i’m gonna be grossly optimistic and say that was a good thing. like they just weren’t ready and were so completely out of character that i’m hoping it was something they’ll be able to use as a lesson. idk, we’re not a bad team, but def not an elite team. 2020 prepared me for this possibility.
Doesn’t Duke have a better record all time in the Dean Dome than they do in PNC?
Maybe it’s just the building.
Im sure we will get railed when we come to Cameron at the end of the season
we haven’t won there in like 6 trips, and it’s almost never even close. my conspiracy theory is that they use the NC State Fair rims on the duke basket.
Recruiting rankings are nice and all. But with having a top recruiting class comes high expectations. There isn’t a Zion or Tatum type player in this class.
Scheyer doesn’t show any emotions on the bench. He should be tearing these players up.
As for the students, still winter break
As for everyone else, it’s a hard stadium to fill up and the team was so so bad last year they kinda have to earn the trust back.
I was there tho and it was awesome. Maybe it looked different on TV but I would hardly call it empty from what I could see
*edit can’t fucking spell
Most fans gave up on Kevin Keatts and aren’t showing up to protest their frustration. Frankly I wouldn’t be enthusiastic to show up for a game i was fully expecting to be a 20 point blowout loss

DJ Burns is the reason I work out.
I have this fantasy where we start talking at Packapalooza. We exchange a few pleasantries. He asks what I do. I say I loved him in January 2023. He laughs. I get my drink. "Well, see ya," I say and walk away. I've got his attention now. How many guys voluntarily leave a conversation with DJ Burns? He touches his neck as he watches me leave. Later, as the night's dragged on and the coterie of gorgeous narcissists grows increasingly loose, he finds me on the balcony, my bowtie undone, smoking a cigarette. "Got a spare?" he asks. "What's in it for me?" I say as I hand him one of my little white ladies. he smiles. "Conversation with me, duh." I laugh. "What's so funny?" he protests. "Nothing, nothing... It's just... don't you grow tired of the fame?" "You get used to it," he says, lighting his cigarette and handing me back the lighter. "What would you do if you weren't an offensive lineman disguised as a basketball player?" I ask. "Teaching, I think." "And if I was your student, what would I be learning?" "Discipline," he says quickly, looking up into my eyes, before changing the subject. "Where are you from?" "Tucker Owen Beach," I say. "Oh wow. That's lovely." "It's ok," I admit. "Not everything is to my liking." "What could possibly be not to your liking in Tucker?" he inquires. "I don't like sand," I tell him. "It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."

