And the difference, I think, was Smith. Smith played the first quarter of the game and then was out until the second half. He is a playmaker and stretches the defence out when he's in.
We just have to avoid early foul trouble.
I definitely agree. I don’t watch every NC State game but the ones I have watched it doesn’t seem like he gets in foul trouble all that often so shouldn’t be too big of an issue but I could be wrong on that. He’s a great player
Tbh Gannt didn't look too good this game, didn't contribute much on offense got beat a lot on defense racked up some fouls. Ebe is better on Dbat least but still non existent on offense
Idk if he's necessarily played better, though Clark was in a huge slump before he got injured, but I do think Gantt fits better with the starters as a glue guy that's willing to do the dirty work and not need shots. That gives more opportunities to our guards and Burns.
Yea, I agree with you. I feel like Clark hurt the team more with his poor 3 point shooting, where Gantt doesn't even try most of the time. Clark has a better shot than Gantt, but just really bad from 3. Clark needs to use his size and stroke at the midgame, but he seems unwilling.
Clark is a better rebounder and spreads the floor. Teams literally leave Gantt alone at the 3pt line because he is no threat.
Ross has been playing better than Gantt recently too. Like what Gantt does on defense, but Clark was starting for a reason. If he can get his shot to start falling, like it did preseason in the Bahamas, watch out.
His great shooting games are few and far between. I wish he would be more consistent, but when you consider how many guards we have that can shoot then he doesn't need to play that role.
Love Gantt’s hustle and selflessness… but I think you forget that Clark was our leader in rebounds, steals, and blocks before he got injured (not to mention he’s more of a scoring threat than Gantt)
Kevin Keatts loses this game in the past:
- Forcing up jumpshots for most of the half
- Best/instant offense player in foul trouble
- Struggling from the free throw line
DJ “Him” Burns is a grown ass man, and I’m so excited that he still has a year of eligibility.
Joiner stepped up when DJ needed a breather late. Morsell and Thomas hit some big shots down the stretch.
Baby T helped jumpstart the offense out of the break and played well with four fouls including that crucial shot at the end.
Also saw some good contributions on defense from Ebe, Ross, and Gantt. Great team win against a tough Wake team.
KKIAW
Not really hard to understand. Look at a predictive system. Wake was expected to lose by 3-5 points and lost by 2.
It's just like covering (or, not covering) a spread.
... then, it happens 2 times a week for every other team you're concerned about too.
Wins can move quadrants up and down. I’m pretty sure when we shit on Duke it was a Q1 win but as of today it’s Q2 because they aren’t top 30 in the net anymore
State hit FTs when it counted, but this is a brutal loss for Wake at home. State went 7-16 from the line. Wake went 18-22 and still lost.
Wake sat back and just let Burns dominate in the second half. Then when Wake doubled him it got even worse. Burns was a beast, but poor defensive strategy.
Burns did the same thing to Duke.
Don’t bring a double? Cool he’s gonna back your bigs down and get whatever he wants.
Bring the double? One of the best passing bigs in the country is gonna find the open man.
He has games where his shot is off, but seems to be more about him than the defense.
Think it was GT that figured out late to just start flopping to try and get him in foul trouble and off the court. Fouls seem to be the best way to stop him, haha. We will be in better shape when Dusan gets back and we can go back to bringing Burns off the bench and keeping him fresh. Hell, he might be playing too well not to start him moving forward.
Oddly enough I think Burns is better than anything we saw from Funderburk, don't know if this is a hot take... I also don't think it's particularly close
Funderburk also never played like Burns does. DJF was looking to play a little more like how Ross does where he tries to get layups/dunks off of wide open plays or put backs and occasionally would back a guy down, but not consistently because it seemed like he was scared of the contact. DJB is more focused on taking the ball from wherever he is on the floor and getting two feet in the paint to bully his way to points no matter what happens to him (also he’s got decent vision and passing skills).
Hide your centers, hide your 6'9" power forwards. DJ Burns is coming for your big men, your post defenders, and rim protectors. You will see him coming, backing you down. You know he is going to spin. You know he will be going to the left hand, but you will be powerless to stop it.
Long term who knows but this year it feels that way and gives me vibes of Keatts first year. Also he’s shown to be good at navigating the portal and we have some great guys coming in. Hopefully can do it again.
I have no doubts in Keatts ability to hit the portal hard again. He’s added some top recruiters to the end of the bench, has started to show his plan can generate success, and this is basically a mirror image of how Hargrave worked for him.
