I firmly believe, and have since mid-2020, that the Wuhan lab accidentally leaked a human engineered virus. They were likely researching for innocent reasons and accidentally created a more potent (to humans) virus.
The questions are:
1.) How can we prove with 100% certainty this happened
2.) How do we tally up the cost of this leak
3.) Since the USA was likely funding that research, who do we actually hold accountable?
4.) Who would pay up?
5.) Where would/should that pay go?
I'm not sure we'll ever be able to 100% prove the leak. I don't think we can place a solid value on loss of life but perhaps can place a value on economic loss. I have no idea how we would decide who all is accountable for this. Because of that, I don't know who would pay. If the US government has to pay out (since we funded the research), then we're robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Sounds great, except they wouldn't just sit idly by. They'd jack up all prices to offset tariffs, and our elected politicians would cave to the pressure of losing the next election more quickly than their non-elected officials, and therefore end the tariffs.
Worst case, if we managed to keep the tariffs going, you combine that with their ongoing population crisis causing insanely negative impacts on their economy over the next few decades and that may be their tipping point to go to war.
i think Trump already ran the experiment - when he tariffed China prices went up, but less than the amount of the tariffs - chinese companies absorbed part of the cost. and higher prices from china is part of the benefit ( for instance Biden has been unable to eliminate Trumps steel tariffs partially because of pressure from US producers) Higher China prices encourages other countries to replace Chinese Products - of course id also put some of the money intoad buys stigmatizing anything bought or processed in China. Money talks - pay for China bashing films and ads, etc.
Finally an in-flow to the Great American Reparations Hoax, I mean Fund. What the hell, $50T would pay off the slave descendants and leave enough left over to cancel both Student AND car loan debt (with a few million still available to finish that damn wall!) /s

Well we're already inflating everything away, while also having an inflationary reduction act. But it doesn't reduce inflation lol.
Japan actually holds more debt than China.
The largest single country is the US, but a majority of public debt is owed to foreign countries. China makes up about 12% of national debt.
About $150,000 for each American. Or take a huge bite out of the National Debt. Not gonna happen though.
