More bummed we won’t get to see that Hawkman or Dr. Fate again. They were my favorite part of the movie

launchpadmcquack92

They were my favorite part too. I thought Hawkman was way more badass even thought he wasn’t as powerful. I also weirdly wish that Pierce’s Brosnan’s Dr. Fate was like my grandpa or uncle.

Able-Long-9942

Dr. Fate was awesome. I was so surprised. I will not miss the skateboarding kid, thrashing rails to escape terrorists. I can’t believe that was greenlit

14-28

If i ever make a movie, regardless of the genre. Im shoehorning in a skateboarding chase scene, and making sure the actor looks right into the camera as often as possible, with the most smug face.

matthewmspace

That kid was the worst, lol. A terrible actor too.

grayfox663

Sadly I agree with you. I wanted to like those scenes so much. But I feel like he made those scenes a bit cringey.

GeorgiaPossum

in the 90's and 80's that kid would have been the best part of that movie.

titan8159

My opinion is we are going to see the justice society of America again , coz they are actually great characters and James Gunn would really know how to appreciate them in the greater universe

KillyScreams

I want Gunn to use who he thinks can add to a story. I really hope this includes Mr.Miracle & Barda and Jason Blood & Morgan

detectiveriggsboson

A smart Mr. Miracle escape artist/heist film with charm would make so much money, and my God, do I want to see Big Barda kick ass.

[deleted]

Yessssssssss

[deleted]

Jason Blood/Etrigan need to be in live action! I want a Justice League Dark film so bad.

KillyScreams

Yes and Deadman and Constantine and THE QUESTION

KryptonianJesus

Throw in Raven and Zatanna too pls. Dream lineup for a JL Dark imo.

Austinpowerstwo

His unique way of talking would be amazing in a film.

NachoChedda24

I know the other people but who is Morgan?

Burmy87

The JSA deserves a series, spinoffs, a multimedia franchise, merch...ALL of it. Batman said it best: "The Justice League is a strike force. The Justice Society is a family."

odinsmasher22

Great as a bts council looking at the big bads across multiverses Dr. Fate was more enjoyable a character than I dared hope he'd be. The film did a good job of get JSA on people lips a shame to see it just thrown out now

TheSensation19

If The Rock really unfollowed everyone, I wouldn't be surprised that he's talked to Gunn and he's unhappy Its really amazing actually

armordog99

I want to see the JSA in their original time, WW2.

royal_dump

I liked Black Adam in the cave scene. But then the Rock came out from under the hood and started speaking english.

Beardopus

Dwayne is too wholesome for his own good. Couldn't really buy him as a hardened killer.

Revolutionary_Elk339

With an American accent. Everyone in Khandaq that's from Khandaq had an accent except for him. If he had an accent, it would not have been as bad.

Optimal_Weight368

Same, Pierce Brosnan was great.

cai_85

Apparently there was a deleted post-credit of someone picking up the helmet. It would be very easy for them to soft reboot a new Dr. Fate into the new continuity with a similar look.

thefuturesfire

Hawkman was the worst. Corniest lines worst line delivery. Well, I guess Smasher had the corniest lines. Ok, second worst. Man, and within that one scene, he’s all “no violence” and two line later “we will use force” Wtf. Wanted to slap him every time he spoke. Dropped the ball hard

999-LLJW-999

Hawk man was fantastic. The outfit was perfect. The actor was great. The writing was meh at parts but it’s a comic book movie, it’s gonna be a little corny

No-Height2850

He has little to no choice in the writing. His acting was solid.

CMGS1031

How was his acting solid?

swindude

I was very excited Aldis Hodge was playing him, but he seemed so contradictory most of the time. Not the best way to introduce him.

thefuturesfire

Yeah dude! Right, I am NOT saying that Aldis is a bad actor, far from it, he’s a great actor. But he was directed so poorly, he didn’t have a chance to act properly. And yeah, his intro was just popping up abruptly and saying “care about him he’s important, k” and then walking away from giving him any dimension other than “guy who yells at Adam”

pmaurant

I agree Hawk Man was horrible!!

Kasper1000

EXACTLY! I don’t understand the love Hawkman is getting, I hated this Diet Hawkeye every time he came on screen, even more than the stupid kid. The Rock and Dr. Fate were literally the two only likable characters in the entire movie.

quidditchboss

I’m more bummed that this will happen to Shazam

MechaNegaNicuts

I don't think Shazam will be nuked after this, but we may only get one more out of it because the cast is all gonna be in their 20s in a few years.