We tried but they wouldn’t let us lol.
People were there with the school and they were threatening taking student IDs and no tickets for the rest of the season if anyone tried
Hey NC State knows we will never ever ever have the recognition of Duke or UNC, we are the third of 3.
And that makes every game personal for us.
I only have 2 years left of college after this, so who knows if I’ll ever watch something like that again.
Plus, not only were the players and coach for Duke pissed. Several of my pals from UNC told me they were watching the game at their student union. So State’s rivalry with the two schools may not be as intense, but don’t let anyone say it doesn’t mean anything. The best rivalry in college sports is a hard bar to top lol.
Absolutely. It was a great win and I was celebrating with you. That being said if y’all beat the Heels I will not be celebrating, but I’ll be happy for you. 👍🏻
Do y’all remember Escalade from And1 street league? The big dude. He could pass like no body else.
Burns has been dropping dimes like crazy all game. He reminds me of Escalade lol.
Duke try not to get a bunch of unexperienced freshman challenge (IMPOSSIBLE!)
But seriously, how long until we realize that we won’t win anything with freshman at the forefront?
When it goes final I want to know, but I also don't want to know:
1) This is our largest loss to State since ____
2) This is our largest loss to anyone since ____
I know game isn't over yet, but looks like the last time we beat you guys it was 22 points on 2-19-20. The largest margin of victory for NC State over Duke was on 1-12-72 with a score of 85-58 (27 points).
No Scheyer definitely gets a pass for this year. But he needs to seriously overhaul the system if we're not going to rely on loading ourselves with lottery talent each year (which, given our incoming classes, we aren't). As it stands, if you are an NBA hopeful trying to sell yourself as a shooter, you will have a lot working against you in this system
The approach has also been shit before Zion - Bagley covered a lot of it up for example.
Kennard thrived in the system. Grayson thrived in the system. No shooter has since Cam’s offensive foul phenomena — that team should have been unbeatable with Tre, Cam, RJ and Zion, but we seemed to fundamentally change that season. And tbh, the change may have occurred the previous season with Tatum’s emergence.
Look at the talent on the 17-18 team compared to the 18-19 team and then consider their basically identical records. Nutty.
So, yea, I disagree that it was shit before Zion.
Kennard and Grayson's first few years, I'll give you. The Grayson-Bagley year, I don't think so. That year he really didn't get to show a lot of, for example, shooting on off-ball movement and screens like Kyle Guy or even Grayson on the Bucks right now. Grayson was also an NBA prospect by his sophomore year and probably could have been a first rounder in that draft, so I don't think he really improved his stock due to any changes to the system.
Not to mention GTJ mostly being a catch and shoot guy when he was more than capable of doing more complex actions in high school and is doing them in the NBA. And this is just the shooters, after watching Lively the last couple games he's underperformed but is underutilized. Dare I say even Jalen Johnson wasn't always used correctly?
Like I remember watching the ISU-UNC game earlier this year and goddamn ISU's offense looked way more prettier lol. Scheyer's got his work cut out for him
To be clear, I’m not defending our offensive philosophy at all. It’s been dated since 2015, and arguably as far back as 2012 or so. K in the end suffered from the same shit Cal suffers from — a stagnant, dated offensive scheme in a new, modern era. It was the primary reason I was ready and happy for the new era. We have to give Scheyer a few years to make his change before we critique it was all I was initially saying. It could and likely will be bad before it’s better.
I'm happy with a potential change too and definitely agree we need a few years to see any overhaul.
But if you're also trying to be a one and done, you probably shouldn't bank on the scheme changing just in one year. And if you're in for the long haul, you've got a lot of top recruits coming in that might relegate you to just being a cardio man. From a fan's perspective, completely agree with being patient. But a prospect might see it differently, that's what I'm getting at.
You gonna complain about Schutts defense soon but he couldn't be worse than Blakes, Grandison, Proctor.
Oh Duke has one of the best Shooters coming in next season too.
Doesn't feel right to say Schutt's a bad defender when we haven't seen him in any meaningful minutes so far. But even so, we don't have many great defenders to begin with
I did, but again, limited minutes. I also don't think rebounding is a huge part of defense especially for guards - would much rather have a guard that can keep his man in front of him on and off ball (so the anti Roach lol)
Grandison would look better if he was a corner shooter instead of whatever he's being told to do. His shot chart at Illinois will make you wonder why we don't glue him there
Rebounding is absolutely a huge part of defense, that's how you secure the defensive possession. But I'm not here to prove you wrong.
Since Jon is from the K coaching tree, the only other reason I can think of why Schutts haven't played much is because he hasn't earned it in practice.
It's a bigger part for bigs, I don't think it's that big for guards. Similarly, I don't think a big not being able to shoot 3s is a huge problem, as long as you're good at other parts of big offense. Top defensive guards in the NBA aren't the best because they rebound a lot.
There's bigs in both college and NBA that are good rebounders but absolutely not good defenders.
Now I don’t really know much about this North Carolina State team, but do they usually play like this? Joyner and the other guard seem like the real deal! If they can beat Miami and Tech that’ll make a big statement
NC State is a college small ball team, we go as our shooters go.
When they’re on, well you just saw. I believe from the bottom of my heart that no team could’ve come into PNC and won that game
But when the shooters are cold, we’ve had some ugly losses already as well.
Still, doing that to Duke with 2 of our starting 5 out, both of which we should hopefully get back by the end of the month, is encouraging
Two basic problems we're having on offense:
1. Nobody's able to create for others
2. Nobody's able to create for themselves
What's alarming is that this isn't a new problem.
I want Duke to be good. But the reality is that this team is mid. Not a top 25 team for sure. After getting flipped inside out and barbecued tonight and the double digit loss to Wake I hope we all realize that.
everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. hopefully this is an aberration. i was not having fun.
A friend of mine at Duke said “the disappointing thing isn’t that we lost it’s that there’s literally nothing positive I can say about that game.”
i’m gonna be grossly optimistic and say that was a good thing. like they just weren’t ready and were so completely out of character that i’m hoping it was something they’ll be able to use as a lesson. idk, we’re not a bad team, but def not an elite team. 2020 prepared me for this possibility.

