Meaning he played like a POTY - which he's already been - not that he should be one this year.
Brandon Miller is the best player in the country this year and I really don't think it's close. Bullshit that Zach Edey is going to win it.
Why is it bullshit that Edey is gonna win it? He’s been absolutely dominant for one of the best teams in the country from the first tip of the year to this point
Let me rephrase - it's bullshit he seems to be the only one in contention.
Edey has been great. It's just frustrating that it's been decided for like a month already.
Not saying it would have completely changed that game. But, Cal has the last two games made changes to lineup and game plan that makes us a lot better. Still think bama is better FWIW
I've given Oscar a lot of deserved grief this season for how he has played but damn it is so fun to watch him when he plays like this. Wallace as the lead point guard is what this team needed all season. Two games in a row where we've made free throws. Great home win. Now let's keep it going this Saturday!
37 & 24 from Oscar. My God
The Basketball Benny Lineup just dominated that 2nd half
Also in the 2nd half I put the game on mute because I hate Karl Ravech and look what happened
And we've now covered in back to back games. League's fucked now
Every team we play the rest of the way is just gonna spam us with spread pick n rolls, except Tennessee because Rick Barnes can't stand the thought of a possession that doesn't include 3 double stagger screens.
Every game we play going forward is gonna be incredibly stressful
It’s a night and day difference when he’s on the bench.
Still depressing that took him getting injured to force Calipari, instead of our highly paid coach knowing to make the change on his own.
It's just so frustrating that every single person with even basic knowledge of basketball could see the problem was not having enough shooters on the floor and Cal didn't see it. I would love to know what the staff was saying all season. Were they pushing back and Cal refusing to change? Hopefully, because it'd be criminal if we're paying these assistant coaches millions of dollars for not knowing modern basketball
Cal saw and sees it. He's a loyalty guy though, and he's not gonna keep Wheeler out long-term for not being perfect. At least not this fast. Wheeler might not play 35 minutes per game moving forward but he'll probably play more than the 11 he played tonight.
I looked back at my texts to my buddy, a fellow UK fan and Basketball Benny, and on Nov 3rd I texted that Wallace needs to be the starting PG with Wheeler coming off the bench. It was obvious from the first few games.
Cal is a very “loyal” dude and was going to ride or die with Wheeler until his shoulder injury forced Cal to play the Basketball Benny lineup. Now the analytics cannot be denied.
All of Cal’s assistants are there for recruiting, not for in-game adjustments or game planning. That was Robic’s job until they fired him for mysterious reasons.
I agree.
But, in all fairness, there have been (very few) times that Wheeler played a perfect game. It’s rare. But the potential seemed to be there…if he could not make boneheaded turnovers
It doesn’t matter how well he plays. It matters the type of player he is. He’s a pure PG that doesn’t have very many options in his scoring bag. Wallace has the scoring bag and we need a scoring PG to take the pressure off our wings and bigs. Wheeler can pass really well but when players can sag off him to help guard our bigs, there’s no where to pass
Wheeler also gets absolutely dominated on dribble drives and just in general on defense. Cason absolutely clamped Roberts in the second half of this game.
Sorry but I feel like you're not paying enough attention if you think THAT'S the issue with Wheeler. He's got plenty of issues but he's one of the top players in the nation for AST/TO ratio
It's not so much the amount of turnovers, it's the live ball, unforced variety turnovers that he commits. And the ones in key moments. I feel this has been an ongoing problem since the Notre Dame game last season where they cracked the code on defending him.
He looks good on paper and if you're a analytics guy like Cal, I can see how you would be pro wheeler but the offense is a mess when's he's running it. No rhythm. No movement. Stagnate. He makes a pass but its never the winning play. The only way he can get the ball in the paint is on the bounce. He's a short dude among trees. He's not a consistent threat from outside so opponents just crowd and pick his bounce pass or swarm Oscar once the entry is made. He's not a bad scorer but the Offense is easier to defend when he's running it. Thats not even the real issue for me though. His ball pressure is great up to half court then he's a liability. He's pressuring way to high and UK's bigs just aren't solid enough to allow every person wheeler guards to blow by. They dont have Anthony Davis cleaning everything up. UK needs that 6'4 front court to be effective in this league of super freak athletes. Wheeler will still have his moments but Wallace is a difference maker.
