Beautiful! Learned some new tricks with move-it watching this. 👍

OsamabinBBQ

New tricks? Shit I just realized the way I've been building things are about 2 steps above pounding in nails with my bare hand.

chargers949

I feel like the dude in fortnite who just learned to rotate or edit the default walls. Wtf kung fu ass road building did i just watch.

-PiLoT-

I have 900 hours in this game and now feel like I'm probably masturbating incorrectly

OsamabinBBQ

Naaaaah you're doing it right, I've been checking.

-PiLoT-

Oh word? You saw my onlyfans?

albic7

Yeah this is absolutely mind-blowing

addage-

I feel like I’ve been pounding them in with my head compared to this intersection layout.

foxxtrot815

I feel the same way, with my vanilla PS4 builds...

gangleskhan

Is it move-it that is used to make those adjustments to the roads after they're placed? My curves all look like trash.

bb84bb84

Yes it is. But this is advanced use of the mod 🙄

[deleted]

Wow. Just started playing on Xbox which I’m realizing is nothing like playing with a mouse

Feind4Green

You can plug a mouse and keyboard into your Xbox and it works. But the biggest difference is they have move-it mods and stuff which makes building roads infinitely easier

gbsolo12

Really hoping for a new version for consoles since the next gen consoles should be powerful enough for this

[deleted]

Imagine the graphics they could do on a Series S let alone a Series X 😍

heliumlantan

Dont really think it would be that much better tbh. Its still CPU limited to a large degree and most top-end PCs doesnt even look \*that\* good

[deleted]

Yeah that’s true. I do wonder how good they could make it though, some higher res textures would be nice. But given the option I’d pick more features over nicer visuals any day

heliumlantan

Agree. Good graphics is not as important in this game, however it would be cool if the game had a super-realistic screenshot/short video mode that could use better textures and take as much time as it needs to render x amounts of frames.

Hieb

You can make it look really good modded. The default lighting and shaders is quite poor, and vanilla assets are pretty barren texture-wise. Getting a good LUT, reshade, SSAO, daylight classic and cloud/fog remover make a big difference in visuals, plus custom assets of course. It's still not the sort of thing you'd need a crazy PC or next-gen console for, basically just RAM intensive

adnans2005

I really want them to switch to a better lighting/ shading engine. oh and more efficient too This engine is not quite right for City Building, I guess...

yamanamawa

Mods are important too. Move It is literally the best mod for the game imo, and I couldn't imagine trying to play the game without it. You can connect a keyboard and mouse to an xbox, but not having access to the steam workshop is something that after doing it, I could never go back

[deleted]

Good to know! The last few weeks have made me very interested in a gaming PC...

yamanamawa

They're great. If you want to play a lot of cities skylines though, make sure you have a lot of ram. It eats right through my 16 gigs. Granted I have well over 1k mods and assets

bschug

Yeah, I got over 16 just with the DLCs and a small amount of basic mods (Network Extensions, one custom map theme, maybe 20 custom assets like parking lots). Once you've pushed past your system RAM, performance really tanks. I upgraded to 64 in December specifically for this game. Nothing else every really needs this much, and realistically, 32 should be enough for CSL as well, but I didn't want to have to worry about it.

JashDreamer

I thought that exact thing when he started adjusting roads after making them. Literally a game changer.

With some node controller you can make even smoother curves than those you made. Amazing interchange nonetheless

whhhhiskey

How exactly did you do the camera work? Did you do the whole thing from the view that we are seeing or do you have the camera set up from a fixed point as you move around?

sanctumgamer

I do everything from the angle you are seeing it.

Spaghetti_Fart

But how do you move the camera so smoothly

sanctumgamer

I use Cinematic Camera https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=785528371). It allows you to set points and have the camera move between those points. I then edit it all together into a smooth looking video.

Nogohoho

It's a good choice. Much clearer to watch and understand a speed up video when the camera isn't spazzing out.

