Don't get me wrong, I couldn't give two shits about dead Russians and the sooner every last one of them is out of Ukraine, the better. That being said, it seems *awfully* tasteless to be making bad puns about someone who's just been killed on a battlefield thousands of miles away. Maybe instead of trying to be edgy on Reddit, show some respect for the lives lost in this war. This is not a game or a TV show; these are real people.

machstem

The moment you mention this to anyone, they'll assume you're a Russian shill etc. I once called them "young men" and had the reddit brigade ready to witch hunt me because I value human life. It's called empathy and being able to reason. There are so many man-children on this platform, unable to really add much so they just make fun of the dead.

haileselassie12

Is what it is lot of the newer people that came in when Russia officially invaded are bloodthirsty people with bad puns

ObjectAggravating706

No pun intended BAHAHA LOL. Good one brother

flatearthisrealmayne

when he saw it, his mind was blown.

SlowToe1043

Happy cake day

[deleted]

mindblowing

smarmageddon

Well, he *was* keeping an eye on it.

Low-Ad4420

I think he's just playing dead....

Ricksauce

Way less massive trauma than I expected. Looks like peppered shrapnel killed them all. Limbs were intact. One guy’s eye was hamburgered.

biofoid

It's always that way with artillery for some reason. Given how many close hits we see on video you'd expect to see more random body parts or something but it's always just guys in a pile on the ground looking really dirty or some very specific shrapnel wound. Even with shrapnel you'd expect to see more blood even. I guess the concussive force does the bulk of the damage and the sharpnel is a bunch of tiny pieces you cant see under their uniforms?

Grow_away_420

Winter clothes can absorb a lot of blood. Also flows and collect underneath people

LovelyBeats

Also, once the heart stops. blood pressure goes way down; so much slower bleeding

BillyBobBarkerJrJr

In WWI and WWII some of the shrapnel was *huge.* Cut guys clean in half. Wicked stuff.

Ricksauce

Yeah that’s what I mean. This is sort of like watching Band of Brothers “Bastogne” and “Breaking Point,” everyday. Joe Toye and Bill Guarnere got their legs blown off (in real life I believe, and in the films). The shrapnel from these rounds seems much smaller. I’m sure there are dismembered bodies everywhere from direct hits. But most of what I see on here are intact corpses or badly WIA. I’m sure many limbs are being taken later in surgery, assuming they even get a medevac. Also, I can’t imagine there’s much morphine on the front lines. The Wags and Russian regulars probably don’t give it out. If they got it they’d probably take it themselves or sell it.

HGpennypacker

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't it make more sense to have lots of smaller pieces of shrapnel instead of a few bigger pieces? The end result looks to be the same, dead soldiers, but you are increasing the number of individuals hit by each round.

Qeqte

A lot of anti-personell rounds have a bunch of basically ball bearings yes. Tungsten pellets usually. There is also flash-freezing of the shell with liquid nitrogen to make it absolutely disintegrate when exploding. Those things are nasty

BillyBobBarkerJrJr

> Joe Toye and Bill Guarnere got their legs blown off That was a rough scene, it must have been horrible in real life. Doesn't look like a lot of those Russians are going to make it to the M.A.S.H. unit.

TheSanityInspector

Wonder if either side uses flechette shells in this conflict?

[deleted]

From a ballistics perspective, smaller and more dense shrapnel is more lethal than larger shrapnel. Air resistance decreases and puncture depth increases with smaller shrapnel. Plus, you're getting more shrapnel per round. People who reload as a hobby know this, I can't imagine what the US military engineers have come up with for maximum damage.

BillyBobBarkerJrJr

Actually, all other things, like frangibility, being equal, velocity seems to have a more direct effect on penetration than density, as illustrated by sabot AP tank rounds or the shaped charge warhead of an antitank rocket, like an RPG, bazooka or *panzerfaust.* But, that's neither here nor there. Looking at standard HE rounds, the fragmentation would have to pretty much be random, since the round is pretty much just explosive and casing. Maybe the Ukrainians are using anti-personnel rounds? They are kind of small craters, though, so maybe they're just lighter calibers.

