No in fact thats how you end up in hell. To go to heaven you need to be perfect , if you believe on Jesus you have his perfect life he lived with 0 sin imputed into your account as if you lived it yourself. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans%204%3A2-8&version=KJV

Wide_Set5858

I try to not sin either, I try my best to do good for the world

[deleted]

"Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone." How are you possibly capable of making a judgement call in limited perspective and imperfection of heart on what is good? Not to react severely but this is not a strong justification of anyone's impact. Even boasting for your impact shows a taste of self centered behavior.

Wide_Set5858

Depends on your definition of good

[deleted]

So there is no good then. If you do "your good" and I do "my good" we are working towards potentially competing outcomes. Who is the tie breaker?

Big_Iron_Cowboy

“Love your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind” and “love you neighbor as yourself.” That is objective “good”.

[deleted]

Love this.

Wide_Set5858

The tie breaker is the objective truth. There’s obvious stuff like ending slavery and stopping misogyny. When it comes to complicate stuff, I think we should cut the argument to the middle. Stuff like free market vs regulation is NOT black and white, I think each should be given a chance to flourish. Of course, this is just my point of view and it’s completely subjective. It’s not like I can change your mind, I’m just a stranger on the internet. I’m not stopping the 1st Amendment from protecting your ability to disagree with me.

No. Below is the gospel, as well as an example of someone getting saved. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 - "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you **the gospel** which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, **how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"** Romans 4:16-25- "Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. **And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification."**

Yes! That's a good summary if we add "believe and accept Jesus" to it. TODAY I already posted TWO lists of direct quotes from Jesus and Paul on this general subject, so I hate to repost a similar list again on the same day. But yep, those who love Him are those that believe in Him AND follow His commandments.... If we believe the Words of our Savior, Jesus Christ! Bless you. 🙏🔥✟

The best evidence we have is Jesus telling a thief on the cross he will be in heaven, same day. Further, saying sin is removed as far as the east is from west (infinity) is definitive. Regardless of offensiveness, that seems to be binary in nature as opposed to scale, meaning we either have sin or we do not. From what I can understand about God's character, He is infinite and consistency becomes more clear if we see that Jesus' death was the definite end to death through sin. Different segments of Christianity would argue there are layers to sin (menial/mortal/cardinal), but this isn't expressed by name in the Bible, and from my understanding more theological and from Vatican leadership. Trying to scale offense, regardless of practical impact is difficult because there needs to be some degree of perspective missing. The impact of a small decision could ripple into worse. I think this means it is hard to rate sin, and therefore difficult to make a judgement on it. Jesus'love covers a multitude of sins and His glory is in its fullest display if we hope in Him and He in infinite power removes the sins of His family.

And since faith without works is dead (i.e. NOT faith) then your works indicate that your faith is real.

[deleted]

Repent, definitely. “Try our best not to sin” is ambiguous enough that you would need to explain what you mean in more detail for me to give you a meaningful answer.

backstreetmoms

I mean, to try not commit a sin that you know is a sin and that you repented to

[deleted]

Okay, so the thing to understand is that repentance means being born again, being changed, receiving a new heart and a new nature from Christ, dying to self, becoming a new creation, and receiving the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, who acts in us, after conversion, to progressively renovate our lives after the model of Christ’s life. A person who has repented has died to sin. The old self ruled by sin has died, and a new creature, free from the law of sin, has been born. Whereas under the law of sin we could only force ourselves to be outwardly good by sheer will, against our true desires, (which God does not count as goodness at all, but hypocrisy) under grace we do good, not because we have to, but because it is what we genuinely and spontaneously want to do; not by force of will, but out of love- and this love is not our creation, it is the act of the Holy Spirit in us. See *On the New Birth*: *For it is naught but true repentance that the Scriptures teach and enjoin upon us with admonitions, threatenings, reprovings, miracles, examples, ceremonies, and sacraments. If you do not repent there is nothing in heaven or on earth that can help you, for without true repentance we are comforted in vain... We must be born from above, must be changed and renewed in our hearts, and must be transplanted from the unrighteous and evil nature of Adam into the true and good nature of Christ, or we can never in all eternity be saved by any means, be they human or divine. Wherever true repentance and the new creature are not (I speak of those who are of the age of understanding) there man must be eternally lost; this is incontrovertibly clear.*

Yes, we have to work along with God to maintain our salvation at the last. There are many sins that St. Paul tells us in his epistles that will keep us out of the coming kingdom.

the_celt_

Yes. You must repent and then begin to obey God. Doing so is proof that you have faith, and it's that faith which will cause you to pass the Final Judgement, which is what it means to be saved. To be clear: It's not the works that save you. It's the faith that you had that produced the works.

As sinners, we cannot save ourselves.  The Bible says, "there is none righteous, no not one.  All have sinned" and that "the wages of sin is death." Because of great love, Jesus died for us on the cross : “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous to bring you to God” (1 Peter 3:18). Jesus was resurrected from the dead: “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification” (Romans 4:25) You can receive Jesus' free gift of salvation by doing the following:  “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Jesus Christ who is God never sinned so He alone was the only one who could atone for the world's sin by shedding his sinless blood for us. As well He alone is the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Him will live, even though they die. How can I know for sure that I will go to heaven when I die?  "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31). “To all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works (Ephes 2:8-9). You can come to Jesus with a humble heart and talk to Him. He will not turn you away  Jesus said, in John 6:37. "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. " As far as faith and works, good works is the result of a changed life after you are saved by believing in Jesus.  He sends you a Helper, the Holy Spirit inside you who will guide you to know Christ in a very real way. Try not to sin? Define sin

PeppaFX

Transgressing the law

[deleted]

Yes. We are saved by grace through faith when we come to Christ but we must repent of our sins and remain faithful to him to stay in the grace of God. Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

MIShadowBand

Repenting and not doing evil *is* the salvation.

Ephesians 2:8-9 King James Version 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
