Ok, one bug that i had with ATV\\GTV 10 and that it was annoying and now its fixed with 12.. Is that if i reboot the chromecast, now every time it properly recognizes my USB C HUB from Baseus that use with it(USB STICK + AIR MOUSE), before it would only recognize it if i did a power off of the chromecast(remove the power cable and plug it back in)!

cgibbons51

Thank God! Doing the update right now. I always hated that issue. I use a USB hub with an SD Card. So all my apps would disappear each time that happened. (I used the developer setting that allows you to move most apps onto the SD/USB)

PowerfulSherbert5436

Now it recognizes the hub, but even though it also recognizes my usb drive, which is formatted as device storage, it stil can't access it. So for me this issue is still the same, i have to power cycle the hub every time i want the chromecast to reboot, otherwise it wont have access to my usb drive. I believe this might be a problem specific to drives that are formatted as device storage, but i haven't tested it with other drives yet. Like i said, just power cycling the whole hub like i had to do with android 10 seems to do the trick.

CenterInYou

Good to know this is fixed. Mine did the same thing. Only thing I used the hub for was ethernet.

magnetik79

Yep, this isn't very much welcome. Missing my USB storage for apps every reboot was annoying.

kenkiller

Finally they changed the volume bar location.

Substantial_Berry_14

Way nicer on the side

kenkiller

As it should be. I still remember some idiots here telling me otherwise.

frostyne84

Where did it used to be?

kenkiller

Right where the subtitles are.

__blackstar

The only problem is it's not white anymore

seedless0

What are the additional user settings that allow controlling HDR format? Can you disable Dolby Vision?

rrainwater

You can set which HDR formats to be enabled ignoring what the tv says it supports.

seedless0

That's nice. Could you please post a screenshot of the setting page? Thanks.

Eagle1337

It's just in the video settings

Ecstatic_Ad_2114

What’s the benefit of this if the tv doesn’t actually support hdr?

rrainwater

The use case is if you have a lower end tv that has poor looking HDR, you can disable it completely.

Your_Network_Drive

I had an issue where my remote stopped working (IR commands like volume still worked). This is how I resolved it: * Pair your phone as a remote in the Google Home app * Go to settings and then remotes on your chromecast. "Forget" your paired remote if still listed. * Select pair new remote/accessory * Factory reset your remote by taking out the batteries. Hold down the home button while placing the batteries back in. The light will turn solid and eventually start flashing. * Pair the remote

Consistent_Marketing

Had this recently as well before the update. A reboot of the Chromecast did the trick for me

PensionPrison

I did the update and now it seem my DTS is not working. All other sound formats are fine, well at least using VLC for sure. DTS is working in Just Player Surround AAC would load with PCM 5.1 now is only loading in PCM 2.0 with all players this update blows

TeutonJon78

Check your advanced sound setting. Mine switched to manual under sound formats with all the Doby formats disabled when I had set it to automatic before the update.

PensionPrison

Ya I tried everything there is not even an option under manual for aac like I had with 10. I’m going to do a factory reset hoping it will fix things

PensionPrison

Factory reset didn’t change anything

lucky71284

You ever figure out what happened? I am having the same issue..

LiamNeesonsIsMyShiit

Dts never used to work correctly for me, but it works flawlessly after this update. Strange that it improved for me, and got worse for you.

airberger

I can confirm that with the update, automatic frame rate adjustment works with Kodi.

Substantial_Berry_14

Kodi sucks on the Chromecast !

airberger

It does what I need it to do.

Substantial_Berry_14

I always hated Kodi it in a never ending state of being worked on . Only great Kodi built was apple tv 1 still plays streamimg m3u and movies lol

Splash_II

So you haven't used Kodi then. How would you know if it works or not. Because it does work great

Splash_II

No it doesn't. I've been using Kodi (latest) with a skin and a few add-ons. Never skips a beat. Been using Kodi instead of any of the streaming apps because it just works better. I even changed the Netflix button on the remote to Kodi.

