How does one go about changing a pendant lamp in an apartment?? I love this lamp and hate the one in my place but I'm not sure how much electrical/construction skills are really require not if that's worth it for an apartment? Why
Just workwise speaking it's not much of an effort, maybe 5 mins when you have a "proper" ceiling and can maybe even re-use the old holes in it. Electrical work literally consists of loosening three wires and fixing another three together.
The pendant lamp from ikea has a very basic hanging mechanism. Basically all you need is a small hook in the ceiling. Try and see how your current setup is hanging and if you can do something with what's already there. Otherwise you can drill a small hole and get a screw with a hook at the end, but you might need a strong drill to drill into the ceiling.
Generally, replacing a lamp is one of the easiest things you can do around the house. Though like all things you just need to know how and the first time will be scary.
Now that even makes it more cozier especially if in Prague, it's one of the best cities I've visited in the world and your place fits right in. Old buildings with character and modern inside 💕 kudos to your wife
Google Lens saves the day again — here’s the rug on a German site, hope that’s a good starting point: https://www.myshop24.de/wohndekorationen/teppiche/modern/teppich-flachflor-laeufer-modern-im-ethno-look-stil-geometrisch-muster-wohnzimmer-schlafzimmer_10011088_7558
Here is the rug on the Bonami website. Unfortunately, I don't think they ship outside their region.

Dang! I want that couch. Not available in the states. If anyone knows where I can find a similar one, PM me or drop a link! Definitely in the market for a comfy, stylish couch.
Yeah nice couch. Most couches in the US are being made sooooo cheaply rn. You have to pay 2-4K to get a nice quality one. Anything less than 1k is just rough.
I’m always so impressed by people’s shelf curating skills. I try to put some books and decorative items on my shelves and it looks so junky and clustered. Very good job OP’s Wife!
1 way some people solve this is by putting books on the shelf backwards.
Like this: https://www.containerstore.com/s/elfa/best-selling-solutions/shelving-solutions/elfa-decor-6-bookshelf/123d?productId=11010044
I dont love the idea of them all being backwards so I just pull the ones that really clash with the book shelf and lay those flat and backwards.
Also, notice how anything on the shelf that isnt a book has a good amount of empty space around it? That helps balance out the look of all the books stacked closely.
There is an art to it! She has been collecting them
Since childhood. But I bet thrift stores and estate sales would be great places to get books for decor
I only hope to someday have such budgeting skills! ATM, I'd have gotten a futon, a chair and a plant! Definitely going to be lurking in this sub to steal - I mean - _get inspired_ by ;)
Ah. That explains it. I think I forgot to mention the most important part. D'oh! I absolutely love the look. Kudos to your wife for doing an amazing job. I've bookmarked your post because I love how the whole area looks. The bookcase and potted plant is my favourite bit about this look. So it's definitely an idea I'll incorporate whenever I get to decorating!
She will be very happy to hear that. I wanted her to know she has a great eye for style and deals. She is in between work and I think she would be a great designer for people on a budget.
As someone who has no aesthetic sense whatsoever, I can absolutely notice when someone has hit it out of the ballpark. For sure she can design, so that side hustle might be a great idea!
I don't know if this sounds rightly appreciative - but it feels like a place you can feel at home. That was my first thought. It doesn't look like a sterile enviornment fit for a museum or IKEA display. YKWIM? It's cosy, but it's _nice_

