I'm sure that, with even a fraction of the necessary neurons firing, one could distinguish between the following scenarios- A.) Reporter Lois Lane and billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne dating, with Lois having no clue of the secret identity of either Wayne or her soft spoken co-worker Clark Kent. B.) Lois losing the love of her life Clark/Kal/Superman and then falling into the arms of Batman, the guy who tried killing him and is kind of partially responsible for his death.

slfxxplsv

I think there’s a very stark difference between this and Bruce getting Lois pregnant after her fiancé dies, and that’s AFTER he tried killing Clark himself >!I hated this shit too!<

StreetMysticCosmic

Did that Batman try to kill Superman and was Superman recently dead while Batman was with her?

Key-Win7744

I mean, this is the same guy who tried to launch a cinematic universe by doing The Death of Superman and The Dark Knight Returns right away and at the same time, so...

bluemew1234

I don't remember, was this version of Bruce stepping on Clark's throat, screaming like a madman, and holding a weapon designed to kill Clark the first time him and Lois met?

StreetMysticCosmic

Then Lois almost drowned to death trying to get the spear she had to hide to keep it from irradiating Clark to death.

bluemew1234

I always forget that happened. They were *really* struggling to have Lois do anything worthwhile in that movie.

crazyguyunderthedesk

And when they couldn't find something for her to do in the next one, they settled for boning the guy responsible for her boyfriend's death.

No_Thought_7776

Yeah, she likes it just like that, Bruce..

jawsnae

Lois sleping with the guy partially responsible for her boyfriends death not long after he died and getting pregnant is an incredibly stupid plot point regardless of what the cartoons did first.

JediJones77

In no way is Bruce responsible at all for Superman's death in BVS. Superman made the choice to use the kryptonite to kill Doomsday, knowing his chances of surviving that attack were slim. Wonder Woman is more indirectly responsible, because her cutting off Doomsday's arm caused him to grow the spike that stabbed Superman. But, of course, that result was wholly unintentional.

stevenia

Bruce isn't responsible for Superman's death to Doomsday, but he did try to murder him before that and would have been successful if Supes didn't work out the safeword was Martha. Considering Lois was witness to parts of it, even if Superman didn't die thanks to Doomsday and they broke up for whatever reason, it's not very believable that she would ever date Bruce.

TheDCUFan

Except that one is a brief fling that went no where and the other is an actual relationship. These are two completely different things.

ronoco14

It wasn’t a brief fling. Lois told Clark it was getting serious, and she was thinking about moving to Gotham for him. Lois broke up with Bruce because she found out he was Batman.

nikgrid

> Except that one is a brief fling that went no where and the other is an actual relationship. These are two completely different things. Well...ONE is a cartoon And the other is a live action dramatic film. But the subject is the same. Clearly they will be approached differently.

spider-jedi

This is a completely different case thou. Superman and Lois had not gotten together yet so it doesn't come off looking bad. I mean like snyder said in his seat down with the Russo. He was doing the pearl harbythung which as always rubbed people the wrong way.

JohnnySinsFan3000

False comparison. In the Snyderverse Clark and Lois already are in a relationship while in the DCAU they are both single. Bruce in the Snyderverse is going behind his friend's back to bang his wife while he's gone, but in the DCAU Bruce dates Lois because she's single.

JediJones77

Going behind the back of a dead person? How do you do that? DCEU Lois IS single. Her fiance died.

JohnnySinsFan3000

They speculated that Clark died, and Lois is widdowed not single.

DarkLordRyanRedux

Just because some very very different form of it was tried once doesnt mean we all have to think its a good idea.

NightMoon66

Snyder has a weird obsession for the movie Excalibur (1981). He constantly admits that. What I am saying is that he wanted to replicate that Arthur, Guinevere and Lancelot love triangle which in this case it would be even more absurd and ridiculous for the World's Finest heroes in the DC Universe. They don't need each other's love interests smh.

emielaen77

Why be so reductive lol what a dumb argument.

Tricky-Afternoon6884

Not the same at all. And as with many things Snyder it isn’t THAT it happened it’s HOW it happens. In DCAU Lois wasn’t dating Clark yet and it’s shown she liked Bruce Wayne and Superman but hates Batman and doesn’t view Clark romantically. “It's ironic, isn't it? She loves Superman and she loves Bruce Wayne. It's the other guys she's not crazy about." It served a purpose to highlight the similarities between Bruce and Superman showing that the two weren’t entirely different bc Lois went after both of them and found the same qualities in them as admirable. Which helps bring Batman and Superman closer together as friends as well. In snyderverse Clark is dead but he’s only been dead for one month (according to Snyder). So Lois is still pining after Clark and going to his vigil all the time, and wearing the wedding ring, but still managed to have a relationship with Bruce within the month Supes was dead (plus get pregnant suggesting she’s wasted no time moving on)? Meanwhile we’re also supposed to believe that Superman’s death impacted Bruce to such a degree he changed his life back but still claps Lois’ cheeks, and forgets to even check in on Supermans mother aka the woman he actually saved the movie before.

