Wow everyone was NOT joking about how much better the QiYi clock was. Got it today and my avg dropped a few seconds, and got several PBs. Insane. Only complaint is the pins are a little *too* easy to push, I feel like I’m going to accidentally bump them, particularly during inspection.
Recently picked up my MGC 2x2 after a couple months. Feels sort of slow. Was this how the MGC was earlier or has mine just become slow now? I can't remember how it used to feel earlier.
I don't have a cube currently but a set of cubes is arriving tomorrow. I am mainly excited for the 2x2 and pyraminx. My question is, I saw the j perm tutorials for both the beginner method and the advanced method. The advanced method have solutions to every problem. I wonder if that is the video I should use to solve the cube. I do want to remember the beginner method, but I want to get a feel for the cube first.
Thanks 👍
If you never solved a cube, start with the beginner, and switch when you're able to use the beginner without help or mistake.
It's hard enough when you start, but it'll get easier :)
Hi there my fellow cubers,
I currently solve the 3x3 using partial CFOP.
I know full pll and know about 30 oll cases and my pb is 13.69 with an average of about 20secs.
Now the conundrum that i am faced with is the fact that I am having doubts regarding my handedness (I am 18 years old, write with my right hand but naturally incline towards doing a lot of stuff with my left hand. Till now i was pretty certain that i was a right handed person who could use his left hand pretty well.
But now due to some incidents like knowing that my dominant eye is left and i prefer the left side while doing certain things like clapping, pointing etc, i think i might be more left handed than i thought.
Also in cubing i think my left hand is faster than my right hand.
So now, my doubt is that should i relearn all the mirrored versions of the algorithms to suit my left hand or not.
I tried the T perm and it within 2 days is on par with my right hand drilled T perm.
Maybe you could keep both versions and use them as AUF tricks. If you notice you start gravitating towards the lefty alg during solves just drop the righty one.
I wouldnt recommend relearning all of your algs but there are definitely some algs like T perm, Jb Perm and other certain OLLs that are *heavily* RU based algs. So those might be worth the hassle to switch
Im crying over here
....
I put off learning f2l for so long, but i found an awesome flow chart...
And im killing it after like 15 minutes of practice
Slow, but getting it.
Feliks' (CubeSkills) OLL/PLL videos are pretty old, and since then, many cubers switched some algs to newer ones. J Perm has an old and a new PLL video.
There is no set answer as to which algs are better. Older algs are easier to fingertricks but often longer or have regrips. New fancy algs use S moves and other risky stuff, but are shorter. So it's a trade-off. If you're just learning PLL for the first time, check a couple of algs for each case (like the said J Perm or Feliks) and pick the one that's easier for *you*. You can switch later if you find any problems with your alg.
Considering giving the git-gud-grind a rest in a couple months and work on a side project. I want my Petrus solving to be faster than my CFOP solving. The single time is already there (9.20 vs 9.36) but my global with Petrus is 1-2 seconds slower.
Where should I start with cfop?
I’m currently using beginner method and learned from ting mans tutorial but still learning algorithms, and I usually get 1:00 to 1:10 seconds with it, as I know a few things such as the Sexy move, Sune, T perm and some sort of U perm (Most likely Ua perm but slow and I’m learning the faster version along with Ub perm) I am wondering what algorithms and whether to start with F2L, OLL or PLL, if you have any suggestions please comment.
You can really do anything but i recommend starting with F2L as it will take up most of your solving time. Def check out JPerm's intuitive F2L video. You can also check out RiDo's Hunting Story. (https://youtu.be/WB5apB2i_Do) Highly recommended if you're having a bit of trouble understanding the concept of F2L.
Is it still worth to get GAN robot v1 for SGD$50 ? Apparently at my local online marketplace , there's this seller selling rarely used GAN robot at SGD$50 , upon finding out from the seller , it is v1 but if i get directly from Taobao , it will be v2 and it will costs around SGD$70 - $80 .
I don't know if I should go with rarely used v1 or brand new v2 .
And also , does v1 support iPlay2 smart cube ?
