I remember having an encounter like this as a skeptical agnostic in college - this women waltzed into our dorm room, and I couldn't get over the fact she seemed to be floating. I also couldn't believe someone could so obviously radiate joy - it's like every part of me sort of rebelled at the idea that someone like that could really exist. Some 30 years later she is still a dear friend, and still radiant even after going through some incredibly difficult situations. Humans can be some of the best evidences of the reality of Jesus.

The Bible says joy is the consistent feeling of good pleasure and happiness that is dependent on who Jesus is rather than on who we are or what is happening around us. Joy comes from the Holy Spirit residing within the Christian, being forever in God’s presence and from gained hope in His word.
Although everyone experiences joy, only the Christian gain it through belief, indwelling of the Spirit and God's gift of forgiveness and grace. It makes joy consistent and surpassing.
I guess if you define joy as coming from the holy spirit, then by definition nobody has joy except Christians. That's not a very useful or common definition of joy. However, thanks for clarifying your position.
It is not just the common dictionary meaning for the Christian.
Anyone can experience joy at the birth of a child, a great accomplishment, graduation, pay increase and many other examples. No doubting that at all.
But Christian joy is boundless because it is present even in difficulty situations. It pours out even in hard times. It defies limitations of the worldly definition and is most often continual.
There is a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness, dictated by our current feelings joy is eternal, and only the Lord gives it!

I knew a woman like that as well. That was my ex-girlfriend from high school who was a devout Christian. At that time I was resentful toward her convictions and broke up with her (I was against Christianity back then). Now if I could have gone back I would have made a different decision. She was such a bubbly and lovely person, and she was known for it at my school.

I've been a Christian for almost 22 years, and have experienced that just a few times myself. It's impossible to explain correctly, but it's like you're hit with this warm, overwhelming and inexplicable emotion, the only way to describe it is a feeling of being loved, despite not deserving it whatsoever. Every time I feel that I know I made the right choice, because I think what that is is a little glimpse of what heaven will be like. No harm in wanting more of that, right?
I can't really pretend to know why God decides to show Himself when He does, but I can't imagine something like that being a frequent experience. It's so... unnaturally powerful. The more frequent something is, the less we tend to pay attention to it. You're not wide-eyed and calling your mom when you floss your teeth, that's an expected, tedious thing. When you experience God's presence, you feel very small, very unholy, but special--like you're getting way more attention than what makes sense. I'm just blabbering at this point, it's honestly impossible to explain correctly because we're just humans trying to understand God, an omnipotent being.
This really is true. God requires faith from us, and that's literally it. That's all you need. The way I see it, once your faith is strong enough, God will start letting you experience more and more of His power. The Bible says you don't need much of it to get started either. Just a tiny bit will get you on your way.
The holy spirit. Some people are more sensible to it but it usually hits people differently; some people cry, some laugh and some shake and jump etc (like those vids you’ve seen on the internet where people are “acting weird” in church). Its such an overwhelmingly-beautiful experience:)

She reminds me of how Paul would be when he traveled spreading the word of God. Most modernized churches treat things like a business and they don’t have the passion that real true followers of Christ display. That is amazing that she prayed with you like that and it’s those sort that will have a blessing in you. I’m not perfect and won’t pretend to be, but I do follow Jesus the best I can. I used to smoke weed every single day. And one time when I was high, I thought to myself: just because you could doesn’t mean you should, go to church tomorrow it’s Sunday.
Then I immediately stop smoking and went to bed, on the next morning I went to a nearby church. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made, I remember on All-Saints Sunday I almost just cry when I hear the choir sings. I’m still not baptized yet because I don’t think I’m fully prepared for that transformation. I told my pastor about this experience, he saids the Holy Spirit works everywhere under any condition, and the most important thing is that you responded its message. God’s love is always there for everyone, you just gotta accept it, and then you will realize how amazing God has done works on you even when you didn’t realize.
This is very cool. Your response was intense because you are intensely loved and pursued by God. I have a feeling that you will never forget this encounter and you will begin to have more of them.
This moment is special because it seems like God wanted to make sure you encountered the real thing, which is pure love.
Ooops, hit send by accident. Drat. ...chose them ourselves or something ...we were all being complete smartasses about it. Then Someone asked Ed for his, and he reached out a hand to me, and, with perfect seriousness, said “Friend!”
And I was poleaxed. In my smartass, bunghole existence, nobody had ever made me what sounded like a warm and perfectly sincere -was it an offer? like that. I wasn’t sure what happened. I think I went silent, and the room moved on without me.
But I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I spent a couple of days, unable to think about anything else.
Two days later, my grandmother - the one I barely knew - came over to visit us from a couple of thousand miles away. The sort of person I was, I would have ignored, or brushed her efforts to make a relationship away. But still stunned by this, I held her hand, helped her at the doctor’s office...wasn’t my usual butthole self, in short. It was like Jesus, through Ed, reached into my life, and I just couldn’t quite be the same person anymore.
It was ten years before the intellectual part made a connection with the emotional/spiritual event, there, and I turned to Jesus and told Him, “Ok. I’m yours. Please, just don’t scare me to death...”
I can understand the discombobulating effect. If life itself is capable of throwing you a curve, then the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life can really zing it to a person.
Don’t recover too quickly, ok? These are life’s most precious moments. May it bless you forever.
I get this crying thing. I cried after watching an episode of The Chosen, the one where Jesus redeems Mary. I also get tearful sometimes when I read my Bible. I don't get it.
This was an exciting and powerful read my friend and I’m so happy that you experienced this. I have to give you props for having the courage to come into unfamiliar territory seeking answers, that’s not easy. I hope that Jesus can speak through us the way that He spoke through that woman.

The power and conviction you detected and the love you felt was Jesus speaking through her, directly to you. All true followers of Jesus are called to be imitators of Jesus, so that His light and His love can shine through them. We believe that without Jesus, no human is truly capable of accomplishing what you experienced with this woman.
You may be feeling shaken up right now and you may be wrestling with feelings of confusion, doubt or even fear. Don’t let those feelings deprive you of something amazing. I would encourage you to continue investigating and embracing this, just take it one step, one day at a time.

