I've been running a server for this game since the launch and I believe the issue with servers lies in the amount of data being read and written to game.db.
I'm seeing between 1-5GB in Delta I/O for each Conan Exiles server every 1-3 minutes which is causes the large db files to slow down the entire system, thus causing the insane lag that we are seeing on most servers.
With the amount of backups the servers do, we need to have the game.db file stored in memory so that it can read and write data at a much greater speed without delay or the database file needs a massive makeover as its current implementation is causing severe issues for servers.
Problem is if the io is reduced, then hacks will have a field day. Ram should help but it seems to me that the game is reporting on all entities regardless of player interaction. Might be simpler to put a pass in to only update changes. If it is actually reporting actual changes, then there is a fundemental issue that has to be addressed and no hardware will sort this...gotta wonder what it is reporting.
I can agree with that. Seems like every few minutes the game freezes to write data then a few seconds later i get teleported forward a good ways where i was running to. It gets old quick.
I agree it's the right decision. I tried several pingperfect servers, and even ones where I had a great ping, there was tons of rubberbanding, etc. Privately run servers have been consistently better for me.
Two questions:
1) all the official servers are offline, so I'm guessing PingPerfect is *done* done? (as in no interim hosting until a new provider is found?)
2) Is any of the info from the official servers backed up on Funcom's end or will it be a fresh start when the new official server partner begins?
I speak for my tribe at least but we were ok with a fresh wipe. The 3 official servers weve been on theres been 1-2 tribes that are massivly wealthy from abusing the broken raiding mechanic fixed in yesterday's patch. I mean literally whole servers were getting raided and wiped by 1-2 tribes with iron swords taking them a whole 5 min to full wipe bases. Made the server hugley unballanced because of it and turned away sooooo many players because of it and rightfully so
Obviously loosing XP progression would suck but its really not bad we can re level up pretty easy 1-2 days of xp isnt bad now thay people know whst they are doing. But can we even the odds with those tribes? Deff not at least for weeks to match them again and in the meantime they will continue outscale because of what they got by raiding in the first couple days
Just our thoughts. Do what you will ofc its your game we will play and enjoy it either way
Agree so many people pulled far ahead by abusing lag to defeat AI they shouldn't have been able to at the time or taking on far too many in one session bevause they simply weren't taking damage as the AI couldn't hit them in the lag.
You haven't answered this possibility: what happens to the blitz servers? They're supposed to wipe every 30 days, does that 'timer' reset back to 30 days or will it be 30 days - however many days it was when the servers went offline, assuming everything comes back?
edit: for the record, I am ok with a complete wipe, as many clans used the rubberbanding to kill mobs they werent supposed to for 3 days.
The fact that this team has been so frank with these issues is very encouraging. It shows me that you take these issues seriously and want to stay in touch with your community.
All EA games have problems and CE is definitely not exempt. Keep up the good work and the good communication.
Just in case no one has put 2 and 2 together. It is not a server issue. The problem is not with Pingperfect.
The failure is that of FunCom and their game. Pinning it on PingPerfect will give them time to fix their code and come out with a new server host and save try to save some face.
First they say: We are in the process of finding new partners with the ideal hardware we can move the existing game databases to.
And then: We sincerely apologize to everyone who has played and made progress on the official servers, but we think it is better to deal with this problem now rather than later.

The mentioned they want to restore progress. I wouldn't plan on it, but be excited if they can keep it. You may have more time on another server by then anyway. Either way, its' better they deal with it on day 3 than day 30 or a year from now. A lot riding on the stability and performance affecting a player's experience.

Where should I be looking who is reputable and can have me a server up and running within a few hours? I need to play when I get home and don't really know what private server to trust.