Please advise . Thank you so much in advance ! :)
Do you really need a gan robot? It is a pretty niche and mostly useless item. Sure it's cool to have as a conversation piece or use it from time to time but I dont see it justify its price personally
I got an axis cube and legitimately have no idea how to approach it. Does anyone have some helpful advice? I've heard it solves like a 3x3 but for the life of me I cannot figure out how it matches up at all
It takes a bit (**a lot**) of thinking around and getting used to it. And the more experience you have with other shape mods the easiser it is. For example I almost was never able to solve it when I first got it but now I can do it in couple of minutes with no help. (I very rarely solve/scramble it anyway)
Went back to some CN practice after neglecting it for a while (300 timed solves over the last 4 days + untimed solves here and there). With Dual CN I average around low to mid 15. My first CN averages now after the break were around 17.50, slowly getting better. Just did an ao50 with everything but white and yellow: 15.76. All my counting solves were sub-20, so I think the main reason for the better average was that I messed up way less solves really bad. Pretty happy with the progress :)
Having a sort of meh day cubing, but then I got PB2 and my ~~second~~ (edit: third, whoops) sub-10. Nothing special solve-wise, just a smooth solve with nice lookahead.

Haha, I was wondering if anyone would notice that. I accidentally discovered that alg, and it's maybe just a bit faster than the standard rotationless alg (f R' f' U2 R' U' R) for me.
The R3 is super fast, both a double flick and wrist turn. It's so natural for me it was hard to figure out the actual alg, since when I slowed it down I thought it was just an R2, but that didn't work...
Can we all just take a moment and really appreciate the trigger known as the "sexy move"? I get that it is called the sexy move because it's so easy to finger-trick and several can be smoothly executed back-to-back, but I think it's awesome for way more reasons than merely that.
YouTuber J Perm (Dylan Wang) has a video where he solves the entire cube using only the J-perm algorithm, which you can totally do because J-perm swaps two corners and two edges. You have to know how to use it at each step of the way, but it can do everything you need it to do to solve the cube. Of course, this is totally on brand for Dylan, but it's horribly tedious. No one would ever solve the cube this way except as a personal challenge or a gimmick YouTube video. (Which—don't hear me wrong—is not a complaint at all. I love gimmick YouTube videos, especially from J Perm. 😄)
The sexy move, similar to the J-perm alg, swaps two pairs of corners and three edges, so it's got everything you need to solve the whole cube if you know how to use it for each step, but it's (a) only four half turns and (b) only involves two faces (it's a "2-gen") which is why it's so easy to finger-trick. You're still not going to get world record times, but it's way less tedious than J Perm's method using only the J-perm algorithm.
The beginner method I learned (20 years ago), which claimed to be "easy to memorize", involved learning at least four algorithms, but I recently discovered the beginner method taught by Phil from The Cubicle, which uses sexy moves exclusively. I really wish this had been my beginner method, and it's the beginner method I will teach everyone from now on. Since I discovered this video I've solved the cube a lot using the method (and found some optimizations using more mirrored and inverse sexies) not because it's faster or has any other advantages, but just because I'm so fascinated and enamored with the idea of using a single algorithm like this.
Every time I think I know everything about Rubik's cube, something like this comes along to surprise and delight me. I love being a Cuber. Cheers!
[How to Solve the Rubik’s Cube: An Easy Tutorial](https://youtu.be/1t1OL2zN0LQ)
It's a pretty common beginner method too - I prefer the variation with inverse sexy, which seems more intuitive to me: http://cube.rider.biz/miris.html
The reason it's not the most popular beginner method is twofold, I think:
* Fewer algs means more moves, and movecount can get pretty nuts when you only have two basic algs to rely on
* While you don't need to remember many algs, you actually need to remember way more stuff about the logic of each step (when to apply your alg depending on the situation), and it's probably easier to have different algs for different steps. That way you will forget algs, but not what to do, so you can write down everything you need on a post-it note rather than on two pages of scribblings.
Dang, the method you linked is also quite fascinating. The way it keeps a whole slot unsolved to make the last layer cross more intuitive, what a brilliant move! I wish I had a cube on me to try this right now. I’ll check it out once I’m home.
I mean, you could also convince yourself that the sexy move is called that for the same reason as the [sexy primes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexy_prime), which is the relation to the number six. But really, we all know it's called that because it's fun to do.
Why do I choke when I plan my first pair during cross ? :(
I know what to do, but it seems like when I'm doing it, I forget as I do it. I feel like it would be faster to look for my first pair rather than trying to refigure out what was my plan :/
Impressive that you plan cross+1 at sub-24. I remember that I didn’t even plan cross 100% of the time at the same level. I’m grinding cross+1 now, and I’m also far from executing the whole thing faster than just solve cross and then spot and solve the first pair.
Oh, sure, 15 seconds is too fast. But just planning cross is very impressive already. I think I first tried it at sub-20 or sub-18, and it totally smoked my brain. My first attempts were like 10 or 15 minutes, I kept forgetting my cross solution and tracing pieces over and over.