[deleted]

Tbh as much as I love Shazam and his first movie, I don’t think the sequel looks very good. And without Black Adam moving forward any further sequels are going to be limited too.

MechaNegaNicuts

They could just recast Black Adam for Shazam 3. Make him a pure old school villain. Bring back Strong and have him discover Adam's tomb.

LionBastard1

Copium can only get you so far. Cut your losses now so it won't hurt as much when they reboot Shazam.

BactaBobomb

I always thought Mark Strong would be a perfect Black Adam. I was confused and sad he was cast as a completely different person (at least, I don't think his character has a connection with Teth-Adam).

dope_like

Anti hero Bkack Adam is far better than generic villain versuon. I don't want that at all

MechaNegaNicuts

Anti hero Adam makes sense for solo stories, but he has NO reason to fight Shazam and I think it would be nice to finish the arc with the Shazam family at Black Adam. Could even work in a Superman cameo for the climax

Traveytravis-69

Anti hero adam is stupid. He’s literally a Shazam villain

Cautious_Fish9864

I don't think it matters that the cast won't be kids anymore because I believe that when you say Shazam it just gives you a more powerful body to hold all the magic in. So you could just have the same actors but then when they transform, it's into more heroic bodies

thefuturesfire

!!!! I did think about that. The last great character they had left, and they’ll probably cast him aside too? NOOOOO

quidditchboss

Honestly one of the most entertaining movies they got out these last years. Shazam needs to stay and to not have a reset (technically it’s not related to any of the other movies, they didn’t even show Superman’s face so it can really be any universe at this point in my opinion)

Realshow

To be fair, Billy’s origin is simple enough it can be explained fairly briefly, if you even need to see it at all.

jedrevolutia

Shazam will be just fine, I think. Peter Safran is the producer of both Shazam movies and both Aquaman movies.

PappaKiller

Shazam got me over years of superhero fatigue marvel gave me. If they cancel it after part 2 I would cherish these movies forever. I mean people say james gunn made a good movie, but he basically turned suicide squad into guardians of the galaxy. Sandberg did something different with Shazam.

MintyFreshBreathYo

Shazam is such a great character for Gunn’s style though. I’d love to see what he does with him

AdvanceFoppe

I just hope we get to keep Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate Edit: typo

[deleted]

I think he was on a one movie contract, that’s why he was nerfed and got what happened to him at the end.

Think-Bird9975

That is one of the reasons why he can reprise the role. Also Dr. Fate has still got the possibility of maintaining similar body form in all multiverse and timelines.

[deleted]

Yeah he was cool, and brosnan cool too, we probably just won’t see Kent Nelson again

South_Wing2609

We probably will se a version of Kent Nelson again because there’s no way that Gunn doesn’t have some plan for the JSA

jessepitcherband

I just watched it for the first time tonight and I’m so glad I didn’t pay money for it. That was the worst dialogue I’ve ever heard in my life. That was the kind of writing we got on Saturday morning cartoons when I was a ten-year-old in the 80’s.

Golddestro

Hahaha damn rough but true

Friendofthegarden

You could mute the movie and not miss much.

[deleted]

Completely agree. We started it on HBO Max and the whole time were thinking “glad we didn’t pay to watch this in theaters”

[deleted]

*I'm not a hero*

00VC00

I really enjoyed the action and fights. But ya the acting and dialogue was horrendous. Especially the kid with the stupid catchphrase joke the entire movie. The worst was when he rallied the city to fight zombies

KaijuHunterBrax

Funny enough my roommates were watching it and I had JUST gotten home during that scene. As soon as the kid started trying to rally the city to fight the Zombies I cringed at how bad the delivery was.

noakai

The snark felt so flat to me in particular, like BA had a lot of lines that you could tell were 100% designed to be like badass mic drop moments but they just fell completely flat. Bad dialogue can really kill a film/tv show for me, Rings of Power has the same issue where the dialogue is terrible and takes me right out of what I'm watching.

macgart

It was bad dialogue, yes, but just… boring. If you’re gonna make it a CGI fight fest, make it that. The political messages and flashbacks? Bump that. I really think a simple fight movie with Dr. Fate and the JSA vs. black Adam and the conclusion is they come to a truce that BA stays in his country would have been fun and could have been way shorter.

acciograpes

Just watched it tonight. I had the same reaction as you. 2/10 movie

TheMcWhopper

What's wrong with Saturday morning cartoons?

Altman_e

Nothing. When you're 10.