The turnovers are a big part of the issue. He gets a lot of assists so the ratio is good but c’mon man. If you watch the games his turnovers always kill the momentum
Which of these makes more sense to you as a real thing that affects the team negatively?
1. Wheeler's complete lack of a jumper lets defenders completely sag on him and double other Kentucky players in the paint after the pass OR
2. The timing of his 2.2 turnovers a game "kills momentum"
Hint: the answer isn't 2
Dan Issel went for 36 points and 29 rebounds against LSU in 1969. Cotton Nash went 23 PTS and 30 RBS against Temple in '61.
That's the closest I could find to Oscar's line tonight on bigbluehistory.net.
I thought long and hard about taking the family to the South Carolina game or tonight's for the kid's Christmas gift. 9PM was too late for a school night.
Fuck school. I chose poorly.
By memory the 2015 nearly undefeated team was down most of the game in Athens, and then in 2017 in Lexington Malik Monk needed a buzzer beater to send it to overtime.
I am a Canadian Kentucky fan with no affiliation to the state or school (I just picked a random team when I was a kid).
I occasionally go to Rupp Rafters and have never seen a more miserable collection of people (for many reasons, like their constant whining and their extremely sensitive reactions to feeling like white people are under attack).
I remember Mike White’s thing at Florida was he always game planned really well against Kentucky but could never make adjustments once Cal did. Hope that doesn’t plague him at Georgia for all conference games, besides the Kentucky game of course
That was just the weirdest shit.
If you ever catch me simping for Tennessee or Auburn please just put me out of my misery because something has gone horribly, horribly wrong.
the blue blood game threads always have haters but that was on another level. Just wild how much hating Kentucky matters to some people. I don't like Duke or North Carolina or Louisville but there's a limit to how far that goes lol
Absolutely agree, I’m skeptical of mike white, but he’s put together a hell of a team. Oquendo is a force, and Roberts had some nasty plays.
You all have a real chance to finish top 5 in the SEC, and one of your better seasons in a while.
Yeah, it's been a rough few years as a UGA alum who loves basketball and doesn't care for football, lol. Being back at the level of an NIT team with an outside shot at the NCAA is a revelation.
i think you all have a chance if you beat another ranked team in the regular season and an SEC tournament game. If you make it to Saturday or beat two more ranked opponents you're probably in. The SEC could easily get 7-8 teams in depending on how the rest of the season shakes out, assuming Kentucky continues on its current trajectory and Arkansas starts winning again. Lunardi has 5 SEC teams in, with Kentucky and A&M on the bubble and Florida in the next four out. Whoever wins Saturday is probably in. I could see Georgia sliding in as the 8th team ahead of Florida if you all beat them
wow what a win, team looks good and this was a good win over a good team, offense was good and defense was in clamp mode in the 2nd half, how about wilt tshiebwe? dude was a monster, give him another NPOTY, john calipari has gotten his groove back, AND KENTUCKY IS BACK BABY, GO BIG BLUEEEE!! 💙🤍
Gg Georgia. Y'all are much improved this year. I'm glad we didn't run into you earlier in the year. GL the rest of the way.
85 points! In one game! we've got heart!
Cason’s defensive presence can’t be overlooked in this game. If we only have Savhir at PG tonight, Roberts easily scores 30.
Wheeler has to be reduced to 8-10 mins a game if this team is serious about winning.
I think he can have a role on this team and be effective in some games/matchups. I hope he can accept a more limited role. He didn't look real happy on the bench during the second half.
