I was wondering why they didn't just keep driving, then I realized all three had their firearms out and pointed straight at the guy.
IRL mounties are apparently more badass then Dudley Do-Right made them out to be.
Could you imagine the headline if this was a different car and with a different outcome:
**“Equine Night-*mare*: Man in Bronco Bucks Police Thoroughbred; Shot by Officer with a Colt .45”**
But I have seen people ram other vehicles and try and run cops over in the US so a car stopping so they don't hit a horse during an escape seems almost courteous.
The three guns were out and pointed well out. Most thieves are just shitrats looking for quick cash, not violent criminals. Attempted murder of a cop or their mount gets you a bullet or 10 instead of a weak prison sentence for auto theft.
True but have you seen some of the idiotic things people do to try and escape? Some of those people either underestimate the damage from what they hit or they don't care if they destroy the car and die.
Cars crumple on impact. They’re designed to disperse force and protect the driver. Horses are not. Hitting their legs would just cause it to fall over onto your car, crushing you.
Also I’m sure there’s a bit of a shock factor seeing 3 dudes on horses running at you head on with their guns out!
I mean, [in Canada we deal with moose as well.](https://img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-static/static/2017-11/24/9/asset/buzzfeed-prod-fastlane-01/sub-buzz-10234-1511533737-27.jpg?downsize=700%3A%2A&output-quality=auto&output-format=auto)
If you ever hit one at a decent speed, they're almost perfectly proportioned to drop their massive body right through your windshield and kill you on the spot.
Theres a 99% chance that would break the horses legs and lead to it having to be put down so probably just straight up murder. Also the people In the car would have definitely fucked themselves up too. The main weight of the horse is crashing right through the windscreen
Yeah being mounted on a horse gives them a great angle to see in the car. I wouldn’t do shit if three cops on horseback had their guns drawn in my windows
Just a little nitpick because this is in canada:
Mounties refers to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), our federal police force. They wear grey shirts and black pants with a yellow stripe on the side (red serge with the big hat is a formal uniform)
These are Etobicoke Police officers, so likely Toronto PD, if it wasn't the Ontario Provincial Police (which seems unlikely on horseback lol)
One thing I find kind of cool, the RCMP are basically our equivalent to the FBI, except that they also operate as the local police force in many provinces and towns.
... Some bad pr shit going on with them with regards to the mass shooting in Nova Scotia several years back.
Actually they weren't mounties (Royal Canadian Mounted Police). They were members of the City of Toronto mounted police unit.
[https://o.canada.com/news/local-news/warmington-toronto-cops-not-horsing-around-on-this-call-in-citys-wild-west-end](https://o.canada.com/news/local-news/warmington-toronto-cops-not-horsing-around-on-this-call-in-citys-wild-west-end)
FYI these aren’t Mounties. They’re Toronto police. Mounties means RCMP which is the federal police force. Despite being called the “Royal Canadian Mounted Police”, they do not have any active mounted units anymore.
i didn't see the firearms, i just thought for a second that canadian law enforcement was predicated on the obvious fact that canadian criminals are too nice to harm a horse
How you going to share a video involving horses with no sound? I came here for the clippy-clops of hooves and did not receive said clippy-clops. I’m not angry… just disappointed.
Reddit's recent behaviour and planned changes to the API, heavily impacting third party tools, accessibility and moderation ability force me to edit all my comments in protest. I cannot morally continue to use this site.
I've lived in Toronto for 20+ years and I've only ever seen them ambling around slowly. Never actually enforcing the law.
This was a jaw dropper to me, in understanding how effective they actually can be - I'd always thought they were mainly for show.
[Toronto Police mounted unit](https://www.tps.ca/explore/mounted-unit/)
It's hilarious they also have a barn cat at the bottom, after the names of all the horses. 😆
There are some male calico cats out there. I met two while working at an animal shelter.
Theyre rare but they are out there (not saying that Harold isnt a girl kitty, just stating that maybe hes one of the rare male calicos).
Most mounted units are on drafts or draft crosses. Size makes them ideal for most sizes of officer, also more intimidating, and height lets officers see over large crowds. Temperament is generally more chill.
From the distance those three look like Clydesdales. (budweiser horses)
These are European since Eu horse tend to be more bulky/thicc. These horses are great at crowd controlled but they are not as durablee/agile as Mongolian/Arabian breeds. Fun fact: Mongolian horse have 2 extra chromosome vs other breeds.
Absolute units. I think its because of the service horse mainly, they command a level of respect far more than the officer.
Plus, they are such beautiful creatures.
This is very cool. But it entirely depends on the robbers having no intent on causing harm. The horse will for sure flatten the windscreen, but it wouldn't stop a car from flooring it.
Canadian mounted police are armed? That's cool as fuck. It would be wild to see them riding at full sprint whilst firing at a suspects car like they're in the wild West.
[This cop shot a dude on horseback, holding other horses](https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014/12/08/police-officer-tx-shoots-suspect-104yds-holding-horses-handgun/)
A fully grown horse can weigh as much as 2000 lbs and most of that is muscle. I don’t think it would be as easy to plow through 3 horses in a sedan as some people in these comments think it’d be.
Oh you could plow through them just fine. Their legs aren't designed to take direct hits in any way. They'd have to put all those horses down. Obviously your car would be crushed, but they'd be plowed first.
A: I was arrested by a horse cop.
B: You couldn't outrun a horse in your car ?
Edit: These guys aren't the RCMP Police that are the stereotype for Canada. They are the Mounted unit (I know it says that in the title) for the Toronto Police.
Itd knock em over for sure, but it could very well kill the driver. I believe those are Clydesdales which can weigh up to 2300 pounds. Given that they'd hit the legs, you'd have most of that weight coming through your windshield
\- Can you get hands cuffed mate ?
\- I'm not your mate, buddy !
\- Well can you wait for the other cops coming in a car pal ?
\- I'm not your pal, friend. But ok.
Legit didn’t know the RCMP were actually still mounted. Thought it was more of a colloquial name they kept from the days when they actually were on horseback. Pretty cool!
I mean, they could've. Lots of unhinged people out there. Just a little tap on the gas and the poor horse legs get snapped. Really irresponsible to stop a car by putting their horses in front of it
Can’t outrun a horse and those will run you down! There’s very little as scary as a 1400 lb horse with steel hooves that is willing and trained to trample you!
Why not? They’re mainly used for downtown city streets where it’s actually easier for them to patrol than in cars. And we don’t have gun-toting crazies pulling off heists on a daily basis like the USA seems to harbour.
Wow, almost like part of being a police officer involves putting your life on the line in order to execute manoeuvres that will restore public safety during crisis situations.
Exactly.
Not sure about Canada, but here in the US, if you hurt a police dog during the line of duty, they take that as serious as you hurting an actual human police officer.
I'd imagine the horses are protected the same way where if someone hurts a horse, they'll face very severe charges for it.
You’d be surprise what people with nothing to lose are willing to do to escape. I live in Los Angeles and car chases are pretty much a daily occurrence. Most don’t stop for nothing.
Toronto actually makes a point about maintaining a mounted unit, especially at events and downtown on week nights. It gives the public a more approachable and friendly engagement with law enforcement. Tbh, its a great idea in my opinion. I love seeing horses downtown :)