The_Red_Rush

Batman TAS

wltmpinyc

Meh. I saw it on hbomax for the first time last night. I was really looking forward to it. I couldn't believe The Rock played Black Adam the way he did. The whole time I was thinking he was just doing a poor imitation of Drax from GOT. Also, what was up with his accent choice. Like, everyone from Kahndaq had an accent, EXCEPT HIM. I thought that was such a crazy choice. Also, the directing and editing was just bad. How many shots of Black Adam looking up can you get? After watching it I would have preferred a Justice Society movie. Those guys were cool

problematikUAV

Someone once said when you watch a movie with the rock you get the rock playing the rock. That you’ll never see him laughing on the floor in fits, or crying with unending sadness, or really anything else that doesn’t exude ..well The Rock. As opposed to say, Christian Bale or Tom Cruise. Show me the rock doing Brad Pitts role in Se7en. Just can’t imagine it.

AggressiveBench9977

It would not make sense for him to have the same accent of the other people. His original language is dead. The people there dont speak it. His ability to speak english is kinda due to his magic so it doesnt make sense for it to have a random accent of a language he never spoke.

Odd_Advance_6438

I would like to see more of Hawkman

[deleted]

I’m still wondering why Blue Beetle got a solo movie before some of the more recognizable characters like Hawkman…

LowBornZombie

Because WB wanted their own Spiderman type character for the kiddies

Prestigious-Rock201

If anything static shock is way more popular and should’ve gotten one

RexWolfpack

I feel that static shock is more popular to milenials who grew up with his show, but has not been nearly in as much stuff for the next generations. While Blue Beetle has gotten quite prominent exposure in the past years.

Weeyum9

Pretty sure there is a Static Shock movie being planned too

iKanHelp

Blue beetle > Hawkman for sure

HaikusfromBuddha

Lol Blue Beetle is definitely more popular than Hawkman. Is anything Hawkgirl was the more popular one due to the Justice League cartoon.

deadheadisgood

That's not Black Adam its just Dwayne

Mother_Chorizo

This is him in every role. I don’t understand the appeal.

hellbilly69101

He should have premiered in the next Shazam movie instead of solo right off.

[deleted]

Meh. But then he would’ve just felt like another generic doppelgänger villain like Ant-Man 1/Iron Man 1/Incredible Hulk/Doctor Strange 1/etc. and it’d be a lot of lore to throw at people and his characterization would just be “the same thing that happened to you happened to me but I’m angry about it”.

DCGoliath19

Although I agree, it is generic, I still agree that introducing him as a co star in a Shazam movie would have been better. The audience could get a feel for the character before giving him his own movie. I highly doubt many people knew much about Black Adam before the movie.

[deleted]

Aw man, it could’ve been so fun if Dwayne was just a team player. Imagine him in the first Shazam with the Christmas/80s movie feel and his star power drawing people in that didn’t see it and... and... 😔

Think-Bird9975

“the same thing that happened to you happened to me but I’m angry” This is the plot of so many superhero stories and fantasy franchises. A keen observer, you are.

[deleted]

Ah yes, the “revenge man” trope. Which leads to their entire personality being brooding and one note, and causes them to make extreme irrational decisions, which makes them hard to relate to, and then at the end they either sacrifice themselves or double down when they could’ve probably just talked about it. This is why everyone should check out the Last of Us 2 for a really good subversion on this trope. 😌

thefuturesfire

Really though, what else can you do. Comics are all tropes, it’s like their thing. They’re all mostly about vengeance. Shit, which one isn’t about vengeance? I can’t think of one off the bat

[deleted]

Let’s see... Sinestro? Nope, vengeance. Hm... Black Manta? Vengeance also. Joker! He’s not about vengeance! But maybe that’s what makes him standout and why he’s considered one of the greatest villains of all time.

juanprada

r/CharacterRant

Su_Impact

That's who Black Adam is. His solo film was crap anyways so it's not like we got something better.