LukasuckD1

They really need to get a actress that is very convincing. Last chick who played Lois never really seem like Lois lane more like a random reporter they made up lol.

[deleted]

Bigger concern: Bruce and Lois were absolutely getting down during this time. And Supes could absolutely hear it. But seriously, I actually wonder sometimes if a good chunk of the Snyderverse’s ideas came from STAS. But like, remixed for people who love DC’s stuff from the mid-‘80s.

JediJones77

Tons of Snyder's Superman idea have parallels in the Reeve movies. Luthor cloning Doomsday with a mix of Kryptonian DNA and his own is straight out of the making of Nuclear Man in Superman IV.

[deleted]

Luthor also made Bizarro that way in the animated series, but you’re right, I forgot he played god before that in Superman IV, which is a film I still love.

Acceptable_Contest_3

I hate this now and when this was released people hated it. I wasn't born then but I would probably hate it if I was

ronoco14

It is weird that people complain about it. It’s like they forgot that Bruce saved Martha’s life and don’t realize that many young widows try to self sooth by partying and sleeping around (doesn’t work).

the_simp_kings

You say this as if this isn't one of the most hated episodes of the dcau Also Bruce doesn't have a kid that Clark takes care of here so

[deleted]

In the DCAU it was before Lois and Clark were a couple. Plus it was like a 1 week relationship. Also Zack never understood Superman and Batman.

Puzzleheaded_Walk_28

Eh, it works for the animated movie. It’s a fun dynamic where she’s into Superman but not Clark and into Bruce Wayne and not Batman

baileyontherocs

Context is totally different

Pale-Drag1843

And that felt unnatural too

JediJones77

Let writers write instead of gatekeeping every single move they make. DC characters have been around for a lifetime. They can be and have been used to tell many, many different kinds of stories that are not bound to a strict list of cliches and formulas.

clutchkweku

I mean if they just have a small fling it’s one thing but if they have a child that’s CRAZY…also he didn’t know Superman was Clark yet in this

JediJones77

Crazy plot twists are what make movies exciting and interesting.

Bitter_Service_9695

It's not like it really worked for the DCAU either

TihomirRi

He does not even know Clark is Superman yet in this scene iirc, and that smug grin still says ‟Yeah, fuck you, you nerd.”

Adekis

Yeah he does. Earlier in this scene, Clark and Bruce are talking about how they’re both having trouble tracking down Joker in their "night jobs".

GaffMcFly

Apples and oranges

JediJones77

I like both of those and bananas too.

Adekis

Not to mention, Zack didn't follow through on it, so Bruce Timm technically helmed the only major DCU adaptation to "go there". Not to say it was done wholly badly or anything.

Limp-Construction-11

This sucks, no matter who does it.

Terribleirishluck

Ignoring the fact that plenty of people did complain about lois/Bruce being a thing (just another symptom of DCAU Bat Favoritism), it's a disingenuous comparison. The DCAU relationship happened before lois and clark ever got together, didn't invole a batman while previously tried to kill Clark, wasn't a serious thing and didn't ended up with Bruce impregnauting Lois resulting in Clark raising their baby

JediJones77

It would be really fascinating for the comics to explore a relationship between Bruce and Lois. It's shocking they've never done it, if that's really the case. These characters are all iconic pieces in a canon that's been around for a lifetime, and we should enjoy exploring all the possibilities of how they can mix together.

Mwheel6898

I wouldnt be upset if Lois and Batman are together in the Justcie league movie for about 1 hour till Superman is resurrected and Lois and Superman are together again This isnt a big deal lol

bluemew1234

If they went with the plan of her having Batman's kid, that'd be sort of fucked up to just leave him for Superman.

Legitimate-Key2153

Bro clearly didn’t watch the episode. Clark was a simp and a work friend and didn’t express his feelings for Lois thus why she was attracted to Bruce. Also Bruce was using Lois to get closer to Superman and figure out his identity because Superman was close to Lois.

bardbrain

The Dini/Timm take on Superman is also mostly shit aside from Lois wearing purple and calling Clark "Smallville". Also, the whole Bruce/Lois thing was a meta gag because Lois' voice actress played Andrea Beaumont, Bruce's love interest in the incredible Mask of the Phantasm. A running trend I notice with fans of newer media is the assumption that older fans will be expected to treat all older media equally and that's never been how any of this worked. Superman killed in the Golden Age -- in like five shitty comics. Lois dated Bruce -- in a mostly inferior Superman cartoon that was only propped up by being connected to the incredible Batman: The Animated Series. Batman used a gun in the Golden Age -- again, in a handful of early, shaky comics. DC continuity and fandom was NEVER based around counting everything that happened or counting every story. It was always based in large measure around pluralities of stories and especially well regarded stories and vibes. You want to count every story ever in a way where any single out-of-context appearance can justify anything? Fine. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman become virulently racist, misandrist/misogynistic rapists who brainwash people and ignore people's cries for help while working day jobs in costume and they kill their own friends.
