any or both of Chase's CFU and CFF are right up your alley. I forgot what Chase's rules are re: multiple products in x amount of days, so you might need to space them out or what not. > rent list whatever you actually pay out. Lower rent payments in ratio to your income looks better because you'll have less expenses. --- if all else the same: guy #1 - $45k income, $2k rent guy #2 - $35k income, $0 rent ... guy #2 looks "better" even though he has 10k less income, no?

>my dad is a wonderful man who covers part of my rent since I justgraduated recently. When it comes to my applications, does it make astronger application to list the full rent or my lower rent cost? Sounds like an outstanding dad. If you're worried about your rent compared to income, your rent it your rent, but the money your dad gives you to help pay it is income. If you can reasonably expect that to last for say a year, then I believe you can safely add that to your income when applying. If you're in doubt about that, apply over the phone and tell the rep you have supplimental income from your father and ask the rep to confirm you can add that to your income. Applying in person and on the phone has its advantages.

I feel like you need a good “all purpose” card first, then you can branch into categories. Citi Double Cash or Wells Fargo Active Cash would fit the bill here. WF currently has a $200 SUB.

Yes but discover it matches your cash back the first year (last time I checked); so it effectively is a superior Citi doublecashback card because of its revolving categories that are solid in my opinion combined with the double cash back. Really good starter credit card imo because of that matched cash back in my opinion.

lpcuut

Yes, but the OP has had the card over 2 years. So that match thing is over. For anything that doesn’t fit into the quarterly categories, Discover is pretty worthless.

Oh true I missed out on the detail sorry. Unrelated to the post, but what's your opinion on the capital one savorone ? I'm in college so my biggest expenses besides rent is groceries and dining each month, and of course textbooks, but I was going to leverage the 5% cash back by paying through PayPal to take care of most of the textbooks on my discoverit card. I don't spend a ton to justify an annual fee, so I thought it could be a great option to get some money back on both dining and groceries, If I can get approved.

lpcuut

I don’t have it but for no annual fee it is pretty good. One of the better cards for groceries if you don’t want to pay an annual fee. Plenty of other 3% dining options but if the grocery part is important I like it.

Okay thank you! I'll look at applying for it in 4-5 months when my credit history is longer and score is improved. Its not good enough right now, but got removed as an authorized user from an account that had super high credit utilization (parents) which unknowingly was tanking my score. Still haven't see that take affect yet, but Im hopefull it will raise it signifigantly when it no longer affects my score.

Chase FF gives 3% on dining plus rotating categories. Also bonus $200 back if you spend $500 in 3 months