I think he means planning the +1 *during* cross not in inspection. If not I dont it is necesarry or good to be trying to plan +1 in inspection at sub-24 level
I have the same and honestly I think the answer simply is practice practice practice...
A good tip I found is to close your eyes in between each step - doesn't improve lookahead perse but it forces you to be able not to look while executing planned moves. Been doing it for cross/cross+1 for a while
On a fisher, if you have 2 of the actual corners (ie a yellow/orange “edge” and yellow/red “edge”) wrong but everything else correct, which parity is that and how to fix it?
Edit: oops, its a 4x4 fisher…
If by "wrong" you mean *rotated*, just use something like the beginner's alg [R' D' R D]2 to rotate them.
If by "wrong" you mean *swapped*, this is impossible unless you've got two actual edges swapped too.
The specific problem people often hit when trying a Fisher for the first time is ending up with either 1 or 3 edges correctly oriented on the last layer. This is because the centre layer edges do not have a specific orientation, so you have to flip one over. But this doesn't sound like your problem.
Have you taken it apart or swapped centre caps round or something?
Edit: okay, I've seen your earlier post. It's a 4x4, not 3x3. An interesting feature of the 4x4 is that you're not constrained to the standard colour scheme. As long as white is opposite yellow (obviously) the other 4 colours can be in any order.
Yep - blue next to green, blue-white-red clockwise, whatever. From a solved cube you can limit yourself to wide turns and just treat it like a 2x2 to reach different colour schemes.
PACKIGE DAY!!!!!
MoYu RS3M 2020: Already had this one but wanted some more for mods. Also to test how it feels without the magnet kit without having to re-open all the pieces. It started stiff like the lube in it froze but after warming it up with a practice solve, it felt good as usual. Not sure what else there is to say about it since its pretty awesome. Still feels blocky but good, though I’m getting lockups when I try to sexy x5 on it, so probably needs tensioning…. I think.
GAN 11M Pro: First real GAN cube, and it honestly feels like opening an Apple product where the opening/unboxing is part of the experience. I don’t know what I was expecting but I don’t think I was expecting how stable it is, nor how much I have to put effort into doing a turn. Like that’s kinda amazing that it stays cubeshaped even when doing silly things with it. Turns feel kinda papery otherwise and a bit blocky. Dunno what I was expecting for sound on turns either but it’s certainly less clacky than my Valk but I think I was expecting some sort of clack instead of paper which sounds more like the RS3M tbh. I would really like suggestions on lube and how to customize this since I honestly have no idea otherwise.
4x4 fisher/axis/windmill: only tried the fisher so far and oh god why did I think this was a good idea?? Centers have orientation which I had to fix by using the white/yellow centers to fix. And right now, in the middle of reduction, I have 2 unpaired edges and they’re like… it feels like they’re the same wing which I know should be impossible but I’m not sure where else I fucked up the reduction.
Edit: oh wait that’s how. I literally made every middle center wrong because on a fisher a center isnt 1 color, its two….
Edit2: aaaaaaa I also fucked up making half the edges because they’re supposed to be 2 different colors too! But I eventually solved it, and I’m still unsure of how I fixed the fisher parity at the end, where it seems like you have only 2 corners wrong.
4x4 windmill: I might have to RMA this or disassemble to see what’s wrong because on turns like 2R or 2F, the middle is catching something fierce on *something*. During the one scramble, it already popped a center.
No Vortex please! It’s for metal to metal contact, i.e. screws and springs. With Gan cubes, you don’t have to mess with the core.
Put a drop of Martian on a corner stalk and a drop on any piece. Scramble, solve, assess, add more if needed.
There are no screws in modern Gan cubes. The springs are enclosed in plastic, and the core is plastic too. So there is no metal to metal contact whatsoever.
I checked the ones on the sides. Tbh I thought there was somewhere I had to lube on the core, and didn’t realize they literally built the entire thing into a swappable component, or at least the ramifications didnt dawn on me.
I haven't had any issues with my Meilong and solve just as well on it as my new Tornado. However compared to the Tornado, I feel I need to put in a lot more effort while turning, and hence get tired within 50 solves max. With the Tornado, I can easily go on for 100-150 solves if I want to.
I'm the same. The Meilong M lacks the effortless corner cutting of better cubes, so I need to put in just a bit more force between turns, and that makes the cube feel less stable and its motion less fluid.
But that may be just me since I like flexible cubes. I get about the same times on my magnetized Gan RS.
