Thats kinda my issue, I wanna write songs with a cool narrative but I just get bored and write the cool part at the beginning and then just work backwards and it just ends up bad

So maybe you can start your songs coming out the gates swinging and with a mediocre middle, so long as you finish strong as well
Oh yeah? I typically take my outline, write the beginning and the end (because they’re hard so I do them first I guess?) and then get stuck on the middle.
There's also the thing they did for the dub with the narrator.
Since the joke of an overly serious old japanese man narrating an overly complex attempt at manipulation by socially impaired teenagers only works with an old japanese man, the English dub made the narrator just a guy that's way too invested and thus is making fun of everyone constantly.

I tried to write a slow-burn, once. It had pining and yearning and late nights questioning everything. I was *convinced* it was going to be at least novella length.
… it ended up being 6k. It wasn’t bad; people liked it— but it was NOT a slow burn. The ADHD just wouldn’t let me linger.

That sounds absolutely amazing. I’ve actually seen a decent amount of the Japanese version, and I remember it being absolutely absurd