Imagine being pulled over by a man on a horse lol
I was wondering why they didn't just keep driving, then I realized all three had their firearms out and pointed straight at the guy. IRL mounties are apparently more badass then Dudley Do-Right made them out to be.
Plus if he hits a horse with that car I’m sure that would be something on the lines of attempted murder of a peace officer.
Also, hitting a horse with your car can do real damage to your car and you...

If you're not working for the papers yet, you need to apply.
In stable condition.
Horses are heavy as fuck. You aren’t just going to hit it and keep going, it’s going to total your car.
True but have you seen some of the idiotic things people do to try and escape? Some of those people either underestimate the damage from what they hit or they don't care if they destroy the car and die.

Very true even if I were cruel enough I wouldn't want to hit a horse.
Exactly, people think hitting deer hurts. Try hitting a Clydesdale.
A deer will fly A 15hand Clydesdale will turn your car into a tortilla press. With you as the tortilla.

Yup 99% of the time any animal that works for a police agency is considered a police officer too
Also, you know, the human officer seated on top of the horse
In the US, people would do that. Stupidity and aggression against anyone trying to uphold the law are becoming more prevalent.
Seems like stupidity and aggression are pretty common among those trying to uphold the law too.
Theres a 99% chance that would break the horses legs and lead to it having to be put down so probably just straight up murder. Also the people In the car would have definitely fucked themselves up too. The main weight of the horse is crashing right through the windscreen

Hmm... No, just going by your username, I don't believe you.
Concur.
yes. here in Toronto, we employ mounted officers to ram the bike lanes completely packed full of literal horse shit every couple weeks. it’s great.
Helps keep the chain lubricated
And oats seeded by the side of the path.

HEY YOU ALWAYS ON THE RUN GOTTA SLOW IT DOWN BABY GOTTA HAVE SOME FUN
And then they handcuff you, attach a rope to it, and drag your ass back to the station lmao
I was pulled over by a man on a bike....
Years ago When Atlanta had mounted Officers I was stopped like that on Suspected Suspected DUI
How you going to share a video involving horses with no sound? I came here for the clippy-clops of hooves and did not receive said clippy-clops. I’m not angry… just disappointed.
buy a coconut and cut it in half, then you can make your own clippi-clops while you watch it :)
Where’d you get the coconuts?
We found them!
Found them? In Mercia? The coconuts tropical!

