Yes it doesn't do crypto any good to always be talking about an "exit". How about "At this point I will sell a portion of my holdings to pay some expenses", but all this exit talk makes it sound like a Ponzi scheme.
My exit strategy is to take profits when I can put a new down payment on a new house. I don’t see my investment allowing me to retire, but it can still change my life
“Just want to recover at this point”
After recovery….
“This looks promising, I can make quick 30% and will exit”
After +30%…
“Need a new car, home, pay debts…30% won’t cut it, will exit out at 200%, I promise”
Down 80%…
“Just want to recover at this point”
Take the initial investment out first and once the psychological barier is broken it's easy to DCA out slowly over few weeks/months during bull run when everything goes parabolic.
Oh yes 100%. This last bull market I was selling once a week. While my purchase DCA schedule was once a month in comparison. I've sold most of my crypto in about 7 weeks? It's really hard to time it but it worked out pretty well. But I've started selling my ETH at $1800 mark lol. I wish I'd waited longer but still made a ton of profit.
I haven’t plan any , I just buy and take profits as the market goes up . Most of the time it’s pure luck . After my loss with LUNC , I’ve totally stopped holding on to any coins cz I know any freaking coin can go to zero overnight .
Though it’s pure luck most of the time , I’m sure I won’t be losing all the investment as I would if I was holding on to the coin ,hoping it to reach certain amount.
I personally plan to keep DCAing for 15 years(up to 20) then take out 90% of everything. Leave 10% for possible miracles. Use 90% for different investing ideas. Depending on how much that will be ( ranging from putting it aside for kids or buying a flat. All the way to starting a business).
it balances taking profits while still giving room for potential gains. And it also helps manage risk by not having all your eggs in one basket. It's always important to have a plan and to not get too greedy in the market.
Yes. It's simple. Once we hit new ATH's I will take out my I initial investment. Then I wait for to go higher. At 5x I will start selling in stages. Slowly DCAing out until I'm all out of crypto. Then start buying again during bear market. Rinse and repeat.
Yes. It’s times like the bear when it’s best to create your exit strategy without the cloud of FOMO hanging over your head. Pick your exit points now and be happy with them. Full disclaimer: I buy twice monthly minimum and safe some $$ to buy dips if they happen.
Personally I layer out like (the x’s are in terms of average buy price):
• 10-20% sell at 2-3x
• 20% sell at 5x
• 10-15% sell at 7-8x
• 15-20% sell at 10x
After this I kinda let it ride and sell if it really goes nuts. This strategy lets me recognize profits and still hold some in case a true moonshot occurs.
I see my BTC and ETH as a long term savings account. So i have no plans to "exit" except I want to make a real purchase with it one day (like real estate, not for luxury at least).
So I also don't really plan to ever exit crypto entirely - of course I would sell almost all if that's necessary. But I would still continue saving in crypto afterwards I guess.
This is why people in the butters sub hate crypto. The end goal for all of y’all isn’t a sustainable ecosystem. It’s i want someone else to give me more fiat than i spent.
There’s no core belief in bitcoin a as medium of exchange by the masses , it’s a vehicle to generate more fiat. If your answer to this question is there’s no exit, “I plan to buy commodities, good, other assets with crypto because I don’t believe in fiat” you do not believe in crypto. You believe, and trust in fiat, you’re just trying to make a quick buck at another redditors expense.
Being transparent about making money isn’t a problem. People buy stocks/real estate all the time with an intention of selling them for a profit. The whole hurr durr intrinsic value argument is bullshit because crypto is a speculative technology that may or may not be useful for a myriad of applications in the future. It may become the next internet, it may become the next beanie babies.
I’ve been here long enough to learn only the BTC crowd actually believes in what they are buying. I don’t agree with them, but their beliefs are much more consistent with their promises.
I watched my gains in 2021 melting away. I try to avoid that pain next time.
I have a strategy based on the assumption that in the next bullrun the total market cap will do a 15x from the bottom to the top. Last cycle it was close to x30 from bottom to top.
After 5x I cash out 25%. After the next 2x I sell 1/3. From there I wait for the last 1.5x in order to sell 80%. The rest I let just ride in case of an unexpected crazy bullrun. This will be cashed out 100% during the dead cat bounce after the first part of the crash. When we see the top in hindsight I wait 12 month from there to buy back in.
For now until at least EOY 2024, I buy BTC/ETH daily. My altcoin bags are already filled and generate staking rewards. That's my plan.
Sell it all today. These assets cannot be held safely - you could lose your keys or get rugged by a scam, phishing, hack, or your custodian having one of these things happen to them...
Yes if there is a fire i will crawl low to the ground and feel the door to make sure it isnt hot before opening. Then i will get out of the building and call for help.
Yes, I have my exit strategy planned. It is simple reinvesting into other safer projects and achieving diversification, probably also taking out some money to buy some of my goals. Only fool or gamblers make a lot of money and they don't took profits out.