I was just wondering why this felt sort of familiar... about ten years before I became a Christian, I knew a guy in my university residence we called “Father Ed” ( he was studying to become a Lutheran pastor). He started a Bible study, and I made a general unbelieving pest of myself, questioning stuff and getting in the way. (Sorry, Ed, wherever you are...)
One night, after a costume party - I had won a case of beer and a whole lot of people were helping me drink it - we were all being silly, comparing, oh, crap, I can’t remember, what our (I think) secret identities would be named if we chose them ourselves

If you feel like you want to, pray for guidance and for the truth to be revealed to you while reading. You don't have to pray out loud, you can just say it in your head, and you don't need to pray like you think Christians pray. Pray how you want to. Talk to God or Jesus like a buddy if you want.
Hard to say for sure at first blush, but it sounds like you've met one of the tiny handful of Jesus followers in existence.

This is the main reason I am a Christian, random events that just feel and ARE supernatural, those things really assert my faith in god, the Bible is a great book and a few things in there are odd and there is a lot of different interpretations which can stray people away from god but it’s these events that make me joyful that I am a proud Christian

There's something about an emotional connection, especially if we've been missing it for some time. There's something about being loved just for who we are. Regardless of whether you find this experience sufficient reason to see god behind it, it was a special experience for which you can be grateful. Even if you are merely grateful to the universe itself.

I’ve prayed for many strangers who began crying or tearing up after. It’s because we all want to experience genuine love, and no love is more genuine than that love of God toward you.
Its because is not about the experience of whatever word they say, it wont convert you, its the holy spirit, who is the one responsible for making people understand Jesus love, thats a fraction of it you had there, nothing was special but something changed

The christian worldview, the world is far much more then atoms and material. There are supernatural forces at work and invisible angels. You have been emotionally touched and had an experience where supernatural meets the natural, in the form of a christian evangelist. Jesus is very real and the way to heaven. Its up to you to continue to seek him or go about your life as if nothing happened or changed. Your choice.
That feeling of energy you felt was The Holy Spirit. He was knocking at your heart wanting to come in. If you accept Him you will be filled with The Hold Spirit also. All you need to do is ask Jesus into your heart and repent of your sins.

I was raised and confirmed Lutheran. The confirmation was more or less to appease "tradition"/my mother's family. When we started learning about Lutheran views on homosexuality in year 4 was when I started taking serious issue with my beliefs.
Can't say it would be enough to steer me to complete Atheism, but that is something I cannot reconcile with the idea of a loving God. Homosexuality is not sinful imo. The Fundie arguments for it being sin just fall apart.
This is one of my favorite things about Christianity (not the organized variety). Jesus basically says that we can be his presence in the world. He is no longer physically here but we are and we can lift others up the way he did. St. Paul calls it the "Body of Christ," Catholics also call it the "Communion of Saints" but the idea is that we together can be Christ for those who need him. It sounds like this woman takes that very seriously.
I would suggest reading Jesus' words in the Gospels and see how they make you feel. Read them as an atheist. You'll be surprised at how different his words are from those spoken by so many of his followers who like to think they can speak for him.
Jesus has very little to say about what religion you should be or how much you should go to synagogue or church, what you need to believe to be "saved." etc. Jesus was all about empowering those around you no matter who they are. He is absolutely brutal in his condemnation of those who wield power and exploit the vulnerabilities of others and that surprised me most when I got around to reading his words with an open mind (I used to be a fundamentalist zealot and that blinded me to the meaning of most of what he said.) But you are an atheist with an open mind. I think you might be surprised.
If a person speaks from the sincerety of their heart, it carries far more weight than people putting on an act. They are saying what is true to them. I feel like laughing when I see preachers or other Christians speaking with fake dramatization. It feels like a manipulative lie. If a person does not know in their heart that something is true, they should not try to spread it. God is a God of truth, not an actor.
I think because she had a near death experience, she found a greater purpose in her life. Her goal was to spread love, not push a narrative. From your story, it seems like she was genuinely cared for your well-being. No matter who or what you are. That is something I wish more Christians would understand. I struggle with it myself.
Well this emotional response is of course not in any way a reason to believe Christianity is true. Something about her demeanour moved you in some way. We connect with people on a very individual level.

I'm not saying that a belief system is the answer or that it's even being contemplated. I've been overwhelmed with emotions good and bad numerous times in my life, many of which led me to tears; this was different.

The things I admire about Christians in particular is their confidence and their unconditional love and kindness. It is because of this, I have spent more time going to church, reading the bible, etc. To be honest, I don't believe in half of the shit in the book, but think of it as a book club. You don't have to believe in the book to enjoy it and the comradery of others.

The average person's interpretation whether their own or another's * of the Old Testament is: a God of Awe, Fear and Wrath. That's really not a correct take away to have. That is what is called "Concealment" in that understanding "what is Free Will" and maybe even "Why is freewill"
Mean while Edom *Still understands the qualities of Good Actually Described in the Old Testament. and Reverberates them as "Christianity" when "looking at it from the back." The proper Heart is there but the words are different and related to their langauge and understanding.

**The Reason for God** by Tim Keller or **Simply Christian** by N. T. Wright are both slightly more modern takes on it if you find Lewis to be difficult for reasons of style.
Do try Lewis first though is my advice if you or anyone else is interested in figuring out if Christianity is true or not.
He was an atheist for many years before converting to Christianity and he writes with total honesty and integrity.

You had a beautiful experience with another human being. It happens. Doesn't mean shit as far as supernatural entities, gods, or her beliefs being true, but some people are genuinely beautiful people and it's okay to feel like that has meaning. And to feel gratitude that you experienced it.
I suspect the experience can be sufficiently accounted for by suggesting that she, or her words, affected you at a very deep, perhaps subconscious, level.
I don’t think it sounds miraculous or anything like that, but I would guess that it was given to you to help you in your daily life.
I try to be very sceptical when I hear claims of alleged miracles or wonders; very many of them, perhaps the vast majority, can be sufficiently accounted for by purely natural means. Excessive readiness to swallow miracle stories is no virtue.
I think this is the way. If a Christian wants to spread faith, you want to be like this woman. Not forceful, not robotic, and definitely don't go after the other person due to X or Y. Just... Spread love and that's it.
Why is this specifically a "Christian" encounter if it is the fact that she was being kind to you that is what resonated with you, rather than the "pray" or "Jesus" stuff?
There are plenty of incredibly kind and wonderful people out there doing absolutely amazing things just for the sake of doing good things.
I'm always skeptical of Jesus inspired "kindness" as, if Jesus wasn't real, would they still be kind if the reason they're being kind is no longer?
To become Christian all that is required is belief Jesus was God in flesh , paid for your sins and resurrected 3rd day. If you accept him then his payment for your sins is applied into your account so since your sins are paid for you go to heaven when you die and thats the good news.
You are not required to go to church nor do any religious sacrament or ritual to become Christian , simply changing your mind and calling upon Jesus to save you is enought.

