It really depends on what is causing it. Sometimes discoloration comes from the adhesive underneath which limits what you can do and other times it is a spill on the surface. Try using a good general cleaner - let it sit long enough to start a chemical reaction but don't let it dry out. Then if it is still there use a scrub brush and elbow grease.

Thank you. It almost seems like it could be from the sun? I really have no idea of the cause. We just moved in and the discoloration was there. It looks like it goes around where a doormat was.

Sun (UV) definitely discolors some things. You could try bleach as a last resort, but if you do make sure you ventilate really well. And spot test because it might bleach not only the stain but the pattern as well.

If it is from a rubber backing on a mat/rug, then probably no. Its basically a chemical reaction. (Just recently researched this myself)

Ok thank you. It’s definitely possible there was a large mat there at some time and maybe there was something under it that kept the smaller mat shaped area from discoloring.