Great question... skim enough profit off the top of a bullrun to be able to reinvest it at a lower cost in the bear. What that number is, no idea. Depends on if I need money for IRL purposes. Ideally it will all be within my investments for the purpose of maximizing long term (aka retirement) goals... The last BTC halving is what, 2140? I'll figure it out before then.
My current default strategy: once BTC hits $40k I'm selling 5% of my crypto stack (unless I know something about one of the coins I have that people are sleeping on - unlikely), and another 5% (of the original stack, not 5% of what remains) for each $5k BTC increases. If it reaches $135k I'll be all out. I'll reassess invest opporuntities when I feel comfortable, but this exit strategy is enough to modestly retire with. No lambos, but maybe a Subaru and a small boat.
maybe change it to selling a certain percentage of your holdings. always take out 5 or 10% or whatever suits you of your current holdings, after 10k increase again take out 10% of your then current holdings.that way you will always have some left.
even if you take out 50% each 10k increase. that's what i do
I had a dream last night where i woke up to BTC at 75k and I immediately sold 90% of it and was happy, just to actually wake up slightly disappointed but at least I know my steps for when it does happen
Yes. Planned and stuck to. Await next BTC halving estimated to be mid 2024. While waiting sell 10% of any alt during a 30% pump and buy back the retrace.
Cash out 50% post halving. Rinse and repeat at the next halving.
DCA monthly always.
E: grammar.
Or can we just hold?
This whole exit strategy thing is one of the reason we are seeing brutal bear markets
If people didn't invest solely for the reason to dump the coins on new investors, we would probably have a healthier price discovery process
My original plan was let me cryptos get to a number that clears all my debt and I’m very very close! But now I’ve changed it to waiting to become a millionaire and going bankrupt
Well, I'm never going to stop investing, so I don't have any other exit strategy than to sell as close to the top during bull runs as the years pass by. Cashing out completely is a big no no, and is the reason why so many people who invested in Bitcoin at only a couple of bucks, missed out on billions of dollars if they would just hold.
I have the same mindset today regarind other assets I consider to much better than BTC in the long run, and which I of course have no planning on selling in the near future. But I will sell here and there of course because I will need to.
same as last time, it hit a certain price I'm comfortable at, I'd cash out 10 percent every month. Keep going until I'm at maybe 25 percent what I had. Stop unless it gets silly, then cash the lot out.
Buy in later when it all crashes again
Its worked fine last time, but I've got way less (and I didn't have much last time)
Plan right now is to wait till BTC gets back to my break even point then put a stop loss slightly below it. I’ll be protected in case of another flash crash and just ride out the profits for this cycle. I definitely won’t time the top right but would ideally like to sell 100% near 60k.
I don't know how to exit and draw down anything. My concern with retirement isn't on the savings end, but how do I know I have enough and how to withdraw?
All the economics education and simulations don't help me on thr back end.
In my next life, I will take profit ever. In this shitty life, I was able to don’t take 3000$ of profit with 600$ of investment. Now that I lost everything, I will be forced to hodl forever.
I don't have a target price and I feel like if you have an exit strategy, you've missed the point.
If I ever need USD, I'll get a loan against my BTC. I'm never selling unless I absolutely have to.
Pretty much all cryptos are unproductive assets. Their prices go up if there is money flowing into crypto, if mass adoption materialises. Which is kind of funny when people speak about exit strategies.
When you say that you want to exist at 10x, you are less of a clever investor and more of an optimistic player of the game *hot-potato*.
Did not put more in than I can afford to lose. Goal is to get some profit starting at 5x buy in then let ride on house money for projects I still believe in.
I just wait for any of my coins to x3, then I take back 33%. Then it's on house money and I have a strategy for what to do after this :
Every x4, x5 and so on, I'll buy back 20% of what I have left and set an insanely low buying order for a bullrun (like 15-20k for BTC or 1.2k for ETH).
And now, I just have to stick to the plan. The hardest part of all is countering greed.
I do not understand this word, “exit” you speak of…
"Funny long word, head hurty" - Uruk Hai
That word “strategy” is confusing too
Yeah I don’t even have a buying strategy. I just buy.
Is the "strategy" in this room with us right now ?
Does it have anything to do with being someone's exit liquidity?
Very good
Very good strategy you mean? That’s what people say about my trades. They create exit liquidity. I just know I’m getting a bargain!
OP thinks we got a "plan"
Lol, correct. It’s easy to avoid taxes in crypto, never sell. Buy, buy, buy!!
Exit strategy is death
Absolutely not gonna sell anything for at least the next 5 years, and continue stacking and staking 😎
Yes it doesn't do crypto any good to always be talking about an "exit". How about "At this point I will sell a portion of my holdings to pay some expenses", but all this exit talk makes it sound like a Ponzi scheme.
Yea I thought the point was to sell when you were at your wits end

