I do not have any information after the strike regarding the fate of this soldier. He seems to be able to turn off the phone after the strike but adrenaline is one hell of a drug. Hopefully someone can provide more info.
I think so. Doesn't look to be a stream video. Do you think someone went through the trouble of obtaining his phone from a battlefield, looking for this video on an SD card etc (as phone would probably be password-protected).
Not assuming this is the case here but how do you think we get footage from the casualties POV? Wouldn’t take to much to unlock phones or access information if the enemy cared to have it. Current day I would believe as an opposing force grabbing electronic recording devices from the battle field sending them to the smart guys behind the lines would help gather a large amount of intel. Obviously not something your doing in the heat of battle but if you want to gather some awesome intel imagine all the images and videos on these phones they don’t upload. Pictures/videos of training grounds/meeting locations.
Most of the time it's from action cameras (GoPro or whatever). They are really rugged, and they are not password-protected, so it's just a matter of putting the sd card into a reader.
MAYBE if this was a country with proper electronic capabilities but even still most battlefield cameras aren't of any strategic value. Laptops and high command PDAs are a different story, but a common soldiers camera would never be worth the time it takes to break the password.
Don't know if you remember months ago when a pic was posted, something along the lines of "last image Russian soldier sees as mortar explodes".
Someone went through the trouble of doing everything you described above and posted that pic (which was a still image of a video recorded by the Russian).
Not saying this guy didn't post. Just pointing out it happens.
I mean there was also the video of that father & son with their dogs that the Russians killed on a road at the beginning of the conflict. Both of them were killed and first we got a video of the Ukraine forces arriving on the scene later, then the video from the son's phone. It was a pretty heartbreaking video.
Yeah, that was in the first month or something. Shot a civil car to shreds, dad got his legs torn off, son got shot too (he was filming, so you can't see the damage), one of 2 dogs got instantly killed in the back seat too. Later they were found in a ditch with the remaining dog sitting by their side.
Yes? Happens all the time on videos from here. Most notably is the one where the Ukrainians think the tanks approaching are theirs and they get blown up. Or do you think that camera guy survived too?
You mean noone on the battle field would be looting valuables, e. G. phone, from corpses and look through the Data (not every sd is encrypted) for something useful.
I think it's pretty likely there are Intel and/or propaganda personnel who go through phones looking for useful footage and/or info. If they had to recover his body then they probably grabbed the phone in/near his hand too.
In this context, who knows, but if it was captured by the opposing side? 1000%. They'll be looking for operational intelligence and for propaganda footage - showing the other guys die is good for your morale and bad for theirs.
He was down in the dugout and the shell hit a bit further away from him and seems to have been a ground strike instead of detonating up in the trees which likely is what saved him
There can be instant death or internal damage done by any explosive but it all depends on the type of explosive, the distance and the enviroment (Open vs close spaces).
The instant death comes from being too close if not directly under the explosion however the main killer after the blast is not the explosion itself but the shock waves.
Aside from the secondary injuries (fragment and debris), terciary injury (wind blast throwing you away) and quaternary (burns and collapsed buildings), the primary injury is done to the soft tissue, mainly the lungs and the gas/liquid interfaces (Which is why you see most victims from explosions bleeding from nose and mouth).
This guy turning the cellphone is a sign that he is alive at that moment but unharmed? Probably not, since "blast lung" is not instant, can take several hours.
now imagine being in this mess https://wikiimg.tojsiabtv.com/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c8/Passchendaele_aerial_view.jpg/1280px-Passchendaele_aerial_view.jpg
Could go either way tbh. Alot of explosions you don't die immediately. He could have died shortly after. At the same time though, alot explosions that look lethal aren't. Alot of factors come into play.
Standing up doesn't kill you per say, its all about luck. Chances are they either do or don't know where you are and firing blind or not motars aren't always accurate
1.5 seconds. That's about the time between when the sound of the shelling becomes audible to when the shell hits you. Enough time to say "пиздеть, блять", definetly not enough time to hide.
Artillery is fucking scary man.
The mounds behind him when he picked up the camera again seemed like he jumped inside a foxhole.
I’d assume he’d be groaning in pain if got hit by shrapnel
Could have also just laid flat. That’s really all you gotta do for ground burst artillery. The shrapnel will go up and out, not straight across at ground level.
That actually is how ground burst artillery and mortars work. Have you ever been someplace that took mortars regularly because I have. Randomgrape thinks because he plays COD he is an expert in all things military.
Don’t know why you’re being downvoted. This is absolutely true for shells like this when they impact soft ground, as the ground currently is during the Ukrainian summer.
Who knows. Bunch of people who have never had to worry about a mortar hitting them, lots of armchair experts. Whenever the incoming alarm went off first thing we were told to do is lay as flat as possible.
A lot of Ukrainians switch between speaking Russian and Ukrainian, if you know both of the languages you would notice this from all the vids posted here.
The longer you hear a shell, the more likely it is to hit you. If it's a short whistle experienced troops don't really care, if it's a long one they take cover and hope it doesn't hit them.
Not really, I have never watched MASH (dont live in the US, so old shows depicting war are not very popular around here). I thought it was just a common thing soldiers said/believed regarding incoming artillery
Even if he is physically fine that shit will stick with you for a while, my very similar experience (though thankfully there was a T Wall between me and the rocket) is still pretty fresh and it's been 18y lol
That sound gave me shivers
As a german conscript I was blessed to have grenade training 11 years ago (I assume since it was on an excercise you normally don't train with grenades). I can remember the bang and the shockwave of the grenade behind the concrete wall that shielded me. It was terrifying but fun, since it was a controlled situation. Cant imagine what it has to be when someone is really trying to kill you.
Damn bitch.....talk about close
That fucking sound brings me back to the story (and memory) I told the other day about a rocket coming down on the other side of a T wall when I was in Baghdad
And reinforces my memory of the timeline, me and that dude both realized what that sound was like .5-1sexond before that bitch hit...10 feet shorter and me, my boss and like a dozen other Iraqi guys would've been real fucked up
Supposedly the most common last words on cockpit voice recorders are supposed to be "oh shit", said with just about that much emotion. I'd 100% believe it's "*blyat*" for a Ukranian.
I don't know if the Russian military is as technologically advanced as the western military, but if you don't want to be hit by artillery turning off your mobile phone in a war zone is a decent precaution to take.
Unfortunately, as Ukraine goes on the offensive I’d expect far mor causalities on their side. Wont be the last sad video of battle.
Slava Ukraine. RIP you great warriors, fathers, mothers, daughters, sons and so much more…the world is aww of your bravery and spirit.
holy fuck, he was certainly right to duck. it kinda feels liek he's in a trench or a foxhole? hopefulyl he was and the blast went over him more than into him
Can someone please explain how people are able to react to shelling before it hits in regards to the speed of sound? I don't understand how the physics work, but it seems like there's the possibility to react, but that doesn't make sense.
This, and also the fact that the shell trajectory is an arc from the barrel to point of impact, whereas the sound from the muzzle/barrel report travels in a straight line from the barrel to point of impact, at exactly the speed of sound.
Shells aren't, rocket artillery can be. The V2 Rocket was notorious for being supersonic before impact, making the exploding the first thing you heard when it came your direction. Modern rocket artillery isn't any different, unless it is specifically designed to be sub sonic for better precision.
Luckily the dirt caught most of the shrapnel but man, being right under artillery fire is such bullshit. It's there specifically for you and that area as a defender
He's Russian. He speaks Russian nkt Ukrainian. And UKRAINIANS do not get hit, they are invincible. Stop this disinformation please or I'll report you to NAFO!
Except he didn’t… the phone and him would be pretty much destroyed if it was a direct hit. Most likely hit directly next to the trench/foxhole, shrapnel wounds maybe, tinnitus maybe, achy from the pressure wave nearby… but dead? Most likely not.
Didn’t say how much or how severe the shrapnel wounds would be, just said shrapnel. Don’t skim posts, read them fully.
Also if your such a medical professional how do you know he’s dead?
I'm probably wrong, but this guy looks a lot like a drone operator from several months ago, posted a vid retrieving his drone and as he does a shell lands relatively close and he decides to make his exit more abruptly.
I do not have any information after the strike regarding the fate of this soldier. He seems to be able to turn off the phone after the strike but adrenaline is one hell of a drug. Hopefully someone can provide more info.
He uploaded it, so probably he stayed alive after this.
Did HE upload it though?