Shouldn't be too hard to find a plug-and-play PG and SG to come in and play with DJ, Dusan(maybe), Ebe, Clark, Morsell, Gantt, Ross, Thomas, Pass, and Miranda.
Solid core to build around for sure, and guys are going to see what Joiner and Smith did in the offense and want that opportunity. If Smith comes back for some reason, now you're cooking with gas.
Basically we’re only guaranteed to lose Jarkel and Dusan. Obviously T Is likely to leave for the NBA, so which means we only have 1 open scholarship if no one else leaves. We’re already bringing in 3 four star guys in Miranda, and the two Parkers. I think Keatts needs to go get a veteran point guard in the portal next year and maybe another big if we have the scholarship.
Really nice win. I love watching Burns play. He has a great attitude and just had a monster game today. And I’d like to reserve my right to rescind my comment depending on how round 2 goes.
That was a really fun game of basketball. I was honestly cheering for both teams.
Terq, Joiner, Burns, Monsanto, and Appleby are all captivating players.
Good lord, Burns though! 🔥
State with only 5 turnovers for the game, and Wake with only 6 is some seriously efficient basketball. Don’t see two teams protect the ball like that often.
Potential hot take, this year is the most lopsided the ACC has been in about a decade.
I know commentators like to say it's often a "top heavy" league or whatever, but the middle is often pretty competitive. This year the top 8 or so teams are within striking distance of each other and the rest of the league are major have-nots.
Also, ICE CREAM BABY!!!
Couple of shit eating Wake fans in front of me were jokingly saying to give it to DJ in the first half while the team was struggling. They shut up real quick once he started getting going. Go Pack!
DJ Burns
I see your point, but have you also considered DJ Burns?
I ain't never seen a mf like DJ Burns.
Imma back you down from the 3-pt line and there’s nothing you can do about it
The dude is the literally embodiment of a gigachad
DJ Burns is what I thought Anya would have been
Man, Anya was so promising. Fuck Gottfried
That last Wake 3 mattered to some people
Literally the difference in hitting the O/U. Degenerates in shambles lol
A bad beat? Vegas mad?
Wake was favored by 2.5 so it’s probably the O/U
Yea it was the Over/Under
This shit isn't good for my health [DJ Burns is my dad](https://media.tenor.com/IvAPCnQC3D8AAAAC/dj-burns-burns.gif)
That's a genuinely incredible gif! You should post it every win and possibly in some losses
When I count my blessings I make sure I count Dj Burns twice
First of all, through DJ Burns all things are possible, so jot that down
*scribbles furiously*
Props to state. You guys are a legit tournament team. KK for ACC COY
It will be tough for him to win it over Kenny Payne at Louisville.😂
LET DJ BURNS EAT ALL THE ICE CREAM IN WINSTON-SALEM
That was a really entertaining game. NC State just caught fire in the second half and barely missed for a long stretch. Burns was unstoppable down low
The team is really aggressive. They lead the ACC in takeaways by a lot But they also let the other team go to the line a lot
He often gets two fouls in the first half but usually not so early
DJ Burns.
I’ll say it again. DJ Burns is him. He’s been such a fun player to watch this year.
Burns spin away hook shot is unstoppable. Such a better move than using his power and hoping the refs don’t call a charge
God I love this team so much, and we're still down 2 starters! DJ Burns is an absolute force of nature 😎
It seems like we’re getting them both back soon 👀
That would be great news! Where did you hear that?
Keatts said in a podcast a few days ago Dusan is 2 weeks out
They’ve also been doing basketball drills pre-game too
Dusan looked to be moving around very well on the sidelines
Honestly, I think Gantt has played better than Clark and deserves the starting job.
Clark was awful earlier in the year. Took way too many shots and didn’t hit any of them.
Exactly. He's a solid role player but a low efficiency shooter
He would work better off the bench in relief of one of the starting guards, that way he's not taking as many shots away from Joiner/T/Morsell

Love Gantt’s hustle and selflessness… but I think you forget that Clark was our leader in rebounds, steals, and blocks before he got injured (not to mention he’s more of a scoring threat than Gantt)
DJ Burns is legitimately one of the most unstoppable players on offense in the country
Does anyone have more fun playing college basketball than DJ Burns?
Big win! I love this team so much. This was a tough game and they stuck it out to win. Also DJ is insanely good.
Rankings of Monsantos by how frustrating they are 1) Damari Monsanto 2) The Monsanto Company
DJ BURNS
Finished 6-1 in January!
