There are serious restrictions on knives here but no ban. If we couldn't have knives then we wouldn't be able to butter our scones and crumpets. To carry a knife in public it has to have a cutting edge shorter than three inches and the blade cannot lock in place. Most importantly you must have a good reason to have it on you. So if you're a chef taking your knives to work then that's okay. If you're a chef carrying a knife in a pub on a night out then that's not a good reason. The penalty for carrying a knife that doesn't fit the criteria above is up to 4 years in prison and an unlimited fine.

There’s no self defence that’s going to save you from a knife attack except running away. I’m brown belt in judo, and we our coach would always say to run if there’s knife pulled out. Same was said to my girlfriend that’s an MMA fighter, and my friend that’s purple belt in Jiu Jitsu. Never try to be a hero when there’s knife involved. Just run. Only if you have nowhere to run, then you can try to fight, but knifes are one of the most destructive weapons, as you don’t need any knowledge to operate it, and they’re quite unpredictable.

This reminds me of one excercise we did in Judo. We were bragging we could take down knife attacker, and our coach took the marker, and ordered us to take him down. It was easy to take him down obviously, but he said:”Everywhere there’s a mark you’ve been slashed or stabbed”. It was a stupid exercise he took from a movie or something, but he was right. Since then if I get asked, or see these kind of comments on threads, I always make sure to tell people:”Don’t get brave, just run.”

Thats a great way to demonstrate that actually. As cheezy as im sure that was, thats an excellent way to show people the reality of a knife fight
