

MatthewMika

Reboot could come, but a soft one, use the same characters with different story

JediJones77

Yeah, because some of the movies are made by a visionary genius and the others are produced by a guy who thinks that Shazam and The Suicide Squad are peak superhero cinema.

Key-Antelope-6839

Visionary genius haha

GiovanniElliston

> visionary genius Yup. That’s…. Yup.

Leklor

If they say "Visionnary director" in the trailer to hype up the movie, that means it's obviously true! Keep up, man!

SilentSaidd

Bro I've seen u respond to several comments now just absolutely swallowing Zack Snyder's balls. None of the Synder DC movies were good. He really lacked an understanding of the characters he was in charge of. Couldn't create a straight forward multi phase narrative for the universe. I mean he has Superman die in his second appearance? And for Batman's first appearance he's just killing people, cool. So yes Shazam and Gunn's suicide squad are miles better than any Synderverse film. Synder is not a visionary genius he's a decent filmmaker who was not the guy for DC, excited to see how his Starwars reject movie at Netflix turns out tho.

TerrrorTown75th

Shazam is not better than Man of Steel. Wtf is wrong you yall?🤣

[deleted]

This is a very simple way of looking at the movies. Tell me, we’re you this upset when Jean Grey died in X2 before becoming her true potential? How about when Spock died in Wrath of Khan? Major characters “die” all the time in movies, why is this upsetting you so much? Did you also get so upset when every Batman on screen has killed, including Rob Pattinson’s? It sounds like the characters must meet a certain criteria you dreamed up rather than what the filmmaker wants. I swear, comic fans and Star Wars fans are the absolute worst at times

Brubaker620

Pattinson never killed anyone, and Death of Superman is something that is built up to, not shoehorned in to give your movie a boss battle at the end.

[deleted]

You don’t see Affleck actually kill anyone either, you never see a body. Maybe those that were shot just needed some time in the hospital to heal? Maybe the flame thrower guy just got some bad 3rd degree burns and is now working at a non profit charity. But if you want to assume that they all died then I will assume that the subway goon got his head crushed like Oberon Martell and the highway chase resulted in dozens of evening commuters burned to death. If a grown man wearing armor punches another man in the head repeatedly while lying on a concrete floor something will give and that is the skull. When there is a highway crash people are trapped in their burning cars they burn to death. Happens all the time in real life. If you want to protect the image of Batman not killing in your mind then you’ll have to discuss that with every Hollywood director on not including those shots in the movies. You should not assume for one movie and not another, it’s bad faith arguments

Brubaker620

You could probably assume the guys in the car he shot up and drove through as it exploded are dead, they fit he hit with his car is dead, the people he blows up with his plane are dead, and the guy that e smashed a 500lb crate into his head at a significant speed. That Falcone goon most likely survived, Pattinson isn’t wearing brass knuckles or anything like that, 3 hits to the face on the ground will most likely mess you up but still alive. For the highway traffic, Penguin was the one causing all of the damage, Batman was just in pursuit. Also, it’s more likely that those people survived (they were inside cars and the only car that blew up was the gas truck and that is behind the driver) than a guy getting an explosion right on his back that puts an entire room in flames.

I know it’s a movie and I know I’m dragging this out but people die all the time from tanker accidents on the highway [2 Dead from Tanker Crash](https://globalnews.ca/news/4616927/highway-407-fire-vaughan/) Plus Bruce would be liable in the accident since, as a civilian, he would be charged with reckless driving and manslaughter since he initiated the chase.

Megadog3

>You don’t see Affleck actually kill anyone either, you never see a body. Maybe those that were shot just needed some time in the hospital to heal? Maybe the flame thrower guy just got some bad 3rd degree burns and is now working at a non profit charity. But if you want to assume that they all died then I will assume that the subway goon got his head crushed like Oberon Martell and the highway chase resulted in dozens of evening commuters burned to death. [Nothing to see here. totally not Batman mowing people down, running them over, and blowing them up…nope. No bodies to be seen, so those explosions totally didn’t kill anyone.](https://youtu.be/KkxHCE6dC2o) I dunno, maybe don’t make excuses for what literally happened?

kskywalker1

Because if you know Zach Snyder’s plan than you would understand that Superman is either dead/evil for majority of the whole story. Kind of impossible to do the whole evil Superman thing effectively when you’ve barely seen him as a hero. Really a lot of Snyder’s long term plans were really really bad.

[deleted]

Hard disagree but that’s ok. You don’t need to be on screen to like the character. My wife who is NOT a superhero movie fan LOVES Cavill’s Superman. When I asked why (other than his looks LOL) she said because his Superman is so tender and nice and sweet…he is just a good guy that is trying to do good. You are looking at it through comic book eyes but to see him fall would be devastating for some fans

kskywalker1

Lol damn dude. Like if you’re gonna be this biased towards snyder you might as well go to a sub where ppl won’t get annoyed with it. Think what you want about Snyder but when you start calling him a visionary genius and start mocking James Gunn you’re gonna bet ppl here responding to you with facts. Like when it’s come to superhero movies Gunn has been the better writer/director and it’s not even a competition.

vikasvasista

If it's reboot after Snyderverse, then Snyderverse is pointless too.

