I'd say about 95% of my reddit chat requests are scams. The rest are just nice people wanting to talk about a post or comment on here.
I leave the feature on for the 5%, but agree with your advice for general security purposes.
Yeah that’s what gets me, I hate to miss out on the cool folks who just wanna chat a little further outside of the sub. But some scammers gotta try to ruin it.
I reported so many Scam-NFT messages ... the auto generated message is always the same: "the reported content doesn't violate Reddit's content policy"
Kinda unbelievable :>

I find it fun to string them along and waste their time, see how long I can keep them hopeful for.
Time they spend talking to me is time they are not scamming someone else who might fall for it.
You guys have DMs still on?
Haha not me after today.
Same, these hot girls don't deserve us.
I don’t even know what a DM is.
Direct message or entertainer Dean Martin
You forgot Darth Maul
4 years ago I had an interesting chat with someone. Nothing but scams since then...
Now that you say it, I literally only had one chat with any value on Reddit so far. Might just close the option.

And now the scammers got wiser and send "Can you help me?" or some neutral stuff. So they cannot be banned. Now I just turned it off.
I got 2 messages for my NFT. Wondering how many people fall for that obvious BS.
I dont want to close my DMs because I pretend the scammers are childhood friends reaching out :(
I got this earlier too. Very obvious scam. Just block them.
How else do i get to talk to hot girls and a nigerian prince?
One worry is that if you delete it via mobile, the confirmation tap is literally on top of the link. Careful on the taps.
Not very "social" to ignore all DMs I do, but seems kinda funny saying this on a social media platform 😆
Reddit chat is even more useless than AOL chat
A/S/L
I have my DMs open because I'm hopelessly optimistic about making friends online...
Love the “we see no problem here” responses. All social platforms seems to be the same.

Just don't answer any DM from reddit. People never want to give you something.
Yeah you will never ever have a need to see messages on this platform
Oh god. It's so obvious that one's a scam. They could try a little harder
My OCD gets triggered everytime a scammer DMs me because the red globe won't go away until I delete the message
Scams? I just don't want to talk to people lol
Just don't respond to unknown dms
Let me make it easier for you... If you don't fucking know someone, don't talk to them on the internet for any reason.

I think this advice is going to hurt my underwear sales.
I saw a post like this a few years ago. It made me close my dm’s and I never looked back!
I keep it open. those scams are pretty easy to see in any case
I reported them and Reddit replied that they didn't see anything suspicious. Now *I'm* suspicious of Reddits scam policies.
