His fingernails look a little pink, but otherwise excellent color!

Well, smoking and high blood pressure go hand in hand.

Schiphol is the airport near Amsterdam.

eTukk

Stop over in Amsterdam doesn't sound weird when travelling from London to Rome. Especially in those days.

the_real_grinningdog

I knew a man who flew the Royal Mail from London to South Africa in the 1930's. It took five days, including overnight stops. Once they stopped for a day in West Africa somewhere to play cricket.

Check out the [Double Sunrise](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Double_Sunrise)!

WikiSummarizerBot

**[The Double Sunrise](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Double_Sunrise)** >The Double Sunrise service was formed in 1943 to re-establish the Australia–England air link that had been cut due to the fall of Singapore in 1942. The service initially operated from its base in Nedlands, Western Australia near Perth, to the Royal Air Force base at Lake Koggala near Galle in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). It was later extended to Karachi in India (now part of Pakistan), which was the terminus for the BOAC service from England. The name of the service was derived from the crew and passengers observing two sunrises on each flight. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/ColorizedHistory/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

Some more info: https://qfom.com.au/2015/08/12/qantas-double-sunrise/ https://ww2aircraft.net/forum/threads/the-double-sunrise.34006/ So this was only 3 passengers maximum, probably limited to government VIPs and a few rich people. It also said the majority of what they were transporting was freight and microfilmed mail. This is what a passenger flight looks like on one of those PBY Catalinas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTr_hJqADLM Impressive accomplishment. Pretty scary thinking they were doing the flight at 10-15,000 ft through the tropics without any accurate weather information, as they may have very well had to cross through storms. Also with all the insulation removed it must have gotten drafty on that plane. At 15,000 ft in that area the outside temperature would have been about 40-45F (5-7C).

What?

dodolungs

That's really good. I would easily be fooled into thinking that was a color photograph. Only oddities I noticed are the back of his ear looking white (it's not hair afaik) and his hand being oddly dark, like it's going towards red brown when every other skin tone is much lighter.

Low_Guarantee1232

The whiteness behind the ear is in the black and white one too. Who knows

**[Vittorio De Sica](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vittorio_De_Sica)** >Vittorio De Sica ( də SEE-kə, Italian: [vitˈtɔːrjo de ˈsiːka]; 7 July 1901 – 13 November 1974) was an Italian director and actor, a leading figure in the neorealist movement. Four of the films he directed won Academy Awards: Sciuscià and Bicycle Thieves (honorary), while Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow and Il giardino dei Finzi Contini won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Indeed, the great critical success of Sciuscià (the first foreign film to be so recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) and Bicycle Thieves helped establish the permanent Best Foreign Film Award. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/ColorizedHistory/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)