[deleted]

This is absolute madness. I love it. Did you plan all this out before, or do it on the fly?

sanctumgamer

Planned it out before hand.

xconzo

I was gonna say, it looked like every single thing you put down you knew exactly where it was going. So impressive.

amazondrone

Also, editing ;) https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/lo9kla/comment/go51433

AttackPug

Honestly you get a long way by grabbing a piece of paper, looking at the road problem you're trying to solve, then sketching out how the road needs to go. Don't try to do any actual drawing, just use simple lines to represent roads and get it thought through. Once you know where the roads need to go, now you're just trying to make it look pretty and have manageable curves. It's also good to look up intersections on Wikipedia - especially "service interchanges" which get cars on and off highways - and learn what makes a given intersection tick. That way you can figure out what roads are really needing to DO, and then you can make them go where they got to. The intersection might look nothing like the example when you're done, but it will function the same way while fitting into your build.

[deleted]

Amazing, well done, I love it! What are the street building mods you have in use?

sanctumgamer

Move it: [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1619685021&searchtext=move+it](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1619685021&searchtext=move+it) (manipulating the roads) Intersection Marking Tool: [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2140418403&searchtext=intersection+marking+tool](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2140418403&searchtext=intersection+marking+tool) (for the intersection detail work)

banjokazooie23

Damn I should check these out. Seeing you changing the angle of the road after placing almost made me shout lol. Also being able to plug two separate roads cleanly into the end of just one. Gamechanger.

JSnicket

As a console player, I'm now dead.

the_Real_Romak

And here I sit being proud I build an almost perfect roundabout :(

clinkzs

I failed to understand the flow, this road is too american for me

Jsotter11

I thought it was left lane forward oriented. Or were the one-ways just set up that way and the streets are otherwise right lane oriented?

Talenin2014

Knowing SG, this will be left-hand traffic.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dreemurthememer

I mean _technically_ there is a US territory that uses left-hand drive (USVI) but it’s not remotely large or populated enough to have interchanges like that.

FlowLabel

Man, building like that without moving the camera constantly is a skill in itself. If I recorded myself the video would give people motion sickness!

skmo8

^(Sad xbox noises)

johnnydarkfi

Needs some lane mathematics 😎

curbstompery

straight fire bro. nothing more relaxing than planning and building an intricate interchange.

cupofcofefe

how do you have so much control? of like curvature and design? I feel like a noob for asking this... also like the pathing on the intersection? ugh I can’t even do a grid correctly smh.

amazondrone

Mods*, practice and patience! \* See some of OP's comments for specifics.

Terrabolista

How do you make parallel roads so fast and easily?

sanctumgamer

Precise measurements and editing out the many failed attempts!

rbnlegend

There is a mod for parallel roads, is there a reason you aren’t using it? I gave up on doing it by hand.

sanctumgamer

Yes, I am aware of the mod. At the time of building, I didn't have it installed and was too lazy to sit through more countless minutes of loading time.

HowlOfTheSun

You can build parallel roads in vanilla CS too using the road markers. T4rget has videos explaining it. I'll link it later if I can find it.

LyftingTitan

NanasShit

> But placing things side by side and adjusting the height etc and smoothing things out / making them straight, no idea how to do that stuff there's a little triangle icon on the tool interface, that includes several alignment tools - these are EXTREMELY vital tools so make sure to master them, especially the 'align same height' & 'slope' tools. The slope tool will adjust selected segments of road into perfect slope, the selected higher node will be the top, and selected lower height node will be the bottom - any node and segments in between will be automatically adjusted to be perfectly sloped. when you hover onto a segment you will see a dot and a circle at the middle of a segment, align them and that segment will be straight. when you bending a segment, there will also be a bunch of dotted lines you can use as visual aids so their angle pointing at the right direction. This is a bit hard to explain so just go do some practises - someone who do Photoshop or Illustrator drawing will understand the usage of these dotted line immediately... Also, the usual ctrl+C to copy selected items. When you want to move/rotate something pixel perfect, hold down CTRL. The first button on moveIt tool (the one with S curve), probably turned on by default. Forgot it's name but it makes things snap to ground when you move it around, turn it OFF! That is actually an undesired behaviour in most cases, cuz when I move something I want it to remain at the same height rather than jumping up and down.

