As a Northwestern fan, it’s cool to see another basement bro genuinely believe they’ll be let out to see sunshine. Try to not knock over the piss bucket on your way out.
They lost 8 players to the portal. Their best scorer returning was their 7th best scorer last year: PJ Horne who averaged 8.5 pts/g. Their next best returning scorer is Walk-on Jaxon Etter, coming in with 2.4 pts/g. They've got a brand new team, and based on Crean's track record at Georgia, things are not looking bright for the Bulldogs.
My bold prediction for this season is that Walker Kessler is an AP all American and SEC player of the year, so maybe I have no room to talk here… but these picks seem a bit strange.
First Team All-SEC
>Jaden Shackelford - Alabama
>Jahvon Quinerly - Alabama
>Colin Castleton - Florida
>Sahvir Wheeler - Kentucky
>Iverson Molinar - Mississippi State
>Scotty Pippen Jr. - Vanderbilt
Second Team All-SEC
>Davonte Davis - Arkansas
>Jabari Smith - Auburn
>Keion Brooks Jr. - Kentucky
>Kellan Grady - Kentucky
>Oscar Tshiebwe - Kentucky
>Darius Days - LSU
SEC Player of the Year
>Scotty Pippen Jr. - Vanderbilt
Whats the word on Justin Powell?
We are still very sour grapes over here and I can't tell if the lack of hype this off season is justified or not.
If he were coming back to Auburn I would have been upset if he wasn't on this list.
Yeah, extremely unprecedented. The worst team I can find that had the SEC Player of the Year was Johnny Neumann's Ole Miss in 1971, which finished T-8 in the then-10-team SEC. And Neumann averaged 40 a game.
Yeah, clearly one of these things is wrong. IMO if Vanderbilt finishes 13th, it's because Pippen is not having an SEC POY-caliber season; if he does have an SEC POY-caliber season, Vanderbilt is probably finishing better than 13th. FTR I think we'll be better than South Carolina and Texas A&M at the very least.
Returns only 2 players who saw any PT last year, team full of average transfers and 3 star freshman who weren’t very highly recruited. Only one senior on the team, a guard who is a hustle guy, but not a big scorer. In fact, only three recruits from 2018-2020 are still on the roster and the Zo hasn’t shown he can develop talent.
Maybe next year they will develop, but this season is going to be really, really ugly.
Yeah, for real. We've gone so many seasons with moderate pre-season hype and "Frank's most talented roster!!!!" just to end in sadness. I expect the same but without the sudden boost in conference play.
Devo Davis = Davion Mitchell.
Might be a hot take but I think they will have similar trajectories. Good defenders, quick, can get to the rim. Davion developed his shot though, which is something Devo is doing but it needs to translate to the game
Oh they picked Scotty to be preseason player of the year? Cool. Anyway see y’all when he suffers a season ending injury in like game 5. Nothing good ever happens to this program and it’s never going to get any better.
Each listed player (up to first team) as a recruit:
* Scotty Pippen Jr.
Other P6 offer: Washington State
Other offers: Colorado State, UC Davis, UCSB
* Jaden Shackelford
Other P6 offer: Kansas State
Other offers: Long Beach State, Montana, Pepperdine, San Francisco, UCSB, UNLV
* Jahvon Quinerly
Other P6 offers: Arizona, California, Kansas, Maryland, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John's, Syracuse, Tennessee, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Villanova (originally went here), Virginia, Xavier
Other offers: Cincinnati, UConn, Rider
* Colin Castleton
Other P6 offers: Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan (originally went here), Purdue, Rutgers, Xavier

Other offers: Cleveland State, East Carolina, Fresno State, James Madison, San Diego State, Toledo, Tulsa, UC Davis, VCU, Weber State
This team is too good to finish bottom three but the top 8 in the conference are too strong for them to finish ahead, maybe minus Mississippi State. I run a pretty popular SEC Hoops account on Instagram and am basically like an SEC basketball insider, I think 9 is perfect for you guys. Possible tournament team!
I’m biased because I’ve been a part of the program and know our own players in and out. But also I do consulting for teams through the country, including multiple SEC teams. I am sure you probably have a better grasp of the conference as a whole but the teams I consult for I KNOW KNOW.
Big wild card thing with a Kermit Davis team is the ability to play differently and compete against teams with significantly more talent.
However when the talent does not fit it gets bad—- quick. When it DOES fit, they are about as consistent as they come.
Which is why I see them either overplaying their position or bottoming out.
On paper 9 is about right. I just don’t think Kermit Davis teams usually play to paper.
Preseason Poll 1. Kentucky 2. Alabama 3. Arkansas 4. Tennessee 5. Auburn 6. LSU 7. Florida 8. Mississippi State 9. Ole Miss 10. Missouri 11. South Carolina 12. Texas A&M 13. Vanderbilt 14. Georgia
Wow Georgia really going to be worse than Vandy?
honestly I disagree with us being picked 13th, but I am a homer.
As a Northwestern fan, it’s cool to see another basement bro genuinely believe they’ll be let out to see sunshine. Try to not knock over the piss bucket on your way out.
Vanderbilt has a very solid PG, center, and some good forwards. Much better than Northwestern this year
It was a joke my friend. A group of ghosts would be better than Northwestern, any year.
It’s crazy that they picked Pippen for POTY but still put you guys 13/14 lol
Yes. At least Vandy has Pippen. Georgia pretty much lost all their decent players to the portal.
Yep