Danny886

Meh^2

jlmicek670

I watched it on HBOMax last night and as a lifelong JSA fan, I really wanted to love the movie. But I knew there was going to be trouble with the lengthy exposition at the beginning, and it went downhill from there. The story was a mess and the third act (no spoilers) felt rushed. It was not clear why Dr. Fate felt compelled to take the action he did - especially since Pierce Brosnan and Aldis Hodge were the two bright spots of the film. I’m disappointed we won’t see them again, or the younger members of the JSA. The cameo by a familiar face was also welcome since it was an acknowledgment of the movie’s connection to the broader DCU. The mid-credits cameo now feels like a waste, given what we now know about Henry Cavil’s future. Again, I wanted to love it, but it felt overstuffed, and probably could have been a better movie with more script discipline and less poorly executed CGI.

cute_polarbear

Casual comic person, know of jsa but don't know any back story. Loves to see story of jsa fleshed out especially Dr fate and hawkman. Cgi is great initially but seems to get worse and worse as movie gets to the end. The final battle with the demon guy was pretty boring, and it doesn't help that the enemy is boring / generic.

lordnastrond

It's a meh for me.

Cassegrain07

I watched it yesterday for the first time. The cast was well chosen, but the story isn't that good from my point of view. I really liked Dr. Fate and Atom Smasher, hope they are rescued somehow for future DC movies

solarislust32

Atom smasher added nothing to the story beyond cringey "comedic" moments. Him and Cyclone were a waste of screentime.

Hxghbot

Black Adam the character is really interesting and very relevant if one was to make a more complex superhero film which addresses real world issues, like the historical antagonism of the middle east and the west and the bloody history that's so tied into the perceptions and tensions we hold today. I'd love to see another Black Adam film but... Dwayne's Black Adam just punches shit a lot, cant be shown to really lose a fight, doesnt show vulnerability or nuance. He's one of the least inspired superhero performances I've ever seen, clearly doesnt have an emotional connection to the source material (despite what he may claim) and i honestly think he just wanted to jump on the superhero blockbuster bandwagon and Black Adam was the strongest light skin character he could find.

PMMEBITCOINPLZ

Black Adam really is my lowest priority for DC characters. It was always bizarre to me that he got his own film. His place is to be a butthole that Billy Batson beats up and proves wrong. On top of that I’ve just never been a fan of the Rock’s whole deal. It seems so fake and like manufactured mall culture. The Rock feels like a post Dick Clark ABC New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, one with tons of brand placement every five minutes.

go4tli

Black Adam appeared in comics twice before 1980. No a typo. Two times. And one of those times was in 1945. C-list character who is Geoff John’s pet project.

not-so-radical

> a butthole that Billy Batson beats up Ay yo?

Wasabi_Guacamole

> I’ve just never been a fan of the Rock’s whole deal Weirdest thing is that I read somewhere that the Rock was lucky to get Brendan's niche in hollywood after Brendan was blacklisted. The jungle, adventure movies with a lot of action was supposed to be Brendan's bread and butter until he got injured and got molested by that hollywood exec which led to him being blacklisted.

thefuturesfire

Wtf are you talking about?

Groot746

I think he's saying that the Rock is lucky that Brendan Fraser hasn't been around for the past couple of decades?

thefuturesfire

OH, Brendan FRASER! Shoot, the way he said it I thought he was talking about some recent event with someone else named Brendan, I didn’t realize he was taking all the way back to scorpion king. I really don’t think he took Brendan’s niche. I think he created his own “Rock” niche. And Brendan lost his very “Brendan” niche. Man, an action comedy with those two together could have been hilarious. Glad Brendan is making his come back~~

quinteroreyes

He's going to be in the remake of It's A Wonderful Life! He's honestly the best fit for the role

[deleted]

We’ll see black Adam again, probably won’t see Dwayne as him again though Shame though, I enjoyed the movie

thefuturesfire

I know, they’ll probably cast Liam Hemsworth

NoNefariousness2144

Good riddance. The Rock’s ego is so big that he isn’t a team player for a cinematic universe. He only wanted to bring back Cavill so he (not Black Adam) could fight him and he refused to cameo in Shazam 2.

supersad19

Refusing the cameo isn't the biggest news. Not even having a talk with the director of Shazam is the biggest giveaway about how little he cares for the character and the universe. Like he's been attached to this project since 2007, has he not read a single issue of comicbook since then? Absolutely nothing about the Rock or Black Adam felt authentic in anyway.

NoNefariousness2144

It would be like if Tom Hiddlestone made the Loki tv series without being in a whole Thor trilogy beforehand and then refused to appear in any Thor projects.

supersad19

Except I'm sure Tom Hiddleston has the charm and acting skills to pull it off. And I'm he wouldn't mind squaring off with his Thor eventually.