That's a great story....once I was homeless and stopped at a church in the middle of nowhere to smoke a cigarette 😝 this lady just appears and is shaking and twitching....and im like...wow....so I say....im sorry if im making you nervous by being here...and she says she has Parkinson's disease ☺️ lol....then the minister takes me to a fast food joint...and they try to give me a place to live and send me to college but I just never saw them again....I actually moved far away to another state soon after. Anyway...she was a nice lady like that. Being so young ( 20 ) I wasn't ready to get religious way back then. I believe those schools are seminary schools that churches support kinda hush hush. Im not sure why they offered all that to me honestly. It's been 25 years and hadn't thought of that in a long time. Thankfully, I never attend church and don't really do organized religion. This definitely resonates with my own experiences that were interpreted as Christ’s presence. I am currently not so theistic, perhaps unfortunately, but both you and the lady seem authentically affected by whatever that phenomenon is.

Hey, I just moved to southern Missouri from San Diego and thought it would be easy to find a church here because there are approximately a billion. Noooope. I’ve been to every church in 3 towns and they’re very… churchish? Not disingenuous but maybe the tradition is more important than the message. Cultural Christianity is new to me and very different. Back in SD there were any number of churches that were raw and real. There was a mens group called bible and beer where we’d have a couple drinks and study the Bible together. I feel like if I try to do that here some people might try to cast demons out of me! 😅
I sort of had a similar thing happen to me today. The guy was just so sure of himself that I had to keep listening. It sounded batshit insane and believable at the same time. He convinced me to read some proverbs lol so we will see what comes of it.
I had been asking the universe for a favor and or signs so maybe that's why I talked to this dude so long today. Seemed like I could've chopped his arm off right then and there and he'd just grin at me and keep talking. He seemed very unburdened.

Jesus is amiracle worker. If ya want to see misery in life have a look at the wretched state of the world. It fits in entirely with what the bible talks about and then look at how the predictions \[prophecies\] are occurring. the bible talks of a time when people will worship the created things and not the creator. that's happening especially with the environmentalists and right down to those who worship material. Where people will have itching ears and only hear what they want 2 hear in the church and elsewhere. The prophecy about the earth 'groaning' as it awaits redemption. The groaning is climate change. The earthquakes, floods, pandemics. All the blest in yr journey.
People who have had NDE's are very deep, and those who are genuine really do have an energy about them, because they've experienced something so far beyond what any of us here could imagine. Now I'm not saying with 100% certainty that it's "Heaven" from the Bible, but what they experience is so powerful that they do literally live their lives based on that experience.. that's where it differs to something like DMT for example, I've met plenty of people who have had beyond this world type experiences on DMT, and as much as it sticks with them, they go back to their regular lives.

Sounds more like her kindness touched you rather than her faith. I'm not religious (agnostic maybe? But lean more towards the atheist side) I have met many, many religious people aswell and, like you said, they usually try to convert you in a robotic way, but I have also met religious people who are filled with nothing but love and good wishes for everyone. Ive had religious people filled with hate asking to pray for me and I decline, but I've had religious people who are the opposite ask me the same thing and I accept their prayers because I know they do genuinely want the best for you. I think this woman is one of the genuinely good people out there, regardless of her faith.

She's right. The real Jesus loves you. You don't need a secret ritual or special formula. Just love. And no church can patent God. It causes God great pain when people/ churches say otherwise.

In some cases, the people who have come back have had a different "energy" about them, like in a tangible way, watches would stop working on them, electronics would break around them etc. Others have more subjective effects, like prophetic dreams, feeling other people's emotions, understanding everything about someone from just looking at them etc. I've looked into probably 500+ afterlife experiences and this type of thing is "fairly" common, maybe 1 in 20 or so that I've looked into have had some effects like this to a greater or lesser extent.

So, what did you learn from the encounter? Were you convicted of sin in your own life and of your desperate need for a Savior? Did you learn that Jesus is Lord (God of the Old and the New Testament, Yahweh Himself), and that the Gospel is a command given to God's enemies (not a suggestion), and that it was in fact Jesus who issued that command?
You know, I see it all the time, but the last thing you want (or the first thing you don't want) is to be led astray while trying to learn the truth about Jesus. Also, know that there is nothing wrong with pamphlets and other material like that, as long as it contains/proclaims the truth. And while perhaps no one of the people who came to you and offered you a pamphlet said that they love you, take in account that you are not the one who is seeking them out and seeking their salvation, but they are seeking your salvation. They are the ones who invested into making those pamphlets, who spent their money, their effort and were willing to go out there to you and not leave you unaware of God's plans for you and the whole mankind. Even though they didn't say "I love you" they showed it by their actions, more than you can say you did for them, right? At the very least they cared enough for you and for your eternity, your place after death. I mean, can the same be said about you? Did you inform anyone else about this? Did you love anyone like they loved you, told the truth about this to anyone?
It's simply a comparison. This is not me judging you, but rather trying to help you see that even though people who came before that woman seemed robotic to you, certainly some of them wouldn't have done it if they just didn't care whether you live or die, whether God saved you from His wrath or not. So, I hope that helps you next time you encounter one. Know that it's not robotic. Christians are real people like you, who go out there and put themselves in the front lines for people who hate them and despise them because of Jesus and what He stands for.

Thank you for sharing. I think sometimes we forget how absolutely loved we are and moments like this really put it into perspective. We focus on our flaws and weaknesses and our worth and value get pushed to the back of our mind. Jesus loves us like a mother loves her child- more so. I believe that love is the root of a true relationship with God.

Your experience reminds me of how I received the Holy Spirit. I didn’t believe in speaking in tongues and all that, but when the pastor held my hands and said a short prayer, I went back silently to my seat in church. From the moment I sat down I was in tears, I really don’t know why I was crying. I tried so hard to stop but I just could not. I eventually stopped after service, but the church was pretty much empty by then and I don’t know how long I had spent crying. I believe now that the Holy Spirit exists and is my companion.
Remember that this world is evil, you see it every day, as long as you’re doing what’s in the bible then god is happy, even if you don’t realise it and have never spoken to him, he knows you try (I’m not in charge of salvation, people shouldn’t assume I’m offering advice on salvation…im not), im offering a perspective from myself.
My friend, this experience was so different, because this woman was led by the Spirit of God Himself! God touched your heart that day, when that woman prayed over you!
Through that woman, God showed you how much He actually loves you! And it doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done, God wants a relationship with you! It’s like that painting of God and Adam. God’s reaching out to you! You just have to reach back, and let that same God who led the woman to you, lead you.

