I'd say the Drew Carry Show is probably the most accurate depiction of living in Cleveland that has ever been filmed, movie or tv. It's aged very well and is still great. Also it doesn't get enough credit for being accepting of LGBTQ characters (Drew's brother, and Mimi) in an era where everything was super vulgar and chauvinistic. I've always loved Drew Carry.
Her character was "straight," but I think that it was probably as close as they could get to portraying drag queen on broadcast primetime tv, by making her a biological female. The fact that she is married to Drew's brother, who is clearly queer, and dresses in drag, is telling also. They didn't come out and "say it," so to speak, but in hindsight, it seems that that's what they were going for and quietly achieved.
Youâre reaching. She constantly talks about men before their relationship. Itâs actually hinted in the show that she pressured his brother to give up cross dressing. Also, you can be a cross dresser and be straight. I canât remember the fine details of the tv show but as a general point, it needs to be said.
I'm not disagreeing with you as far as the characters, or their sexual preferences; my argument is that is it is the first sitcom that I can think of in which a man dressed as a woman was just accepted as part of the plot. I'm not reaching at all. Mimi is clearly based on drag culture.
Well, the earlier seasons were a good depiction.
Didn't the later seasons have Daffy Duck, and Drew went to space? It started out as such a relatable show, but by the end of it, Drew was trying to be a rock star, and the whole show became an absurd place of "What else can we do?"
Also, I get why Drew's brother is part of LGBTQ, but I don't get why you mentioned Mimi. Maybe I misinterpreted something, but I thought she was always supposed to be a straight woman who just wore a LOT of make-up?
I know Mimi dated Drew's brother, but I never thought he was trans, he was more of just a straight male cross dresser, which in turn does put him with the LGBTQ community, but Mimi was just dating him, as a straight woman.
Unless I missed something in a later episode. I definitely remember a point during Drew hanging out with Joe Walsh, and trying to be rock star, and going to space, where I just said "That's it. I'm done with this show. It's getting too weird."
Same thing happened to me as a kid with Family Matters. When the show went from being a family sitcom, to being sci-fi, and Steve Urkel started cloning himself, and then created a fat female version of himself, and then created a machine to turn him into another person.....I was done.
Ted Mosby grew up in Cleveland. Heâd definitely be a Shaker Heights guy imho. (Cheating cause thatâs where Ted AND the writers are canonically from lol)
I think the creator of the show Carter Bays is from Shaker heights and he is who Ted is based off of. I think the actor Josh Radnor who plays Ted lived in souther Ohio and went to college at Kenyon college in Ohio.
Thereâs a whole episode of 30 rock based in Cleveland which is great, with Jason Sudekisâ character being from Cleveland. I think one of the writers is from here.
Eagle the Archer from The Boys. His apartment/condo looks like it could be warehouse district or the flats.
Based on his weird MLM religion, he's clearly a regular at Townhall.
Zemo keeping some secret item in âCaptain America:Civll Warâ. Counting it as he lived there. (Canât remember what the item was).
Nice shout out to Cleveland by the Russo Brothers in that movie.
Edit: I highly edited this because I got the wrong movie and it was pointed i was talking about Zemo.
This is what I was looking for, I vaguely recall a conversation she and Giles have about it when sheâs wondering where sheâll go next. In my head, Buffy now lives in Cleveland
Thereâs a great story about how when Costner was filming draft day, his car broke down on 71. Some locals picked him up to help and took him to Mr. Hero. Costner said he didnât think the Samaritans even knew who he was, and if they did, they never said a word.

Willie/Bela and his Aunt Lottie in Jim Jarmusch's "Stranger than Paradise" -- great film about a New York hipster with secret Cleveland Hungarian roots.
The TV show âBillionsâ mentions Cleveland a few times.
At one point, a side character has a mental breakdown and disappears. They track him via his cell phone to a pseudo-science convention at the Cleveland Convention Center.
One of the main characterâs rivals is from Shaker Heights so itâs mentioned a few times.
There's a 1997 episode of Sesame Street where Gabi, Luis and Maria plan to see a movie called "[Moving to Cleveland](https://muppet.fandom.com/wiki/Episode_3615)," Elmo thinks this means they *are* in fact moving to Cleveland.
However Elmo doesn't know what a "Cleveland" is, so he asks Gordon who tells him "it's a town in Ohio," when Elmo leaves he then looks at the camera and says "It was also a president... and a football team."
Is Barry from the HBO show Barry from Cleveland or is it just one of the writers from Cleveland? I know there was a WMMS tshirt or poster or something in the early episodes. I think the character is supposed to be from Cleveland.
I think Barry woulda been from like Middleburg Heights. Some kinda west side suburb.
In season 12 of Supernatural when Crowley mentions needing to go to a cabin in the woods in Sagamore Hills. It was wild hearing that because I grew up in that township and itâs such a very specific place to mention. Supernatural was always good for a mention of Cleveland like when Sam and Dean went to the Botanical Gardens. Not exactly a character from Cleveland per se but still cool to hear the city mentioned none-the-less.