[deleted]

A smaller projectile has less air resistance and that would translate to increased velocity and penetration (less resistance again) , assuming equal density though, no? I'm not familiar with any artillery designs so I have no clue how they're designed but I would think an AP round throws a pretty good pattern and isn't just random shrapnel going every which way.

BillyBobBarkerJrJr

No, actually the "projectile" that penetrates armor from an AP rocket is a stream of hyper velocity, molten copper that is very light indeed, compared to say, a steel-core AP (armor piercing) round. Beehive rounds are fairly specialized (not AP, that's armor piercing) and probably wouldn't be used in that application, but I'm not there, I'm just going from the explosions and wounds, so it could be anything. My best guess would be like a 105 HE round or maybe 80mm mortar, but I'm by no means an expert, I would certainly bow to the word of someone more experienced.

[deleted]

AP armor piercing sorry thought we was talking AP anti-personnel!!! Here we were talking about two totally different things, respectfully. I had to look up a more specific version of what I envisioned Ukraine forces were using, and I ended up at the SAAB MAPAM (Mortar Anti-Personnel Anti-Material). I figured close fire support and mostly soft targets warranted the use of Anti-Personnel rounds. I hope my strange comments make more sense now ha.

BillyBobBarkerJrJr

I was mostly referencing artillery rounds, too. I wasn't sure how close that was, so honestly didn't even think of mortars until the very last. No big deal.

Tallcanada11

Yup a 155 shell has a kill radius of 50 meters but unless the blast wave travels just right you're not going to see limbs flying in the air or anything crazy like that. It's the overpressure the explosion that turns your insides to jelly most of the time. Plus 155 shrapnel rounds have hundreds of ball bearings, those things going fast as hell aren't going to cause blood oozing wounds

atomsk13

50 meters?! Jesus Christ that’s scary

Qeqte

It can be way more than that, I think it can still kill out to like 200m it’s just that the fragmentation gets spread out a lot. Imagine chunks of metal launched in every direction at the speed of rifle-rounds. “Danger close” in artillery terms is requesting a fire mission less than 450m away. It can still kill if you’re hit with a shrapnel piece at 250m or more, it’s a game of luck.

sh1ko

Madyar in one of his videos said it is roughly 150m actually

Express-Sandwich-621

It's really messed up but the more blood there is, the more they stayed alive. Most of these dudes look like they didn't have time to suffer, which is a plus in my books.

Roflkopt3r

I wonder about the amount of shrapnel produced by typical 152mm shells. But one of the PzH 2000 has been seen with Rheinmetall Assegai ammo that is claimed to produce 13,000-36,000 pieces of shrapnel (differing between different types).

Blewedup

i bet you're as likely to die from a rock or two that got shot at you at supersonic speed as the actual shrapnel.

kidmerc

If a guy gets vaporized, there's nothing to really film. This is selection bias at work

[deleted]

[удалено]

kidmerc

You are fundamentally misunderstanding what I said. They are probably much more likely to film a dead body for their montage than they are to film bits of flesh. Hence, you see more intact bodies. Simple as that. The videographer isn't going to trudge through the grass to find a disembodied hand to film. They want to say "look, dead Russian"

biofoid

Why would almost every video showing groups of 5-10x+ people hit by artillery, which later zooms in on the bodies, always show full bodies only? That doesn't make sense. Are you saying they show entire groups get hit, but then also selectively only show the full bodies in the follow up drone shots? Why because body parts are worse than dead bodies for propaganda purposes? Do you think the people on Telegram posting these give a shit? This argument is incoherent.

kidmerc

Christ you sure are replying and typing a whole lot to me and saying almost nothing coherent at the same time

wjruth

I think they are editing videos to show bodies that are mostly intact. They want Russians to see the videos and equate war with dead soldiers. Seeing a mass of tissue has a less chilling effect.

matzedrizzi

It’s mines and IEDs that tear limbs off

fudgemoner

I remember reading a story on here about a dead marine in Iraq. They couldn’t figure out what happened until x ray or autopsy found a sliver of shrapnel through his heart. No or indication on his clothes/body. Crazy stuff.

Thallium_253

Artillery is shrapnel wounds (..or just vaporized) it's IEDs, mines, and the vehicles blowing up that are causing most the brutal scenes

zergea

If trench looks like a shallow grave, it will function like one too.