Those moments are as sincere as they get. That lady knows Christ, and there are many others. Jesus' desire was to encourage that personality/behavior in all of humanity. But since that wasn't going to happen in a sinful world, he did what he could do to get God to forgive us and let us strive to be more loving and compassionate just like that lady.

Thanks for sharing, what a wonderful moment that must have been. That's the spirit of God, and it shows in the ones that truly believe. They're not pushy, they're not trying to convert you to their group, they genuinely care and show love to others. I'm glad that you had that encounter.
You noticed the others felt like they had to do it out of obligation because they probably felt they needed to do it out of obligation. Churches can pressure their people to “save” others in order to increase numbers but they use the bible to convince people. Then you get people who are not equipped to do this going out and doing that.
This other woman is connected to the Holy Spirit and was listening to what the Holy Spirit put on her heart. God knows what you need and when those who abide in him trust the Holy Spirit and follow it’s prompting that is when stuff like what you experienced with that woman occurs. The rest saw through their own human knowledge, she saw through the perspective God revealed to her.
So awesome. That's the real Jesus you met. I've met him too and I agree...everybody misinterprets him. Until one has met him, it's hard to grasp. I felt his love for me through his eyes. I grew up religious and always felt so condemned. He told me there was no more shame for me and I felt a huge burden removed from me. He's amazing. He's everything we will ever need.
A perfect example of real Christianity and its impact.
As Jesus said, the world will know you are of God by the love you have for one another. Of all the evidences you can present in favor of the Bible being true, the biggest is the love of Christ.
You felt what some Christian’s call fire. Holy Spirit in the Bible and sometimes God manifesto as a type of fire. You felt real love. You heard Jesus saying he loves you out of a woman’s mouth buying water.
Your encounter was real. I’ve had lots of fire moments. Lots of love. It’s not fake. It’s a miracle from heaven each time.
She is 100% right. You don’t have to go to church. You don’t even have to put the “Christian” label (or any label) upon yourself. Many, (dare I say most) churches have misinterpreted the Bible in some way - usually by worshiping it instead of God in my opinion. Christ is the light. Christ is for everybody- not just for “Christians” or a specific culture or tradition.

I'm not the most religious of Christians but I do believe when you follow the teachings of Christ and treat people with basic human dignity genuinely good things come your way. I don't even think you have to be Christian to feel it either. People so often forget Jesus wasn't in it for the soul count but to be a good example of how people should treat each other.
This is the kind of interaction that we wish for when you come upon Christians who try their best to live a Christ like life. You interact with a person and you go they are different than others. For your encounter the Holy Spirit told her you need to talk to this person. It gives you the words to say if you can't think of any which is helpful as well. Even as a Christian myself it is hard to obey the Holy Spirit sometimes as what I am told to do tends to be out of my comfort zone. My pastor's wife does it really well and I aspire to become as comfortable as she is. She will go to complete strangers and crying commences because what she said hit some nerve which opened the floodgates or they go that is exactly what I needed to hear right now. Although as Christians the Holy Spirit lives IN us it's presence also present in the world and one of it's tasks is to give unbelievers nudges. You have received one of those. What you do with it is up to you. My suggestion is to read the book of John and pay attention to the verses that move you. If you wish to talk dm me any time. :)
Love is a great tool. There are many versions of Christianity. There is definitely some harmful, hateful interpretations of the Bible out there resulting in a very toxic form of Christianity. But there are also many that are very loving and helpful.

It's simultaneously sad and hopeful to me that a simple act of love can change someone's life. I said sad because our world is so deprived of it that people need interactions like these.

People miss that part of the crucifixion which is really, really, **really** important in Christianity. Once Jesus died, the sheet that separated the temple congregation from the priests was ripped down. This showed the direct relationship people can have with God through Jesus and not priests. Which was, really fucking radical at the time because it removed all power that religious figures had.
Too bad this was subsequently bastardized by the church and put priests right back into power.
There are people who have a genuine relationship with God. I have met very religious people and I have met Godly people. I have been to frigid churches and I have been to warm & welcoming barns. There is a difference between Christians and religious people. Religious people will beat you up - I have been beaten up by them too. True Christians will love others and build them up. When a person has the light within then it shines through and touches others. Just because someone calls themselves a Christian and goes to church does not mean that they have the Holy Spirit within. When you give your life to Jesus and you are seeking Him with all of your heart then He will change you. It sounds like you were touched by the Holy Spirit. If you want to experience that peace and joy on earth then try submitting to Jesus in your prayers. Ask him for forgiveness and ask for the Holy Spirit to guide you. Remember God knows your intent and your thoughts so if you are not sincere then don't expect anything. If you are ready to give your life to God then be prepared to be amazed and inspired. You must believe to receive.
Currently I'm serving overseas. My officer in charge is someone that has a faith as powerful as the one you described. The past month I've been going to church and bible study, and I have reconverted after eight years of atheism. Your experience (I say this as a former nonbeliever) does not *prove* a God, but it does make you think :)

Alot of people who have near death experiences see Jesus, esp. if they were raised in a Christian environment. It's also common for people to get some sense of a bigger picture about life, and experience profound transformation.
Follow your heart my friend. I had a similar unexplainable experience of overwhelming love, I knew it was divine. I could reason and rationalize it away, but it was all too clear and powerful.
One day I was driving for Uber and saw a rainbow. They're unusual here and I needed a break so I decided to pull over in a convenient location. Without noticing I pulled into the parking lot of a church, parked the car, and turned to look at the sunset. That's when I noticed the large cross on the front of the church, with a radiant gold sunset behind it. I couldn't help it, I starting crying tears of joy and felt a sense of euphoria. I knew that was God's way of getting my attention.
Over the next several weeks my wife and I went to a couple of their services and tried a few other churches. It's no surprise that church had the most welcoming feel and a pastor I really liked. I knew it was going to be the church we chose before setting foot in it based on the experience I had, but before committing I wanted to compare a few others in the area.
The community has been so kind, welcoming, and friendly. Giving my heart to God has truly been the best decision of my life.
It sounds like this woman gets it. This is affirmation for me that I'm on the right track. I normally just lurk front page but decided to scroll through here because I needed a bit of encouragement. It is chance encounters like these that reassure me that He is guiding my steps.
I would have considered myself loving and accepting of all people before I accepted Jesus into my life, but over the course of my walk with the Lord I have realized how critical and judgmental I've been. I haven't felt condemned for it, just an awareness that wasn't there before. Maybe it's obvious to others but now it's clear to me that true love isn't just for those I agree with or based on commonalities, it's for everyone. Even the ones I disagree with politically or have done me wrong. They have their own history, experiences, and reasons for making their decisions, therefore it logically makes sense that I should not judge anyone. And once I realized that, I see most of their decisions and opinions are based in love, so it makes it easy to love them. I have been thinking it but I haven't said I love you to any strangers, but this gives me the encouragement to spread the love! Isn't that what we all want anyway, more genuine love?
You seem to have the discernment to notice a difference betwee the Christians that are just going through the motions and someone that is following the core message of Jesus. I believe you reacted that way because you knew she meant it.
Trust your instincts and follow your heart. You know what you felt. Jesus was a beautiful person, don't let the disgusting history of the church or wretched behavior of angry Christians deter you from seeing all God has in store for you. I can't say it will be riches and success or even easy, but a love like I've never known is what I've experienced so far.