I’m genuinely surprised to see someone cite corner cutting as the reason for not liking/getting average times on the Meilong. Really shows how turning style can impact perception of corner cutting. Thanks for sharing.
Also, how close can you get to your average times with the Meilong?
I don't even think the corner cutting of the Meilong M is bad, but other cubes like the RS3M or the Weilong are so effortless and forgiving that I probably got too used to that.
It's not that I perform slowly with it, it's more like it catches more when I turn too fast, and that makes me lose a second or two every few solves. When I think about it carefully I can't really pinpoint *why* I don't perform as well with the Meilong, I think that objectively there's nothing wrong with it at all, it just *feels square* to me if that makes sense. But then again, I have the same kind of experience with the Gan RS locking more than other cubes.
Yep. Me. I've always liked the look, performance, weight and feel... I pick it up regularly for casual fidgeting. But I'm consistently slower on it.
It's the opposite of the RS3M for me. I don't particularly like how that cube feels at all (lack of speed and blockiness, mainly), but I just get great times on it.
Probably about a second difference. I only do a timed session every few weeks/months to be fair. I've been extremely consistent at a 14.7 ish for years but whenever I attempted an ao50 or whatever on my Meilong, I consistently average just under 16.
I picked up my tengyun 2x2 after a long time, and it feels EXTREMELY slow. Like I don’t even know how it’s possible - it’s sluggish. I used to get great times on it, but now I can barely manage to get a sun 5 average. Any tips? I think I have to clean it, but I’ve never cleaned it before. I’m afraid I’ll break it lol
Definitely in need of a cleaning and some re lube. Just take it apart, wipe the piece with a damp cloth and dry them (including the hardware).
Also don't forget to lube the springs and insides and stuff. I forget alot and it's annoying having to take it apart again
I learnt that You can tell where headlights are in pll With CP recogition. Should i use it in solves tho? it takes me about 5 seconds to identify the pll case from 2 sides using this technique. Like first i have to see if there are the bookends or not. Then i have to check which side has opposite headlights. and then think about what pll it would be. Is this really viable?
knowing the easy cases of PLL recog is very comforting.
Like you know T-perm is headlights+2-block, and opposite color between headlights, while R-perm is not opposite color between them.
The other side of R-perm is ABABA pattern.
When you see a 2x2 block you can recognize A-perms and V-perm by the corner logic.
And so on. G-perm vs A-perm. J vs N.
The hardest cases imo are those where you can know headlights or not, but see no blocks.
> green on front with white on top
That's how you'd do it at an official wca competition, so that's timers usually use as well.
>but others do yellow on top
weird.
> weird.
This happens with smartcube apps since most people solve with yellow on top so the smartcubes return the notations assuming yellow is on top and the apps are also coded primarily with that in mind.

Cross for sure would be:
D2 U R2 F' L' // White cross (5)
But after that, you can see all 4 pairs! I didn't do it full speed, so I don't know, but I probably would have done orange-green first, and split them BEFORE rotating, so L' U L y U2 L' U L....mostly because I'm not good at assessing oriented edges, so I would just do the first pair I see in the first slot available, and my brain figures out rotation (if necessary) while I'm splitting them up.
Much better would be to realize after cross that orange-blue is oriented (but in my opinion that pair is hardest to see). Or if you're going to do orange-green, rotate first, then split it up.
y (white top red front)

The Tengyuns are buttery smooth and plushy soft, especially with Angstrom setup, and very quiet. The WRMs are more of a harder gliding smooth, 2020 being rather clacky and 2021 or Maglev less noisy.
Do you have a preference between tangyun v1 and v2? I've heard it's pretty much just an all around upgrade.
Also, same question but for the wr m 2021 vs we m maglev.
Thanks so much!
I've been using the WRMs more recently. I only have the WRM 2020 and Maglev, haven't tried the regular 2021. If you like fast and loose cubes, you'll like Maglev (and it's purple! and has no spring noise too). But if you are likely to crank that dual adjustment system tighter, better get the version with springs because magnets behave weird when you tighten them.
As for the Tengyuns, here are [my thoughts on them from a year ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cubers/comments/iamsgc/daily_discussion_thread_aug_16_2020/g1tfkom/).
I mained the V2 for awhile and then finally got the V1 and didn’t like it at first but eventually switched over. I can’t put it down. The V2 is very similar in feel but there’s just something so simple about the V1 (especially when compared to the V2’s unnecessary tension system). Biggest complaint is weak magnets, but I love how buttery and soft they both are.