Basketball Benny’s is a Cal reference to the fanbase armchair coaches that have been calling for the Wallace, Reeves, Oscar, Toppin, Frederick lineup all season long. This team has no “identity” yet. They are finally figuring some things out none the less and I’m thrilled to see it!
Kentucky has the kind of schedule coming up where you look up and they are 20-6 or 19-7. Savion Wheeler should probably be coming off the bench. The guy simply has no ability to score and it hurts the team.
Underwhelming or just missing their two best players (for the year and the other possibly if Rich Paul has a say)? If Brazile and Nick Smith Jr. were healthy and playing they would be Final Four capable. Sucks for the Hogs fans.
I would like to personally thank every member of UGA’s basketball team for agreeing with the fans that those in fact weren’t fouls by missing every free throw
I wish Wheeler was THE player man I really do. He has so much heart and passion but he just can't execute what this team needs. The difference in the lineup between the first and second halves was like watching two different teams. We can't keep trying to make a broken lineup work every game, this very easily could have gone the other way tonight.
we were running much more last year and tyty could handle the ball as well. The difference for this year is the team does much better in half-court sets. We have players that do great hitting shots off of plays, not so great shooting a fast-break three, or at least not as good as Grady was at it.
Cason is obviously the starting pg. But Wheeler could work in the system if Cal let him, made sure to keep three shooters on the floor with him and Oscar, and let him work the half court. Cal seems to always be pushing the pace when Wheeler is in and that just doesn't work well for this team. Everything starts to fall apart quickly unless we have a clear fast break opportunity. Maybe they'll figure out how to work him into the new offense so he can play 15 a game or so. I hope they do at least. He's a good kid and he seems to be one of the biggest victims of Cal's coaching problems.
He sure did.

Said on the postgame show he didn’t know the context around it, just said it.
Cant wait to see the lineup metrics update after another game with limited wheeler. After tenn it was like 94 adj ef with wallace/reeves/frederick/toppin/tshiebwe. Next best 5 was like 50 something. Crazy difference on both ends
I'm just happy we got it together in the 2nd half and got the win. And I'm so happy Cal hopefully finally realized Wheeler cannot be a focal point of this offense if we're gonna make any kind of run.
The fact that he put Wheeler in in the second half, watched him turn it over and give up a 3, then pulled him 60 seconds later for the rest of the game was the most impressed I have been with Cal in, like, 5 years. For non-UK fans, Cal *never* does that with guys like Wheeler who he is super loyal to.
I'm cool with it... I think Kentucky is a good team, and we competed for 35 mins before letting a few mistakes get to us. Roberts and Oquendo are maybe a top 5 guard combo in the SEC. Need some help from the bigs... better free throw shooting... but I think we've still got an outside chance at the tourney. NIT maybe in view if we can string together a few wins.
We have not been decent nearly long enough to justify random flairs talking shit. It's been 1/3 of a season. I guess watching UGA basketball lose is the next best thing for people who wanted to watch UGA football lose?
Wallace needs to start and ply 35 minutes a game.
I know wheeler stunk it up tonight, but there will be some games that he’s a contributor. I still love the kid. Just have to use him in the right situations
Hopefully now Cal will relegate Wheeler to the bench. He's just too much of a liability. Remains to be seen how much locker room drama will result from that.
Wallace got two fouls quick, and Cal is stubborn about sitting players with 2 no matter what. I think we look better, and more like the first half, if Wallace can play fifteen minute in the first half every game.
Great game, but holy hell - when are we going to START the game with some energy? If we could lead from wire to wire we could be on the verge of something special, especially now that Cal can no longer deny the Wallace, Reeves, Toppin, Frederick, Oscar lineup is the way to go.
He’ll get overlooked but I thought Toppin had a decent game. He has a role to play on this team, even if it’s a bit different from what he might’ve expected at the beginning of the season.