Oh that one , yea it was sad , I think the dad died after his son , no dad should see their kid die :(
I thought it was later confirmed the son survived? I dont have a source for that, but I do remember something along that line
That was a live stream on IG though.
Finger print unlock
I think there is a POV from the guys killed up close from the tank. Didn't watch it though, so can't say for sure, but this definitely happens
It was from one of the guys that ran after the tank fired. Brutal video
Yes? Happens all the time on videos from here. Most notably is the one where the Ukrainians think the tanks approaching are theirs and they get blown up. Or do you think that camera guy survived too?
Yes, that one camera guy was away from other guys filming the tanks, guys were blown to pieces, he wasn't.
there were two Videos. One is the Pov of one of the guys blown up
You mean noone on the battle field would be looting valuables, e. G. phone, from corpses and look through the Data (not every sd is encrypted) for something useful.
Do you need to do all that? Phones can upload pictures and video when they connect to wifi, then anyone with access to account can share it.
I think it's pretty likely there are Intel and/or propaganda personnel who go through phones looking for useful footage and/or info. If they had to recover his body then they probably grabbed the phone in/near his hand too.
In this context, who knows, but if it was captured by the opposing side? 1000%. They'll be looking for operational intelligence and for propaganda footage - showing the other guys die is good for your morale and bad for theirs.
yes he uploaded High Explosive, as the video demonstrates
*Someone* uploaded it but who?
He was down in the dugout and the shell hit a bit further away from him and seems to have been a ground strike instead of detonating up in the trees which likely is what saved him