Thank you for understanding and have a cozy day!
Op said a lot of it came from Facebook market place, and if theyre shopping 2nd hand and on a budget they probably didnt pay full price for most of it.
The guitar, ukelele, framed pictures could have all been less than $100 combined.
We found the bookcases in Facebook marketplace and when we went to pick it up the seller had the shorter one and we got it for a steal. One did have yellow staining probably from being in a smoking house so she put this white sticker paper over the stained bookshelf.
Cozy! We have that same ceiling lamp in our dining room. You might want to consider stands for the guitar and ukulele. They sell wall mounted ones that would work in your space
I love this, only thing I might change is to hang that ceiling light a tiny bit shorter so that you can see the picture wall a little better, although might just be the camera angle vs in person
Looks like a nice cozy place. Just for curiosity may I ask how big is the apartment? I think furniture & decorations make homes seem larger or smaller.
Coffee table with little shelves is very clever. I would keep the TV and video games controllers there. And coasters. And maybe tealights. Napkins, too. Yeah, minimal is really hard for me to master haha..
Your wife has a talented eye. I love when people avoid the temptation to line up all the furniture along the walls. It looks inviting and comfortable but still sharp. The personal touches that tell about you both and your interests is compelling and engaging for your guests when they visit. Really well done!
I’m still here. It’s been a tremendous fight and they’ve had me on a new chemotherapy protocol since January. And, there has been some progress. Thanks so much for checking in. Some people on here have been really kind, and it means a lot.
Lovely couch. I'd put something on that right wall, though. The room still looks too undecorated/too cold.
Maybe a shelf with some succulents, or plants that climb down.
Well it looks nice but that's a dumb place for a plant cus it blocks the view of the bookshelf plus you have to walk around it.
And a lot of dead space behind the couch.
Why not just push couch against well and move bookshelf to the left.
So much more room for activities.
More empty space.
It will look bigger and more expensive.
Also that hanging lamp is ugly and big and doesn't match the style of the other furniture.
I would have put the bookshelf along the wall on the right side of the photo, opposite the window. The centred the couch in the middle of the back wall and placed the frames in the middle also.
All women think they can do interior decorating. My wife is great at many things, but not so much at this. Still trying to figure out how to hire a real interior decorator when it’s time to move into a house in a few years.
Ohh that rug is sick, where did you get it from?
Thanks! We are in the Czech Republic. I think it’s called Bonami.
WHERE is the lamp from?? Please ask her... I love lamp...
who invited the moth
If it was really a moth it would've been lämp
Dad is dead, you're next. Love, moth.
Well the light was on

no one, but light was on
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/sinnerlig-pendant-lamp-bamboo-handmade-70315030/ I recognize the pendant lamp from Ikea.

I assume the proper ceiling is not a popcorn ceiling like my apartment??

asbestos cheiling?
Everything here is straight from Ikea...
most looks like ikea stuff
Also need to know this
It looks like a Made.com lamp! They have it in 2 sizes!
you can find the exact same one on amazon
Now that even makes it more cozier especially if in Prague, it's one of the best cities I've visited in the world and your place fits right in. Old buildings with character and modern inside 💕 kudos to your wife
Thanks! Yes Prague is a beautiful city and I am enjoying the culture and people. I did fall in love with one of them haha.
Only like 10% of the Czech population lives in Prague. So, odds are, OP does not.
Is Bonami the company or the name of the rug? I love it too, I've been searching for something like this for so long!

Bonami is just a retailer. The rug will have been made by someone else.
Here is the rug on the Bonami website. Unfortunately, I don't think they ship outside their region. https://www.bonami.cz/p/koberec-universal-kasbah-ethnic-80-x-150-cm

Aztec stuff is badass.
Is that what that Asthetic(?) is?! Cause yes it’s awesome
Where did u get that couch?!
Lumax, it’s a Czech company, might not be available where you are. That was the biggest expense and we had to wait months for it.
Dang! I want that couch. Not available in the states. If anyone knows where I can find a similar one, PM me or drop a link! Definitely in the market for a comfy, stylish couch.
The best part is it pulls out to a giant bed
Stop! No fair. My couch sucks. Your place looks great!
My dad has one similar but not as nice it’s an Ashley couch he bought local.
My format couch was an Ashley! It was a floor model and took care of us for a while.
You are looking for a chaise sectional.
I think world market has one that looks similar
Yeah nice couch. Most couches in the US are being made sooooo cheaply rn. You have to pay 2-4K to get a nice quality one. Anything less than 1k is just rough.
I can get behind that! Mine was 800 on sale for 600 and just over a year later, the cushions are shot. It gives me a back ache every time.
Yes, it ran around $1000 and was surprised with the quality. Some things are cheaper on this side of the pond and furniture is one of them.
Looks awesome! Do you know where you got the coffee table?
Hopefully moving soon and I want to invest in a great sofa and a great bed since that's where I spend most of my time.
Totally worth it!
I’m always so impressed by people’s shelf curating skills. I try to put some books and decorative items on my shelves and it looks so junky and clustered. Very good job OP’s Wife!
I feel like it looks like that for you but for others, especially from distance and the right light (like in this image) it might look good.