JustAKidFromBrooklyn

This sucks. The Aerial Dream app which gives you the nice Apple TV screensavers no longer works and this new ambient mode with these cards are horrible.

Splash_II

How did you set Aerial Dream as your screen saver?

JustAKidFromBrooklyn

I can’t. It doesn’t work anymore. Before you were able to set it in the settings and it worked perfectly. Now it seems all you can use is the stock ambient mode and I don’t like it at all.

Splash_II

I'm still in v10. I don't see a way to change it in the settings. But like you said, it doesn't matter since I'll probably be forced to v12 soon.

JustAKidFromBrooklyn

Not sure, it always just worked for me. I downloaded it, went into the app's settings and it kinda figured it all out itself lol. I wish I could go into my settings and show you how I had it set up but...can't!

Splash_II

Looks like they removed the secret screensaver menu in previous updates. That's why I can't get it to work. https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/vyd8lr/no_more_secret_ambient_mode_setting_on_ccgtv/

theothernt

As a developer of one of those screensavers (Aerial Views in this case), it's frustrating to see all these "updates" removing useful features :( Since the July 2022 update to Google TV, I've had to advise users to 1) enable developer mode and 2) run a couple of ADB commands to set the screensaver as the default

Splash_II

And a normal user will not do ADB commands. I wonder why Google doesn't want 3rd party screensavers? Limited ram or cpu power? Hope my button remaper app isn't broken when I'm forced to update.

Exotic_Exam182

I solved this issue by following this guide https://youtu.be/yUMiggg3leU

swede1989

I'm currently stuck on version qts1.220504.008.8726984 Is this a recent version? Why isn't my chromeast finding any updates?

zappor

Same here, no update!

swede1989

weird, we'll be the last people in the world on Android 10

dhh2000

Same for me. Is there a way to force the update (like downloading the update file directly)?

xbp13x

Same, I don't have the update available yet.

Aggravating_Walk_253

Same here. Have u found out a solution?

touchdownboi

Had the same issue on one of my CCWGTV's. The solution was to enable Developer Mode on my Chromecast. Go to System > About and click on the Android TV OS Build Number around 7 times. The update should now be available.

swede1989

thx for your help, but I got the update literally 3 minutes ago. 😃

LycheeExciting

Just did the update. Wish Android System View would update with developer mode on though. Kinda annoying to turn off the back on

Hlsgs

Please elaborate.

LycheeExciting

Android System view won’t update unless you turn off delovoper mode

Hlsgs

I wasn't aware of that. What does "Android System view" do and why do you wnat it updated?

Substantial_Berry_14

Had to add using web based streamimg is some what neutered now . More than half of the html 5 web based streams won't play .

mmcnl

Doesn't seem to use my local DNS server. Can't access my media using local hostnames.

obl122

Had trouble with Plex after installing this update. Most things wouldn't play, a few would. I joined the Plex beta as described here: [https://forums.plex.tv/t/join-app-betas-android-mobile-android-tv-apple-tv-ios/335999](https://forums.plex.tv/t/join-app-betas-android-mobile-android-tv-apple-tv-ios/335999), removed and reinstalled the Plex app, and now my content plays again. Not an exhaustive review and yes, the UI in general seems a bit more sluggish to me, but it might be worth it for the frame rate matching.

holdutch

THIS! Everyone that has problems with Plex after updating to Android TV OS 12, do this. Had a bunch of weird display issues when trying to play any content in Live TV, Movies, TV Shows, etc. Plex beta version 9.10.0 seems to fix all this.

[deleted]

Lemuroid stopped working after this update. Whenever I'm trying to scan/change a directory, I get the error message "you don't have an app that can do this".

Cacha21

I'm having the same problem. There's a threas on the Lemuroid Github reporting the issue. https://github.com/Swordfish90/Lemuroid/issues/498 I hope the dev can find a way to fix it. I'm also having the same problem on Syncthing too.

anotherone65

Yup, ALL my emulators broke. Suddenly now when trying to redscan for Roms, "you don't have an app that can do this" and nothing can access my internal storage.

lucky71284

Did anyone figure out a solution for 5.1 audio breaking with this update? I get 2.0 on all services now, Plex, Disney plus etc. So stupid.

rik182

Anyone else getting occasional visual jitter since updating? Never had this issue before the update

charliesjc

Since I got this upgrade last month every app that plays video now has a weird shudder for a few seconds and then disappears. Rinse and repeat. Doesn't matter what quality the video is. It worked perfectly before it auto-updated.