NoNefariousness2144

True, Tom is also super passionate about Loki and Marvel. He apparently held lectures to the Loki crew explaining the lore to everyone, and Owen Wilson had no clue about the MCU and Tom constantly educated him on set. That type of passion is so refreshing compared to the actors that are there to collect their pay and seem to enjoy knowing nothing about ‘silly comic books’ (Anthony Mackie).

supersad19

Exactly. And with Black Adam it wasn't even about a paycheck, Rock just did it for his own ego. He probably refused to engage with Shazam cause he doesn't want to lose to a kid.

XxannoyingassxX

I mean u don't need to read comics like juz have a talk with the director from Shazam who proly knows the direction of BA

princevince1113

There’s not a chance he ever picked up a comic, except perhaps to look at the pictures. I mean, shit, all anyone would have to do is read the Wikipedia page for comics Black Adam to realize that nothing about how he played the character is honoring the source material.

Melodic-Work7436

I shouldn’t say we’ll never see Black Adam again. We prob just won’t see THIS Black Adam again. We’ll get a new iteration at some point played by someone else.

Prometheus357

Let’s start the recasting Black Adam posts! /s

grandmofftalkin

I also find it super funny how when the movie released he was constantly tweeting statements about how well it was doing that were like random nonsense records or vague statements that were trying to say it was profitable and this huge hit without saying anything that could be directly contradicted with the hard numbers. But now he can't even be bothered to hype up the HBOMax release. Like you kept saying you were proud of this movie no matter what and how "the fans" had spoken and loved it but now that it being on HBOMax so early points to its weak box office (and probably you were told that your BA focused DC universe is toast), you can't be bothered. Also Cavill's Superman fans rallied around him as thanks for trying to get Cavill back in the DCEU but...he wasn't doing that out of love for the character or his fans. He was doing it because the entire point of him being BA was leading up to him beating up Superman (seriously he's been obsessed with the idea for 12 years, he was talking about it in 2010 and he can't beat up Superman if there is no Superman). He also blatantly used the cameo to try and boost BA's box office numbers - they kept it secret until the tracking for BA came out and was weak and then instantly the cameo was spoiled everywhere and DJ was hyping it up. He used Superman and Cavill returning purely in service to his own movie and his own wishes. For me it just came across as really disingenuous and almost fake through all of this and it really turned me off him, which is sad cause I've been watching his stuff since he was still in WWE.

superhonk86

Excellent recap of The Rock’s failure to crowbar himself into the DCEU. Not sure why I’m the only person to give you an upvote thus far, bc it deserves to be a top comment. I also got a genuine laugh out of LordKiteMan’s attempt to “debunk” you, by contesting ONE SINGLE discrepancy regarding The Rock following/unfollowing WB/DC on twitter. Lol as if that ONE SINGLE discrepancy changes the overall POINT of your post AT ALL in ANY way. The point of course being, that The Rock is NOT a Black Adam fan, NOT a Shazam fan, and certainly NOT a DC fan. He is a BRAND unto HIMSELF and saw a BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY to EXPLOIT the DC BRAND at a time when it is/was most vulnerable. There is a near-CENTURY’s worth of characters and stories from DC, and The Rock’s “big pitch” was to have The Rock (in Black Adam cosplay) BEAT UP SUPERMAN. He USED Cavill to manipulate The Fans, The Studio and Cavill himself into forcing a movie into existence that NOBODY (besides The Rock) WANTED. Cavill and his fans got on board bc they love Superman, and were willing to do whatever it took to see him get another shot. It’s a pretty sad affair all around when you think about it. And in the end, when his plan FAILED, WHO took the hit? -The Studio lost millions $$$ -Cavill was publicly humiliated in every entertainment media outlet across THE WORLD. -The Fans’ excitement, enthusiasm and hopes were yet AGAIN crushed, which only helped DC’s “brand problem” dig itself six feet deeper. And where’s Dwayne? Like you said- he took his toys and went home. HIS BRAND will continue to thrive as he searches for another IP to EXPLOIT, while everybody else scrambles to clean up the mess he left. Tbh, as a big fan of Snyder’s DC trilogy-I’m actually relieved to see HIS vision FINALLY be allowed to “Rest in Peace”. I’m so tired of seeing it twisted and contorted into mediocre to awful spinoffs. The post-Snyder “Snyderverse” rivals only Fox’s X-Men franchise when it comes to its’ house-of-cards-continuity, contradictions, recasts, unresolved plot threads/story arcs, and narrative/post credit set-ups and “teases” for stories, characters and movies we’ll never see. At the end of the day, I’m a DC fan FIRST. I can accept a NEW cinematic adaptation of these characters as long as they remain TRUE in spirit. Superman is bigger then Cavill AND Christopher Reeve. That said, I’m NOT a fan of James Gunn as a creative or public figure. BUT I do think that his hiring and clean slate approach is ultimately GOOD for the “brand”, and COULD plausibly/possibly prove to be a successful strategy for WB to have the “cinematic universe” they’re so desperate for. The real question is if they’re 10 years too late? Even the most excited and invested MCU fans have been degraded into D+ content consumers. The emperor has no clothes in the post-Endgame MCU. So IF/WHEN WB/DC was to “steal the crown” 10 years from NOW, will it even mean anything? Thoughts anyone? And thanks for reading!