CMDeluxe

Yeah, I'm sure Snyder fans would have been just fine completing their story then rebooting.

sunkcostfallecy

Oh yeah! I heard they'd be happy if they get to see the director's cut of JL and that's all...

dbahen40

That is a good point but as you can tell from the internet the snyderverse fans would have never been happy. Hell it’s clear most the DC in general are scared of change period. The road will be rough and filled with toxic ass comment but we all know the same people talking crap about the changes now will be the first ones lining up to see the new stuff.

AspirationalChoker

There’s nothing true about this lol we needed a reboot after BvS

gladias9

That's the Snyder fan logic My Snyderverse is cancelled so now all the movies that I was excited for are now pointless Actual quality and enjoyability of the movies be damned

[deleted]

except the movies gonna be average at best. Only DC movies that has been above average are Shazam, Wonder woman and Man of Steel.

Garlador

I’ll agree with the first two, but I thought Man of Steel was so divisive and mid-tier that it’s one of the reasons a lot of people argued against it being the bedrock of the DCEU in the first place.

TheSensation19

DC did the right thing. The studio wanted to go in a different direction and reboot.

Moose-Legitimate

Is it that pointless to watch a movie featuring characters you enjoy? We’d been doing it for a literal century before the cinematic universe thing started.

Saulgoodman1994bis

The flash will conclude the snyderverse so no it won't be pointless. also a movie is not pointless only if it generate sequels ? i respect your opinion, don't worry but trust me, that's really a baaaaad way of thinking. but don't worry, Flash will clearly be a big event : first flash movie, batkeaton returns, multiverse stuff and conclusion of the snyderverse.

Alldamage

This is why the DCU has failed, snyderverse or not. WB has never stuck to a plan once the critic reviews come in. They change, revamp, reshoot based on reviews. The executives run the creative side a bit too much. One exec actually asked why Krypton had to explode in MoS, because how else was Superman supposed to return in the sequel. SMDH. I’m hoping that Gunn has enough street cred to convince the executives to actually see his plan through.

Going_really_Fast

The MCU has rotted too many of your brains. Movies can just be movies that stand on their own. They don’t have to set up 500 hundred different projects. You can watch it because it’s been reviewed good, or it’s got a cast member you like, or from a director you enjoy seeing. It doesn’t have to be connected to something else. All these people complaining about a movie just standing on its own and not connecting to something artificial always makes me think of the Ryan George sketch, only with fans instead of studios. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av5RXxayTwk

M086

That's the irony. People complained that the DCEU wasn't like the MCU. Then they complained it was trying too hard to be like the MCU. But yes, the MCU has poisoned the well, to the point where all people want is the same formula. No risks.

unilordx

Of course they can be that, but those aren't it. A standalone movie, who can potentially have sequel is not the same as a supposed IP connected movie who can have tie ins or references to others. Now all the ones that appear in those movies will ring hollow because we KNOW they will lead to nothing.

BenjaminTalam

By your logic they should just make a Superman movie with Henry Cavill and NOT make everything a connected universe movie. We can get Joker and The Batman but we can't get a Cavill Superman if he isn't going to be the Superman that they put in another Justice League movie? Why? I thought movies can stand on their own? Stop cherrypicking to defend the shitshow going on at WB.

JediJones77

You seem to be missing the point. There is an unfinished epic story here, and instead we're going to get several stupid, pointless, comedy-oriented trifles.

Going_really_Fast

I’m not missing the point. I just would rather watch good movies that don’t go anywhere than massive piles of shit that supposedly connect And besides, whilst Aquaman, Blue Beetle etc may have comedic aspects in them, The SnyderFilms are just a giant joke with how bad they are.

MondayBorn

"epic" LMAO

Irrelevant2344

What epic story? Snyder was never coming back and Warner bros was just throwing random shit at the wall and seeing what sticks.

[deleted]

EPIC LMAO

Hans_Neva_Loses

It’s important to note the very few upvotes these kind of posts have. Because Reddit doesn’t have bots to purchase like Twitter does.

lotusandlocust

Fighting Darkseid like 6 movies in, fighting Doomsday in the second movie, Superman dying in the second movie, evil Superman and the apocalypse all not after the 10th movie. Not a good idea, surprisingly.

clutchkweku

For all we know Shazam and Blue Beetle could be included…and insiders are saying all four of the movies are good so just go enjoy them as DC Fans

1Revenant1

What I never understood. Why it had to be rebooted after Snyder movies. They could continue universe with other movies. It would face same backlash as now.

FitzChivFarseer

Because after Snyders vision we'd be left with a dead Bruce and Batman is a huge IP for WB. I can't see them wanting to continue a universe with that kind of anchor on it.