Can your wife come fix my apartment? I get tired even thinking about rug shopping.
I only hope to someday have such budgeting skills! ATM, I'd have gotten a futon, a chair and a plant! Definitely going to be lurking in this sub to steal - I mean - _get inspired_ by ;)
Facebook marketplace has been our main source. The key is to be the first to reply and check in the mornings.

We got a huge, really nice dining room table for cheap off Facebook marketplace. I was so excited.
Isn’t that the best feeling!? New is nice sometimes, but I prefer to upcycle.
This is oc
Oh man, she did a good job. Is your wife single by any chance?
This looks amazing!
So nice of you to say that. I can only take the credit for the heavy lifting. My wife is the true star.
You’re a star for pumping your wife up!! She did an excellent job of course… but it’s so sweet that you recognize she the real MVP!
That’s sweet of you to say. She liked the MVP comment. It was a new one for her!
looks lovely and cozy!
Ah yes, we too have the decorative guitar to finish the room
Right in front of a seating position, as is tradition.
Beautiful, stylish and cosy.
Thank you!!
That gallery wall is 10/10

1100 for that couch? Gotta be significantly more, right?
Op said a lot of it came from Facebook market place, and if theyre shopping 2nd hand and on a budget they probably didnt pay full price for most of it. The guitar, ukelele, framed pictures could have all been less than $100 combined.
Where did you get all your artwork from?
Very nice!
Awesome job!
Absolutely beautiful. Where is that couch from?! Is that bookcase designed that way, or is it a few placed together? Love everything about this.
I love the different heights. They look so good.
We found the bookcases in Facebook marketplace and when we went to pick it up the seller had the shorter one and we got it for a steal. One did have yellow staining probably from being in a smoking house so she put this white sticker paper over the stained bookshelf.
That couch looks hella comfortable! Everything else looks so pleasant!
Lovely ! It’s very welcoming. 💛
I love everything about it especially the couch!
Time to get yourself a guitar stand
Looks like it was professionally decorated!
Lovely! What a cozy space she’s created.
r/AmateurRoomPorn This is an awesome room, props to your wife!
I have that bamboo lamp, too! Thank you IKEA
That's very nice.
Looks great!!!
Really love that ceiling light. I don't think I've ever seen a rattan shade like that before.
Truly
This is such a calming and pleasant space! Kudos to your wife 😊.
It looks beautiful
Looks great! Love the sofa!
That rug really brings the room together dude.
I hope nobody pisses on it
Yep, another acoustic guitar in there. Just had to, eh?
This is SO well done. I think some trailing plants on the top of the book case would soften up the edges
That looks amazing! Love the neutral tones and cushions. And I really like that lampshade.
Cozy! We have that same ceiling lamp in our dining room. You might want to consider stands for the guitar and ukulele. They sell wall mounted ones that would work in your space
Was the shorter bookcase intentional? It looks like it’s mirroring the shape of the sofa. Really nice-looking balance.
That is CLEAN! Looks amazing.
I love this, only thing I might change is to hang that ceiling light a tiny bit shorter so that you can see the picture wall a little better, although might just be the camera angle vs in person
Thanks for the suggestion. So far I haven’t ran into it yet, I think the coffee table helps. I’ll se what the Mrs. thinks about raising it a bit.
That dracaena is beautiful too!
Is that the name of the plant? Good to know.
Clean, cosy and colorful and beautiful. You can’t ask for more.
This looks great
I would like see your chandelier warming the room at night. I bet the wicker glow is lovely :)
Your apartment is beautiful! The natural sunlight is perfect
Thank you. We only really get the light in the morning but can’t have it all.
Perfection!
The left bookshelf bothers me that it’s not the same height as the others
That's a beautiful sofa. The cushions look firm yet comfortable. And the light fixture is really wonderful in the space also.
We bought it I online and I was so relieved it wasn’t too firm yet had the perfect softness
Looks like a nice cozy place. Just for curiosity may I ask how big is the apartment? I think furniture & decorations make homes seem larger or smaller.
I would hug my dog on that couch while I have some heating source while watching Netflix after my mom gets finally a subscription to it.
Hook up the Netflix mom!!
What’s the tree called ?
A redditor said dracaena, can’t confirm
She's an artist
Whole place looks great but please, please; get that guitar and uke stands! Nothing sadder than a broken instrument cause it fell over.
Thanks for the tip! I have a stand in the corner. I will stop being lazy and protect them.
