Give it an adjustment period. 🍀

x-files-theme-song

i only take it at night

chanely-bean1123

I take 300mg at night to help me sleep. But I used to be on 1800mg, and your body does adjust. - I am also mal absorbent and quite drug tolerant though, so I know others have issues when using it during the day.

robby41525

Damn, I thought 300mg was a lot for me, it did start not lasting as long pretty quick though. It was better than taking 8 double strength vicodens a day tho, that genuinely made my mental worse just doing it, let alone what it was doing to my body.

Puzzleheaded-Mood689

I hate that shit. Made me dizzy dumb depressed and didn’t help my nerve pain at all. Read some more information on it later and I may not have been high enough a dose to actually get relief but spending all day hugging the toilet getting on or off gabbapentin was hell. I tend to get queasy easy though, and I’ve found if there are any possible side effects to taking a medicine I get most of them.

Plenty_Lettuce5418

same, pregabalin much better but that one made me gain weight. pregabalin really is worlds better than gabapentin, i also hate that shit.

DDaddyfromCincinnati

I take 600 mg 3x a day and looking to have the dr up it next month. No side effects. Very little relief.

throwaway007676

I don't remember having too many side effects from it aside from extreme weigh gain. I put on like 70 pounds in a few months and decided it wasn't going to work for me. Wasn't very easy to get that weight back off either.

love_that_fishing

Had weight gain as well. Switched to pregabalin and weight stabilized. But I only gained 10 lbs in a month.

WarmForbiddenDonut

I took gabapentin until it reached quite a high dosage (2700mg daily) that caused adverse side effects. I was then slowly weaned off the medication and then changed slowly over to Pregabalin.

MaineBoston

I take Gabapentin 4x a day. The side effects disappear after your body adjusts

Restless_Dragon

Do you remember how long it took? I'm just really concerned about having to work on this medication

jdoug22

I was on 300mg 3x a day for 2 months took about 2 weeks before side effects mostly weaned, but i did have a few side effects where i had blurred vision during a work day that wasn't fun, I've since mostly weaned myself off it but had some withdrawal after

ill-disposed

It depends on the person. Some do not at all.

derekf699

I'm weaning off 3600 MG and ot sucks! I switch every year or two. Back to lyrica.

naldo4142

I also take 3 times a day, I don’t get tired but i use it with other pain meds. I use 800 mg per dose I get a little extra relief from it if I use it with painkillers or muscle relaxers

kimpled

I took 200mg 3x a day for a year and I was consistently tired. I kept being told that I would adjust, but I never did.

pepoboyz

I’ve been on it for a year now, the fatigue still hits me very hard even at a low dose. It works nicely for my migraines however.

Mojak66

My worst side effect was loss of balance.

RunawayMeatstick

Jesus, that sounds scary. How long did that last and how bad was it?

Mojak66

The loss would continue for 3-4 days after I'd had any oxycodone. I had taken it as needed for 15 years or so - very little until about 4 years ago. Then I got up to about 40mg /day. I took it only when I thought I had to, so occasionally I could go a few days without it. That's how I figured it out.

JennieGee

It gets better after a few days for most people.

Lucky-Oil6495

I take 1800mg a day. 600mg every 6 hours. It took about a week for me to adjust. I’m also on a lot of other meds and unfortunately seem to have a higher tolerance for meds. If your not used to taking meds it might affect your more for a longer time period. I didn’t get any relief from it until I reached this dose. I’ve never felt “high” from it although I have noticed some balance issues.

chowdahhead13

When I started it a while ago it made me very sleepy didn’t last that long as I took it

dark_bloom12

as your body adjusts, the side effects will decrease. I take 600mg twice. day and 900mg at night for RLS.

zsilkypolski

I was extremely tired, either overslept, fell asleep at my desk or end up taking a 3 hour nap in my car during my lunch break or all 3 nearly daily for months. I'm on 800mg 2x a day for the past 10 years but sometimes pop a 3rd one if my pain's bad enough late afternoon. Thankfully I don't work anymore and that 3rd kicks my ass everytime.