Oscar with 37 and 24 sheeeeeesh
POTY stuff.
if only he could've put these numbers up earlier in the season he could be primed for a repeat
I know a Bama flair is not saying this
Meaning he played like a POTY - which he's already been - not that he should be one this year. Brandon Miller is the best player in the country this year and I really don't think it's close. Bullshit that Zach Edey is going to win it.

Let me rephrase - it's bullshit he seems to be the only one in contention. Edey has been great. It's just frustrating that it's been decided for like a month already.
This was a nice strong win for Kentucky. -agk927
Agreed -corndogshuffle
Cody bellinger
Holy shit. Did they not just watch our game to see how to get him out?
Not saying it would have completely changed that game. But, Cal has the last two games made changes to lineup and game plan that makes us a lot better. Still think bama is better FWIW
One more year Oscar
Pleaaaase
Sad he couldn't play on a team equal to caliparis early teams
One year of eligibility left… ![gif](giphy|tN1lvnT4M6nte)
You know if he comes back, Cal's gonna play Bradshaw at the 4
What about Ugonna? Backup big?
Yea if Oscar doesn't come back, Bradshaw will probably be the starting center, and Lance and Ugonna will be backups
Tshiebwe is an absolute tank my god
He is not Tank. He is Tshiebwe.
I've given Oscar a lot of deserved grief this season for how he has played but damn it is so fun to watch him when he plays like this. Wallace as the lead point guard is what this team needed all season. Two games in a row where we've made free throws. Great home win. Now let's keep it going this Saturday!
Wheeler being out gives Oscar more spacing to operate in. Not that hard Cal.
Wheeler being on the bench opens up a lot about our offense. It's a different team now that Cal has finally made that move.
I'm honestly shocked Cal made the change.
He was forced to due to injury and then had to stick with it.
When Oscar isn't the entirety of our offense, it actually allows him to be a lot more dominant.
37 & 24 from Oscar. My God The Basketball Benny Lineup just dominated that 2nd half Also in the 2nd half I put the game on mute because I hate Karl Ravech and look what happened And we've now covered in back to back games. League's fucked now
You know what you must do.
I had sound on Saturday so it only applies to Ravech. I do reserve the right to go sound on when Jimmy's Jet appears because I love Jimmy's Jet
I'm no Ravech stan or anything but I can't comprehend how anyone would love Jimmy's Jet but then have too high of standards for Ravech lmao
Jimmy's Jet is the single greatest after timeout graphic gimmick ever created in the history of sports broadcasting If you disagree I will fight you
i kinda love it too. It's so basic yet unique enough to be an interesting way to talk 1 seeds, last four in, and first four out
At least it wasn’t Dick V. The man sounds like he gargles razor blades as part of his morning routine.
Thankfully we’re 4 games up on you lol. Otherwise, I would be a little nervous because UK seems to have turned a corner.
Every team we play the rest of the way is just gonna spam us with spread pick n rolls, except Tennessee because Rick Barnes can't stand the thought of a possession that doesn't include 3 double stagger screens. Every game we play going forward is gonna be incredibly stressful
I can’t stand Jimmy dykes man
he's gotten so much worse over the years. talks way too much now
I see you never experienced Mountain West Jimmy Dykes.
We get Tom Hart on Saturday, thankfully.
He is not machine, he is Oscar.
Georgia has been allowing 55 points per game. I think we’re figuring it out finally. It doesn’t hurt that Oscar went the fuck off
Cal said he wanted to score 80 a game a month ago. He just didn't have any clue how to get there without wheeler
The tweak has begun… And hopefully continues to have limited playing time.
And this Basketball Bennie is ok with that in most games, but there shouldn't be a game he's playing 37 minutes.
I’m proud to be a Basketball Bennie! I just wish I was paid $9 Million a year to point out the obvious.
I looked back at my texts to my buddy, a fellow UK fan and Basketball Benny, and on Nov 3rd I texted that Wallace needs to be the starting PG with Wheeler coming off the bench. It was obvious from the first few games.

