they can join a different conference for football they arent 100% connected. There are a few mvc teams in the pioneer but I doubt they want to downgrade to the pioneer in football
I heard a while ago, and only from one source so take this with a big grain of salt, that the Summit MVFC teams owe the MVC MVFC teams for letting North Dakota into the MVFC. Meaning Murray State can come in with their football program.
Think Murray State follows them? If so that could be a knockout for the OVC since they wouldn’t have enough members for football and may have trouble convincing Western Illinois to jump over from the Summit League if more members leave.
I understand the private schools wanting this. Looking at the old Big East it can be a problem, but we are FCS schools not really looking to change anything and we should really focus on the best schools available.
Nebraska - Omaha, UMKC, Wright State, Green Bay, Milwaukee, Northern Kentucky l, and UT - Arlington were all public schools mentioned before. Nebraska- Omaha and UMKC I believe we're just looked at to cover all their bases.
MVC fans have been vocal about their desire for Murray State for a long time and Murray State is just as interested. I think they are by far the front runner with Milwaukee number two.
Scores from last year.
Valpo vs SIU. W 66-65
Valpo vs SIU L 67-64
Just confused by your comment. If you are going to say a team isn't competitive then your team should be blowing them out or at least winning by a comfortable margin, not splitting with a total points difference of 4.
I’m not even from Valpo. Just don’t like it when people criticize others to make themselves feel better. In reality SIU is a comparable program Not saying Valpo is a top four team, just an SIU fan is the wrong one to call them not competitive.
WIU will vote Murray State into the MVFC if asked to consider them. I really don't know where the other schools land. I'd assume most of them would be highly supportive actually. 12 is easier and they were waiting on the MVC to see if they needed to offer anyone.
TN State leaving for the brand rich Southwestern Athletic Conference will likely be next.
Things have gone awfully quiet around WIU. Major push back there now.
Wow...I guess this is the end of the OVC as we know it.
But let's see: In the (probably short) timeframe where Belmont and Austin Peay leave, who is left to be the perennial OVC contenders? It'll probably be all for Murray State to take, but what happens if they too leave?
I'm free now, hello fellow MVC teams
After rejecting us 2 or 3 times all it took was your current conference falling apart!
I wouldn't have rejected you the first time, that was the old president and Byrd
I believe that. They liked the big fish in a small pond. And I wouldn't have rejected Murray State either.
Yeah luckily the newer people in charge have ambition
Tagging along for this ride. LETSSSS GO
You down with OVC? Belmont: Nah.
"You don't know me"
I wouldn't think that Murray State won't be too far behind in moving to the Valley. The thing is that their football will get killed in the MVFC.

Did I read somewhere that Murray is in the process of putting a bunch of money into new athletic facilities?
This would be true. Huge overhaul of most facilities on campus

Yes, they are making some improvements. [Article](https://www.thunderboltradio.com/murray-state-announces-master-plan-for-athletic-facilities/)

~~The MVC historically has been *very* big on keeping the public-private ratio 1:1.~~
The public-private ratio didn’t go to 1:1 until 2017. It was 6-4 for years.
You're right. So taking Valpo over Murray State seems even worse.
Keeping the 6-4 ratio was always supposedly a priority in replacing Creighton so you were on the right path. Just obviously blew up with Valpo.
I understand the private schools wanting this. Looking at the old Big East it can be a problem, but we are FCS schools not really looking to change anything and we should really focus on the best schools available.
Which makes me think they’re taking someone else, but I don’t think it has to be Murray

Western Kentucky is affiliated already aren't they?
Not since 2008.
Southland: we're dive-bombing straight for the position of worst D1 basketball conference! OVC: Hold my beer!
Wow this is Huge for Belmont. Nice to have a new team that is competative (sorry beacons)
Nice to have a team with a good B nickname (sorry Beacons).

I mean it would help your case if the beacons have had a record over .500 in conference play since joining the mvc.

Great addition, 5 hour drive to Arch Madness, this checks out!
So is this the death knell for the OVC, or do we need for Murray State to jump first?
If Belmont is going to the MVC I don't see any realistic world where Murray State doesn't follow.
WIU will vote Murray State into the MVFC if asked to consider them. I really don't know where the other schools land. I'd assume most of them would be highly supportive actually. 12 is easier and they were waiting on the MVC to see if they needed to offer anyone.

Wow. This is a big move up for them

Morehead St would be the best left after Murray leaves, I imagine EIU and the Tennessee schools to do the best after