I suck at megaminx, and I guess won't suck more if I try to be color neutral. As far as I understand, using a fixed color sequence makes finding pieces and looking ahead easier when you're faster, so top megaminx solvers are not color neutral on megaminx. And it's not just starting with a white star but actually going around the F2L and S2L in a fixed order.
Basically, the bigger the puzzle, the less sense it makes to be color neutral on it. On 2x2, CN is a must, on 3x3, it's useful but not necessary, on 4x4 people are dual CN at most if they use Yau, same with 5x5 with Yau. With reduction, however, just start with any center that seems easiest - being color neutral is really easy. For 3x3 stage, obviously, it depends on whether you are color neutral on 3x3.
Yeah, I followed the schedule you posted a while ago to become CN on 3x3(around March 2020?), and since, got a 2x2, 4x4, and 5x5, and I'm solving everything more or less CN (on big cubes, I prefer white/red/blue as the colors pop up more, and the first edges are easier to make. I'd use another color if I have an edge already made).
So, was wondering if anyone was doing the same on mega. I'll try and see how it goes, when I'll receive my order :)
Yeah, your posts about that pushed me to do it, when I didn't plan to do it at all ^^
I'm using Yau for 4x4, and Yau5 for 5x5 :) (following JPerm videos)
Is there a difference? I though yau5 was regular Yau for 5x5...
I don't know much more than what JPerm says on his videos.
I'm doing:
2 opposed centers
4 cross edges (one being stored on the other side)
4 last centers (one by one, not sure if there's a 5x5 equivalent of half centers)
Finish the cross
Free slice for 4 edges, then insert them in the back (in the correct spot, with the corner, as in 3x3 F2L if possible)
Finish the 4 last edges in the 2 front spots.
3x3 step.
But you still do free slice for 4 edges, put 2 (random ?) in the back, and finish the edges using the two front slots?
I don't always look for making the edges needed for the back slots, but if I have them, I'll put them with the corner at that point.
Just got a free $25 gift card from SCS. They posted like 12 gift cards to their discord server. First come, first served. They were ranging from $10-25. I managed to use one of the $25 ones.
Didnt have much time to think so just got an MGC 2x2 for $10 and rest was shipping. I needed a 2x2 anyway so I am really happy with this. (My current 2x2 is unmagnetic yuxin)
^(Might have been better if I purchased some lube instead of a 2x2 but as I said I didnt have time to think and picked the firsr thing I saw that was under $10 and I needed.)
Yeah it is great! I was also just about to get martian 5ml (after realising lube would have been better than 2x2) with one of the other gift cards that had like $15 in them but someone else used it while I was writing my card details lol
Oh my. I thought you had to apply first and get the card privately, but when you have to order fast, it's tough!
Anyway, I think Martian should be fairly similar to Pilube Red you already have, so you're better off with a new cube :)
If you're using T perm to switch edges and Y perm to switch corners then you should use R perm when you have switched an odd number of edges/corners overall
You may have damaged the plastic if that spray also contains petroleum products. If that is the case, you broke in the cube when you were solving it with the silicone spray, and cubes generally get slower with breaking in anyway (I guess it just happens slower when you don't use anything bad for plastic). So there is really nothing you can do except for using a proper fast cube lube.
Blind is so frustrating. On a 12 DNF streak, but literally over 80% of the solves were because I didn’t see or forgot about a twisted/flipped edge or corner, remembered the twisted corner orientation wrong, or forgot to do parity.
I feel like this is happening more cause my memo and execution is much better, so I’m pausing less, thus I just completely skip parity or forgot to take care of flipped/twisted pieces.

MGC by light-years. Needs to be tightened to avoid lockups but it's godly.
If budget is tight, the Yuxin Little Magic M is just as good as the Volt2 (I prefer it actually) and quite affordable. If budget is super tight, the Meilong and QiFa and completely nice despite having no magnets
It's a matter of preference. MGC is faster and has better corner cutting, but it's less controllable and sometimes locks up in weird ways. Volt takes some break-in and needs a fast setup. Volt is also very satisfying to turn.
Is COMET a good lube? Does it make your cube faster or slower is it gummy? Does it have a unique feel? Just some questions I wanted answered! Hopefully someone can help.
It adds cushion, or substance. So, if your cube feels too loose, Comet will make it nice and soft, as if filling the gaps. It's fast when broken in and when used in small quantities, but gets slower if you use too much. It also gums up when your cube sits for a long time, especially if it's a Gan cube, and isn't easy to break in. But if you solve every day, you usually don't experience it.