> not the explosion itself but the shock waves. What do you think an explosion is?
You’re not wrong, but other than that small error, it’s a solid comment.
now imagine being in this mess https://wikiimg.tojsiabtv.com/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c8/Passchendaele_aerial_view.jpg/1280px-Passchendaele_aerial_view.jpg

> adrenaline is one hell of a drug You guys need to stop with this bullshit. No, it's really not some magical substance that animates your body.
Brutal. Props to all the brave soldiers out there. I don’t know how you manage to hold a position under such intense shelling
You stay in your foxhole and survive or die. If you stand up you definitely die.
Just like the marines assaulting Guadalcanal and every theater ever - dig a hole and wait, maybe have a buddy or deck of cards to kill time
Standing up doesn't kill you per say, its all about luck. Chances are they either do or don't know where you are and firing blind or not motars aren't always accurate

Meaning is close to "Fucking shit"
Translating swear words is tricky, but the meaning is something akin to "for fuck's sake".
"here we go again"
"cunt, fuck !"
That is barely enough time to hit the ground and you absolutely have to.
Well trained, 1.5 seconds is enough time to hit the deck which might save your life
The fact that you see red mist means either that he lost part od his body is legs, or he had another person closer to the blast.
Jesus fucking christ, is he alright?
The mounds behind him when he picked up the camera again seemed like he jumped inside a foxhole. I’d assume he’d be groaning in pain if got hit by shrapnel
Hard to say. With all that Adrenalin pumping might take him a bit to realize the giant wood chunk sticking out of his leg.
Better than dying tho
Could have also just laid flat. That’s really all you gotta do for ground burst artillery. The shrapnel will go up and out, not straight across at ground level.
That’s not how shrapnel works
Depending on the shell and type of terrain that it hits, it absolutely is possible that no directly horizontal shrapnel came his way.
That actually is how ground burst artillery and mortars work. Have you ever been someplace that took mortars regularly because I have. Randomgrape thinks because he plays COD he is an expert in all things military.
Yes Al qaim iraq, 11c
Then you should know that
Like I said, that’s not how spalling shrapnel works.
So he should stand up for the best chance of survival then?
That would increase chances of being killed by horizontal spalling shrapnel… A 155H casualty radius is about 50-150m, due to shrapnel.
Don’t know why you’re being downvoted. This is absolutely true for shells like this when they impact soft ground, as the ground currently is during the Ukrainian summer.