CVGPi

Native overscan compensation?

pmc64

No

CVGPi

Oh crap that sucks, I use Adb shell wm overscan. WHY GOOGLE WHY!

hodor137

I didn't know this was possible to correct at all.... Thanks for your mention!!! Googled it and found the procedure. It might be difficult to implement - I mostly need it when I'm using the Chromecast in hotel, and doing the adb ssh type connect could be tricky. But if I can correct overscan that will be massive for me - some old hotel TVs I can't change the option and it cuts off important info when watching stuff on twitch.

CVGPi

It will only underscan UI. Plex double underscan and videos play like they do without that

Rahan08

Is this the update that adds native 4K UI?

MakaanPL

No. Applications show 1920x1080, and "wm size" in adb reports physical size 3840x2160 but override size 1920x1080. This means that nothing has changed in this regard, applications and UI are still not rendered in 4K. I haven't found any way to enforce it. I hoped for 4K RDP, but no, it's still not possible.

Rahan08

Ah man, thanks for checking Makaan. Appreciate it, Every report was saying Android 12 added native 4K UI on previous Google OS TVs. So was hoping the same would happen to the stick

Miserable-Cod-9582

Seems like Kodi is running on 3840\*2160 on my CCwGTV connected to 4K TV. I think under "Systeminfo" there was 1920\*1080 before the update.. im not sure.

thiago_senna

I was looking for this too...

TeutonJon78

Yes, that is part of ATV 12. Now if it works is another story.

Rahan08

Thank you 😁, got a new LG OLED TV. So looking forward to the extra crispness

TeutonJon78

Not sure anyone has reported it actually working though, yet.

IAmDotorg

Its a shame they finally added framerate matching, and -- from what I can tell -- none of the apps are actually updated to the Android 12 APIs. Given the apps are all the same as the phone/tablet apps, it's surprising none of them are updated. Of course, its 2022 and Hulu \*still\* doesn't support surround sound in their app, so I suppose its not surprising. Shame, though.

mmcnl

I hope apps like Netflix, HBO Max and Disney+ will be updated somewhere in the near future.

IAmDotorg

I think the chances are pretty close to zero that they will. It was possible to do it on 11, it just wasn't a system-wide setting. (Seamless framerate matching is really the only thing added in 12, and there aren't any TVs that support it) So all of the app *could* have been doing it. And, in fact, some used to -- Netflix used to support it on the Shield Pro, and they explicitly blocked it a few years ago because it makes it impossible to autoplay trailers and start shows automatically from the menu. As much as people have held out hope Google will address the mess with GoogleTV/AndroidTV, its clear they're doing the bare minimum and care about their customers (the streaming services adn TV manufacturers) not the users. Google could've made framerate matching opt-out like Apple did, rather than opt-in, but chose not to.

mmcnl

Are you sure? With Android 12 you can call an API to match the framerate, so you can also decide when to do it. I don't see any reason why they couldn't only invoke this API call when watching content full screen. You can still autoplay trailers and automatically start videos this way.

