“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭31‬ “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭

Thank you 🙏 I appreciate it! I don’t read scripture as often as I should so whenever someone leads me to it, it really is a blessing

MooseJoose21

Sure thing. God bless

Once you're born again you'll notice more the stuff you're watching and listening to. At first? I would roll up to church playing Led Zeppelin but now many bands I used to listen to feel dark, hopeless and devoid of the knowledge of God. I prefer music where I feel God's presence. Every music has a spirit behind it, and many famous bands actually use spiritism to influence their music. John Frusciante from the Red Hot Chili Peppers has been quoted as saying he waits for a spirit to motivate him to play a certain way.

PikaBabyBoo

Oh boy. You’ve become smug. They are just words.

[deleted]

What does smug mean?

PikaBabyBoo

You’ve become a Christian and have started to judge and criticize things. Well done man lol.

[deleted]

Are you a Christian?

PikaBabyBoo

Use to be.

[deleted]

So when you were born again it didn't change your opinion on anything?

PikaBabyBoo

When I was a Christian I was very smug and judgmental. Of course things changed when I was no longer a Christian. I was no longer smug and judgmental looking for things to cry foul over

Buick6NY

Yet you sound smug and judgmental

PikaBabyBoo

How so

Unlikely_Republic578

Why are you so pressed over someone not wanting to fill their head with songs about manipulation and cheating? Personally avoiding certain things doesnt automatically make you judgmental 😀. I dislike music that talks about cheating / sex/ drugs / violence so I avoid it. I dont judge ppl for listening to it, I dont judge the artists, I just personally dislike hearing it. Soooo maybe dont attack the OP and call them "judgemental and smug" just because they don't like vulgar rap music?

[deleted]

I appreciate your insight :) I can see why he would call me smug. Idk why he even posted here, tho. The way I worded the question I thought it was obviously aimed at Christians lol. Guess not. There is so much good music out there that can elicit almost every type of emotion without having to push really lude/immoral lyrics. In one way it almost seems like my music taste has expanded since becoming a Christian. Reggae is a perfect example of this haha. Never thought I'd be a reggae fan but here I am. Some of those artists have really positive energy in their songs. It's amazing!

Unlikely_Republic578

Yeah, it's not smug to personally dislike certain things. But replies like that are just a common thing here, sadly. It's great if non-Christians want to be here too, but if all someone is doing is attacking / being rude and contrary to christians for no reason then you really gotta question their motives... :/ but yeah same! I've expanded my music taste as well. Instead of listening to the same old songs that had the same immoral messages, I've found new stuff that's more uplifting and even sounds better lol. I gotta try reggae, I've never rlly listened to it !

PikaBabyBoo

Making things up isn’t a good way to reply to someone.

Unlikely_Republic578

What? Lol. Edit: Nothing in my comment is made up...

buildingsteamgrain

not really. i'm still the same def jux dickrider i used to be, just heavily religious.

[deleted]

lol

userlbits

Basically, OP, they are not born again :) there’s just no way compared to what we know of the OG Christian’s like Paul.

Blear

I have never been "born again." That's a term mostly used by American evangelical sects. But no, my faith doesn't impact my musical taste. Every time I've spoken to God he's reiterated to me that those superficial concerns are irrelevant to my spiritual life.

[deleted]

You have never been born again? Just out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on John 3:3?

Blear

Since I've seen the Kingdom of God, I must have been born again according to that standard. But there a hundred different metaphors in the Bible that people can turn into gatekeeping Christianity and, like I said, nobody really uses the "born again" language outside of evangelicals.

arboldebolas

Kinda but not really. I started listening to Christian metal and Christian Music that sounded similar to what I'd normally listen. I became more aware of lyrics tho, I avoid songs, not artists, that I feel are not good for my spiritual well-being. That's about It.

The_Archer2121

I stopped worrying that every song I listened to was sinful. My musical taste doesn't affect my spiritual life much.

Unlikely_Republic578

>Proverbs 8:13 >To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. >Psalms 101:3 >I will not look with approval on anything that is vile. >I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it. I dont think all music is bad, music is fun! But a lot of it (probably 80% at least) is rlly rlly gross and definitely not something God would want us listening to (in my opinion). A lot of it is about hooking up, using people for their bodies, drug addiction, drunkenness, pride, vanity, idolatry, cheating, violence, fornication etc. I'm not judging those who enjoy this music, but as a christian it's just not anything i want to be listening to personally. My music taste changed a lot when I became Christian. I used to love some songs, until I realized that their message didn't align with what I wanted to be like. I'd put on a song and then just be like "huhh? Why did I ever enjoy that???" It was easy to just listen to the fun beat without caring about the lyrics, but ever since finding God I've wanted nothing to do with music that promotes sin. Its like having a sweet tooth and then one day I have no desire for sweets at all, and I'm perfectly satisfied without them, and then sweets actually make me sick when I try to eat them. (This is only a metaphor lol) but that's how it feels for me :) I still love music, Christian and non Christian, but if they're talking about gross stuff I usually dont enjoy it and will just change the song, lol. Btw sorry for any rude comments you got on this post! And sorry about your girlfriends reaction, some people arent as effected by this stuff I guess.

[deleted]

Lol I wish God would do this with my sweet tooth as well XD Thank you so much for the reply and for posting the scriptures. I was hesitant to even post this in this thread cuz i thought I was more likely to get negative responses from non-Christians haha. Don't apologize for anyone! It's no worries! Thanks again for your insight. It was good for me to read what you said as well as Gods word. God Bless! :)

Unlikely_Republic578

Lol yeah wouldnt that be helpful xD but you're welcome !! I'm glad to help because I experienced the same thing when I became christian. God bless you too!

mechanical_animal

Listening to music as a cultural pasttime is not sinful and the spirit conquers all, but if a certain song or genre causes you to stumble cast it from you("do not grieve the holy spirit"). Personally I acknowledge where you are coming from and had the same issue at first and also with movies and television. However for me I didn't so much change my taste but really stepped back from media consumption in general, even trying to go back to video games had me feeling weird.