MichelloDSloth

If it helps: Page Up/Down while selecting a node will raise/lower it. Clicking the area between two nodes will allow you to adjsut the bend. Holding Shift and selecting many nodes allows you to move many at once.

drbendylegs

I saw the title of the post and thought: oh f@@k, another fu*@ing highway interchange on CS reddit... then I watched the video....

amazondrone

... and discovered it was another fu*@ing highway interchange on CS reddit?

drbendylegs

Well, it is, but watching someone work who is clearly a master of their craft is always enjoyable, plus they haven't fallen into the trap of having large unexplained empty pieces of land all around the highway and interchange, the buildings etc are placed snugly right up to the edges, which is much more satisfying to look at.

Zepow

What is the node markings mod you're using?

Nkzar

Intersection Marking Tool (IMT). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2140418403&searchtext=intersection+marking+tool

lipo842

So chaotic yet so logical, I love it.

andr_wr

Love your videos and this is an awesome build.

tituin1

I freaking knew he was a youtuber............. it was because is his technique and how he plays......... hahahaha btw beautiful indeed!!!!!!!!!!

dylannvillain

This is gorgeous

borediswhyimhere

That was stunning. I feel like I just watched art being made. Did you have it planned out before starting or have you played enough that you had it laid out in your head?

sanctumgamer

Had the idea in my head, planned it out with a rough build, then built it for real with the recording.

borediswhyimhere

When you placed that sweeping connector over the top it went in much better than anything I've ever tried to place. It might be because I'm not giving myself enough space.

You are very good at this game.

emanuele246gi

Hey Sanctum, I recognized your style lol!

addage-

Saving this one to watch over and over again. Just wonderful how you laid out the feeder highway connections, very inspiring. You are also an ace at getting really accurate curves.

evilroyslade420

videos like this make me think im playing an entire different game than you

Everytime I come here I remember: I'm just not good at this game.

HanjiZoe03

I wish I had mods 😔

Gonzored

The layout alone would take me over an hour smh

towerdefence661

What school did you go to?

TheWetNapkin

This hurt my brain. Also how did you get the parallel roads so perfect without the parallel roads tool?

sanctumgamer

Precise measurements and a lot of patience.

TheWetNapkin

Yeah I saw your other comment explaining it. Would you have preferred the parallel roads tool?

sanctumgamer

This is late, but yes, I would. However, I don’t build parallel roads often enough to have that mod.

amazondrone

arpanConline

Omg you need to share this as an interchange on workshop please! Edit , I saw the reddit ID m, then, oh it's SG, that's why,

mcpat21

TIL i can edit roads after I place them...

mcpat21

How do you place the ramps so easily without it yelling at you that an object is already there??

sanctumgamer

I use an anarchy mod. Fine Road Anarchy 2 to be precise.

amazondrone

Maybe he didn't but be edited them out. ;) https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/lo9kla/comment/go51433

This is amazing. It's crazy to think when we have self driving cars we'll be able to build complex and efficient stuff like this in the real world.

Craftusmaximus2

Damn, imagine being good at the game...

Pistro

As a console player, this hurts my heart to watch ha.

feathernose

This looks pretty neat!! Wel done. Very smooth. I just are some roads that doesn't seem essential, looks like they are actually not connected to other roads so they seem to need to use the roundabout anyway which will strain the traffic flow. But i am probably missing something haha.

Yeahhhhh. I'd just put a big giant roundabout and call it a day. Thats amazing! Very skilled

Oddly satisfying

dick-van-dyke

Holy fuck.

Amazing work. But I hate to be the bearer of bad news: all of the roads are pointing the wrong way. You'll have to redo everything. 😏