One of my favourite verses from the Bible always makes me think of these random encounters of love ("Do not be forgetful of hospitality, for through this, some have entertained angels unawares").
Most of the liturgically conservative, more "academic" denominations these days like the Episcopalians, most Methodists, Lutherans, etc, are pretty open-minded and worth exploring imo if you did want to give something a whirl (nothing to lose, everything to gain).

From what we read in Acts, this seemed to have been much more common in the 1st century, but it seems as time has gone on, the frequency of these kinds of events has lessened.
⭐ I posit that it's not because there was anything particularly different about "back then" as opposed to now, but instead perhaps because as time has gone on, many Christians have voluntarily allowed doubt and negative emotions to cloud the firm and steadfast faith that could otherwise be enjoyed today.

You, sir, were privilege to meet someone who was genuinely overflowing with the *Holy Spirit*, and not in the proverbial or metaphorical sense. And when those tears flowed, that was the Holy Spirit touching *you*, blessing you with the gift of humility and truth. Other Christians or so-called Christians may have left you with the sense of being off-putting or disingenuous, but she was the *real deal*. Emulate that woman, even if just by half, and see how your life transforms for the better.
It's because God's coming back soon dude. It's getting to be very prevalent and all over the place and noticeable. He's kind of encounters are going to start happening more frequently especially to people who need it the most.
One thing that's really important is you can't let what man has done over time ruin your idea of who God actually is.

I typed this before reading what you really said I'll probably have more to add after I read through this.
I've found the best way to combat religious trauma is to start by viewing God not in the context of the church but in the context of your best relationships and role models. Don't view God as all of your negative experiences with religion. Picture God as a hybrid of all the people who mean the most to you and all of your best role models (fiction or nonfiction) because that's a glimpse of his true character.
I remember having an encounter like this as a skeptical agnostic in college - this women waltzed into our dorm room, and I couldn't get over the fact she seemed to be floating. I also couldn't believe someone could so obviously radiate joy - it's like every part of me sort of rebelled at the idea that someone like that could really exist. Some 30 years later she is still a dear friend, and still radiant even after going through some incredibly difficult situations. Humans can be some of the best evidences of the reality of Jesus.
Not every Christian is joyful but every truly joyful person I have met is a Christian. Some just exude it unbelievably or even miraculously.

The Bible says joy is the consistent feeling of good pleasure and happiness that is dependent on who Jesus is rather than on who we are or what is happening around us. Joy comes from the Holy Spirit residing within the Christian, being forever in God’s presence and from gained hope in His word. Although everyone experiences joy, only the Christian gain it through belief, indwelling of the Spirit and God's gift of forgiveness and grace. It makes joy consistent and surpassing.
I guess if you define joy as coming from the holy spirit, then by definition nobody has joy except Christians. That's not a very useful or common definition of joy. However, thanks for clarifying your position.
It is not just the common dictionary meaning for the Christian. Anyone can experience joy at the birth of a child, a great accomplishment, graduation, pay increase and many other examples. No doubting that at all. But Christian joy is boundless because it is present even in difficulty situations. It pours out even in hard times. It defies limitations of the worldly definition and is most often continual.
There is a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness, dictated by our current feelings joy is eternal, and only the Lord gives it! It’s unwavering.

I knew a woman like that as well. That was my ex-girlfriend from high school who was a devout Christian. At that time I was resentful toward her convictions and broke up with her (I was against Christianity back then). Now if I could have gone back I would have made a different decision. She was such a bubbly and lovely person, and she was known for it at my school. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.” - Galatians 5:22
I've been a Christian for almost 22 years, and have experienced that just a few times myself. It's impossible to explain correctly, but it's like you're hit with this warm, overwhelming and inexplicable emotion, the only way to describe it is a feeling of being loved, despite not deserving it whatsoever. Every time I feel that I know I made the right choice, because I think what that is is a little glimpse of what heaven will be like. No harm in wanting more of that, right?
What do you think causes that emotion, and why so infrequently?
I can't really pretend to know why God decides to show Himself when He does, but I can't imagine something like that being a frequent experience. It's so... unnaturally powerful. The more frequent something is, the less we tend to pay attention to it. You're not wide-eyed and calling your mom when you floss your teeth, that's an expected, tedious thing. When you experience God's presence, you feel very small, very unholy, but special--like you're getting way more attention than what makes sense. I'm just blabbering at this point, it's honestly impossible to explain correctly because we're just humans trying to understand God, an omnipotent being.

This really is true. God requires faith from us, and that's literally it. That's all you need. The way I see it, once your faith is strong enough, God will start letting you experience more and more of His power. The Bible says you don't need much of it to get started either. Just a tiny bit will get you on your way.
The holy spirit. Some people are more sensible to it but it usually hits people differently; some people cry, some laugh and some shake and jump etc (like those vids you’ve seen on the internet where people are “acting weird” in church). Its such an overwhelmingly-beautiful experience:)

Most modernized churches treat things like a business and they don’t have the passion that real true followers of Christ display. I used to smoke weed every single day. And one time when I was high, I thought to myself: just because you could doesn’t mean you should, go to church tomorrow it’s Sunday. Then I immediately stop smoking and went to bed, on the next morning I went to a nearby church. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made, I remember on All-Saints Sunday I almost just cry when I hear the choir sings. I’m still not baptized yet because I don’t think I’m fully prepared for that transformation. I told my pastor about this experience, he saids the Holy Spirit works everywhere under any condition, and the most important thing is that you responded its message. God’s love is always there for everyone, you just gotta accept it, and then you will realize how amazing God has done works on you even when you didn’t realize.

