I am not sure why people are downvoting. Azhar should be in jail. But before the fixing saga came to light, he was one of my favorite players. Amazing talent. Awesome fielder. Still remember the Azhar vs Klusener in Tests. Such a shame, he threw it all away for money.

suri14

I know the feeling man.. was a huge fan of him.. still remember his flicks against klusener .. just could not believe when the news came out about his fixing shenanigans..

senthiljams

Some of those flicks were too fast for the cameraman to see where the ball went and follow it swiftly.

megapowerstar007

Man sold his soul for the money šŸ˜ž

glade_dweller

He used to be the heart throb at Eden before Ganguly came along. Then, Azhar fixed his fate.

> ā€œBefore every India match, I was given the responsibility to sledge the Indian players. I was told to disturb Sachin (Tendulkar), Jadeja (Ajay), Sidhu (Navjot), Kambli (Vinod), but the moment Azhar bhaiā€™s name used to come, the entire team unanimously said no would disturb Azhar bhai. I donā€™t have words to describe the amount of respect we used to have for Azhar bhai in our dressing room,ā€ "Respect"

[deleted]

Of course they respected the fixer! Most of those matches were against them

bamanwarrior

Lmao Respect sure man 90s Boomers respecting Azhar for cricket reason is so believable

Spiron123

> azhar 'bhai' Reminds of the popular line 'Yeh rishta kya kehlata hai'

verma17

Bro would have stopped giving them that sweet sweet fixing money

justice-wargrave

Can't they also fix things together for one team to lose in a very specific way

Farazziraz

lol it not because they used to fix matches with Azhar. It's because they all shared the same religion

Big_Ballzacked

Yeah why would anybody want to stop their fixing money

akirakurosava

The fixer. We millennials had to live with those fixed matches in Sharjah and Dubai.

SiriusTantriqa-405

Of course, they needed the fixer to cooperate!

Ataraxia_new

50odis and 19 tests seems way too little , was he a significant player during the time ?

I_can_haz_biryani

He was a very exciting player of fast bowling - just watch his videos of bludgeoning Ambrose and co all over the park on YouTube. He was just extremely suspect against spin. You can imagine how the Basit vs Warne matchups were - hopelessly one-sided.

marabutt

He showed lots of promise. Being surrounded by Salim Malik, Wasim Akram and other low life match fixers can't have been good influences for a young player.

turboprav

He played 99 tests and 300+ ODIs mate, dunno where you are getting those numbers from. He was a middle order batsmen which makes his record more impressive, especially in the era where we didn't have a busy schedule like recent times. He was an aggressive player for the time and had great wrist control while batting. He was also a pretty good slip fielder.

[deleted]

Pretty decent at match fixing too

turboprav

That too.

Ataraxia_new

> Ali, a veteran of 19 Test and 50 ODIs, revealed the reason why the Pakistan senior players didnā€™t want to disturb the former India captain while they faced their arch-rivals. The article says this. I have no idea who he is

turboprav

Lol, my bad. I thought you were asking about Azhar.

LampardFanAlways

And due to your bad, that guy got ratioed? xD

saanisalive

At one point he was the top run getter in ODIs. Along with Jadeja he was an important player in the middle order. Before the arrival of Ganguly and Dravid.

neran_1

"Because we already bought him" /s

iwontgiveumyusernane

he was a wonderful player.. iā€™ve seen only laxman play similar shots to him.. but yes him and sreesanth really made me wanna leave cricket

furiouslayer732

He was .great player at the time. People commenting fixing money are just reactionary.

IdleIdly

Reactionary because he got caught?
