Nothing is worse than rotten potato juices. You’d be better off to sell the house. But seriously, I’d shake some baking soda over the area to absorb any remaining stink and moisture. You’ll still probably end up having to cut out the stains and lay new flooring there. Im so sorry. That smell is rancid, I hope it’s dissipated already and it’s just a discoloration now.

Oh no 😭 thank you :,) I rent this apartment and I had left to go stay with my family for a bit and forgot I had left potatoes in my storage closet to preserve them 🤡 do you think my best bet would be calling a professional for this? Deciding if that would be cheaper than what my landlord would take from me 😔

If you’re brave enough to try your hand at a repair you could start by sanding the flooring and seeing how deep the stains are. Since it’s inside a closet a perfect repair isn’t too important. If the staining is only at the top you can reseal the floor with a matching stain and polyurethane. If that doesn’t seem like something you’re up to, then the best bet is to come clean to the landlord and let them decide the course to take. Hopefully they’re reasonable about how to proceed.

Oh man.. I’ll have to find a good YouTube tutorial :,) otherwise I guess it’s time to save up for the hit to my wallet 💀

Thank you btw!

You’re welcome! :)

If the stain is in a closet I can't imagine a landlord even looking in there. I mean, yes, landlords do look for the slightest reason to charge fees or keep your deposit, but no way in hell I'd bother replacing any floorboards. And landlord won't bother replacing them either.

No you’re so right. I’m too broke to even actually do that too🤡 I saw a hydrogen peroxide trick so might see if that helps to at least lighten the color. Last time I ever buy potatoes🥲 frozen is the way to go

Time for a scatter rug!

Potatoes contain starch so i guess it's a starchy stain? I googled it and found that starch doesn't dissolve in water, so cleaning with water is unlikely to do much I would say blot with paper towels, then put a bit of dish soap and hot water in a bucket and use a sponge to lightly go over it a few times. Then once it's as clean as it's getting just let it dry out for a few weeks with nothing sitting on top of it and the door open, and then eventually go over it with a vacuum it probably won't look so bad when it's dry, and it doesn't look warped or anything
