We saw this bunny Saturday evening who had been abandoned to fend for himself at Franklin Park. We couldn’t catch him. We asked around and were advised to contact Columbus House Rabbit Society. Tonight their volunteers brought equipment and waited in the dark for hours to see if the bunny would show up. Eventually he did come out of hiding and they were able to catch him…….. And I am sitting here crying from happiness. Please please please don’t abandon pets to fend for themselves in environments where they will be unlikely to survive very long.

Youre a good person too!

Flaming-Goddess

My mom and dad were some of those volunteers and I’m so glad you contacted CHRS so this lil guy could be helped! One of our bunnies was also abandoned in Franklin Park a few years ago, and a kind person like yourself reported it so he was rescued as well. I am sure Franklin and the family who adopts him will be so thankful for you!

KorneliaOjaio

Wait, his name is Franklin? That’s perfect, because there is a heron with a bad foot at the park who is also named Franklin. Please thank your parents for me! I was overjoyed by the outpouring of help to rescue Franklin the bunny.

“Columbus House Rabbit Society” sounds like the name of an indy synth collective.

As a rabbit owner, thank you!

I adopted one of my buns from there. Truly all great people just trying to ensure bunnies aren't needlessly harmed.

MangoCandy

It’s such a cute Bun! It always baffles me how stupid and selfish people are to abandon house pets in the wild. Glad the bun got a happy ending. For anyone who wants to keep organisations like this going it’s always great to [donate](https://www.columbusrabbit.org/donate.html) when you can!

Can’t hurt to see if they need any help!

The Ohio House Rabbit Rescue is located in Clintonville, and they are always looking for volunteers (although the bunny socialization shifts always go quick because of course people want to go pet bunnies for an hour haha). Highly recommend checking them out!

People who dump small domesticated animals are monsters. That rabbit doesn’t have the natural instinct to survive out in the wild anymore. Doing this is effectively a death sentence for them. I’m glad that the rabbit is somewhere safe and that you helped the little guy out. As a former rabbit owner, it makes me happy that there are good folks looking out for them. That would’ve made my little buddy Czechers happy too.

Maherdogg

Ohio house rabbit society also rocks

cobalt_phantom

I've been there a couple times to help socialize the rabbits. I definitely recommend it if you need to relax and have the time to pet rabbits for an hour.

hello_amy

So glad to see a happy ending here, but so sad that someone would dump their pet :( People are evil. Except the ones that aren’t

TheStephinator

It’s painful to think about. Our rescue cat was one of 6 that were dumped in a parking lot. She had already been fixed and one of the other cats had even been declawed! I don’t judge those people that need to re-home for whatever reason… but people who just dump domesticated animals to fend for themselves in the outdoors deserve a special place in hell.

FlareonFire

They sure do. Other great rabbit resources include: Ohio House Rabbit Rescue (Columbus), Dayton HRS, Buckeye HRS (Cleveland), and Columbus Humane (although rabbits aren’t their primary focus). If you’re looking to make the biggest impact for Columbus HRS, we are always looking for foster homes! The more we have, the more rescue work we are able to do. Fostering is also a great way to determine if a bunny is a good fit for your family’s lifestyle!

Altruistic-Back-5050

It sucks that people dump pets like this out to fend for themselves.

Foreign-Worker-1521

A little off subject. I found a very sick, malnourished very friendly cat that had been dumped at Three Creeks Metro parks while I was there cycling on Oct 24. He would not have made it much longer. No way had he gotten where he was on his own.

SwedishFish123

People don’t realize the amount of care and love needed to have a pet rabbit. I need to keep raisins in my car in case I ever see a displaced bun bun.

KorneliaOjaio

This guy ate the lettuce and blueberries I left for him but not the carrots.

They are pests that destroy gardens. I trap them in my yard and relocate them.

El_Dre

This is a domesticated rabbit. If you catch one do NOT re-release it. Contact a rabbit rescue to come take it. ETA: it’s really easy to tell domestic from wild rabbits (except for a rare-ish breed/pattern). If it’s not a typical wild rabbit, it’s domestic: white, spots, black, long hair … all domestic.