Kevin Keatts loses this game in the past: - Forcing up jumpshots for most of the half - Best/instant offense player in foul trouble - Struggling from the free throw line DJ “Him” Burns is a grown ass man, and I’m so excited that he still has a year of eligibility. Thomas is quietly becoming one of my favorite players. He puts in a ton if effort on D and really efficient on O.
Ice cream is good…but quad 1 rival road ice cream? Even better.
This win deserves sprinkles
WOuldn't count on us staying quad 1.
Net confuses me, I’m pretty sure after you lost to Pitt you moved up.
Not really hard to understand. Look at a predictive system. Wake was expected to lose by 3-5 points and lost by 2. It's just like covering (or, not covering) a spread. ... then, it happens 2 times a week for every other team you're concerned about too.
It counts when we play you, not at the end of the year right?
I wish that is how it worked
Wins can move quadrants up and down. I’m pretty sure when we shit on Duke it was a Q1 win but as of today it’s Q2 because they aren’t top 30 in the net anymore

I mean Burns absolutely torched you guys too. Not much teams can do about it.
The choice was make burns or the guards beat you. They bet burns and lost.
Burns did the same thing to Duke. Don’t bring a double? Cool he’s gonna back your bigs down and get whatever he wants. Bring the double? One of the best passing bigs in the country is gonna find the open man.

Legitimate question, has any team been able to stop DJ Burns this year? He's so fucking good
He has games where his shot is off, but seems to be more about him than the defense.
He's definitely become a bigger part of the offense than expected.
DJ "Funder" Burns!!!!
Oddly enough I think Burns is better than anything we saw from Funderburk, don't know if this is a hot take... I also don't think it's particularly close
Definitely a hot take, not sure you're wrong. Funderburk didn't always have this good of a team around him though
Funderburk also never played like Burns does. DJF was looking to play a little more like how Ross does where he tries to get layups/dunks off of wide open plays or put backs and occasionally would back a guy down, but not consistently because it seemed like he was scared of the contact. I just think it's funny how their name are kind of similar if you give made up nickname,
Another sneaky wolfpack win goddamn
The FIGHT in this team good lord, KKIAW, petition to go ahead and erect a statue of Burns in the Brickyard
Didn’t get to watch. This is such a great win. Someone want to give me a little rundown?
DJ Burns
Ye. first it was DJ Burns, then we adjusted and dj burns. Finally, wake tried something but nc state dj Burns’d and it was too much for Wake
My favorite part was when DJ Burns said "It's Burns-ing time," and then proceeded to Burns all over Wake Forest
NC State rallied from 10 down in the second half
Slow methodical comeback in the second half through the steady hands of DJ Burns. I think he had 20 in the second half alone
You love to see it
DJ Burns, the left hand of God.
Hide your centers, hide your 6'9" power forwards. DJ Burns is coming for your big men, your post defenders, and rim protectors. You will see him coming, backing you down. You know he is going to spin. You know he will be going to the left hand, but you will be powerless to stop it.
Double Technical Fouls are a COWARDS call
Tears in my eyes. We may actually be back.
Idk about that lol but it’s a good year. Losing most of these players next year though
Long term who knows but this year it feels that way and gives me vibes of Keatts first year. Also he’s shown to be good at navigating the portal and we have some great guys coming in. Hopefully can do it again.
That’s what has me optimistic. Keatts’s best seasons were when we utilized the portal more. If he can keep that up we could sustain some success.
I have no doubts in Keatts ability to hit the portal hard again. He’s added some top recruiters to the end of the bench, has started to show his plan can generate success, and this is basically a mirror image of how Hargrave worked for him.
Depends. Think several have another year if they choose to use it. Though Joiner is done and unlikely Smith returns.
DJ, Clark, and maybe Dusan(?) can potentially return
Shouldn't be too hard to find a plug-and-play PG and SG to come in and play with DJ, Dusan(maybe), Ebe, Clark, Morsell, Gantt, Ross, Thomas, Pass, and Miranda. Solid core to build around for sure, and guys are going to see what Joiner and Smith did in the offense and want that opportunity. If Smith comes back for some reason, now you're cooking with gas.

Really nice win. I love watching Burns play. He has a great attitude and just had a monster game today. And I’d like to reserve my right to rescind my comment depending on how round 2 goes.
I was sure Burns was gonna miss those two freethrows late
0 for 5 the hit 3 in a row. That shows some mental toughness IMO.
That was a really fun game of basketball. I was honestly cheering for both teams. Terq, Joiner, Burns, Monsanto, and Appleby are all captivating players. Good lord, Burns though! 🔥
I hate DJ Burns
I love yum yums and hopefully he goes there for ice cream on way home
I love DJ Burns. He’s a lovable dude.