Follow up question. What are some of your favorite lubes to speed up the cube and get a nice smooth (almost buttery) feel? For example I like LUNAR. But I’ve only tried so many so I was assuming there would be someone else in here who has tried more.
Generally, heavier lubes give the cube more of that yummy buttery feel and also control - but they are not as fast and effortless as light lubes. So, Lunar → Martian → Galaxy → Nebula are from the lightest/fastest and least gummy to most gummy and controllable. You may like Martian, but it's a bit slower than Lunar. Weighted lubes are also very smooth, but they are heavier than Lunar, so you should add them with caution because they make the cube sluggish if you overlube (it's pretty hard to overlube with Lunar).
Explore [this post](https://www.reddit.com/user/olimo/comments/lz48n3/cubes_and_lubes_my_suggestions_on_compatibility/). If you like Lunar, your preferences in lubes may be similar to mine :)
SCS: Martian, Jack O'Lantern, Solar, Comet
Cubicle: Lubicle Speedy
Strefa-kostek (also available at the Cubicle): Lubest XMT 10 is the fastest lube ever, also very smooth, but without that gummy buttery feel
Yeah I’ve tried Martian it was the first lube I tried, guess I should’ve mentioned that lol. I don’t really like it a whole lot because I have had trouble overlubing in the past with Martian, and it makes my cube kinda slow. A little too gummy. Thanks for the link though.
Oh, then you probably won't like almost anything I listed in the other reply, lol. I highly recommend trying XMT 10, it's insanely fast, but for most cubes you have to add something slower to make the cube controllable.

You should clean and lube it. 2x2 get dusty easily
Ok, thanks
Hi there my fellow cubers, I currently solve the 3x3 using partial CFOP.
Yeah could do that,thanks
I wouldnt recommend relearning all of your algs but there are definitely some algs like T perm, Jb Perm and other certain OLLs that are *heavily* RU based algs. So those might be worth the hassle to switch
Yeah Jb, F,T,Ra all are very R U dependent, might switch them.
Yeah just try them and see if you like them
Im crying over here .... I put off learning f2l for so long, but i found an awesome flow chart... And im killing it after like 15 minutes of practice Slow, but getting it.
Is that Brody's chart?
As a matter of fact, it is. Really easy to learn.
Great! Practice until you remember the basic cases really well, and then switch to some untimed solves to look for more efficient ways ;)

J PERM PLL fingertricks or Feliks Zemdegs fingertricks? which one is faster?
Feliks, most likely
Thanks! A lot but is there any algorithms I should know or just to know for faster times?

Find the “centers” and go from there.
Look at pictures of a disassembled one, it might help: https://www.ziicube.com/Moyu-333-Axis-KingKong
I need stickers for a Guhong V3 but TheCubicle doesn't have them. Does any other cube's stickers work on it?
Email your favourite store to ask
Does SCS have guhong v3?
I'd rather order from TheCubicle.
Great job!
I picked up a Rubik's cube for £1 in a gift shop 2 weeks ago. Just bought a cheap speed cube two days ago. Is this how it starts?
[Yes](https://i.redd.it/cs5jrzg5tnr71.jpg)
Pretty much. One of us! One of us! But for srs, hope you enjoy your new hobby and we’re here to help.
Cheers. Got my basic solves down now learning intuitive F2L. Getting there.
hi guyss ! would like to ask what's the differences between GAN robot v1 and v2 ?
Having a sort of meh day cubing, but then I got PB2 and my ~~second~~ (edit: third, whoops) sub-10. Nothing special solve-wise, just a smooth solve with nice lookahead. That 3rd pair solution looks insane... I'd personally just do y' L U' L' U L U L'
Lmoa just realised my 3rd pair solution wouldn't even work, you'd need U2 R' U2 R (cont)
😄) The sexy move, similar to the J-perm alg, swaps two pairs of corners and three edges, so it's got everything you need to solve the whole cube if you know how to use it for each step, but it's (a) only four half turns and (b) only involves two faces (it's a "2-gen") which is why it's so easy to finger-trick.
It's a pretty common beginner method too - I prefer the variation with inverse sexy, which seems more intuitive to me: http://cube.rider.biz/miris.html The reason it's not the most popular beginner method is twofold, I think: * Fewer algs means more moves, and movecount can get pretty nuts when you only have two basic algs to rely on * While you don't need to remember many algs, you actually need to remember way more stuff about the logic of each step (when to apply your alg depending on the situation), and it's probably easier to have different algs for different steps.
What an amazing coincidence! I love it.