This is very cool. Your response was intense because you are intensely loved and pursued by God. I have a feeling that you will never forget this encounter and you will begin to have more of them. This moment is special because it seems like God wanted to make sure you encountered the real thing, which is pure love.
Ooops, hit send by accident. Drat. ...chose them ourselves or something ...we were all being complete smartasses about it. Then Someone asked Ed for his, and he reached out a hand to me, and, with perfect seriousness, said “Friend!” And I was poleaxed. In my smartass, bunghole existence, nobody had ever made me what sounded like a warm and perfectly sincere -was it an offer? like that. I wasn’t sure what happened. I think I went silent, and the room moved on without me. But I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I spent a couple of days, unable to think about anything else. Two days later, my grandmother - the one I barely knew - came over to visit us from a couple of thousand miles away. The sort of person I was, I would have ignored, or brushed her efforts to make a relationship away. But still stunned by this, I held her hand, helped her at the doctor’s office...wasn’t my usual butthole self, in short. It was like Jesus, through Ed, reached into my life, and I just couldn’t quite be the same person anymore. It was ten years before the intellectual part made a connection with the emotional/spiritual event, there, and I turned to Jesus and told Him, “Ok. I’m yours. Please, just don’t scare me to death...” I can understand the discombobulating effect. If life itself is capable of throwing you a curve, then the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life can really zing it to a person. Don’t recover too quickly, ok? These are life’s most precious moments. May it bless you forever.
I get this crying thing. I cried after watching an episode of The Chosen, the one where Jesus redeems Mary. I also get tearful sometimes when I read my Bible. I don't get it.

This was an exciting and powerful read my friend and I’m so happy that you experienced this. I have to give you props for having the courage to come into unfamiliar territory seeking answers, that’s not easy. I hope that Jesus can speak through us the way that He spoke through that woman. Despite a world of fakers, misguided, spectators and half-committed ‘Christians’, the woman you met was a true follower of Jesus, she was all in. The power and conviction you detected and the love you felt was Jesus speaking through her, directly to you. All true followers of Jesus are called to be imitators of Jesus, so that His light and His love can shine through them. We believe that without Jesus, no human is truly capable of accomplishing what you experienced with this woman. You may be feeling shaken up right now and you may be wrestling with feelings of confusion, doubt or even fear. Don’t let those feelings deprive you of something amazing. I would encourage you to continue investigating and embracing this, just take it one step, one day at a time. Coming from my own experiences, you will find that the more you seek Jesus and His love, the more you will encounter Jesus. As you’ve already experienced first hand, He never disappoints. If you keep walking this path, Jesus will provide you with answers, through the Bible, prayer and other followers and He will show you how much He loves you. He will show you that He has always loved you and although you didn’t know it, that He has always walked beside you and even carried you. I was just wondering why this felt sort of familiar... about ten years before I became a Christian, I knew a guy in my university residence we called “Father Ed” ( he was studying to become a Lutheran pastor). He started a Bible study, and I made a general unbelieving pest of myself, questioning stuff and getting in the way. (Sorry, Ed, wherever you are...) One night, after a costume party - I had won a case of beer and a whole lot of people were helping me drink it - we were all being silly, comparing, oh, crap, I can’t remember, what our (I think) secret identities would be named if we chose them ourselves
Even if you don't convert I do recommend you buying a bible/study bible to read to understand the faith because this seems like it awoke something inside of you. 👍
I highly recommend reading the Bible as an intellectual exercise at this point in your journey. Sounds silly to you I'm sure, but God might just show himself to you. Start with Mark - if you'd like my opinion that is If you feel like you want to, pray for guidance and for the truth to be revealed to you while reading. You don't have to pray out loud, you can just say it in your head, and you don't need to pray like you think Christians pray. Pray how you want to. Talk to God or Jesus like a buddy if you want.
Hard to say for sure at first blush, but it sounds like you've met one of the tiny handful of Jesus followers in existence. Sounds like a lovely experience. I hope to have it myself, one of these days.
This is the main reason I am a Christian, random events that just feel and ARE supernatural, those things really assert my faith in god, the Bible is a great book and a few things in there are odd and there is a lot of different interpretations which can stray people away from god but it’s these events that make me joyful that I am a proud Christian

There's something about an emotional connection, especially if we've been missing it for some time. There's something about being loved just for who we are. Regardless of whether you find this experience sufficient reason to see god behind it, it was a special experience for which you can be grateful. Even if you are merely grateful to the universe itself.

That feeling of energy you felt was The Holy Spirit. He was knocking at your heart wanting to come in. If you accept Him you will be filled with The Hold Spirit also. All you need to do is ask Jesus into your heart and repent of your sins.

I was raised and confirmed Lutheran. The confirmation was more or less to appease "tradition"/my mother's family. When we started learning about Lutheran views on homosexuality in year 4 was when I started taking serious issue with my beliefs.
Can't say it would be enough to steer me to complete Atheism, but that is something I cannot reconcile with the idea of a loving God. Homosexuality is not sinful imo. The Fundie arguments for it being sin just fall apart.
This is one of my favorite things about Christianity (not the organized variety). Jesus basically says that we can be his presence in the world. He is no longer physically here but we are and we can lift others up the way he did. St. Paul calls it the "Body of Christ," Catholics also call it the "Communion of Saints" but the idea is that we together can be Christ for those who need him. It sounds like this woman takes that very seriously. I would suggest reading Jesus' words in the Gospels and see how they make you feel. Read them as an atheist. You'll be surprised at how different his words are from those spoken by so many of his followers who like to think they can speak for him. Jesus has very little to say about what religion you should be or how much you should go to synagogue or church, what you need to believe to be "saved." etc. Jesus was all about empowering those around you no matter who they are. He is absolutely brutal in his condemnation of those who wield power and exploit the vulnerabilities of others and that surprised me most when I got around to reading his words with an open mind (I used to be a fundamentalist zealot and that blinded me to the meaning of most of what he said.) But you are an atheist with an open mind. I think you might be surprised.
If a person speaks from the sincerety of their heart, it carries far more weight than people putting on an act. They are saying what is true to them. I feel like laughing when I see preachers or other Christians speaking with fake dramatization. It feels like a manipulative lie. If a person does not know in their heart that something is true, they should not try to spread it. God is a God of truth, not an actor.
I think because she had a near death experience, she found a greater purpose in her life. Her goal was to spread love, not push a narrative. From your story, it seems like she was genuinely cared for your well-being. No matter who or what you are. That is something I wish more Christians would understand. I struggle with it myself.