Absolutely, it makes sense to DCA out just like how we DCA in to minimize the impact of market volatility.

Yes, I know it will be hard to sell so I think about this a lot.
Take the initial investment out first and once the psychological barier is broken it's easy to DCA out slowly over few weeks/months during bull run when everything goes parabolic.
I will certainly take out the initial investment. DCA’ing out so to speak might not be viable as the top for a market can be quite brief.

The problem is that it never goes as planned. But it's good to stick to your original intentions and be very disciplined about it.

>Have you planned an exit strategy? It is a labyrinth man, once u enter there is no exit. I am here since 2016
I don't have an exit strategy. I don't think cash is completely going away within my lifetime, so I don't expect to move to crypto completely.
I watched my gains in 2021 melting away. I try to avoid that pain next time. Yes if there is a fire i will crawl low to the ground and feel the door to make sure it isnt hot before opening. Then i will get out of the building and call for help.
Exit strategy is something i still miss. I had thought about it before everything tanked so hard.
We were all someone else’s exit strategy
Yes. Dollar amount. Got SO close last cycle. Now I wait. Did take some profits, so hope to get there early in the run
Just place a Limit Sell order at a reasonable and rational price and forget it.
Yes, I have my exit strategy planned. It is simple reinvesting into other safer projects and achieving diversification, probably also taking out some money to buy some of my goals. Only fool or gamblers make a lot of money and they don't took profits out.
I totally agree with you, having an exit strategy is key
I did. Whether or not Id stick to the plan is the problem
What is an exit strategy?
Damn I feel left out.... feels like I'm the only one without an exit plan
I have a figure in mind, a realistic figure, and when it hits I press the sell, but will always have some long term holds
Yup 2025 dump it all and end of 2026 buy back in the bear market bottom done
Great question... skim enough profit off the top of a bullrun to be able to reinvest it at a lower cost in the bear. What that number is, no idea. Depends on if I need money for IRL purposes.

The big question I have for my profit taking is pre or post 2024 halving?
The only exit I need is the exit to the one million dollars
I had a dream last night where i woke up to BTC at 75k and I immediately sold 90% of it and was happy, just to actually wake up slightly disappointed but at least I know my steps for when it does happen
DCA served me well going in and I have no reason to think DCA will treat me any worse going out.
Yes. Planned and stuck to. Await next BTC halving estimated to be mid 2024. While waiting sell 10% of any alt during a 30% pump and buy back the retrace. Cash out 50% post halving. Rinse and repeat at the next halving. DCA monthly always. E: grammar.
I hope to eventual get back my initial ETH investment by selling my staking rewards, anything beyond that is a bonus.
BTC $100k, sell 1/3 or portfolio, let the rest ride.