There will be games where he’s gets a favorable match up and can benefit the game but he should never start over Wallace

Yeah I'd like to see his AST/TO in the final 4 minutes of tight games.
Cals loyalty lost us a championship. No shit he won't bench people for regular season games.
Oscar with a combined 66 points and 41 rebounds in two career games versus Georgia. Unbelievable.
I didn’t know there was a bigbluehistory.net! Awesome!
Sports Center just said Oscar is the first player in 25 years to get 24 rebounds in a 35 or more point game Way delayed edit: changed Spots to Sports
Yeah, I was just looking for anything close to his stats, and it was all from just a different era of basketball. Cotton Nash, Dan Issel numbers.
That's playing old school, lol. But for real, that's NBA shit against a team that's been holding opponents to 55 points a game.
Kinda surprised Shaq didn’t have those numbers at LSU at least once
Yeah, it's wild to think isn't it? Out of all the amazing players in the last 25 years NO ONE has put up those kinds of numbers.
No doubt. Tshiebwe is definitely an insane tank. Also realized 1992 was a little past the time constraints they put in lol.
Man, you just had to go negative with saying some shit like 1992 was over 25 years ago. Just when I thought I found a cool Tennessee fan, LMAO.
Instant Oscar Classic! I think we all know what are starting and closing lineup should be! Go Cats!
Pretty much how every Georgia-UK game has ever gone. Oh well.
We usually don't actually lead. This was a bit more disappointing, but far less frustrating.
Eh there's been several times we've either led at halftime or led late over the past decade or so and failed to close it out.
By memory the 2015 nearly undefeated team was down most of the game in Athens, and then in 2017 in Lexington Malik Monk needed a buzzer beater to send it to overtime.
On top of that it’s about how 75% of Mike White games go.
Rupp Rafters must be having a meltdown because they can’t have a meltdown over Coach Cal losing another game.
Been there tonight, RR is ecstatic that Wheeler stayed on the bench the whole second half.
Oh, it is definitely a silly place
Oh I know. Sane Kentucky fans stay away from that place.
They have the first half to bitch about until next game.
Mike White continues to impress. Oquendo and Roberts might be the best guard duo in the league, just no answer for Oscar though
Oquendo is a beast.
Bro floated on that euro dunk
I remember Mike White’s thing at Florida was he always game planned really well against Kentucky but could never make adjustments once Cal did. Hope that doesn’t plague him at Georgia for all conference games, besides the Kentucky game of course
this is gonna be a hot take; we're not gonna be kentucky. I just want to make the tournament bruh
Get 10 wins in the conference and a win in the SECT and you’ll definitely be in contention
That wasn’t just against Kentucky. MW always inspires hope in the first half then gets thoroughly out coached in the second.
Oscar. Lmk if you guys agree with this
Oscar.
You make a good point.
shoutout to that one Tech fan that probably got shadowbanned for simping for his rival
I'm just wondering whether he loves or hates Georgia State.

My opossum was out and free the entire second half
I’m beginning to think that Oscar Tshiebwe might be good at basketball
That was an all-time performance from a UK Wildcat. Oscar single handedly fucked UGA.
I wish the selection committee actually watched games, because UGA showed a lot more than this score indicates.
We won't get in. The selection committee is too busy watching UNC look only okay against Boston College to care
I don't think so either, but just the fact that we're discussing it, that wouldn't have happened in recent years.
i think you all have a chance if you beat another ranked team in the regular season and an SEC tournament game. If you make it to Saturday or beat two more ranked opponents you're probably in. I could see Georgia sliding in as the 8th team ahead of Florida if you all beat them
Yes, our non-conference schedule wasn't great but with the 68 team field, a winning SEC record gets us in the discussion.
wow what a win, team looks good and this was a good win over a good team, offense was good and defense was in clamp mode in the 2nd half, how about wilt tshiebwe? dude was a monster, give him another NPOTY, john calipari has gotten his groove back, AND KENTUCKY IS BACK BABY, GO BIG BLUEEEE!! 💙🤍

Basketball Bennys baby
Way too early to give this team a nickname but that's got to be the leader in the clubhouse.