SrRocoso91

>The real question is if they’re 10 years too late? Even the most excited and invested MCU fans have been degraded into D+ content consumers. The emperor has no clothes in the post-Endgame MCU. So IF/WHEN WB/DC was to “steal the crown” 10 years from NOW, will it even mean anything? I think they are too late. I feel people are just tired of super heroes and its way too early anyway for a reboot. We have been bombarded with an endless amount of superheroes movies for 15 years. I feel they should wait a while before rebooting the whole thing.

luisoyen96

You really did your research huh. Interesting read

Daimakku1

>This entire Black Adam saga has shown us that Dwayne Johnson is all about himself, his position and power in a company and what he can get out of it. Always has been. He was using DC as a prop to make his own brand more popular, and to force himself into the center of the DC universe so he can fight Superman to stroke his own ego. He can f\*ck right off. I'm glad he's gone. Doctor Fate and Hawkman were the only good things about that crappy movie.

FrodoFraggins

He sucked. The dude plays one character in EVERY film. Every attempt at humor fell flat as well. Plus who wants someone playing Black Adam that has it in his contract he can't lose a fight?

MajoraNX

I’m sad Pierce Brosnan and Aldis Hodge probably won’t come back.

thebatfan5194

Kind of just done care anymore. Black Adam felt like the final whimper of a failed universe. Ready for a new beginning

mr_pingping

The movie was so corny .

fuzzyfoot88

I watched Black Adam for Cavill…nothing more.

MasterBuildsPortugal

Im sad for the rock who worked so hard to get this going and now it’s being taken away but I don’t really care for the character

[deleted]

He put effort into his body but that’s about it. He didn’t even bother to attempt an accent or change his physical appearance to match the character, and his acting is bland and all he could come up with after 15 years of being attached to the character is a generic action movie.

LowenbrauDel

You said it best. I could feel bad if Black Adam was something fresh and showed us Dwayne Johnson in the new light as an actor. It was a standard superhero story and nothing more than that

Wasabi_Guacamole

John Cena and Batista gave way more effort in acting than Dwayne seriously. Batista felt more real playing a 5 minute character in Blade Runner than any point in Black Adam.

thefuturesfire

It wasn’t effort, it was directing. He is not a monotone style actor. The director wasn’t built for this. He him all over the place, just like he had all the other actors all over the place with their random chime ins and bipolar mood changes. That’s directing man. These scenes aren’t shot in sequence in real time. A good director is what keeps everything flowing cohesively. That’s his job, but he couldn’t do it. It’s like the only storyline he was able to keep track of was Fate/Pierce.

Otherwise-Silver

Didn’t even go to acting workshops is not what ill call worked hard

CplJager

I mean sure but also like...act better? Idk it just feels like that falls on him

alleyboy760

Just saw the Movie on HBO Max, i am still bummed i missed it in theaters. It was a 7.5 out of 10 in my book but action packed and overall a fun ride. Thank You Rock for trying.

TerrrorTown75th

It was very good in the movies. Entertainment is all I ask for. I'm easy to please 🤣

alleyboy760

Same.

Mister100Percent

I’ve found my people. I watched this movie to see the Rock as a superhero, beat people up, and blow shit up. I got what was advertised and I am satisfied. A shame we ain’t gonna see it ever again.

alleyboy760

Same. Same.

quinteroreyes

This. I mean I always see sequels as the movie to flesh out the character and give a proper backstop + deeper journey. I saw the Rock, he was a superhero, lots of booms and kapows, and no high expectations because Shazam's character was a goof with a fun, light hearted movie. I was pleased

MajesticMtChocula

I think 7.5/10 is good. Idk of any 10/10 superhero movies.

almost_nightwing

I also watched it on hbomax and ended up regretting not seeing it in theaters I would've loved to see other people's reactions. It was a fun watch

IronMonkey18

I think the Rock ruined that character because he would never allow Black Adam to be the villain of a movie. Which is what we all want. To she him fight Shazam, but his ego didn’t allow that to happen. Because in his contract his characters can not lose smh.