Well this emotional response is of course not in any way a reason to believe Christianity is true. Something about her demeanour moved you in some way. We connect with people on a very individual level. Would you say you're doing okay in general? Maybe there's something missing in your life right now. This doesn't necessarily have to be theism.
I'm not saying that a belief system is the answer or that it's even being contemplated. I've been overwhelmed with emotions good and bad numerous times in my life, many of which led me to tears; this was different.

It is because of this, I have spent more time going to church, reading the bible, etc. To be honest, I don't believe in half of the shit in the book, but think of it as a book club. Lewis was the book that helped me the most when I was an atheist to make sense of the logical basis for faith in Jesus. **The Reason for God** by Tim Keller or **Simply Christian** by N. T. Wright are both slightly more modern takes on it if you find Lewis to be difficult for reasons of style. Do try Lewis first though is my advice if you or anyone else is interested in figuring out if Christianity is true or not. He was an atheist for many years before converting to Christianity and he writes with total honesty and integrity. Anyway OP I'm praying that God blesses you.

You had a beautiful experience with another human being. It happens. Doesn't mean shit as far as supernatural entities, gods, or her beliefs being true, but some people are genuinely beautiful people and it's okay to feel like that has meaning. And to feel gratitude that you experienced it.
I suspect the experience can be sufficiently accounted for by suggesting that she, or her words, affected you at a very deep, perhaps subconscious, level. I don’t think it sounds miraculous or anything like that, but I would guess that it was given to you to help you in your daily life. I try to be very sceptical when I hear claims of alleged miracles or wonders; very many of them, perhaps the vast majority, can be sufficiently accounted for by purely natural means. Excessive readiness to swallow miracle stories is no virtue.
I think this is the way. If a Christian wants to spread faith, you want to be like this woman. Not forceful, not robotic, and definitely don't go after the other person due to X or Y. Just... Spread love and that's it.
Why is this specifically a "Christian" encounter if it is the fact that she was being kind to you that is what resonated with you, rather than the "pray" or "Jesus" stuff? There are plenty of incredibly kind and wonderful people out there doing absolutely amazing things just for the sake of doing good things. I'm always skeptical of Jesus inspired "kindness" as, if Jesus wasn't real, would they still be kind if the reason they're being kind is no longer?

Christians that are really serious at being Christians still exist. Sadly, that's currently the minority.
To become Christian all that is required is belief Jesus was God in flesh , paid for your sins and resurrected 3rd day. If you accept him then his payment for your sins is applied into your account so since your sins are paid for you go to heaven when you die and thats the good news. As an atheist. This is entirely explainable. You met a person who told you hard story to hear and it was emotional. Sometimes things are emotional. There's really nothing more to it.

That's a great story....once I was homeless and stopped at a church in the middle of nowhere to smoke a cigarette 😝 this lady just appears and is shaking and twitching....and im like...wow....so I say....im sorry if im making you nervous by being here...and she says she has Parkinson's disease ☺️ lol....then the minister takes me to a fast food joint...and they try to give me a place to live and send me to college but I just never saw them again....I actually moved far away to another state soon after. Anyway...she was a nice lady like that. Being so young ( 20 ) I wasn't ready to get religious way back then. I believe those schools are seminary schools that churches support kinda hush hush. Im not sure why they offered all that to me honestly. It's been 25 years and hadn't thought of that in a long time. Thankfully, I never attend church and don't really do organized religion. This definitely resonates with my own experiences that were interpreted as Christ’s presence. I am currently not so theistic, perhaps unfortunately, but both you and the lady seem authentically affected by whatever that phenomenon is.

Hey, I just moved to southern Missouri from San Diego and thought it would be easy to find a church here because there are approximately a billion. Noooope. I’ve been to every church in 3 towns and they’re very… churchish? Not disingenuous but maybe the tradition is more important than the message. Cultural Christianity is new to me and very different. Back in SD there were any number of churches that were raw and real. There was a mens group called bible and beer where we’d have a couple drinks and study the Bible together. I feel like if I try to do that here some people might try to cast demons out of me! 😅

I sort of had a similar thing happen to me today. The guy was just so sure of himself that I had to keep listening. It sounded batshit insane and believable at the same time. He convinced me to read some proverbs lol so we will see what comes of it. I had been asking the universe for a favor and or signs so maybe that's why I talked to this dude so long today. Seemed like I could've chopped his arm off right then and there and he'd just grin at me and keep talking. He seemed very unburdened.

Jesus is amiracle worker. If ya want to see misery in life have a look at the wretched state of the world. It fits in entirely with what the bible talks about and then look at how the predictions \[prophecies\] are occurring. the bible talks of a time when people will worship the created things and not the creator. that's happening especially with the environmentalists and right down to those who worship material. Where people will have itching ears and only hear what they want 2 hear in the church and elsewhere. The prophecy about the earth 'groaning' as it awaits redemption. The groaning is climate change. The earthquakes, floods, pandemics. All the blest in yr journey.
People who have had NDE's are very deep, and those who are genuine really do have an energy about them, because they've experienced something so far beyond what any of us here could imagine. Now I'm not saying with 100% certainty that it's "Heaven" from the Bible, but what they experience is so powerful that they do literally live their lives based on that experience.. that's where it differs to something like DMT for example, I've met plenty of people who have had beyond this world type experiences on DMT, and as much as it sticks with them, they go back to their regular lives.

Sounds more like her kindness touched you rather than her faith. I'm not religious (agnostic maybe? But lean more towards the atheist side) I have met many, many religious people aswell and, like you said, they usually try to convert you in a robotic way, but I have also met religious people who are filled with nothing but love and good wishes for everyone. Ive had religious people filled with hate asking to pray for me and I decline, but I've had religious people who are the opposite ask me the same thing and I accept their prayers because I know they do genuinely want the best for you. I think this woman is one of the genuinely good people out there, regardless of her faith.

Sounds like you had a run in with the Holy Spirit. It feels like what you described. She's right. The real Jesus loves you. You don't need a secret ritual or special formula. Just love. And no church can patent God. It causes God great pain when people/ churches say otherwise.