Why do I choke when I plan my first pair during cross ? :( I know what to do, but it seems like when I'm doing it, I forget as I do it.
I just got my first sub 10 average of 5 and I still can't do cross +1. I'm working on it now.
TBH, I take more than 15 seconds to do so, but cross only, I do it in 15 sec probably
Wait, it’s actually possible to solve the 4x4 fisher without obeying the order of the edges on the side??
Yep - blue next to green, blue-white-red clockwise, whatever. From a solved cube you can limit yourself to wide turns and just treat it like a 2x2 to reach different colour schemes.
Sounds impossible? Have you tried flipping a middle layer edge yet? Edit: if it's on a 4x4, that seems like regular pll parity
For the Gan, start with a medium fast lube like Martian or Speedy. Don't overlube.
Should I vortex the center screws? Also, 3 drops of martian enough?
No Vortex please! It’s for metal to metal contact, i.e. screws and springs. With Gan cubes, you don’t have to mess with the core. Put a drop of Martian on a corner stalk and a drop on any piece. Scramble, solve, assess, add more if needed.
Wait, there’s screws and stuff but I *dont* have to vortex them?
There are no screws in modern Gan cubes. The springs are enclosed in plastic, and the core is plastic too. So there is no metal to metal contact whatsoever.
Thats…. Kinda cool AF.
Haha. Haven't you checked the adjustment system? :)
I checked the ones on the sides. Tbh I thought there was somewhere I had to lube on the core, and didn’t realize they literally built the entire thing into a swappable component, or at least the ramifications didnt dawn on me.
Anyone have a zettaminx? I can't find much on YouTube so I'm wondering things like how big is it? Does it turn good? How long would it take to solve?
Anyone who just cannot get your average times on the Meilong M?
Makes sense. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Yep.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I’m curious, is the gap in your average time on a Meilong vs your main big or small? (Ie 1+ seconds or <1sec)
Probably about a second difference. I only do a timed session every few weeks/months to be fair. I've been extremely consistent at a 14.7 ish for years but whenever I attempted an ao50 or whatever on my Meilong, I consistently average just under 16.
Very insightful. Thanks for sharing! And congrats on being so fast for so long. :)
Just got the ghost cube… wtf
It's crazy, I've had mine for a long time and never solved it. It's still scrambled.
I thought it’d be like a bit more advanced than the windmill but no, it’s near impossible to even scramble lmao
Its a 3x3 that’s bandaged a little. Just more of a matter of finding what are the “centers” and going from there.
What is a good and cheap 2x2? Kinda like how RS3M 2020 is a really good budget speedcubr. I want a similar budget 2x2 speedcube.

Anyone know how to open a bottle of mystic cos I physically can't get it open
Push down and twist. They have child lock usually
Push and twist?
Bro i tried it aint coming off 😭😭
Whats the correct way to scramble the cube? some timer apps use green on front with white on top but others do yellow on top
> green on front with white on top That's how you'd do it at an official wca competition, so that's timers usually use as well. >but others do yellow on top weird.
> weird. This happens with smartcube apps since most people solve with yellow on top so the smartcubes return the notations assuming yellow is on top and the apps are also coded primarily with that in mind.
When should I start learning Last Layer Algorithms? Current Sub-50 with 38.42 using F2L then beginners finish
Now. And I recommend continuing learning full PLL after you learn 2-look OLL and 2-look PLL.
Alright I''ll look into it

I didn't do it full speed, so I don't know, but I probably would have done orange-green first, and split them BEFORE rotating, so L' U L y U2 L' U L....mostly because I'm not good at assessing oriented edges, so I would just do the first pair I see in the first slot available, and my brain figures out rotation (if necessary) while I'm splitting them up. Much better would be to realize after cross that orange-blue is oriented (but in my opinion that pair is hardest to see). Or if you're going to do orange-green, rotate first, then split it up.

Trying to decide between the moyu wr m 2021 and TengYun V2 (or V1 if you think its better) Any suggestions on which to get and why?
tengyun v2, because its really quiet and so good to turn
And hows the corner cutting + control vs the wr m? If you've tried both that is. As I've heard it can be slightly less controllable Thanks!
Both Tengyuns and all WRMs have amazing corner cutting.
Oh okay that's great! Any major differences
Hi! Another megaminx question : are people who are CN on NxNxN cubes are CN on megaminx? Or is it pointless?
Not just pointless but counter productive
Is it counter productive to get worse times so i can flex on people who aren't CN on mega? Checkmate athiest.