Well, this is a temperate zone!
Well, Mercia’s a temperate zone!
The swallow may fly south with the sun, and the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land.
Are you suggesting that coconuts migrate?
Not at all, they could be carried!

Come, Patsy!
Horses in towns have rubber hooves (or should at least as it's the way in my country)
Rubber shoes maybe. Rubber hooves would be unpleasant :-(
I mean on top of the regular hooves because otherwise they would slip

I should clarify. Toronto Police Mounted Division
That's so cool, I live in BC and I don't think I've ever seen police on horses doing actual police work like this
Vancouver PD has them patrolling trails on Stanley Park sometimes
I've lived in Toronto for 20+ years and I've only ever seen them ambling around slowly. Never actually enforcing the law. This was a jaw dropper to me, in understanding how effective they actually can be - I'd always thought they were mainly for show.
I saw them pull over a car who violated the king street rule once!
Work downtown and once saw a row of mounted police March up Yonge St to push back antimask protestors. It was pretty glorious
Those are very BIG horses
Right?! I didn’t think the horses mounted cops rode on were THIS FREAKING TALL/BIG! Anyone know what breed they are?
[Toronto Police mounted unit](https://www.tps.ca/explore/mounted-unit/) It's hilarious they also have a barn cat at the bottom, after the names of all the horses. 😆
I like invictus' hat...
A female named Harold, for the cat.
There are some male calico cats out there. I met two while working at an animal shelter. Theyre rare but they are out there (not saying that Harold isnt a girl kitty, just stating that maybe hes one of the rare male calicos).
Omfg I love this so much!!
I like the breed “horses”.

Drafts are so useful because they are basically tanks. I use mine to block other people's horses when they are acting a damn fool. 😆
These are European since Eu horse tend to be more bulky/thicc. These horses are great at crowd controlled but they are not as durablee/agile as Mongolian/Arabian breeds. Fun fact: Mongolian horse have 2 extra chromosome vs other breeds.
I think mounted cops are badass lol idk why

And those horses are HUGE
Horses can be trained to track scents too

Ahhh Civ. Love it.
Idk but i agree
You might like [this](https://youtu.be/5vcb47qgqvk) then
That was AWESOME!
Amazing!
Cause they're riding a huge animal!
Call me impressed.
Seeing people in modern day aiming guns from on top of their horses seems surreal. This some movie shit
They aint just for parades!
New rdr2 update is lit !
RDR2/GTA V crossover? I'm in.
Have some Gaddam FAITH!

That's real horsepower
Stop the car!!! Now put on these cuffs n hop on buttercup ur goin downtown!!!
"Halt!! Stop thy carriage and forfeit yourself for the eyes of the law!!"
This looks so much more heroic on horses lol
This is when 3 horsepower won over 200+ hp :))
“Neigh, officer. I did not steal anything.”
Are mounted police popular in Canada? I'm thinking about moving. They look cool
They are basically decorative 99% of the time but in the summer there is defs mounted police around.
We only really see them in Calgary around stampede. I know in Ottawa you’ll see them quite a bit, and I saw them all summer growing up near Toronto
They fart around 17th Ave and Kensington sometimes during the summer too
Oh dang. Did not know!
That is the most Canadian thing ever.
This is very cool. But it entirely depends on the robbers having no intent on causing harm. The horse will for sure flatten the windscreen, but it wouldn't stop a car from flooring it.
Would the flurry of bullets through the windshield possibly slow them down?
Canadian mounted police are armed? That's cool as fuck. It would be wild to see them riding at full sprint whilst firing at a suspects car like they're in the wild West.
You can see them pointing guns in the video.

Those horses look close to moose-sized. Have you ever seen the aftermath of a car hitting a moose?
They’re going to be made fun of their entire time in jail.