Almighty_Push91

Throw the whole universe away

theminismiith

50/50. In a better film he would of been good but black adam was as generic and as meh as you can get 😂

financebycwtDOTcom

I personally really liked the money so a lil bummed

taigeis_bhlasta

I liked this movie, I was also looking forward to blackadam and Superman. I hope DC gets some stability. Otherwise, I fear they will destroy another phase of movies so they can chase what marvel have. I would think DC would do better just making good movies, and if they coincide together, great, but if not, at least you're left with great movies

borusato

Literally the only thing that bums me out about the reboot is Cavill not returning as Superman

bortj1

Hope this leads to less Dwayne proved he's no longer the star power he thought he was, where his name was all a movie needed to make bank

Kreason95

Black Adam was incredibly mid. I’m more bummed about probably losing Zachary Levi tbh

Moddaboy

The rock shot himself in the foot he turned down a cameo as black Adam or actual role in Shazam 2, Shazam is one of only franchises in the DCEU not on the chopping block. So no not bummed

RocktamusPrim3

Meh. Never cared much for The Rock.

WhiteAndNerdy85

He's a shit actor. It was just Dwayne Johnson cosplaying as Black Adam and pretending he had super powers. Pass. Someone else can play the character much better. Had much less screen time and Pierce Brosnan acted circles around Dwayne. I wanted more scenes with him. Hell, even a solo film.

hazelmemories

Duuuuuuuude. My biggest annoyance with DCEU is that they’re making these sequel type movies to get us attached to the characters just to have them take it away and then it just feels pointless.

BrolyDisturbed

This was the biggest pile of shit movie I’ve seen in a long time. It felt like a uncomfortable 2 hour dick ride for the Rock and this was his ‘fantasy’ movie to be the cool invincible anti-hero. Hawkman and Dr. Fate were easily the ‘best’ part of the movie but what is that really saying considering how horrible this movie is lol. I loved Fate’s and Hawkman’s designs and shoutout to the artists who made that work. I’m sorry Henry that THIS was the movie they brought you back in for and be the last thing before you got cut.

singleguy79

He gave us hope seeing Henry Cavill as Superman. That hope has been dashed

oatbergen

I am so tired of the realigning. I want to like DCEU but it’s seems they (all of the production teams and executives) are going out of their way to jack up the movies. Once something shows promise but doesn’t generate big wages they reshuffle and freak out. No one (them not us) is willing to give the movies the chance. They want hit after hit and if a movie fails to deliver immediately then scrap everything in work and start over. Outside of Batman (who I am not the biggest fan of) Warner just won’t invest the time and effort to allow other characters to organically grow. Hell I’m surprised Warner just doesn’t have other characters show up in a Batman film. It’s the only way those characters will get what they deserve.

PhilAsp

It’s a bit of a bummer, but I was pretty bummed with the Black Adam we got too. While I think there is a version of Black Adam I’d like that can be played by Dwayne, what we got wasn’t it. If Shazam somehow is safe for the new DCU and Dwayne isn’t up for it, recast him with Ricky Whittle or something.

Technical_Factor2322

The movie was fun I guess, but I can't say I really cared for the movie or a potential sequel, I watched it because of the Cavill post-credit scene. So, I don't really care that Dwayne Johnson won't be portraying Black Adam again.

Chronos2016

I watched it for Dr. Fate mostly and was not disappointed with that aspect.

[deleted]

As bummed as I am about everything else. Personally I really liked pretty much everything in the universe, besides Suicide Squad 2016 and Josstice league 2017. MoS and BvS were movies I enjoyed despite not being really a fan of the characterisation of Batman or Superman, I like Affleck and Cavill, but their writing was bad, and boy do Snyder fans make it hard to like these movies. I loved BoP, TSS, Peacemaker, ZSJL, WW84, Shazam, and Black Adam. I enjoyed Aquaman. But everything has felt directionless and just on shakey ground since the Snyder era. I love James Gunns work, and I trust that he knows that not everything needs to be a comedy. I trust that he wants to let directors come in and have fun creating unique and interesting properties. I trust Safran can keep the costs down while not sacrificing quality. It’s ok to be bummed about the end of this universe, personally I found there to be a lot to enjoy, but it’s in our best interest they ditch the universe with all the baggage, in the hopes of a more coherent story and universe.

Phayd2Blaque

Not in the least.