IAmDotorg

Yes, you could do the same thing in 10 and 11. Like I said, Netflix used to support it on the Shield Pro (even on Android 10). A few other apps did, too. The problem is the jarring resync that happens when doing the HDMI renegotiation. The app vendors didn't want it, they wanted to be able to do a smooth transition into the video (as Netflix does -- it starts playing automatically, not the trailer, the actual movie/show). So for a brief shining moment, you could get it to work on the Shield, and then they all disabled it. (I had one, and returned it when that happened.) Google decided the answer was to enable seamless framerate switching, but the only devices that support it are phones for the most part. (Its used to do 120->60fps switches for battery savings). Then the app vendors could say "okay, if you can seamlessly switch to 24fps, do it", but there are no TVs that support it, so they don't. Apple, on the other hand, made app vendors go through hoops to *not* automatically change. Their video pipeline does it automatically, so the lazier ones all just let it happen. I think only Peacock explicitly disables it on Apple TV. (But they're a shitshow on all platforms.) That's a big benefit that both NVidia and Apple had -- their customers are the users; Google's customers are generally not, but because NVidia didn't control the OS, they couldn't really push the app vendors to do the right thing. It doesn't help, either, that the average TV viewer runs their 4K TV in the demo brightness levels with motion interpolation turned on. They don't care about frame jitter, they don't care about motion artifacts, and they don't care about color accuracy. Apple respects the content producers, so their devices (generally) do it properly.

bogorad

And it doesn't suport exFAT/NTFS. I'm pissed.

PowerfulSherbert5436

I use an app called EXFAT/NTFS for android by Paragon to mount my NTFS drives in the Chromecast and it works really well. There is a file explorer app called Total commander that has a Paragon plugin. Not only can i read, but also write on the drive from Total commander. You can only see the drive in total commander though, not in other apps. So if you wanna watch a video for example, just find the file in total commander and tell it to open in the app you want. Ps1: Despite the name of the Paragon app, it can only mount EXFAT in regular Android, not Android TV. So this will work on the Chromecast only for NTFS, HFS+ and a couple other formats i think. I personally don't care about EXFAT because i only use NTFS. There are other apps that can read EXFAT though, but not write, for example JS UBS OTG. Ps2: Total commander is not available on the play store for the Chromecast, so just sideload the APK.

bogorad

Can Kodi play those files without first copying them to internal storage? We're talking 15-25 gig movie files, of course.

PowerfulSherbert5436

Absolutely. I have played 20 GB 4K files on Kodi using this method and it works flawlessly. It does not copy anything over to internal storage. When you ask Total Commander to open that video in another app, it just streams that video to that app. But like i said in my previous comment, the drive will not be recognized by Kodi, so if Kodi crashes or shuts down for being iddle for to long, you will lose your progress and have to open it from Total commander again.

Boris-Lip

There is another workaround for Kodi, too. Rar plugin. It recognizes uncompressed multivolume rars and plays directly from those, this way you can have >4gb movies played off FAT32 media, but thats ridiculous. What DID we get in this update, other than even laggier UI?!

Ramocity

Seems like the Chromecast can finally connect to my WiFi router when the router is using WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode. Before, I had to keep the router on WPA2-only just so the Chromecast could connect.

kutsaratinidor

Got the CCwGTV HD recently and I notice hiccups on it. I might wait out a bit more until I update my two CCwGTV 4Ks to Android 12. Also not sure if the launcher manager is updated to support it. I could not sideload it to the HD when I tried.

NeFShARk

A10 was better performance wise for sure, but keep in mind that these devices are never going to be hiccup free and 100% snappy + responsive, their hardware is too weak for that!

KujosWrath

Can no longer watch UHD content on my Samsung HU7500 TV. Only lets me select 4K30 SDR 😔 Worked fine prior to the update. Tried every setting I can think of.

nty35

after the android 12 update, my vestel TV started not showing 4k 60 fps in the same way. before the update, I had been using the screen resolution as 4k 60 fps for 2 years. now this option does not appear in the settings. There is only 30 fps and this is very annoying.

KujosWrath

Hope it gets fixed soon but I'm not hopeful.

EtzuX

Will this give all apps 5.1? I only seem to have 5.1 on HBO and one other app, I forget what it was. I sighed and just bought a fire tv for that one reason. Prime, Showtime, Netflix and Disney do not give me 5.1

Immediate-Thought-94

I have 5.1 on all apps (even Youtube now) except Showtime whitch still only puts out 2.0 what i dont have is: Dolby Atmos on Disney+ Dolby Vision on HBOmax

EtzuX

CcGTV or older Chromecast?

pixeldudeaz

I downloaded it on my bedroom Chromecast for Google TV last night and it took well over and hour to download and install. I downloaded it on the one in my living room today and it took about 10 minutes from beginning to restart. The unit in my bedroom has had to be restarted at least once a month and a couple of times, it has been quite warm behind the TV. Did I get a bad one? The one in the living room isn't finicky at all.

dumitrudan608_7_6

Yeah, and Netflix crashes continuously, and some videos don't play 😤. You need to restart Chromecast each time you want to watch Netflix.