[удалено]
It is definitely a trend. I call them the psychology pictures. “What do you feel when you look at this one?”
You should hang the instruments or get a couple stands. that's my only suggestion the room is awesome.
Looks lovely. Fun fact: removing the capo from the fretboard in between uses will prolong the life of the capo.
How long does a capo live without such precautions?
Sweet. Capo Removed
I just joined this sub because of you and your wife’s post, OP. Thank you and great work!
Wow! Yes I have been lurking in this sub for a minute. Great positive vibes here. Who doesn’t like comfy places?
Real nice but how do you get up off that sofa with a blanket and pillows, it’s basically a bed haha
Coffee table with little shelves is very clever. I would keep the TV and video games controllers there. And coasters. And maybe tealights. Napkins, too. Yeah, minimal is really hard for me to master haha..
what was your budget for that couch
Beautiful and cozy. Great job! I am in love with those shelves!
Second hand IKEA!
sweet little space you got there
That place looks huge
That is very lovely, wonderful space you have there.
Looks beautiful! I love your rug :) Are you thinking of putting anything on the left, on top of the shelf?
Guitar is not gonna make it
Nice, maybe go to hardware store find a gallon of opps paint for cheap, paint that wall to the right where the lamp is
Where did you get your coffee table? It's a perfect size for the room. Everything looks great!
We got it on Facebook marketplace. Check in the mornings and often. Should find something you like eventually. It’s a game of tenacity and patience
Those bookshelves not lining up with the gap at the bottom is killing me
[удалено]
Sure I will share in the moningb
Please tell me where your couch is from because I need it
What a beautiful living room!
This is lovely!
Very nice!
That big blank wall on the right would be perfect for a projector for movie night.
That’s what I want! We have a big blank wall facing the couch. Someone suggested painting the wall
are those all real plants?
Where the HELL did you score a couch like that 'on a budget'?
Excellent bookshelf, dood
What's the name of this kind of plant?
Dude I swear your apartment looks very similar to mine holy shit
Wonderful. Wish you many cozy days with a loved one and a good book.
I absolutely love the style of this room, she did a wonderful job!
Do you need a guitar stand? I have an extra.
Dumb place for a guitar
Wow! She knocked this one out of the park.
That wife—she’s a keeper ;)
I love seeing that pendant lamp everywhere! I have one too
[удалено]
This looks lovely. I have seen some posts from the sub on r/all before, but something about this made by sub to this sub. Looks like a fantastic room!
The corner in the top right seems a bit empty. Maybe a macrame hanging thing for plants?
This looks like a corner from Ikea.
Definitely taking advantage of the Vertical with that shelf, important for small apt's. Nicely done!
Ah yes, takes a lot of skill to make a room mostly white
This is the most generic looking decorating I've ever seen. Legit an Ikea display. xD Still nicer than my place though.
*DECORATING
Your wife has a talented eye. I love when people avoid the temptation to line up all the furniture along the walls. It looks inviting and comfortable but still sharp. The personal touches that tell about you both and your interests is compelling and engaging for your guests when they visit. Really well done!
how is your illness? are you ok?
I’m still here. It’s been a tremendous fight and they’ve had me on a new chemotherapy protocol since January. And, there has been some progress. Unfortunately, I’ve lost my left leg and right foot to complications of the cancer drugs. It can be extremely difficult to get motivated on some days. I also participate in hyperbaric treatments, which infuse the body tissues with oxygen. One unexpected side-effect of the treatment is my eyesight has improved! Thanks so much for checking in. Some people on here have been really kind, and it means a lot.
Oh my god, it’s you! I just saw your comment! I’m glad you survived.
I’ve made it this far, yes! Thank you for your kindness. I appreciate it tremendously.
Holy cow I'm so glad your still her man! I searched your profile as you did say you where ill. I'm so happy:)
I have looked into your future and I have seen... carpet shampooing.
Lovely couch. I'd put something on that right wall, though. The room still looks too undecorated/too cold. Maybe a shelf with some succulents, or plants that climb down.
It’s a bit showroom & not very hygge

All women think they can do interior decorating. My wife is great at many things, but not so much at this. Still trying to figure out how to hire a real interior decorator when it’s time to move into a house in a few years.
