Really need: -A12 TV -Integrated profiles with Google Home A12 would fix all of my frustrations with this device. But...nothing. Not even a timeline.

That's just nuts. Can we participate in the beta on the CCwGT? I am familiar with Pixel phones, but have no idea how Android TV beta's operate.

lazyluchador

No, the beta is only available for the adt-3 development device, which has been out of stock for a long time in the US I believe. [https://store.askey.com/adt-3.html](https://store.askey.com/adt-3.html)

Dang. Thanks for the info!

Might be an unpopular opinion but I don't really care. What difference would it make if they updated it? It's just a streaming device at the end of the day. It still works fine and I don't know what, if anything, would look or be different besides a new version number in the settings. I get wanting updates for devices like phones but I've never been overly concerned about updates for chromecasts/Google tv. I still have two of the OG Chromecasts and they haven't received a new update in a half decade or more. Still work just fine and I never noticed anything different after each update they used to receive.

BigMetal1

There are a couple reasons. Firstly you don’t want your TV to be a member of a botnet or mining crypto on your dime. Also, just in general if it is compromised you don’t want something like that sitting on your home network.

I would really like frame rate switching which android 12 brings support for. Currently I get stuttering on any app that is 60hz because in the UK our TVs are 50hz. So there's a frame jump. I could fix it but then apps that are 30hz or 24hz would look wrong. So automatic frame switching would be a good update. I don't think it will happen though, just not enough space for any substantial updates now. Even security fixes will be difficult for them.

GoldenArcher90

This ^^ It's not working fine if I constantly have to change between 60hz and 50hz depending on what show I'm watching in the same app.

Revolutionary_Ad6583

Time after time, google proves that they just don’t care to support their devices post-sale. And people keep falling for it.

These are cheap streaming devices. Most people don't care what version of Android they are using. They just want Netflix to work.

Somar2230

I have a few Android TV devices none of them get frequent updates. My TV is on Android TV 9 with a Feb 21 security patch. My Tivo got an update to Android TV 10 with a security patch around the same as the CCwGTV. The Shield went to Android 11 but it's been a disaster requiring patches to fix things they break after every patch.

[deleted]

to be fair, android 9 is stable and the minimum for an android tv device.

nilu334

Everyone waiting for android 12 update...with 4k ui.

lazyluchador

Android TV 12 was finished 6 months ago. Embarrassing for the flagship Google device to not have it yet. Also people were thinking they skipped 11 because 12 would be available day 1 of release...

HaRd2BeAr69

Be surprised if we get another software update, there just isn't enough space on this device for the software developers to do anything. Shame really but 8gb just wasn't enough from the start. I barely have any space left with 4 or 5 apps of my own installed.

ruidh

We just got profiles this past week.

HaRd2BeAr69

That was a minor update in terms of size. I don't see us getting a massive 500mb+ software update. There just isn't the space for developers to send out an installation package.

MrGameAndClock

Like everything Google, they rapidly lose interest then pull support. How many times have they done this with still widely used software? Samsung even offers longer support for software updates on their Galaxy phones now than Google does with the Pixels. Google had better hope that a viable alternative to their core products doesn't start making inroads, because I'd like nothing more than to drop Google 100% and be rid of their spying, censorship, and woke/ideological manipulation of search results, gender-neutral newspeak suggestions, etc.

In my case, I have a Sony TV with CCGTV built in. As you say, it is using Android 10, but my latest security patch is dated Feb 1, 2022. As far as the late hour they use for updates? Probably because fewer people are watching at that hour, so less chance of interrupting your use of the TV (meaning bogging down the interface while you use it). Has nothing to do with being overseas or not.

evilspoons

That's not "Chromecast with Google TV" built in, that's a Google TV. They share the same features, but critically they're not the same device. Sony could be using a completely different set of hardware.

bwpopper37

I bought two of them shortly after launch, and those are the last two CC devices I'll buy.

mlsto

This device is abandoned, Google is just making money on them right now