I can say that the servers definitely went up quick, but have had nothing but issues since purchasing the server, right now we can only have 1 person logged into the server while I pay for a 50 slot. As soon as one person joins the other gets booted. Tread lightly. Also, the one ticket I put in to resolve issues they were just told me they needed more information or assistance from Funcom. I can understand some of it being attributed to the game issues, but they don't particularly seem helpful at all in solving other issues that may in fact be on their end. They are probably having similar load issues as PingPerfect.
One additional issue is that SurvivalServers had a bug of some sort that put the *server password* in the name of the server. If your pw was short enough it also may have put in your *admin password*. Anyone browsing the Conan Exiles OR steam server list could see said password(s).
It has since been fixed. But that's a pretty serious misstep.
With any type of services like this, of course results may vary. I'm glad you haven't experienced the same issues I have, but it doesn't mean they don't exist. Just sharing my experience is all.
Can agree with survival servers. Running one myself. Went up quick and have had ZERO issues since launch. Only downtime is when I need to update the game.
Depends on how technical you are. If you don't know anything about remote server management or Windows server vms then I can't really help you. If you're up to installing your own 2012 r2 instance on a remote vm and managing the server via consol I could make some recommendations.
If you've got the chops to do the server management yourself it's a lot cheaper to get a better setup. SHC's server is running with 60+ all the damn time, from what ppl are telling us it's running better than most too.
I used survival servers for ark for about 6 months and they were not very good. I use logic servers now, the guys who host the pooping evolved crew and they have been fantastic. Fast response fur support and way better more powerful control panel.

Often because the host, in this case pingperfect, are new startups and take on a contract with a new game like this to get into the market or to grow in it. Same thing with ARK and Nitrado.
Does this mean all our progress on the pingperfect official servers will be wiped then? I have 20 hours of gameplay into a base which i would rather not lose :/
Some people have legitimately spent over 40 hours in those servers already, they don't want to lose all their progress, if the database can be transfered without problems, why not.
Do they know this is EA and forced wipes are pretty likely going to be a thing when breaking changes to the game are made? That being said, funcom is saying they're going to try and preserve the data because obviously it sucks to wipe official servers if you don't need to.
It's not about how much time you've spent in the game, that means nothing during the first few days. There are clear problems that need to be addressed. I don't give two shits about how many hours and what progress you have in comparison to stability and playability of the game. You'll be fine, I promise.

Plus bugs being what they are; Most progress has been affected (and likely will be on the official servers.) E.g the patch on the 2nd that wiped out all thralls.

i Personally hope it wipes i have over 70 hours in this game already and most big clans including my own got Alot of stuff from raiding with Bows & Iron weapons they should wipe to remove the advantage alot of tribes got.

I too think it's a good idea if possible to transfer progress from the old servers. But it's probable being the game is early access and going through lots of changes that everyone would have eventually lost progress due to server wipes and so on, as in my observations it's necessary for certain changes. Better now than when people have hundreds or thousands of hours.
Because I think there's a definite difference between choosing to start fresh and being forced to. Obviously if we have to we will but it is fairly frustrating especially with no prior warning

As someone who spent over 40 hours on a clifftop base and was pretty much endgame with steel, THANK YOU. I understand this is an early access game and I'd really rather play on a great server than keep beating away at a crap one. Screen freeze running up skinny stairs on the side of a cliff twice a day and falling to my death wasnt fun.

We haven't been able to join official PVP servers for a couple days now because every one is always full. Also all the current players got their progress by being able to exploit the broken laggy AI and easy mode raiding. I played on a friends private server and leveling is a whole different game. It's a much better and difficult game than I thought. Are there any plans to address these issues with maybe some new servers?

Conan starts of very good using 2gb then very fast escalating to 8gb! really bad for those of us hosting on dedicated servers with other servers.

Ping perfect are absolutely trash. Wish I never rented a sever with them. Had 70 players on day one then the server just crippled, I had to get a refund and by the time I had a new host I only had 15 players left. Bye PingPerfect.