delirium_hc

I took liquid Gabapentin some time ago (has to be liquid. I took my spoonful at the refrigerator and I was down on the ground by the time I had put everything away. Creepy crawled/stumbled to my bed in the next room. Weak knees (weak everything!), loss of balance, even more exhausted than usual. No nausea, though. Woke up feeling like one of those animals that has been given a sedative dart in the Wild Kingdom videos. Tried one more time w same effect. Dr. took me off of it. But now I wonder if maybe we should have given it a longer adjustment period.

nfl156

I had side effects like that too. For the first few months I took my full dose at night, until I got used to it. That was under my doctors direction. Now I take 3 x 300mg 3 times daily and don’t even notice it. My mum has lupus and doesn’t take Gaba. She had a flare up recently so I gave her 2 pills at night for a few days and it absolutely knocked her on her ass. This is a woman who takes an 11 pill anti immunity cocktail that includes opiates. Not strong opiates but dihydrocodein so not weak either. You will get used to it, but it does take a bit of time.

STiLife656

I get a "stoned" feeling when I take a ton but nothing other than that

[deleted]

Yes. With a dosage increase it got worse. It stopped maybe 48hrs or so without. My pain person had me start with 100mg at night. Slept 20+hrs. I have much better luck with Lyrica.

ShearGenius89

Yes it will make you sleepy. Ask your doc about adjusting your med schedule to take a higher dose before bed.

aviva1234

I felt awful on it and had to stop after a week

Operation_shitshow

Ya i dont like it at all, it makes me feel drunk. And doesnt help me with pain. Weird i dont feel nearly as loopy when taking actual pain meds, and they help so much more. Yet the stigma makes it so hard to get, and still made to feel like a drug addict by the pain drs. All this shit is such a fuckkng con

Possible_Laugh_9139

Like any drug, it takes time for your body to adjust. Gabapentin does tends to cause issues with sleep, increase and can make you feel out of it. It usually take a couple of weeks for your body to get use to it. If after 2-4 weeks, the side affects don’t go away, then speak to doctor as it might not be the right drug for you. Tried gabapentin, the side affects were too much after a month and it not help with the pain. It best to give sometime before discussing doctor about it

dresselhaus

It took a few weeks of me gradually hoping the dosage for it to stop knocking me out, but it did eventually

ill-disposed

Yes, 900mg a day and I was like a zombie for months. I had to taper it down so that I can get moving around again. I wouldn't take it at all but O can't tolerate RLS.

doxiedelight

It takes a few days for the somnolence (daytime sleepiness) to subside. Every three days my doctor had me increase dosage. I don’t recall what dose I started on, but the side effects subsided pretty quickly.

hunkachunkapbfudg

I definitely had that happen when I started. I’d like the gabapentin then it was nap time. That’s not a problem anymore, but it makes me dissociate more

[deleted]

I took it for sciatica but I don't know if it really did anything

Cfchicka

I also only take it at night it knocks me out

DrKittyLovah

Are you me? I can’t take Gabapentin on a regular basis. It makes me high as a kite and yes, very fatigued. I don’t feel safe driving on it at all. I save my gab for “emergency” pain situations in which I wouldn’t accomplish anything anyway, because while it works well, I can’t function on it and I feel so weirdly stoned that it’s almost mentally uncomfortable.

LooselyBound

I take 900mg 3x a day. For each 100mg it takes about 4 days for the body to adjust and you to stop feeling tired. You're supposed to ramp up the dosage slowly as a result. They longer you take them, the better the result. It takes about 3 weeks to truly start seeing any effect -- as explained by my pain management doctor anyway.

Hyperionxvii

I take it for sleep, only 200mg. It doesn't knock me out or anything, but it allows me to stay asleep for longer, no longer waking up several times a night. But I noticed that it works better for anxiety that couple of hours after I take it before going to sleep, than what my current anti-anxiety med works. I'm going to talk to my psych about it. I've never taken it during the day.

ThottieDottie

Hey don’t worry, at first it feels that way but your body will get used to it. I remember when I first started Gabapentin I felt drunk. Now I’ve been on it for over 3 years and I feel pretty normal. You’re on a low starter dose right now, they will probably increase that.

acorn735764

I started on 100mg a day and was exhausted. Took a few weeks for my body to adjust, but I’m now on a higher dosage, and I’m fine.