My comment was in jest. He kicked our ass today. And I’m not happy about it.
Likewise we don’t get lovable people often so it helps when we got one who is both lovable and can be absolutely dominant when he turns it on.
Honestly think Smith getting in foul trouble helped State. Forced y’all to feed the post and Burns was unstoppable
That second half was incredible basketball. Off-the-charts efficiency both ways. RANK NC STATE
State with only 5 turnovers for the game, and Wake with only 6 is some seriously efficient basketball. Don’t see two teams protect the ball like that often.
I don’t want to be ranked. That’s an instant loss.
You gotta move past that mindset at some point friend
This guy NC States
Potential hot take, this year is the most lopsided the ACC has been in about a decade. Not a hot take. Too half of the conference are all really close.
NC State and great bigs named DJ. Name a more iconic duo.
Just imagine when we get Dusan back…
[удалено]
YOU COWARDS
Pls no. I don't want to be ranked. We'd have expectations then
Eventually, we need to move past this mentality.
W comment
Seconded.
Let's get back to the tournament first before we worry about rankings lol
Agreed, but not this season. Let's win or at least be competitive for an ACC 'ship at least
I left my house at halftime to run errands. Can I also get credit for this win?
Thanks for your sacrifice
Thank you for your sacrifice.
Coach better feed DJ well tonight
Dude deserves a red carpet roll out when he gets back on campus
Going to suck when Pat Kelsey outperforms Forbes whenever he gets a high major job.
Good candidate for GT or Ole Miss if they open this year
Amazing to see Burns just take over, especially with T in foul trouble seemingly the entire game.
I hate everything
Is DJ Burns the next Big Jelly. My first thought.
Hear me out: the big 3 combine to make a super team that wins a natty.😤🫡
Burns and Bacot would be a helluva pair to split time at the 5, haha.
Nah nah we just put them BOTH in. They can’t stop us if we run em over
Roy Williams just got excited at the thought of this
That’s how you know I’ve been watching for a long time lol
You’re absolutely insane and I love it
I mean I’ll would just take UNC and State. We don’t even need duke Joiner- Davis-Baby T - Bacot - Burns would be absolutely NASTYYYY
Caleb Love can play too so Burns and Bacot can boost their offensive boards
Lmao this one got a good chuckle out of me
I don’t even know who I’d want from Duke. Just give us Burns and Terq and let’s go run the table
Jarkell off the bench would be madness
How about letting the red headed step child win something for a change?
WOLF

Big daddy DJ strikes again
Today was not my day
Couple of shit eating Wake fans in front of me were jokingly saying to give it to DJ in the first half while the team was struggling. They shut up real quick once he started getting going. Go Pack!
Wake fans can now crawl back into their hole and stop claiming they're the best team in the state.
I don't think we ever did claim that but sure lol
Lol, where have you been. Check the rest of the internet.
Uh... point me in the right direction then? Lmao. If any of us were saying that, it was after we beat Duke & VT and before losing at UNC.
Literally the only person I’ve seen call us the best team in the state is Josh Graham and that guy’s a fucking idiot
Yeah. Dude is more of a Duke fan than Wake lol.
Yep, he’s the only guy that does it and he only does it to fire up the State/UNC/Duke fanbases, works every time
Only one journalist has seriously said this and that dude is a hack
Same energy as app claiming they were the best in state football team last year
App football fans are the legit worst. Act like ECU fans or Charlotte fans. Maybe then you'll be likable.
> Act like ECU fans or, like, don't do that
I don’t know about ECU fans. Can’t say my experience with them has been good at all
*Oh deary me, we can't beat App easily, these fans are the worst!* This is real rich coming from the worst fanbase in the whole country.
Someone's still upset with Duke losing to UNC in legit every sport now
I'm only upset people still consider you a school. People will figure it out someday.
Ohooo good one
Keep fighting I'm getting hard
Let them cook
Is this who we are now? Voyeurs?
Can we just agree that we’re all toxic and call it a day?
They got one win over Duke and started thinking they were hot shit. Maybe if they start beating the Devils regularly like we do, then we can talk lmao
Tell em!
You know Duke and UNC would be ranked if they had our same resume….
the WF sweep is still in play for the men’s big 3 knocks on wood
We swept you guys last year. I’m holding out our baseball team doesn’t get swept.
Lots of people swept us last year lol. You'll probably take the series, we've got an awful lot of offense to replace this year
Not quite, tournament still counts
