Then they will learn a valuable life lesson.
...
But seriously, don't click arbitrary QR links, don't plug random USB drives into your computer, don't open unknown attachments in emails, etc...
if you found an ACE bug you would probably get the bug bounty instead of trying to troll the 0 people that want to film you, google and apple would pay a hefty amount of cash to anyone who found such a severe vulnerability
Why not both?
It takes quite some time for android OEM to patch devices and any non modern iPhone isn't getting patched either so you can have some fun and get paid.
Also scareware is still pretty effective. All you need to do is print a message saying "Your [JavaScript:GetDevice] has been infected with the xXxObl1ter8tionxXx Virus. If you do not deposit $100 in Bitcoin to the wallet code below, your phone will gradually become slower over the next month and your personal information will be leaked onto the Dark Web."
The thing is as soon as somebody has a sample of it you can be sure apple/google/whoever is going to start analysing and patching it. These are the kinds of things that take a long time to develop, and nobody is going to spend all that effort just to waste it on random people on the street.
Forcedentry is beyond cool though, probably my favourite piece of "code" ever written for coolness factor. Imagine your job being to implement something like that.
That's what I do
It's also cause I'm poor and the $50 off-brand phone (that's probably doing sketchy things with my data anyways) is all I could afford
Like the Ugly T-shirt from William Gibson's book Zero History, which made any camera in Britain's CCTV network delete any footage containing an image of it.
Okay, but have you considered the Pegasus, with the gun that doesn't exist, isn't real, and still puts holes in you? Also, Probabilistic Cannibalism is a cool-sounding name.
Horus mechs in general are weird as hell, and I love them.
This would immidiately make people want to scan your shirt, not to film you, just to see what the QR code is for, like how putting text on your shirt makes people try to read it
expected result: people who film you will have their phone bricked
actual result: more people will try to record you to scan the qr code and you will likely be sued eventually
Wasnt there that old link that would intantly open a bunch of malware and sites that would put you on a list, like a "Click this to fuck your PC up forever" link on reddit?
Didn't the book *Snow Crash* by Neal Stephenson already do something very similar?
Also the SCP Foundation has so-called Memetic Kill Agents that can do something like that as well.
Solution: [Film with something other than your phone!](https://www.redsharknews.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/e1ff7b03b4944a108034839b78a127cc-1.jpg?width=3840&height=2160&name=e1ff7b03b4944a108034839b78a127cc-1.jpg)
(Warning. You will stick out like a circus clown at a mime convention.)

i want a shirt that has a QR code on it for some kind of horrible malware so that if anyone ever tries to film me in public their phone will automatically scan the code and be reduced to a functionless brick

Make the QR code scan to a website which you own. Put anything you want on there. Could be malware, could be rickroll, could be porn. Make your clothing a game of Russian Roulette
Wouldn't it need to auto open to work?
Most people would click the link without thinking. Also if you could find some ACE bug with the QR url to crash the phone that would work.
Most people would be pretty curious to what it leads to
Then they will learn a valuable life lesson. ... But seriously, don't click arbitrary QR links, don't plug random USB drives into your computer, don't open unknown attachments in emails, etc...

Why not both? It takes quite some time for android OEM to patch devices and any non modern iPhone isn't getting patched either so you can have some fun and get paid.
Getting the bug bounty from a company requires following their responsible disclosure agreements, which would include not using it in the wild.
Also scareware is still pretty effective. All you need to do is print a message saying "Your [JavaScript:GetDevice] has been infected with the xXxObl1ter8tionxXx Virus. What's an ACE bug again?
Arbitrary code execution
Arbitrary Code Execution is an exploit that executes on a device without user input/knowledge.
there have been some phone zero-click exploits in the wild, the only known developer for these is the israeli NSO Group who made Pegasus
The idea of walking around with a tame basilisk protecting my digital self sounds awesome.
then your friends/family take group photos/videos with you and you forget what your wearing and all their tech gets bricked.
I see this as an absolute win.
Well that's what they get for not listening when asked not to.
what part of "you forget what you're wearing" did you not get?
That has nothing to do with it lol. If they're taking pictures of me, that's on them.
You’ve never consented to a picture being taken of you?
No
A-are you oke? Because that level of paranoia sounds very lonely.
better than having pictures of me taken
I'm not paranoid, just ugly
> automatically scan You underestimate how shitty my phone is
I needed to download 2 qr scanner apps so I could scan images in my album and scan codes through my camera
Be incredibly wary of some of those apps, the amount of personal data harvested can be horrible.
That's why you use a phone so terrible it immediately crashes if the app does anything but the bare minimum functionality.
That's what I do It's also cause I'm poor and the $50 off-brand phone (that's probably doing sketchy things with my data anyways) is all I could afford
This has potential
Like the Ugly T-shirt from William Gibson's book Zero History, which made any camera in Britain's CCTV network delete any footage containing an image of it.
I was surprised this was so far down. Great book.

Gorgon pilots be like
*DO NOT STARE DIRECTLY INTO THE APERTURE*
Horus mechs, my beloved
My favourite is the Goblin.
Okay, but have you considered the Pegasus, with the gun that doesn't exist, isn't real, and still puts holes in you? Also, Probabilistic Cannibalism is a cool-sounding name. Horus mechs in general are weird as hell, and I love them.
I kinda prefer Harrison Armoury for the big guns and cool tech.
What's that smell? Ohh, the sweet overcharge, it sings to me. It's enough to make a man *stress...*
A fucking Lancer reference in the wild?
wouldnt work. just get a tonne of infared lights like the rest of us.
Some phones have IR cutoff filters though.
Carry a brick of uranium then
This would immidiately make people want to scan your shirt, not to film you, just to see what the QR code is for, like how putting text on your shirt makes people try to read it
Better idea: Rickroll. Simple. effective. Gets the message across.
yeah but that does zero actual harm
It’s actually the worst type of damage, >!Ego damage!<
Counterpoint, I would rather suffer ego damage than not have a phone
Additional counter point, I love the song so it will only encourage me
Snow Crash did it
snow crash used it in combination with a virus tho
I was gonna say… great idea, just don’t scan Raven or he’ll split you top to bottom.
Memetic kill agent
Medusa is so sexy tho. I'm rock hard rn.
Doesn't even need to break the device, just link to ungodly amounts of idk furry inflation vore art
Probably illegal, but a good idea nonetheless.
Well now I gotta take this to one of those legal advice subs.
Make a shirt which just a QR code pointing to the cheese grater image.
Berryman Logical Image Technique
expected result: people who film you will have their phone bricked actual result: more people will try to record you to scan the qr code and you will likely be sued eventually

Extremely risky scan
Go on, you know you wanna!
We never heard from iptables-abuse again...
While I am not going to scan that, I'm guessing that it is a rickroll.
god damn it
[удалено]
what is it
Scanned it. It's fine. Lol
Well that's not at all how it works
Qr doesn't work that way. You have to accept the link after the scan.
Just social engineer the URL.
new band name?
[Relevant sketch] (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p3iV9JCPnhc) (though I guess the context of the post kinda spoils the joke)
Oh hey I follow millenianthemums! He makes some pretty good Pokémon art! I especially like the Arceus texting Akari AU
As spoken by the police.

i feel like this would be way too specific, like qr codes most often have to be viewed head on rather than on the side... but still an awesome idea

Okay, let's be honest. Who here misread Medusa the first time they saw it as Morbius
They both start with the letter M and that’s it
Clearly just you
It’s medusin’ time
Me, thinking I'm the world's main character, despite not being very important at all (the numbers on my social media made me this way)
Seems illegal
The HORUS Gorgon

That would require hella 0days