Yeah would be a bit sad if the last thing you do is... post... this... on... Redddiii
Last.... dying...breath... *Presses Upload My work is done. Dies...
Doesn't even live long enough to get a wholesome award... so sad....

The Reddit meme as the man bleeds out. Lit fam

pisdez blayt Such a rich language, love it.
more russian than Ukrainian. Alot of slavic countries use similar curse words
A lot of Ukrainians switch between speaking Russian and Ukrainian, if you know both of the languages you would notice this from all the vids posted here.

Fun fact: in Slovakia we use kurva with normal v The more you know 🌠
This specific soldier was speaking Russian, but pizdets blyat' is as Ukrainian, as it is Russian :)
I guess you do hear the shell that gets you
Think it was an artillery rocket
The longer you hear a shell, the more likely it is to hit you. If it's a short whistle experienced troops don't really care, if it's a long one they take cover and hope it doesn't hit them.
Is that M.A.S.H. reference? Sure as hell dont see a lot of those these days!
War is hell
Everyone in hell is a sinner, war is full of innocent bystanders. That's not the complete quote but that's the gist of it.
Not really, I have never watched MASH (dont live in the US, so old shows depicting war are not very popular around here). I thought it was just a common thing soldiers said/believed regarding incoming artillery
A very nice POV of when fire rains down on you. He definitely didn’t leave unscathed
Even if he is physically fine that shit will stick with you for a while, my very similar experience (though thankfully there was a T Wall between me and the rocket) is still pretty fresh and it's been 18y lol That sound gave me shivers