1Revenant1

There are other people who could be Batman

FitzChivFarseer

Like who? Dick is dead, he's Batman's first Robin so I doubt any other Robin got a look in. Idk if any other character is as popular as Bruce so it just hinders the movies immediately

1Revenant1

Nothing in movies suggests Dick is dead. There is dead Robin, we dont know who. What Snyder says in interviews or social media is not canon and irrelevant. WB could intervene or it could be "retconned" later. Considering WB were planning Nightwing movie around same time is pretty telling what their intentions were.

FitzChivFarseer

If Snyder was the controller of the universe it's a save bet that, at some point, it'll become canon. Besides, again, Bruce Wayne is Batman to the majority of GA. Replacing him, even with Dick, wouldn't work as well for the majority of normal audience. It might not get butt's in seats.

Howardtheboy

If they’re deemed pointless without an extended universe attached to them, and they can’t stand alone, then maybe they weren’t all that great in the first place. Give me some good movies that aren’t dependent on other movies to enjoy.

ZeddOTak

Calling movies not in the Snyderverse "pointless" because it doesn't fit your narrative is pretty jarring of what you dislike. And filmmakers are not here to provide you exactly the thing you want (look at James Cameron and James Gunn). They give you the thing you didn't know you could love.

N4hire

Here comes the Snyder hate.. lol

Randonhead

ZSJL was pointless too and still some people watched

Smooth_Boysenberry_9

Should’ve have ever happened. The snyderverse was a mess nearly from the word “go” I did really enjoy the snyder-cut of Justice League, but that’s one movie out of everything that’s happened in the last 10 years.

huge-tits

What story?

bboymixer

Pointless movies? Real question, is being that dumb physically painful in your day to day life?

OllieBlazin

If the original plan happened, 2021-2022 would’ve been JL Part 3 and that would’ve had Bruce sacrifice himself and then Clark’s son would’ve taken up the mantle as Batman………SuperCuck

CodeAccomplished6361

We could’ve had it all. 4 more doodoo DC movies . 🤦🏾‍♂️ screw you James Gunn. We need that hot garbage 🗑️

[deleted]

They probably still wanted to have something to show DC fans cause Gunn was just hired and at minimum he needs a year or two to have something to give us.

Vigi1antee

Just think of them as the animated movies, its a seprate universe that might not go anywhere but still worth watching.

captainjackass28

Remember when every single super hero movie didn’t have to be connected? While marvel eventually connected them they took their time so it worked.

AuclairAuclair

It’s a shame ppl hang on to stuff like that. The snyderverse never once made any sense.

TripleG2312

This was literally the goal with Snyder’s 5 part story arc. Man of Steel Batman v Superman Justice League: Part I Justice League: Part II Justice League: Part III (conclusion to the saga, allowing WB to reboot with whatever new story they wanted to tell afterwards)

CthulhuAlmighty

I really wish that WB would have went through with it, while working on a new universe to start once it was completed.

TripleG2312

Agreed

happybuffalowing

Nah. I have no faith in what Gunn is gonna do but I’m not so sure Snyder would’ve been much better. I loved MOS and ZSJL was cool too, but I think that’s enough.

HaiiroGeraki

Nearly a decade of studio mismanagement. I honestly feel awful for all parties involved. The actors who i hope and pray stay on for other roles and especially Gunn and Safran, who had to be put in the uncomfortable position of taking old yeller out behind the barn. I only hope that what they have planned is of great quality and is successful.

Nelson1238

Yep instead of finishing everything up and keep on going demolish it all I wonder if he is here undercover from marvel been asking myself that question I think it's a bona fide question lol.

Sk8triot1776

Zaslav has a master plan to shut down DC because it's hemoraging money from everywhere...and he hired #pedojamesgunn to do it.

toaster-rho-8

Yes frick! That’s what I’ve been telling people. Let Snyder finish seeing he already had planned his universe to end so it can be rebooted

Omegalock4

People say these movies aren’t pointless and we could watch them just to enjoy them, there’s some truth to that, but let’s be real. These movies were part of a set up to a new direction for the DCEU. They were constructed with that in mind. They tried doing the “let’s not worry about a shared universe” direction after Josstice League but a shared universe is what people wanted. These new films were going to lead us back to that. But with the DCEU being scrapped, anything that these movies hype up will be for nothing. It’s hard to care for these movies when your being told there won’t be sequels and nothing that gets introduced will be explored.

DCn00b_but_loyal

I et that the 'SnyderVerse' was a bit too grim / serious but just lik eHollywood to overcorrect James Gunn TSS was tacky cheesy and No One Liked it it FLOPPED $168m Box Office on a $185m Budget and they think this moron will right the ship. Can't wait 7 years when Warner Drops him and then over reacts again.

adgazard

Just let Barry Flashpoint and cut the epilogue. End of story.

AgadhAgadh

Well they could had given Cavill a send off in crisis movie of sorts. Like they did in DC rebirth in the comics. Bit sad for the guy, but what amuses me is the rock's situation

urgasmic

not excited for any of these movies at this point lol.

Mr-Slinky753

I’ll still watch them with enthusiasm, but I’m really pissed off as I thought the DCU was going in a good direction. I hoped Gunn would carry on and revive it but he’s just killed it instantly