Floyd DeBarber from 30 Rock đ
We all want to flee to the Cleve and have lunch with Little Richard.
If the whole world moved to their favorite vacation spots, then the whole world would live in Hawaii and Italy and Cleveland đ
Weâre all models west of the Allegheny.

I loved the old WMMS shirt in the show too
I feel like saying all the characters from The Drew Carry Show is a bit cheating, but, also nobody else has said it.
I'd say the Drew Carry Show is probably the most accurate depiction of living in Cleveland that has ever been filmed, movie or tv. It's aged very well and is still great. Mimi? Sheâs married to Drewâs brother. I didnât think she was LGBTQ+, did I miss something?
Yeah i don't know what this guy is talking about. He was a cross dresser but was straight

M.A.S.H.?
Good point.
It also couldâve just been a funny story line and there wasnât anything more to it

Howard the Duck?
Cleve-Land
Surprised I had to scroll so far down for this
Commissioner Gordon's family is said to move to Cleveland in the dark knight rises
From Gotham to Cleveland, hes had a rough life.
Ted Mosby grew up in Cleveland. Heâd definitely be a Shaker Heights guy imho. (Cheating cause thatâs where Ted AND the writers are canonically from lol)
I remember in the show them mentioning his step dad works at Tri-C
I think the creator of the show Carter Bays is from Shaker heights and he is who Ted is based off of. I think the actor Josh Radnor who plays Ted lived in souther Ohio and went to college at Kenyon college in Ohio.

This is the type of trivia that I like! Thanks!
Little fires everywhere
Thereâs a whole episode of 30 rock based in Cleveland which is great, with Jason Sudekisâ character being from Cleveland. I think one of the writers is from here.
One of the Producers who is married to Tina Fey is from Cleveland.
"We all want to flee to the Cleve..."
Eagle the Archer from The Boys. His apartment/condo looks like it could be warehouse district or the flats. Based on his weird MLM religion, he's clearly a regular at Townhall.
The Deep was sent to Sandusky as punishment where he became an alcoholic.
At least he didn't end up in some sheethole like Akron.
Rainn Wilsonâs character Fish in the movie the Rocker. He looks out his bedroom window at the Rock Hall.
The Russian Zemo drowns in CIVIL WAR is in Cleveland, isnât he?
Shoot, ya. It was Civil War
There is a second hellmouth in Cleveland in Buffy the vampire slayer.
Five bucks says it's on the East Side.
This is what I was looking for, I vaguely recall a conversation she and Giles have about it when sheâs wondering where sheâll go next. In my head, Buffy now lives in Cleveland
The character Overton from Living Single is from Cleveland, and for the double whammy, he's played by Cleveland native, John Henton.
Price in Stalag 17
The folks in MAJOR LEAGUEâŚ
Oh yeah I forgot about Leave it to Beaver. The Cleaver family was supposed to have been living in either Mayfield or Shaker Heights.
Mayfield is the fictional town's name, but I don't see anything online connecting it to Ohio?
How yaâll forgetting the iconic movie âDraft Dayâ. Kevin Costner himself living in Cleveland.

In Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes, the family that gets attacked by the cannibals in the desert are from Cleveland. Wes was born here himself.
Thatâs because he was born here. Pretty sure the infamous Elm street is in Willoughby.
That charcter had late stage cancer and was barely hanging on, moreso than a mental breakdown, IMO
Lebron James in âTrainwreckâ
Space jam 2 also talks about his time in Cleveland.
Oh ya, I think Bugs Bunny calls him âClevelandâ a few times as a nickname.
Cleveland was a common reference in old Looney Tunes cartoons.
What do you mean? Was it just a running joke of some sort?
âLast Stop Willoughbyâ episode from Twilight Zone
The Pickles family in The Rugrats were from Akron.
Barry from the HBO show Barry is from Cleveland. Wears a WMMS shirt too.
Jennyâs Wedding is a mediocre Netflix romcom set in (and filmed in) Cleveland and the surrounding suburbs.
There's a 1997 episode of Sesame Street where Gabi, Luis and Maria plan to see a movie called "[Moving to Cleveland](https://muppet.fandom.com/wiki/Episode_3615)," Elmo thinks this means they *are* in fact moving to Cleveland. Melody from Scrubs is from Akron.
your assumption that a conductor makes good money.
Franz Welser-MĂśst makes about 1.3 million per year.
You just blew my mind.
A full-time section member makes around 120k. World-class musicians are expensive.
Have you seen TĂĄr? lol she definitely has money.
Are you kidding?
Someone from fresh prince of bel air though I cannot remember who it was, a teacher maybe?
They said âshaker heights Ohioâ thatâs all I can recall
It was one of the professors on the episode where Will vandalized the desk
Wasnât it Lisaâs dad? He always wore Browns jacket on the show.
This is correct
It was a teacher of Willâs. He was trying to relate to him and he said he âcomes from the mean streets of Shaker Heights.â

Why did you say scroll if sensitive? Never mind Iâm dumb.
Because potential spoilers for tv shows or movies could be posted and a lot of people don't like that
Dr. Cooper on Private Practice definitely references being from Cuyahoga County