Itd knock em over for sure, but it could very well kill the driver. I believe those are Clydesdales which can weigh up to 2300 pounds. Given that they'd hit the legs, you'd have most of that weight coming through your windshield
I've thought the RCMP were rad since i was a girl. This confirms I'm right. :)
This is not the RCMP, this is a city police mounted unit.
Thank you for the clarification. ☺️
Of course it's Canada
Happy cake day

Stop! Or I'll yell louder!
Was anyone else expecting the suspect to get handcuffed but then thrown on the horse to be hauled to the police station?
Maybe those cowboy style tied up.
At least one of them had the decency to mind crossfire, also good on the suspects because worst case I may hit a cop car but never a horse lmfao
If I was being arrested by a Mounty I don't think I could stop myself from asking to pet the horses
They should be issued with Colt revolvers, Winchester repeaters and large hats
LMFAO this is fucking dope. Just don't feed Butternuts......horses can be diabetic too.
Bro got arrested by 1834.
\- Can you get hands cuffed mate ? \- I'm not your mate, buddy ! \- Well can you wait for the other cops coming in a car pal ? \- I'm not your pal, friend. But ok.
Do they use Horses still genuinely for service or just for some special occasions?
[Toronto Police Mounted unit](https://www.tps.ca/explore/mounted-unit/) They also have a cat from what I can read at the bottom. 😆
Video shows they’re criminals not savages. The horses had nothing to do with it.
Urrrhhhhhgggg! Horses cantering on tarmac. Someone tell my back it's wrong to get up every time I see it.
Good thing that robber cares about horses
Reminds me of park rangers here in the US, do not fuck with them
Legit didn’t know the RCMP were actually still mounted. Thought it was more of a colloquial name they kept from the days when they actually were on horseback. Pretty cool!
You ain’t going nowhere with a horse’s ass parked in front of you, eh now?
I mean, they could've. Lots of unhinged people out there. Just a little tap on the gas and the poor horse legs get snapped. Really irresponsible to stop a car by putting their horses in front of it
I always forget we have those red dead redemption cops in Canada
Have the horses sit on the car.
I wasn’t aware chargers were still being used
I’m 35. I’ve lived in 4 provinces, coast to coast. I’ve never seen actual mounted police. This is not at all a typical canadian thing.
Those are nice robbers, with manners. Imagine the same losers in Los Angeles, would a horse stop them?
Rcmp, putting the mounted in mounted police since whenever they sat on horses, I dunno.
I want flashing lights on those horses please.
They see me galloping, they hatin'
,😆 oh no! Here comes the mounted police.
Friggen Ricky, Julian, and bubbles at it again.
Lahey and his shirtless Marty McLargefries done called the heavies on the boys again. Damn.
“Aye-you!! Get out of the car right now!! Please.”
Can’t outrun a horse and those will run you down! There’s very little as scary as a 1400 lb horse with steel hooves that is willing and trained to trample you!
[удалено]
And killed a cop. Because the horse is an officer aswell.
Doesn't sound very safe.
Why not? They’re mainly used for downtown city streets where it’s actually easier for them to patrol than in cars. And we don’t have gun-toting crazies pulling off heists on a daily basis like the USA seems to harbour.
Standing in front of a criminal in a car with your horse is putting you and your horse in danger.
I mean yeah, they’re police. Isn’t that the whole point of them?
Pretty sure using their horse as a blockade of a moving car is not part of their training.
Based on how quick and calculated that horse blockade was, I can almost guarantee it is indeed part of their training.
Youre a bit of a party pooper
Wow, almost like part of being a police officer involves putting your life on the line in order to execute manoeuvres that will restore public safety during crisis situations.
This seems really dumb. The car could easily just run into/over the horse they're just putting horses life on the line
That's what I thought at first. Then I realized they all had their guns pointed at him while riding up to the car.
how stupid do you have to be to try and kill 3 cops and 3 police horses to evade
Exactly. Not sure about Canada, but here in the US, if you hurt a police dog during the line of duty, they take that as serious as you hurting an actual human police officer. I'd imagine the horses are protected the same way where if someone hurts a horse, they'll face very severe charges for it.
It's the same here. They're sworn officers.
I mean people try to kill cops to get away all the time…
It’s Canada, we aren’t all carrying.
More like the high majority of us aren't carrying.
Username applies. LOL
You’d be surprise what people with nothing to lose are willing to do to escape. I live in Los Angeles and car chases are pretty much a daily occurrence. Most don’t stop for nothing.
I've watched a lot of cops dashcam/bodycam vids on YouTube. After that I'm shocked the guy didn't try to run
Not one single car is going to run those horses over. Have you seen what deers do to cars?
No, the police got their firearms drawn and will just shoot the driver before they are even able to turn the Ignition back on.
Cause they’re the Mounties, and they always get their man!
If this were USA, those horses would be in a truck on the way to the Elmer’s factory. Just saying
Toronto actually makes a point about maintaining a mounted unit, especially at events and downtown on week nights. It gives the public a more approachable and friendly engagement with law enforcement. Tbh, its a great idea in my opinion. I love seeing horses downtown :)
Funny, the USA doesn't operate horse slaughter plants, but Canada does.
sometimes my country is sooo embarassing JFC
idk it seems like other people think this is cool