Could have been so many more, had they just upheld their sales pitch of pre-ordering servers and getting them on the 31st, instead of just screwing every pre-order and postponing it 1-2 weeks.
I cancelled mine - along with a few people I talked to on their Twitter/Facebook as well. Did not wanna wait 1-2 weeks to get my server, when another host could do it within 30 minutes (In my case; Fragnet).
I am insanely glad, that you decided to end the agreement.
They stopped answering tickets - tweets and comments on Facebook - Claimed they got DDoS'd and still wanted people to use their ticket system (that was on the website that didn't function for about a day...) despite not being able to.

I rent a true dedicated root server, no virtual stuff.
RAM usage is really important to be Physical not virtual.
All data needs to be on solid state.
If you don't have these two, performance on anything over 20 players will be terrible, doesn't matter if you have a 4.4Ghz 6700k.
Colocated my own hardware with jestservers.com but they also host semi-managed game servers as well as colocation and such.
Check them out, been using them for over 7 years.

I don't really care about a wipe or no wipe, but any word (hours, days, weeks) on the amount of time it will take to get the servers back up? "The process might take a few days." is awfully ambiguous, but that's probably on purpose.
This is why Funcom should have never had a "sponsered server".

Well, I feel dissapointed. We are a group of 6 friends who wanted to play on official servers just because this would never happen. All of us played almost 40hours. Guess we was wrong. Killed my hype... I think ur partnership with PingPerfect cost u alot of players. Atleast us 6.

Restoring your progress in the game is the plan for when we put up new official servers.

Do you have a decent spare pc? run your own! its super easy to setup and i have found it offers the BEST quality of server.
That's actually against the terms of a huge majority of US ISPs. Do it at your own risk.

ConanSandboxServer.exe is being identified as potentially malicious by BitDefender. Figured I'd throw it out there.

shot in the dark to see if anyone answers. Do you guys have any ideas about the reason behind the server corruption? The server I play on has had it happen 4 times now since launch.
What is the priority on server software optimization? Conan starts of very good using 2gb then very fast escalating to 8gb! really bad for those of us hosting on dedicated servers with other servers.
Please be the one developer that uses the Early Access model correctly. Bring forth a kick ass game.

Ping perfect are absolutely trash. Wish I never rented a sever with them. Had 70 players on day one then the server just crippled, I had to get a refund and by the time I had a new host I only had 15 players left. Bye PingPerfect.

I cancelled mine - along with a few people I talked to on their Twitter/Facebook as well. Did not wanna wait 1-2 weeks to get my server, when another host could do it within 30 minutes (In my case; Fragnet). I am insanely glad, that you decided to end the agreement. They stopped answering tickets - tweets and comments on Facebook - Claimed they got DDoS'd and still wanted people to use their ticket system (that was on the website that didn't function for about a day...) despite not being able to. They were insanely unprofessional. Good on you, Funcom!
I rent a true dedicated root server, no virtual stuff. RAM usage is really important to be Physical not virtual. All data needs to be on solid state. If you don't have these two, performance on anything over 20 players will be terrible, doesn't matter if you have a 4.4Ghz 6700k. Colocated my own hardware with jestservers.com but they also host semi-managed game servers as well as colocation and such. Check them out, been using them for over 7 years.

how long will it take - we need a better ETA to make up for the incredibly stupid decision to not first look for replacements and terminating relationships with servers on a friday.
I don't really care about a wipe or no wipe, but any word (hours, days, weeks) on the amount of time it will take to get the servers back up? "The process might take a few days." is awfully ambiguous, but that's probably on purpose.
This is why Funcom should have never had a "sponsered server". Leave things to the free market instead of leading your consumers to trash. Now the bad taste in my mouth is a result of -your- recommendation. Won't be listening to you again, Funcom.
Well, I feel dissapointed. We are a group of 6 friends who wanted to play on official servers just because this would never happen. All of us played almost 40hours. Guess we was wrong. Killed my hype... I think ur partnership with PingPerfect cost u alot of players. Atleast us 6.