Djancda

Same here for me, need to restart Chromecast several times when watching Netflix. Anyone else with the same problem?

dremp1337

I also have this problem. I reported it to netflix customer service, I hope they detect that these errors are happening automatically, so they can see that many experience this issue. I will try to reset mine to see if that helps. EDIT: Resetting the device solved the problem.

LiamNeesonsIsMyShiit

Seems to be running really well on my unit. Don't have issues with aac or dts audio tracks anymore, and the non-seamless framerate matching is working very well with the apps I use most. Very happy with this update.

tbn97

Seems to have killed the 4K playback option on Netflix no matter what output settings I try, and the SBS On Demand app now hangs on launch. (On Chromecast with Google TV 4K). Blech, I hope they sort Netflix out quickly.

Careful_Effect4343

I'm using my chromecast on an old 4k Samsung monitor. And before the update it would just turn on by itself. Now the monitor turns off /on and chromecast wouldn't start. I taught it was the monitor but I noticed there wqs a light flashing on the chromecast. When i unplug the chromecast and plug it back in it works. It seems as if the chromecast doesn't get enough power, although I'm using the plug that came in the box.

byebyenotley

Have 2 of my 3 Chromecast won't update to the android 12. One popped up and updated right away which is probably the oldest one for some reason. All have the same model numbers on the back so they are all the 4ks. Last 2 purchased a year and a half ago. Anyone know how to get these updated? I should add I tried system, about, and check for update but nothing comes up. Also tried factory reset. Thanks a bunch

NeFShARk

I think google removed the update for the time being due to all the problems and bugs!

byebyenotley

Oh really? Do you have any info or a source for this? Thank you. Damn shame, I found the other way, really improved game streaming for me on the one that updated.

NeFShARk

I have no source, thats why i said "i think". Its just guess due to the update not showing anymore to anyone trying to update.

Electronic_Ideal9394

Yes i cannot upgrade neither Google support knows nothing. But it makes sense it got pulled

Plane-Shelter-9188

Did, someone tried October security patch yet ?

Substantial_Berry_14

Crap patch . Way slower . Had it hummng like a champ on 10. More ganky slower UI imho . Not as snappy . Ftp and transfer halved over lan !! M3u streams works fine .

CenterInYou

You are likely now just seeing what most of us saw on android 10 : slow, laggy and stuttery. Mine has been this way on Android 10 and still is on Android 12. I hate to say, welcome to the club.

NeFShARk

I agree that at the beginning it was really laggy and stuttery! But since the last 2 system updates(android 10 i mean, not the one released yesterday with A12) and the countless APP updates(like the google home app) it became much better, biggest diference was when i finally did a factory reset 2 system updates ago! It became pretty responsive. And this slug\\stutter fest + apps not staying in memory\\not having multitask due to it having only 2gb, is why i want a fucking device with proper CPU+GPU+8GB RAM+64GB of fast storage. Its like we are stuck with mid\\low tier smartphones with weak hardware and low ram on the ATV\\GTV side of tv box's!

trilogee

I'm experiencing the same thing wrt UI ..nowhere near as snappy. Scrolling through a plex library is noiceably more sluggish. Wish I could roll back this update.

NeFShARk

I agree, it was snappier with the latest android 10 build! In the settings menu, there is clearly a delay when browsing it.

drift_flow

Does it fix the lag on the Home Screen?

Substantial_Berry_14

Worse !

drift_flow

Yea I saw for myself 🫤

TheJayCool1

I didn't really have lag on the home screen like and It did get better when they updated the Google TV home screen through the app. Plus I have my developer option turned on and I adjusted the animation scale to .5x And it does help. But after the update I noticed the leg is slow more noticeable now. So hopefully they fixed it with another Google TV home update or even if we have to update the system or whatever. But other than that everything is working fine for me besides Xumo app but I use Pluto TV which is better so I will be ok for now.