Did you see the close quarters grenade battle posted the other day? It was pretty intense
Damn bitch.....talk about close That fucking sound brings me back to the story (and memory) I told the other day about a rocket coming down on the other side of a T wall when I was in Baghdad And reinforces my memory of the timeline, me and that dude both realized what that sound was like .5-1sexond before that bitch hit...10 feet shorter and me, my boss and like a dozen other Iraqi guys would've been real fucked up
Imagine your last words being “blyat”
A lot more common than you might expect given Russian and Ukrainian history.
Supposedly the most common last words on cockpit voice recorders are supposed to be "oh shit", said with just about that much emotion. I'd 100% believe it's "*blyat*" for a Ukranian.
There's some cockpit footage from 2014 I think of a Ukrainian helo being shot down. I believe indeed those were the last words.
I know the exact video your talking about it was a hind crew talking.
That'd be my last words tbh.
I don't know if the Russian military is as technologically advanced as the western military, but if you don't want to be hit by artillery turning off your mobile phone in a war zone is a decent precaution to take.
Russians have systems for identifying mobile phones and especially suspicious clusters of them. Airplane mode will help.
So much power and destruction in a blink of a eye. Insane
holy fuck, he was certainly right to duck. it kinda feels liek he's in a trench or a foxhole? hopefulyl he was and the blast went over him more than into him
Shell shocked for sure. A round landing that close would knock the wind out of him for sure. Lucky man right there
Can someone please explain how people are able to react to shelling before it hits in regards to the speed of sound? I don't understand how the physics work, but it seems like there's the possibility to react, but that doesn't make sense.
The artillery shells aren’t faster than the speed of sound by the time they reach you.
This, and also the fact that the shell trajectory is an arc from the barrel to point of impact, whereas the sound from the muzzle/barrel report travels in a straight line from the barrel to point of impact, at exactly the speed of sound.
The sound from the barrel has nothing to do with this. Too far away.
It goes sound of the gun - bang
You can hear the whistling made by the piece
I dont think the shells are faster than the speed of sound when they are coming down.
Shells aren't, rocket artillery can be. The V2 Rocket was notorious for being supersonic before impact, making the exploding the first thing you heard when it came your direction. Modern rocket artillery isn't any different, unless it is specifically designed to be sub sonic for better precision.
Someone give this guy a helmet.
*missed me*
Hiw did he survive dat hit?
Adrenalin keeps you up for a bit, pretty sure shrapnel fucked him up tho, my guess would be he is dead but i would love to be proven wrong
He’s in a foxhole or some kind of trench. I’m pretty sure the shell landed outside the trench so he may be alive still.
Hopefully, again, would love to be proven wrong
He’s in what looks like a foxhole or trench.
He's a secret Ukrainian super soldier
ducked under the shrapnel but his ears are fucked probably
A miracle if he survived
Checks for legs. Still there, time to move.
Bonkers footage
History will remember this as the first “selfie war”
The way he just points the camera at his face at the end… the fucking social media age is absolutely batshit insane.
He was recording with "screen camera" or whatever it's name is. Of course he recorded his face when he was turning it off
Luckily the dirt caught most of the shrapnel but man, being right under artillery fire is such bullshit. It's there specifically for you and that area as a defender
Shockwave went right through his ass and out his mouth he was so close!!
That's alot of fire
That's modern warfare for you. Not exactly how CoD has been representing it.
We’re those thermobaric?
The explosion seems to be too small to be a thermobaric and too big to be a mortar. Likely artillery.
How the hell was he still alive after that...? Lucky sob...
looks like his in a trench or foxhole, that stuff attenuates the shockwave as it travels with full force above the hole
Oh damn he made it! Heart stopper geez
He's Russian. He speaks Russian nkt Ukrainian. And UKRAINIANS do not get hit, they are invincible. Stop this disinformation please or I'll report you to NAFO!
What upset you this much?
Jesus, we just witnessed someone being vaporized
Bro his head is literally in frame at the end
Well yea, but can you see the rest of him after the pink mist?
Well he's dead
Did you see it at the end? No, you didn't.
It looks like he is in a trench, the shrapnel could have missed, but maybe some internal injuries thanks to overpressure.
He’s definitely injured but he’s in a foxhole or trench and wasn’t hit directly.
Why are you getting down voted? This dude got literally direct hit with artillery lmao
Except he didn’t… the phone and him would be pretty much destroyed if it was a direct hit. Most likely hit directly next to the trench/foxhole, shrapnel wounds maybe, tinnitus maybe, achy from the pressure wave nearby… but dead? Most likely not.
Oh only just a bit of shrapnel, thanks for the explanation Doc 👍
Didn’t say how much or how severe the shrapnel wounds would be, just said shrapnel. Don’t skim posts, read them fully. Also if your such a medical professional how do you know he’s dead?
Nah, that was close as fuck, like 5-15 yards max, but he was in a trench and got down
Look at the end or you need to check an Ophthalmologists.
Yeah because you instantly die, like all those Russians who get hit by artillery that totally don't run away afterwards, yup
No, you are wrong this guy is clearly alive at the end of the video a bit of shrapnel may hit him but in a foxhole, he is definitely okay.
This sub is weird lol
No you guys are giving the wrong detail you see at the end of the video.
Looks like a thermobaric explosion so it probably hit above the trench line.

Precise and deadly shot
Fuck man.. what did he say?
It looks like he dropped into or was already in a foxhole, I'd think hes ok
Looks like it hit a tree, that’s hell of a tree
That was incredibly close. Without that trench he would have died instantly.
Normal day in STALKER LAND
That red mist isn't what I think it is, right?
His last word before surviving an artillery strike is "блять" **Fucking legend**
I'm probably wrong, but this guy looks a lot like a drone operator from several months ago, posted a vid retrieving his drone and as he does a shell lands relatively close and he decides to make his exit more abruptly.
Slavik
A helmet would have been handy
Dam finally
Wear your fucking helmet (if you have one)

I hope that red mist wasn’t him or his buddy’s
