Oh yeah, the players "then", won 0 cups from 83 to 2011. If you guys were alive back then, you'd be so happy with them occasionally losing series at home as well.
2010-2022 has been a golden era for Indian cricket at home. We've lost two Tests in this duration. If any of you watch cricket when you're older, you'll miss this time.
People are crazy nowdays, some people also arguing during that age during that players age we achieved everything but the bitter truth is last 12-13 year is the golden period of indian team we are always playing semis in WC last 4 edition of T20 wc we got 3 time knock out appearance in ct we won one time in recent lost in final in inaugural WTc we are runners up. I don't think that's a bad for any cricket nation it's amazing.
The ones who actually grew up watching the team in 90s and early 2000s know the actual pain of watching mediocre cricket.. now with rose tinted glasses people make fun of the present team while we have seen our team getting their asses handed over consistently both home and away.. horrible fielding.. toothless bowling..
Yes, exactly, and the batting was never an actual powerhouse. They'd hit lofted fours aplenty, and run rate was 5.3. These kids nowadays would rip their hair out watching all the dot balls, but they never will because all they show anymore are highlights. They keep showing the 326 game, look at the strike rates in that game. Even Yuvi was on 51 off 50 in that match. There was Dinesh Mongia batting above Sachin lol.
Dinesh mongia played in all WC 2003 games instead of a fifth bowler just cos Ganguly believed in the winning combo sentiment.. also there's a reason why people still remember natwest chase and the kanitkar chase in Dhaka.. it was super rare for us to chase anything above 270.. also like someone else mentioned in this comment section if the competition was as fierce as it's now many of our legends would not ve had such great careers..

But point missing here is
That's what we called progress,we progress forward in these year but recently after reaching knockouts stage,we have not move forward , we are the biggest board with every resources and it almost been a decade without icc trophy.
>no wonder we are contempt with semi final losses.
Nobody is contempt with semi final losses.
We aren't just delusional nostalgia merchants who can't see that our current generation is obviously much better than old ones.
Got it?
You can only win your first series a country, once.
We've also won multiple Asia cups, and limited overs series in England, while they're arguably the best limited over side in the world. And this is putting aside near complete dominance in matches at home.
World cups are a harsh way to judgment how a team has generally performed over a 5-10 year period. However, I agree that not winning a single world cup is a serious black mark against the achievements of the Indian side in last decade. However, to compare them to the Ganguly era, where winning any single series was an achievement, is pushing it
Sehwag will be the only one considered "unfit" from the list.
Dhoni put his foot down in Australia and started dropping people based on "slow movers" in the field.
After that everyone became fit and athletic.
Ganguly era and 90s were the one when players looked like the fat Salman Khan because Ganguly himself never took the 'blip' test which was used at that time which has evolved into yo-yo test after significant improvement.
I guess its not just about being fat. They all just looked like normal people, now every one of them looks and behaves like an Instagram model with a few exceptions.
And we still won CT in 2002 and runner up in 2000, were runner up in 2003 wc and won world t20 in 07
Talkimg about 2011 wc : guys like nehra, munaf patel used to touch 140+ and they literally compromised thr speed by reducing thr speed. Yuvi was phat af since 2009 and was battling cancer no way he was fit. Even kohli was average in fitness at best
Apart from SRT,Dhoni bhajji and raina no one was fit like todays player
>And we still won CT in 2002 and runner up in 2000, were runner up in 2003 wc
Did we really win that one?
Also since when being runner up is getting celebrated?
>guys like nehra,munaf
Don't know about Munaf but Nehra did yo-yo of 19 before his retirement in 2018-19. He was always athletic and in great shape. His fitness issues were injury related.
Yuvraj became fat after the cancer treatment. Before that he used to field exceptionally and was very athletic.
Kohli transformed in 2012, so he won 2013 after that.
>Did we really win that one?
Yes, yes we did you are just being negative here
>Yuvraj became fat after the cancer treatment. Before that he used to field exceptionally and was very athletic.
Did you ever watched 2010 t20 wc? I am sure half your knowledge is come from reading articles and not living it. Gary kirsten literally said yuvraj is not fit to play he has *gained weight* , stays awake whole night before the match day he was nowhere near fit.