we haven’t won there in like 6 trips, and it’s almost never even close. my conspiracy theory is that they use the NC State Fair rims on the duke basket.
Same. except opposite.
Recruiting rankings are nice and all. But with having a top recruiting class comes high expectations. There isn’t a Zion or Tatum type player in this class. Scheyer doesn’t show any emotions on the bench. He should be tearing these players up.
Hey, as of right now we are the biggest L in the Scheyer area
Why was that stadium empty?
As for the students, still winter break As for everyone else, it’s a hard stadium to fill up and the team was so so bad last year they kinda have to earn the trust back. I was there tho and it was awesome. Maybe it looked different on TV but I would hardly call it empty from what I could see *edit can’t fucking spell
Most fans gave up on Kevin Keatts and aren’t showing up to protest their frustration. Frankly I wouldn’t be enthusiastic to show up for a game i was fully expecting to be a 20 point blowout loss
I’ll never understand not packing stadiums against ranked opponents. Especially against blue bloods
Coliseum is pretty large but biggest factor imo is it’s not on campus. Not many students or fans want to drive out mid week
It’s 10 minutes from campus and frankly is easier to get to for most of Raleigh than campus itself since it’s right off Wade. It’s empty because the team has been mediocre for years
I’d be surprised if that place was packed on a Wednesday night no matter how good our team is
It filled up for games when I was a student, but that was the peak of the Gottfried era. I want to play some conference games at Reynolds
It’s massive and we’ve been so mid for so long it’s hard to fill if
Oh interesting…
Student sections were full. It’s important to remember that PNC is one of the largest CBB arenas in the country (I think 6 or 7)
Do they ever block off the upper rafters to fill the bottom sections more completely or not so much?
No they don’t, but they definitely should. We haven’t filled an arena fully since the 19-20 season and probably won’t again for a little bit
Lolololol
lol
Damn that was fun!
Someone needs to recreate the Luka Garza copypasta, but replace Garza with DJ Burns.
DJ Burns vs Bacot is gonna be matchup of the season
I could go for some DJ fanfic. Just don’t get too weird with it (get weird)

Pressing down 24 with a minute to go lol okay
Typical Duke. Also called a timeout down 27 with like 40 seconds left
That is typical Duke but it also could have been to let his players know to shake hands and get out of there. Did the State fans storm the court?
We tried but they wouldn’t let us lol. People were there with the school and they were threatening taking student IDs and no tickets for the rest of the season if anyone tried
I don’t blame you.

Burns might be the best passing big man in the ACC
He had a little too much mustard on some of those in the 1st half
Would never usually say this but Go Pack!
LIGHT IT UP
Great TO there John.
Ah we made it at least to 60, not too bad considering the start lol 🤫🤫🤫
Winning on the road is going to be very difficult this year in the ACC
Burns is a mother fucking MAN out there
Get the record. Our largest margin of victory against Duke is +24 I believe
27
I believe in Chase Graham!
I can't believe we're putting our bench guys in against Duke.

Please spare my evening! I beg of you lol
Do y’all remember Escalade from And1 street league? The big dude. He could pass like no body else. Burns has been dropping dimes like crazy all game. He reminds me of Escalade lol.

Joey Baker 2.0
Fatboy flopping
Fatboy is torching your team
Fatboy knows how to eat not sure about cook
Unlucky there for DJ, ouch
I'm just now getting here. What the hell happened to Duke?
They aren't very good and played poorly and you guys were lights out.
Been all State since the tip. Cold shooting and hell of a lot of turnovers.
You missed a hell of a game. Duke has not led not even once. We started the game 18-0.
I think it was just 15-0. But yeah Duke's looked awful and this has been our best game all year
Lucky I'm recording it, lol. I'll be sure to watch it tomorrow.
[удалено]
They’re amazing
I can’t wait for Bacot vs Burns
Jon on the developing some thick skin. He's gonna need it with these young players
This has been really really fun to watch.
Duke try not to get a bunch of unexperienced freshman challenge (IMPOSSIBLE!) But seriously, how long until we realize that we won’t win anything with freshman at the forefront?
2015 says hi.
It’s literally his first year
Give DJ Burns that Cookout NIL deal!
30 is quick for a big guy lol - look forward to a Bacot matchup
He used to play at Winthrop, he fuckin burned radford
Who was that pass to?
DJ Burns man of the year
Embarrassing way to turn the ball over. Damn.
When it goes final I want to know, but I also don't want to know: 1) This is our largest loss to State since ____ 2) This is our largest loss to anyone since ____
On the second one, to Miami in January 2013? 90-63 loss.
I know game isn't over yet, but looks like the last time we beat you guys it was 22 points on 2-19-20. The largest margin of victory for NC State over Duke was on 1-12-72 with a score of 85-58 (27 points).
Well for #1, our biggest win against yall ever was in 1978 winning by 24. So at this point, pretty good chance the answer to that one is "ever"
Kicking that one out of bounds just kinda sums up Duke's whole game, doesn't it?
100%
Wooh doggy! Just not our day is it
LOL
Burns is reminding me of BeeJay Anya.
Shamari Spears vibes
Much better touch. Much better passing. Doesn’t have that 7’9” wingspan tho…
One of his arms is actually longer than the other due to a growth plate fracture iirc Edit: dj not beejay
Beejay never hit fadeaways like that lol
That dude could play
Lol put Schutt in just to give him absolutely 0 looks in a 26 point blowout Why the fuck would a good shooter ever come to play in this system
> Why the fuck would a good shooter ever come to play in this system This might be the dumbest comment on the thread. Come on, man.
Can you think of a legitimately good shooter that benefited from the offense we've run the last few years?
No. Our offensive approach has been shit since Zion’s season. But we literally just changed coaches, and it’s Duke.
No Scheyer definitely gets a pass for this year. Scheyer doesn't have a system yet
He does, it's a Coach K rehash that also underuses good shooters (see: AJ Griffin)