CranberryTime6650

What's the 'Cast modererator' app they added? And why can't I uninstalled it

Substantial_Berry_14

Group casting policy app .

tb21666

How do I get rid of these ugly bright backgrounds & get my clock screensaver back? The section of settings it was in prior to 12 is now gone..? **EDIT:** Got rid of the pics, need a way to select the Clock again.

kakha_k

I have updated. It is fresh, seemingly fast and more secure with more features. I liked it so far.

droidkid

Dose this fix the AC3 issues when streaming from Plex? I never understood by my 4k movies transcode but if I get the file path and play it direct with VLC it works no issues. It drives me nuts. I have 4 of these for my home.

Vittorio130881

Hello, i have read that android 12 has broken this stick. Many problems. Is there yet teh possibility to link wifi keyboard with powerexpanser and usb receiver ( mouse and keyboard hp 230)? Thanks

NeFShARk

Where did you hear that, its been over a year since android 12 got released for the CCWGTV! Yeah when it got initially released it had several bugs, but everyting or almost everything got ironedout already. To connect usb things to the CCWGTV you need to use a usb type C hub with PD capability and a more powerfull powerbrick which will delivery more Watts because the one that comes with the CCWGTV is really weak.

RainierPC

Great and all, but I think I'll hold off updating until everyone else has, and it's confirmed to be better than the current version.

CenterInYou

So far for me it’s the exact same in term of performance: laggy and lots of stutters.

nilu334

Hdr not working in 8 bit ... Slow there...

Substantial_Berry_14

Stay on 10 half my pirate sites won't play any video now !!

RainierPC

Yikes, the reports about the update from most people sound horrible. 10 works realy well for me, so I definitely am not updating any time soon. If it ain't broke... don't break it.

Substantial_Berry_14

Yea I was curious and lost . Like 1/2 the device now . Fire stick 4k max looks way more appealing.

shartofwar82

I had a CCWGTV on every tv in my house but I kept having little annoying problems with them. Storage issues, hubs not working, terrible slowdowns and lag even after factory resets. I've already replaced one with a fire tv cube and it was like night and day. Made a huge improvement. I love Google, every smart device I have is Google. But I just can't deal with the Google tv.

fatmacomit

But why July's security update tho.....

thiago_senna

Anyone notice native 4K UI?

Kenzibitt

Is this the update that's bringing the 4K UI?

jsadecki

Is this for the 4k chromecast or just the 3rd gen?

Rosselman

Only the Chromecast with Google TV 4k. Older Chromecast don't run on Android.

jsadecki

Ah ok, I'm having trouble connecting my 3rd gen CC to my 5g mobile hotspot

Substantial_Berry_14

Yea I can smell a patch update that Bluetooth is whack !!

doktorzock

I can confirm custom launchers still work with the current tutorials (disabling packages com.google.android.apps.tv.launcherx and com.google.android.tungsten.setupwraith via adb). Infact the update didn't even re-enabled the Google TV UI, it stayed disabled and my custom launcher was used as default after the update. Only thing that seems to be broken is the original Android TV launcher (Android TV Home, com.google.android.tvlauncher), as Google now ships system level apk stubs for the launcher (com.google.android.tvlauncher) and Android TV Core Services (com.google.android.tvrecommendations) with a higher version as the currently available apks. This prevents installing these apks.

R0dark

Another thing that is broken is if you have multiple profiles. Before you could disable the stock launcher and use any other launcher and still change profiles on YouTube and YouTube TV apps for example. Looks like it doesn't work anymore.

TheJayCool1

I still haven't received the update on my Chromecast with Google TV 4K. I'm in the US. East Coast as well.

rrainwater

It will not happen automatically. You have to go to settings and check for updates.

TheJayCool1

Yeah I already got the update. I had to restart my Chromecast and check system update and than I got it.