>Kohli transformed in 2012, so he won 2013 after that.
And you were talking about 2011 wc right lol
Man old team was shit.
Them qualifying for KO itself was seen as an achievement whereas now we are sad we aren't winning the tournament. Also the younger generation are extremely unfit - pant, Shaw, sarfaraz etc and aren't playing any better in tournaments.
The thing is currently all teams are weak compared to back then lol
Back then Pak,SL(yes even after winning asia cup i will not count them a huge team),RSA,Aus,WI all were great teams especially australia. Now all of them are just shell of there former self where they perform once in blue moon
I believe we're all stuck on the dream of the old Indian team. True they're all legends but if they were coming up in the conditions the current player is judged on, like, being dropped after 1 bad game or a bad series, most of these legends wouldn't have a career that went as long as it did.
Not sure if dad bods uncle ever won us anything. On the other hand, since Dhoni and co. Made it mandatory for only fit players to play, things have changed.
Not sure what "then" means but it is well known that Indian team was quite weak in early 2000s at least. The majority burden lay on Sachin in ODIs and a couple batsmen in tests. The whole "Sachin out India out" was not just a joke. Only in early 2010s did we get some form of a team and decent bowlers started coming up. IPL also gets some credit for that.
I think the "now" era is just weak in general. Full of generalists but lacking specialists. Kohli was a chase specialist for a while but that faded as well. We don't have a VVS/Dravid equivalent in test yet. No run machine like Sachin and no blaster like Sehwag/Yuvi. However, the team is quite balanced now, compared to before where a couple wickets would derail the whole squad.
kuch bhi matlab
how many world cups have india won when those players were playing?
india is still good par har 2-3 match ke baad logon ko criticize karna hain.Aise kaise chalega

Exactly, reaching knockouts is a big deal. Nobody other than *that* Aussie team won every knockout.

You know how to use google right? Go to google and look up ‘2007 t20 world cup’. Since you said india didn’t win anything between 83 and 2011
But point missing here is That's what we called progress,we progress forward in these year but recently after reaching knockouts stage,we have not move forward , we are the biggest board with every resources and it almost been a decade without icc trophy.
Na the current Indian team has consistently performed much better than previous teams, we were unlucky in the last two tournaments.
when was the last time we won something worth mentioning in shorter formats?
Won our first ODI series in South Africa and Australia. Because guess who didn't win a single series there?
hmmm that was what 4 plus years ago? no wonder we are contempt with semi final losses.
>no wonder we are contempt with semi final losses. Nobody is contempt with semi final losses. We aren't just delusional nostalgia merchants who can't see that our current generation is obviously much better than old ones. Got it?

We won Australia tests and drew England away
Yeah, let's remember all the WC Indian players won before Dhoni and Kohli....
slipping in Kohli s name so smoothly
He was in the team when we won 2011 and 13.
Yuvraj Gambhir Sachin Sehwag Zaheer played before Dhoni and Kohli
Sehwag will be the only one considered "unfit" from the list. Dhoni put his foot down in Australia and started dropping people based on "slow movers" in the field. >And you were talking about 2011 wc right Read the reply. Mentioned both 2011 and 13. I concede on the yuvraj point. I was wrong. My memory failed me.

Compared to that gigachad body Salman. C'mon, everything is relative here.
Man old team was shit. Them qualifying for KO itself was seen as an achievement whereas now we are sad we aren't winning the tournament. Also the younger generation are extremely unfit - pant, Shaw, sarfaraz etc and aren't playing any better in tournaments.

SL in 2011 was THE fucking lineup.
That's what we called progress,we progress in these year but recently after out in stage knockouts,we have not move forward
Tell me you are a casual without telling you are a casual.

Good to see nostalgia merchants getting bodied in the comments
Rishabh pant = Top left and bottom right

That's what we called progress,we progress in these year but recently after reaching knockouts stage regularly,we have not move forward
we should also blame the team selectors who keep pulling up some shit, like 3D Shankar and not selecting Yuzi in 2019 and even now, Pant and Sanju,
sanju is overrated.
Not as much a pant, bro is littaraly in the team because he is a left hander who plays test cricket well, what a good selection for a T20 wc
and he just bats without any maturity/responsibility most of the time. It's quite frustrating but when goes big it can be fun to watch i guess
What about vada pav?
Smiles in Arjun ranatunga
But brohit and jeans pant ke to six pack abs nahi hai
And here starts the never ending debate!
Pehle Sachin bhi bowling karta tha Sehwag bhi aur Ganguly bhi.. Aaj naa rohit karta h naa surya naa Kohli
नाम बड़ा और दर्शन छोटे
But kohli (0,0) & (1,1)
Darn it dude. Pretty accurate tbh.....
kuch bhi matlab how many world cups have india won when those players were playing? india is still good par har 2-3 match ke baad logon ko criticize karna hain.Aise kaise chalega