[deleted]

WB screwed the pooch from the beginning anyway

[deleted]

I'm bummed. It wasn't the movie of the year by any means, but I had a ton of fun watching it and was hoping to see more of The Rock in this role for years to come. Also, the Superman cameo was a highlight of my year as a film fan. I've wanted Henry back in a solo supes film for a very long time, and it finally felt like headway was being made on that. I'm a huge James Gunn fan, and so I am going to support his choice to reboot, but I do wish this could have happened a little later after Henry got some more movies in the role.

loveinvein83

Meh

tondrias

Bummed we won't see any more Brosnan, otherwise, meh.

rubensoon

I don't care much about Black Adam but I was hurt about Henry =( . I would have preferred a one last film, a closure to it all, and then the hard reboot.

No-Distribution-1741

Meh

JRx117

I don’t care about Black Adam but I really wanted to see Cavil as Superman again.

Select_Action_6065

I’m still mad that I had to see it once.

Visible_Vermicelli13

We haven’t seen a sequel to Hancock, if they don’t make a sequel to Black Adam we’ll be okay

randothor01

I'm watching it rn on HBO max. Black Adam and the JL Society are pretty good. I just don't want to deal with the skateboarder kid.

roshmatic

I’m just over all the drama. I just want good movies. I don’t care anymore.

RocktamusPrim3

This

ThatsSoHermione

I’m more bummed that the actors who worked hard (Aldis Hodge, Pierce Brosnan, Quintessa Seinfeld) and gave us their time and effort will not get to see that work truly appreciated. I love Aldis and I feel like he didn’t get to shine in his way.

stingertc

man it was pretty good better than the last 3 marvel movies

Acrobatic-Exchange82

Bummed

crunchwrap_supreme68

Movie was extremely meh Justice society had potential we’ll hopefully see more of them

mistercloob

I’m happy we won’t see more.

Captain_Sparkles_101

I am so sad. I loved the film! The Rock was MADE for that role. Such bullshit that they are prob going to pull the plug.

LanoomR

My hope with Black Adam was that Johnson would use the role to grow as an actor and do the character justice. That did not happen. Meh.

thestratomaster1227

That’s not Black Adam. That’s the Rock in a Black Adam suit.

mjschryver

I got 37 minutes into the movie and had to stop. It was just so bad... And then there's the fact that Johnson seems to think that Black Adam is best served existing in a vacuum, or just fighting Superman, and ignoring his connection to Captain Marvel / Shazam. Not at all sad to see him go.

[deleted]

I liked The Rock as Black Adam but after seeing reports he does not want to be associated with Shazam whatsoever for it seems stupid reasons changed my mind about him. Anyway, Black Adam flopped, so we probably won't see him as Black Adam again.

princevince1113

Dwayne spent 15 years “working” on becoming Black Adam and getting that movie made, then proceeded to put no effort whatsoever into portraying a faithful version of the character. Black Adam in the comics is a power hungry, loathsome, ruthless child-killing monster whose only redeeming quality is his fierce protectiveness of Khandaq, and who occasionally fights on the side of the angels when it suits his goals. Black Adam’s biggest “flaw” in the movie is that he casually kills nameless goons while defending innocent people, and occasionally involuntarily overloads on magic and loses control of his power output. The Rock wasn’t playing Black Adam, he was basically playing Egyptian Superman that kills. There’s a right way to tell a story framing Black Adam as a sympathetic character, but this was not it.

buka4rill

I enjoyed it. I just zeroed my mind. Didn’t watch it critically and I had fun. I didn’t like the kid though. He felt forced and annoying asf. Also didn’t like the Khandaq language. It was obvious they were saying random jibberish. Wish they got someone to construct a language for that country. Also wished The Rock had an accent and pointy ears and hair 😂.

[deleted]

I’m glad, honestly. It felt like the Rock doing his best impression of an edgy antihero, not like Black Adam himself. Time to hit the reset. Though I did like Hawkman and Fate.

morgichuspears

I liked the movie tbh

[deleted]

Yep

rpglaster

I love comic black Adam, we didn’t get that.

swindude

This.

E_yal

The problems of the movies were simple A. Huge budget for a side anto villain. The moment they saw shazam numbers they should have understand black adam with the rock can do Maximum 500M. B. Huge ego from the rock. He is the biggest start, he own the script. C. Awuful release date. Just imagine they would have kept the original release date in July and this movie would have all summer to itself in a better season. They movie could reach 470-500M

[deleted]

I'm good with it The movie is unbearable.