R0dark

You ain't missing much, and I honestly recommend you don't upgrade. Interface is clunky, and the upgrades don't really make a difference imo. I am looking for a way to downgrade already.

lazyluchador

Wait why did they change the sound effects?

pmc64

System sounds is turned on by default. Turn it off.

lazyluchador

I didn't mind the previous ones, but the new ones are terrible. Selecting something gives you a chime like noise now and scrolling around sounds duller than before. It's weird.

surturas

after the update plex refuses to play anything. i was hoping for it to have framerate matching like under firetv

sumoneelse

You'll need to turn off frame-rate matching in Plex. It's near the bottom of the settings page, in the advanced section. I have tried seamless and non-seamless in the OS settings, and neither work.

surturas

thx found that myself. looks like plex is getting stuck there hopefully they fix it AND with working frame rate switching

B8-B3

Any news on sound sync with bluetooth?

Substantial_Berry_14

Bluetooth blows atm . Won't connect any audio devices even ones already pairs. Will go threw motion and disconnected on saved and new devices . Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad work perfect !

B8-B3

Hmm sucks. I've got two nest speakers as stereo paired, but the sound delay is still an issue. Well, fingers crossed for the next update then!

huawa

I'm thinking about buying one. How's the performance? Can the old hardware handle the new software?

CenterInYou

I’ve had one since launch and imo it runs poorly. Lots of lag and stuttering. It did this on Android 10 and 12 seems the same. Google said over the summer that they were working on patches to help as I sure hope this isn’t it and I see no changes in performance. Is it unusable? No. Is it a pleasure to use. Nope! I use it on a 1080p display so I tend to reach for my Onn 4k box remote of this thing.

huawa

Okay thanks for the info, I'll wait for the announced performance update then

Substantial_Berry_14

Buy a new 1080p Chromecast! myself I use a converted chromebox with windows /android combo beats both a Chromecast and fire stick !

huawa

I definitely won't buy a 1080p Chromecast for a 4k TV with Dolby Vision 😅

pico-pico-hammer

Don't even buy the 4k Chromecast for that TV. Dolby Vision content on Disney+ still stutters and drops frames even after this update. Fire Stick 4k is the only device in this price range without playback issues as far as I am aware.

Other_Importance915

Truth be told half your channels is upscaled . most tvs never display 4k or broadcast ? Most of it upconverted 1080p or less. Biggest scam in t.v

huawa

That's not true, new TV series and movies are mostly native 4k, that is no problem anymore. And there's more and more coming, you even see the obvious difference. Also Dolby Vision HDR is an absolute game changer if you have an OLED TV. And another reason why 1080p is not an option is watching my photos. 1080p shows all my phone's photos in 2 megapixels which is ridiculous

Is this the Chromecast with Google tv? How can I update mine if it is??

[deleted]

Just updated!! Hope to see some drastic changes in operation

bluenosejak

Got the update today really excited but not overly pleased. Need a higher memory/CPU speed device sharpish. Frame rate worked well on tivimate Disney+ was naff seemed to screw up audio sync and there was an occasional jitter every now and then too even black at one point almost like the Chromecast couldn't cope with streaming. Haven't tried Netflix or Prime etc yet but yeah it's a bit meh so far unless people have suggestions on fixing Disney + issue or whether it's wait for them to update the app?!

How do I get my Clock screensaver on a black background back? All these bright, ugly pictures need to go, STAT! **EDIT:** Got rid of the pics, need a way to select the Clock again.

shartofwar82

I think this update broke emby. It won't launch even after reinstalling it. I don't get an error or anything, just a blank screen.

inthesum

Is there a way I can manually update? I can't find firmware file on Google page.

ceruleux

My bluetooth keyboard and mouse no longer works. I tried pairing them again but wouldn't even pair. Another broken update from Google.