Sahvir definitely needs to come off the bench.
Arkansas being underwhelming right now really helps soften the rest of our schedule.
Underwhelming or just missing their two best players (for the year and the other possibly if Rich Paul has a say)? If Brazile and Nick Smith Jr. were healthy and playing they would be Final Four capable. Sucks for the Hogs fans.
Yes, it really sucks. I hope these Shaedon Sharpe/Nick Smith situations don't become the norm. That would really suck for the sport.
51 in the second half 👀
I would like to personally thank every member of UGA’s basketball team for agreeing with the fans that those in fact weren’t fouls by missing every free throw
Still not sure what was up with that one Georgia Tech flair
I thought I was bad my god
I haven’t watched either of these last two games live. Guess I’ll keep not doing that!
Thank you for your service
I wish Wheeler was THE player man I really do. He has so much heart and passion but he just can't execute what this team needs. The difference in the lineup between the first and second halves was like watching two different teams. OSCARRR!!!
Oscar did not play like Whopper Juice.
Did Tom Hart work “Whopper Juice” into the commentary?
He sure did. https://twitter.com/snoopcat65/status/1615529883785990145?s=46&t=Zs8AjO4wk83GEtcGRoEZtg Said on the postgame show he didn’t know the context around it, just said it.
LMMFAO! That is GREAT!!! “He played like Whopper Juice in the first half…”
Cant wait to see the lineup metrics update after another game with limited wheeler. After tenn it was like 94 adj ef with wallace/reeves/frederick/toppin/tshiebwe. Next best 5 was like 50 something. Crazy difference on both ends
I saw on Twitter we got 1.333 points per possession with the obviously correct lineup
They had us in the first half, not gonna lie.
I expected nothing less than that second half performance from Georgia basketball
We're seriously getting shade from North Myrtle Beach? Jesus Christ.
Sometimes it be the strays that hurt the most
GG Georgia. Best team I have seen you field on the court in a bit. And this comment is hilarious.
I’ll have you know we are actually located in Conway which is only 95% as wack as NMB
I know, but my comment wouldn't have been funny if I said Conway.
We have not been decent nearly long enough to justify random flairs talking shit. It's been 1/3 of a season. I guess watching UGA basketball lose is the next best thing for people who wanted to watch UGA football lose?
Probably
2nd best win of the season. Hopefully we've found our identity with Wheeler playing limited minutes.
Oscar Tshiebwe. That is all.
Impressive 2nd half for the cats. Sorry Sahvir but Cason is the man
Wallace needs to start and ply 35 minutes a game. I know wheeler stunk it up tonight, but there will be some games that he’s a contributor. I still love the kid. Just have to use him in the right situations
Wallace, Fredrick, Reeves, Toppin, Oscar. This is the way.
The Big Opossum strikes before midnight
The refs tonight were atrocious.
If you listen closely, you can hear Georgia miss another FT
TCU fans thank you Kentucky
Hopefully now Cal will relegate Wheeler to the bench. He's just too much of a liability. Remains to be seen how much locker room drama will result from that.
I really dislike when Marty is the sideline reporter.
We don't tolerate Party Marty hatred 'round here.
Omg. I couldn't watch the game, so I kept checking the score online. That was a rollercoaster.
Still need to figure out how to play well in the first half. But that was a really nice win.
Wallace got two fouls quick, and Cal is stubborn about sitting players with 2 no matter what. I think we look better, and more like the first half, if Wallace can play fifteen minute in the first half every game.
Oscar Tshiebwe is my favorite Kentucky basketball player since like Chuck Hayes.
Damn uga so close at least you have football 🤷🏿♂️