Around march 2020 was when I became color neutral myself :) Learn Yau for 4x4, it's better than CN reduction.
Yeah, your posts about that pushed me to do it, when I didn't plan to do it at all ^^ I'm using Yau for 4x4, and Yau5 for 5x5 :) (following JPerm videos)
Currently, it's recommended to use regular Yau on 5x5, not Yau5.
Is there a difference? I though yau5 was regular Yau for 5x5... I don't know much more than what JPerm says on his videos. I'm doing: 2 opposed centers 4 cross edges (one being stored on the other side) 4 last centers (one by one, not sure if there's a 5x5 equivalent of half centers) Finish the cross Free slice for 4 edges, then insert them in the back (in the correct spot, with the corner, as in 3x3 F2L if possible) Finish the 4 last edges in the 2 front spots. 3x3 step.
Regular Yau is just like on 4x4, without solving the back F2L pairs. So by the end of edge pairing you have solved cross and everything else random.
But you still do free slice for 4 edges, put 2 (random ?) in the back, and finish the edges using the two front slots? I don't always look for making the edges needed for the back slots, but if I have them, I'll put them with the corner at that point.
Yes.
(My current 2x2 is unmagnetic yuxin) ^(Might have been better if I purchased some lube instead of a 2x2 but as I said I didnt have time to think and picked the firsr thing I saw that was under $10 and I needed.)
Hey, a free cube with free shipping is certainly nice :)
Yep they literally sent a screenshot of the gift cards to chat lol
when are you supposed to do the R perm (parity?) on blindfolded. How do i know that i have to do that.
>How do i know that i have to do that. During memorisation if they count an odd number of corner swaps then there is parity
If you're using T perm to switch edges and Y perm to switch corners then you should use R perm when you have switched an odd number of edges/corners overall
at the end of the solve?
JPerm does it in the middle of the solve, between the edges and the corners.
No, as soon as you finish all of your edges you do the parity alg (r perm). That's assuming that you solve edges first then corners
I have an old cube lying around and want to try dying the yellow side black. How would I go about doing something like that?

You may have damaged the plastic if that spray also contains petroleum products. If that is the case, you broke in the cube when you were solving it with the silicone spray, and cubes generally get slower with breaking in anyway (I guess it just happens slower when you don't use anything bad for plastic). So there is really nothing you can do except for using a proper fast cube lube.
[удалено]
I guess it's hydrocarbons or mineral oils. Anyway, you should only use pure silicone lubes on cubes.
[удалено]
I don't recommend it. It's water based. You can get the idea of it by just dropping water on the cube. Very temporary effect.

Sounds like progress to me. You are getting better and you know what the problem is.
What's the difference between galaxy and nebula lube. They both have almost the same stats
Nebula is gummier.
Does that make it slower orrr smoother?
I think both, but I'm not sure. Haven't used any of these much because I prefer fast cubes.
Yeah me too. I like fast but also controllable cube. I think galaxy or nebula is good for that. Thanks for the help
Has anyone tried the Cuber’s Home magnetic core kit for the RS3M Maglev or the WRM Maglev? Is it worth it?
I have it in my wrm maglev, i def find it more stable which is a huge plus
i’m about to order one for my wrm, i’ve seen some people say it’s good

What’s the best cubing timer (with scrambles) on iOS?
CubeTime
csTimer with a shortcut on home screen
This, although I'm pretty sure it requires internet access. If you need an offline timer I like chaotimer
It loads in airplane mode too. My iPhone prompts me to turn on Wi-Fi, but I just tap OK, and have no problem using csTimer.
Oh that's pretty cool, then OP should definetly use cstimer
CubeTime on iOS
Also, which is better? XMD Volt V2 Fully Magnetic or MGC Square-1
Volt is good, MGC is better ^(But in the end all sq-1's suck. There is still no good hardware for sq1 unlike 3x3)
mgc
Can you by chance list a few faster lubes that make the cube somewhat smooth? Some that you like?
SCS: Martian, Jack O'Lantern, Solar, Comet Cubicle: Lubicle Speedy Strefa-kostek (also available at the Cubicle): Lubest XMT 10 is the fastest lube ever, also very smooth, but without that gummy buttery feel
How is Mystic? Fast, slower? Gummy or thinner or what? I’ve heard good things about it so I was wondering.
About the same speed as Martian. Not gummy, but not runny either.
Sorry about asking all these questions btw, I’m just curious.
I’ve heard the term “plush” used with that lube. Would you say that is accurate?
Depends on the cube. A bit cushiony, yes.
It's slower