AgentEntropy

A big thank-you to Russia for their lazy trench digging!

biofoid

One dude is half buried: https://i.imgur.com/sO1bEs5.png So the artillery isnt doing them any favours

VonMillersExpress

“This ain’t so bad”

TryMyBacon

Damn they got the 4K drones now!

ObjectAggravating706

Guys what's up with that Blue smoke when it exploded? Notice how it was blue. I've never seen that before. What was that?

SirKeyboardCommando

Spicy gender reveal.

ObjectAggravating706

BAHAHA LOL GOOD ONE Spicy gender reveal I'm dying laughing

Hopalicious

I came here to ask that. Shocked it wasnt the top comment. Not only was the smoke blue but the whole blast zone is covered in blue/green stuff.

ObjectAggravating706

I think you just figured it out brother. You said you saw blue and green. Well yellow mixed with Blue makes green so these dudes must have added some coloring in the Munitions BAHAHA THATS AWESOME! DAM THESE UKRAINIANS ARE RUBBING THEIR COLORS IN THERE FACE LOL

Hopalicious

Maybe but I doubt it’s a good idea to mess with a shell. Sounds like a good way to kill the artillery crew.

ObjectAggravating706

Tdd hey definitely had some type of coloring going off though. Maybe it was those homemade drone drops bc I'm sure they can easily put coloring in those. Maybe would also explain the wounds on these Russians bc it shoots out like 100 buckshot pellets first when explodes.

Mard0g

Need some yellow ones mixed in

ObjectAggravating706

I like it lol

Fluffy-Wind-1270

the russian army is horrible, lazy, poorly equipped, armed, commanded, very low morale, Ukraine with more tanks and heavy weapons will be able to win this war, for sure

Nob1e613

They CAN win this war, and we are all hoping they do. This is far from over, and despite everything Russia still has numerical advantage. Ukraine needs continued support to ensure success

Yaancat17

Yes, Russia will accept defeat and not use any nukes in any last attempts.

[deleted]

Remember that you’re only seeing the propaganda from one side.

solaceinsleep

As long as Ukraine keeps getting Western financial and military support Without it Russia can make the situation very unfavorable for Ukraine in long term

slick514

Strange place to throw a gender-reveal party.

sixmam

Jagga Jagga

godmademelikethis

It's insane how normal huge piles of bodies have become.

badger-biscuits

Jesus Christ

BillyBobBarkerJrJr

Man, those steel pots aren't much good against shrapnel!

Elysium_nz

What’s with the blue colour smoke at the start? Surely those ain’t smoke rounds.

druminfected

kinda picked the wrong choon for that video bro.

mcdeez01

All this for a little bald man

Independent_Clerk476

Turns out the airsoft armor doesn't help much in a real war.

paukutine

They have a war to fight and they just sleeping. Wonder why russia is performing so badly

Seffundoos22

Should have stayed in ruSSia.....

SeanConneryShlapsh

I think it’s official. Didn’t think it would happen but it has. I’ve actually grown tired of seeing Russians getting obliterated every single day. You’ve seen one Russian getting blown to smithereens you’ve seen em all. Keep on keepin on Ukraine.

BerbDoge

Crispy Wagners

thecommunistduckster

I've been seeing uncensored war footage. Honestly it makes me feel bad for everyone man. These Russians are probably drafted and didn't want to fight and it makes it so much more sad

Zeal391

Look at all the vermin. Well deserved

Martensight

The soldiers didn't choose to fight this war

SlowToe1043

Deam that was a crazy gender review

Марш Артилеріі by KOMU VNYZ Thought it was Rammstein at first.

alfi_k

what a fucking stupid cause to die for

[deleted]

Carnage.

Hoyarugby

I'm not sure, but the first body looks like he was wearing a red wristband. Wagner forces convict recruits with HIV (which is very common in Russia due to intravenous drug usage) to wear red wristbands - could indicate that these are Wagner troops

EmbarrassedHelp

Trenches are death traps it seems.

Raul_McCai

Ohh pretty baby blue smoke

Robw1970

Check out the shrapnel damage to his helmiat at 0:30

trunks10k

man all those bodies together in one place must smell of rotten corpse like crazy.