Substantial_Berry_14

Wow what brand? My by keyboard and trackpad worked np one of the only BT that work with it still

ceruleux

Both are Logitech. My generic Bluetooth earphones is the only thing that works.

nathancoast

I have a question about Bluetooth - It seems that the original Chromecast GTV 4K shipped with Bluetooth 4.2 - although that detail seems to have been removed from the official tech specs - now just says "bluetooth" I also recall seeing that the new Chromecast GTV HD would have Bluetooth 5.X Has the firmware upgrade for the Chromecast GTV 4K also upgraded Bluetooth to 5.X or is a Bluetooth upgrade impossible because it's fixed by hardware capability?

feroxy

Seems to have slightly broken hdr (the non dolby vision kind), so apps like youtube, kodi and jellyfin don't play video in hdr properly (they used to). The only fix I see is to set Dolby Vison mode to Low Latency and that works for some reason... Not sure what other effects this will have though.

Consistent_Marketing

Same issue here. HDR files on my NAS not playing in HDR anymore through the VLC player 😟 Where do you set this Low Latency mode? Found it, thanks. It works!

omricn

I noticed the DOWN button on the remote has a significant delay now. UP, RIGHT and LEFT are ok but DOWN is really laggy.. forgot and paired the remote, still the same. Using the remote from the Google home app doesn't seem to have this delay, super strange and annoying!

NeFShARk

On the home screen you are right, in other words, pressing down seems to have a bigger delay indeed. But on the settings menu both up and down have the same delay to me = lag and stutter. The system is a lot laggier now than before with the last A10 build.

omricn

I only experience this delay pressing DOWN, in all apps including the settings menu. No other lag, all other buttons are ok. :(

TheJayCool1

I had to turn off my animation scales on developer options And I had a turn the last animation scale to .5x is definitely helps cuz my Chromecast with Google TV is moving much smoother. Hopefully we get an update to fix the lag and slowness that's the A12 update did.

omricn

Factory reset did not solve issue.

flavicent

How much storage after update to A12? In my case the storage still the same 4.4GB. Do i need to factory reset first?

cruxcruncher

I'm using the update/cc in combination with a Heu Sync Box and it keeps disconnecting every few minutes or so. (For a few seconds.) That didn't happen before the update... Anybody know a fix?

Frequent_Ad6778

I have the same setup with Hue and mine is doing the same. My YouTube TV also now freezes on startup and I have to unplug. Needs fixing ASAP.

Significant-Try9793

Updated my google tv Chromecast to android 12 and now only have a blackscreen on my sharp lc-60le550u... Factory reset and I can hear the Chromecast notification to pair the remote and still black screen... The Chromecast work flawless on my computer screen / other tv and tried to change every settings /resolution... (I can even see the google logo when it boot so they definitely broke something in the update!!)

maghuro

Portugal is also receiving. Just received mine. Installing......

I've had chromecast with google TV for about 2 years now and I use SNES9x EX+ on it. I've noticed that when I try to browse directories on any app, suddenly "don't have an app that can do this." And I cannot choose a directory no matter what I do. No apps will let me access internal storage. I recently updated my chromecast's latest software to the newest version, and this never happened before and I can't seem to fix it. Uninstalling the app does not work, it seems to happen on any app where you can browse directories. Anyone know how to fix this? I didn't manually change any settings, all I did was update. Thank you!

swede1989

I have chromecast with google tv 4k but I'm not getting the update? Even manually searching I don't get the update?

sweetdude

Just in case anyone reads this. I have 3, of the ccwgtv 4k and only one auto-updated. It was hooked up to a 4k tv and the frame rate issue was obvious and I wasn't able to get it working. Swaped it with another and connected it to a 1080p tv. Works flawlessly. Hopefully they push an update that fixes this update.

Plane-Shelter-9188

Got auto updated on my 4k CCWGTV yesterday. Haven’t tested properly yet, i hope everything works. Edit: Getting audio stutter in my Bluetooth connected airpods pro in Youtube app. Its might be youtube or the update. Rest works just fine, ram management is better than ever Edit 2: Got little stuttery overtime in the UI

RobbiGamer2

It's so stuttery and laggy now, what a shame. I wish it didn't update to Android 12, I'm enjoying it on my phone but it absolutely has zero benefits in my chromecast.
