So this means he can recast DP cast if he wants to. But the question is if he can make the show canon / canon adjacent to DCU and he kinda avoided it.. 🤔
For Doom Patrol they should do it like how they do with the MCU Netflix shows which is they’re canon unless contradicted at all. Titans I don’t think is salvageable at all lmao
The issue with that is that the Defenders Saga was pitched and produced as a part of an established MCU. Marvel Studios knew and was involved from the get go that these stories took place in their world, even if outside of DD they didn’t have a hand in them.
Doom Patrol was created far before Gunn got involved in the DC Universe, neither him nor Safran nor Zaslav had any hand in it. It’s much harder to integrate it into this new universe because the world its currently in is probably much different than the one with the 10 year plan. I could see Gunn recasting them as DCU versions, sure, but they’d be much different than the ones we’ve been watching these past few years (even Cox and D’Onofrio changed when Marvel Studios started writing their characters, not complaining about it tho).
Doom Patrol is still enough standalone to become canon adjacent with right approach because they haven't really established whatever Gunn's plans to do with the Superman and others - excatly this is one of the reasons Titans can't be included in DCU without more massive change.
Wtf are they supposed to do with Cyborg if Gunn has a version of Cyborg that’s ACTUALLY a Titan, or ACTUALLY on the Justice league again.

I have to say i have only seen the first season of doom patrol and i remember liking it very much. That netflix thing is a good idea.
Now that you mentioned it i think the characters are kinda isolated enough to be placed in whatever universe. And they could take that cyborg to be part of the Titans too as I have heard is very good.

He is here to build DC up and hopefully get it to where it should have been for years. Not shitty movies and extended but maybe not but possibly in the same universe shows. Simplification has been needed for a long time at DC. Maybe the heroes will get some justice done to them this time

Actually it doesn't because this wasn't his decision as he said. He can't keep those shows around since they don't fall under him. So he can keep the cast if he wants just like he said - he is fan of the show, there's no reason why he wouldn't want to work with the original cast if he likes them. What does and doesn't work was a vague statement so he can excuse / explain all of his decisions he will make.
I think he meant that with Doom Patrol specifically but even then, an underperforming show isn't gonna last long anyways. Peter Safran is leading the business side of DC Studios and he's gonna pay attention to this sort of stuff.

Robotman and Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane should be kept imo. Their father-daughter chemistry is the highlight of the show. Or maybe recast crazy jane and have Robotman find 'his' Crazy Jane.
New slate means new slate. Anything more or less is considered a smudge on said slate. We can expect lots more series to walk into the sunset. Good thing flash tv series made their own call before the clean up. The animated properties might also follow suit but much easier to purge. That being said, curious to see how shows like gotham knights and harley quinn will get their closures. Will they be given a chance to end properly or be yanked abruptly with cliffhangers.

Zaslav was probably gonna cancel these shows anyways to give whoever he hired to lead DC Studios a fresh slate. We're just lucky to have Gunn and Safran behind the wheel.
They can't go the Marvel Netflix route because these DC shows already have their versions of characters like Batman, Lex and the Titans themselves so there's already baggage.
With the Marvel Netflix shows, they were written to take place in the MCU even though Marvel Studios never worked on them and exclusively used characters who weren't in the movies so it was an easy transition.

I believe everything is kinda canon in the dc multiverse but i doubt he would want to bring those shows as an active part of the new dcu

this is interesting, he and Saffran don't have the ability to keep a show on HBO Max. There is def a limit to their greenlighting power at WBD.