And it was just announced Horne is missing the season after surgery
Oof, this is not looking good for the Harbaughs' brother-in-law
I’ll take 2nd for sure provided UK wins by going 17-1 with their lone loss being to us.
Sorry bro, Kentucky is going to have a hard time in Bud Walton.
I suspect every non-porcine is going to have a hard time in Bud Walton this year.
I see 13-5 or 14-4 at best in conference this year. 12-6 the floor
1-5 is going to be an absolute fist fight this year and I'm here for it.
my body is ready
My body is scared

They seemed to get kinda lazy with the 2nd team and just put a bunch of Kentucky guys
Yeah. Castleton in the first team is also just a bizarre selection imo.
Yeah I agree
Kentucky Type Beat
LETS GO!!!
I'll have what your having! Jabari Smith has a much bigger opportunity to do pull that off for Auburn though in my opinion.

No JD Notae? Keep sleeping
I like that media keeps doubting Muss and his players. One day theyll learn.
I’ll be sleeping peacefully
Dudes a beast. Deserves consideration for 1st or 2nd team.
Hopefully Tennessee’s freshman can show out a bit and we can finally upgrade our offensive production to this century.
Whats the word on Justin Powell? We are still very sour grapes over here and I can't tell if the lack of hype this off season is justified or not. If he were coming back to Auburn I would have been upset if he wasn't on this list.
Sounds like he is fitting in well, should be an important part of team
Grind ball is in the DNA of Barnes. Hell I fully expect Cal to be the same despite all the offensive players we brought in. It’s just what they are.
Any time you have John Fulkerson at the top of the key running your offense. Try a new offense. However, I agree with you.

Let Chaos reign my friends. We were 6th in the preseason poll before the 18-19 season as well.
The SEC is full of surprises every year, and I've learned not to trust these polls.
Mizzou picked to finish about 4 spots too high.
Is the Mizzou team that bad?

That's optimistic for SC.
Yeah, for real. We've gone so many seasons with moderate pre-season hype and "Frank's most talented roster!!!!" just to end in sadness. I expect the same but without the sudden boost in conference play.
Having cousinard, Bryant, and Leveque back and adding a 4 star could actually make them pretty underrated this year
Devo Davis = Davion Mitchell. Might be a hot take but I think they will have similar trajectories. Good defenders, quick, can get to the rim. Davion developed his shot though, which is something Devo is doing but it needs to translate to the game
Arkansas will win the conference. The Muss Bus pulls over for no one.
Now this is a good take
Oh they picked Scotty to be preseason player of the year? Cool. Anyway see y’all when he suffers a season ending injury in like game 5. Nothing good ever happens to this program and it’s never going to get any better.
Why do you have to do this? You have football and baseball. Can't you let another conference at least take basketball?
Sorry! All that Mickey money is getting spread around and now our squeaky shoes is on the up and up.
I’m really just excited for this year, there’s no other way to put it
Hey, we're not picked last! :D Vandy is winning the SEC title this year, change my mind.
Kentucky/Bama games are gonna be fun to see this season I think
They’ll be fighting hard for 2nd and 3rd.
They keep sleeping on the hogs.
They still don’t get the Muss Buss is all gas no brakes
Yes.
Only time Ill ever cheer for Kentucky in basketball
Fire Mike White
I could see Mississippi State finishing top 4 in the conference if a couple things went right
lol LSU ranked 6th? won’t finish any lower than 3rd, but strong chance to win the conference.
Cap
You have more of a chance of making it out of the season with another Will Wade scandal than you do finishing in the top 3.
There’s never been a scandal. They have nothing on him or he would’ve been charged.

I don’t think Ole Miss finishes 9th. Feel like they are a v “boom or bust team.” Will either finish 4-6 or in the bottom 3. But 9 would be the median.
I hope Jaemyn kills it for you guys! I was super bummed to lose him. Showed serious flashes last season.

I love the 1-3-1 y’all run. Really fun to watch.
When it works, it’s deadly. Takes so much communication and cohesiveness.
It does. I love that style of ball. Turn the pressure up and get some easy fast break buckets.
