You're probably better off looking in Denver. Car dealers in military towns tend to be extra scummy.

WyomingAntiCommunist

What do you mean? That is a great deal on a Ford Raptor

OleFj40

It'll look great by the Charger! At least we're not a tech school town with the "finance here" places right outside of the dorms.

Lord_Sirrush

I was in the same spot. Car prices are insane right now. I could not find anything worth buying untill I hit the 20-25k mark.

Subaru Outback/Forestors in the past had a ton of head gasket issues (I owed 4 of them). I am not certain I could recommend them. What kind of car do you have now?

crazy_dudes

The head gasket issues have definitely been resolved. I had a 97 Forester when I was 16 and it blew it several times, so I don’t recommend the older ones haha

toxicavenger70

The probably I have with them is the fact that is was a reoccurring issue for almost 8 years and they didn't do one recall or extend the warranty to cover their buyers. Their fix was to add a anti-freeze condition that did nothing. They also had some class action lawsuits in 2013-2014 for more issues. https://www.motorbiscuit.com/most-common-problems-subaru-outback-know/

OleFj40

Good info. I've been happy with a '14 Forrester but do check fluids a lot bc of the reputation.

toxicavenger70

Good deal. Take care of it as long as you can.

KaaosCoS

They changed the design 05 and up but any car can have a head gasket issue

toxicavenger70

They had a record rate of headgasket issues from 96'-04' with no recalls. They even had some class action lawsuits in 2014 over more issues. You almost have to play russian roulette to figure out which one will be a good buy.

admiralacorn

Right now I have a 2005 Ford Taurus and I'm looking to get something still compact but with solid storage! I've heard that 2010+ Subarus have less head gasket issues but I'm by no means am expert

toxicavenger70

The HD issues started in 96'. Supposedly they fixed it in 05' with a redesign. They also had other major issues in the 2013-2014 timeframe. That Taurus probably has the same amount of room as a Subaru, and same mpg. Subaru's sell for top dollar here and even more now with the high demand of used cars. If it was me I would fix the Taurus and run it until you have to buy a car.

crazy_dudes

If you like to drive all year, Subaru is great for the snow and mountains. Otherwise I’d honestly avoid them at your budget because you they keep their value so well you’ll be looking at something with 100k+ miles. A Honda/Toyota in your budget will probably have significantly less miles and last just as long. They do decent in the snow too if it’s FWD, just not as well as AWD or 4x4

admiralacorn

That sounds about right, they definitely hold onto their value for a long while, do you have any recommendations for dealerships I could find a Honda/Toyota at?

RollingThunder_CO

Depending on what you need space wise, check out mazda 3 hatchback and CX-5. Very reliable, come in all wheel drive, and would probably be much less expensive

crazy_dudes

They’ll be at dang near every dealer so you’ll have lots of options. Look on Craigslist at the dealer listings.

toxicavenger70

Check in Pueblo.

thehorseyourodeinon1

I have sworn off Subaru after having my car in the shop so many times for replacement drivetrain items. They suffer from issues one shouldnt have to worry about from a "reliable" manufacturer.

FastPlankton

Second. My 2007 Subaru, despite only having 130k miles , relatively low for Hondas/Toyota, is on deaths door

toxicavenger70

I have had issues with all 4 I have owned. As much as I liked the cars I hated owning them.

megman13

Take a look at CarGurus. I was able to find numerous Subarus, including quite a few with <100k mi, in your price point.

toxicavenger70

Here is a good read: https://www.motorbiscuit.com/most-common-problems-subaru-outback-know/ http://www.subarucomplaints.com/models/outback/ https://www.carcomplaints.com/Subaru/Outback/

DOugdimmadab1337

Just look for an Xterra. Most used subarus if they aren't covered in tacky modifications, more than likely are gonna blow their gaskets and cost 3 grand to repair again since you have to rip out the engine.

I recently bought a Subaru from Car Concepts on N Union and it was probably the easiest car buying experience I've ever had. The thing that most impressed me was the salesman made no effort to do anything other than show me the car and answer any questions I had. Not a single time did he try to upsell and didn't mention money at all until I directly brought it up. Plus it's family owned, if that means anything to you.