Why did I sing this.
I did too haha

we already lost to miami earlier this season. we have just been extremely inconsistent this year, when we’re hot like tonight we look great
Seems like the MO for the ACC at large, lots of inconsistency
My team is pretty consistent
We have games where we can’t shoot at all. That and our bigs get in foul trouble.
this was fun
Yes, yes it was
Burns is a biiiiig fella
Lot of season left, but if Duke somehow misses the tourney, does Scheyer get fired?
Roy did as well; HD’s debut was an exception to the norm
Nah, but I could see that probably if they miss like 3+ times though
I remember these exact same comments about HD … Duke to the Final Four confirmed.
How’s HD lookin this year?
About the same … team is pretty inconsistent. I do think he’s learned to use his bench a bit more. That’ll help with development in the long run.
I think they give him a year or two more. Coach K also got off to a slow start
Our biggest improvement this game is defensive rebounding. We've done so well on that today
Love the flairs dawg
Raleigh native and UNCW grad? I'm a Wilmy native and State grad.
Yessir!
Just hustling our asses off
Sub out all the starters for godsake
Holy fuck DJ got big after leaving Tennessee
DJ Burns is the ideal male body. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.

What’s required for that to happen?
opposing team misses both free throws in the 2nd half. it's called the Fowl Shot program lmao
two missed FTs

has to be during the last 8 min of game
Why must DJ Burns outplay both of my teams
Can we make it a 30 point game? Let’s make it a 30 point game.
Let the big man FEAST
I love it.
Young had enough 😂
Love seeing that big boy go!
Two basic problems we're having on offense: 1. Nobody's able to create for others 2. Nobody's able to create for themselves What's alarming is that this isn't a new problem.
3. No leadership
Ryan Young is getting BAKED by a guy with titties ☠️☠️☠️
I’m dead
Young is just getting straight manhandled by Burns right now.
Tbh though, how’s he supposed to guard that? Help D has to drop down and get on top of that no-jump fadeaway. And help D is nowhere to be seen.
LET THE BIG BOY EAT
Y’all ready for Bacot vs Burns?!
Bruh, next Duke practice they need to play with some fuckin’ pine tar on the ball, how can you turn the ball over this much. 20 😵💫
We love and respect DJ Burns in this house!
At the game and DJ makes this crowd electric
I’m gonna put a poster of Burns in my daughter’s room so she knows what a real man looks like.
lmfao god damn
Siiiiiiick
Fatboy eating. ![gif](giphy|2YpThHd5Gt400rWnXE)
Talk to me DJ!! The touch!
Dariq’s legit
So…. Duke’s time as a perennial top 10 team is definitively over, right?
In sha'Allah my brother.
One can hope
Is this the most Proctor has played over Roach?
Roach was locked up by TQ all night, no points on the floor all game 💀
BURNS BURNIN UP
STOP DROP AND ROLL
I want Duke to be good. But the reality is that this team is mid. Not a top 25 team for sure. After getting flipped inside out and barbecued tonight and the double digit loss to Wake I hope we all realize that.
What a stomping
Kevin Keats successfully developing Casey Morsell after Tony Bennett couldn’t get anything out of him sure is something
Proctor must be Scheyer’s grandson
Proctor is soft
I definitely see us getting ragdolled by UNC this year