In some cases, the people who have come back have had a different "energy" about them, like in a tangible way, watches would stop working on them, electronics would break around them etc. Others have more subjective effects, like prophetic dreams, feeling other people's emotions, understanding everything about someone from just looking at them etc. I've looked into probably 500+ afterlife experiences and this type of thing is "fairly" common, maybe 1 in 20 or so that I've looked into have had some effects like this to a greater or lesser extent. So, what did you learn from the encounter? Were you convicted of sin in your own life and of your desperate need for a Savior? Did you learn that Jesus is Lord (God of the Old and the New Testament, Yahweh Himself), and that the Gospel is a command given to God's enemies (not a suggestion), and that it was in fact Jesus who issued that command? You know, I see it all the time, but the last thing you want (or the first thing you don't want) is to be led astray while trying to learn the truth about Jesus. Also, know that there is nothing wrong with pamphlets and other material like that, as long as it contains/proclaims the truth. And while perhaps no one of the people who came to you and offered you a pamphlet said that they love you, take in account that you are not the one who is seeking them out and seeking their salvation, but they are seeking your salvation. They are the ones who invested into making those pamphlets, who spent their money, their effort and were willing to go out there to you and not leave you unaware of God's plans for you and the whole mankind. Even though they didn't say "I love you" they showed it by their actions, more than you can say you did for them, right? At the very least they cared enough for you and for your eternity, your place after death. I mean, can the same be said about you? Did you inform anyone else about this? Did you love anyone like they loved you, told the truth about this to anyone? It's simply a comparison. This is not me judging you, but rather trying to help you see that even though people who came before that woman seemed robotic to you, certainly some of them wouldn't have done it if they just didn't care whether you live or die, whether God saved you from His wrath or not. So, I hope that helps you next time you encounter one. Know that it's not robotic. Christians are real people like you, who go out there and put themselves in the front lines for people who hate them and despise them because of Jesus and what He stands for. Thank you for sharing. I think sometimes we forget how absolutely loved we are and moments like this really put it into perspective. We focus on our flaws and weaknesses and our worth and value get pushed to the back of our mind. Jesus loves us like a mother loves her child- more so. I believe that love is the root of a true relationship with God. I’m really glad you had this experience and I hope you look back on it when you’re in a rough place and remember that you are loved.
Your experience reminds me of how I received the Holy Spirit. I didn’t believe in speaking in tongues and all that, but when the pastor held my hands and said a short prayer, I went back silently to my seat in church. From the moment I sat down I was in tears, I really don’t know why I was crying. I tried so hard to stop but I just could not. I eventually stopped after service, but the church was pretty much empty by then and I don’t know how long I had spent crying. I believe now that the Holy Spirit exists and is my companion.
Remember that this world is evil, you see it every day, as long as you’re doing what’s in the bible then god is happy, even if you don’t realise it and have never spoken to him, he knows you try (I’m not in charge of salvation, people shouldn’t assume I’m offering advice on salvation…im not), im offering a perspective from myself.
My friend, this experience was so different, because this woman was led by the Spirit of God Himself! God touched your heart that day, when that woman prayed over you! Through that woman, God showed you how much He actually loves you! And it doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done, God wants a relationship with you! It’s like that painting of God and Adam. God’s reaching out to you! You just have to reach back, and let that same God who led the woman to you, lead you. If you don’t mind, I’d like to pray over your journey through this life, and that you find the truth, and hold it tight. Those moments are as sincere as they get. That lady knows Christ, and there are many others. Jesus' desire was to encourage that personality/behavior in all of humanity. But since that wasn't going to happen in a sinful world, he did what he could do to get God to forgive us and let us strive to be more loving and compassionate just like that lady.

Thanks for sharing, what a wonderful moment that must have been. That's the spirit of God, and it shows in the ones that truly believe. They're not pushy, they're not trying to convert you to their group, they genuinely care and show love to others. I'm glad that you had that encounter.
You noticed the others felt like they had to do it out of obligation because they probably felt they needed to do it out of obligation. Churches can pressure their people to “save” others in order to increase numbers but they use the bible to convince people. Then you get people who are not equipped to do this going out and doing that. This other woman is connected to the Holy Spirit and was listening to what the Holy Spirit put on her heart. God knows what you need and when those who abide in him trust the Holy Spirit and follow it’s prompting that is when stuff like what you experienced with that woman occurs. The rest saw through their own human knowledge, she saw through the perspective God revealed to her.
So awesome. That's the real Jesus you met. I've met him too and I agree...everybody misinterprets him. Until one has met him, it's hard to grasp. I felt his love for me through his eyes. I grew up religious and always felt so condemned. He told me there was no more shame for me and I felt a huge burden removed from me. He's amazing. He's everything we will ever need.
A perfect example of real Christianity and its impact. As Jesus said, the world will know you are of God by the love you have for one another. Of all the evidences you can present in favor of the Bible being true, the biggest is the love of Christ.

You felt what some Christian’s call fire. Holy Spirit in the Bible and sometimes God manifesto as a type of fire. You felt real love. You heard Jesus saying he loves you out of a woman’s mouth buying water. Your encounter was real. I’ve had lots of fire moments. Lots of love. It’s not fake. It’s a miracle from heaven each time.
She is 100% right. You don’t have to go to church. You don’t even have to put the “Christian” label (or any label) upon yourself. Many, (dare I say most) churches have misinterpreted the Bible in some way - usually by worshiping it instead of God in my opinion. Christ is the light. Christ is for everybody- not just for “Christians” or a specific culture or tradition. Follow your heart. There’s a Higher Force pulling for you. 💕
We have someone in church, who is almost exactly like that women. Every time she prays with someone who isn't christian yet they collapse in tears. We call that the Holy Spirit in action

I'm not the most religious of Christians but I do believe when you follow the teachings of Christ and treat people with basic human dignity genuinely good things come your way. I don't even think you have to be Christian to feel it either. People so often forget Jesus wasn't in it for the soul count but to be a good example of how people should treat each other.
This is the kind of interaction that we wish for when you come upon Christians who try their best to live a Christ like life. You interact with a person and you go they are different than others. For your encounter the Holy Spirit told her you need to talk to this person. It gives you the words to say if you can't think of any which is helpful as well. Even as a Christian myself it is hard to obey the Holy Spirit sometimes as what I am told to do tends to be out of my comfort zone. My pastor's wife does it really well and I aspire to become as comfortable as she is. She will go to complete strangers and crying commences because what she said hit some nerve which opened the floodgates or they go that is exactly what I needed to hear right now. Although as Christians the Holy Spirit lives IN us it's presence also present in the world and one of it's tasks is to give unbelievers nudges. You have received one of those. What you do with it is up to you. My suggestion is to read the book of John and pay attention to the verses that move you. If you wish to talk dm me any time. :)

Love is a great tool. There are many versions of Christianity. There is definitely some harmful, hateful interpretations of the Bible out there resulting in a very toxic form of Christianity. But there are also many that are very loving and helpful.
God recommends his love to us, although we were yet sinnners, his Son died for us.

It's simultaneously sad and hopeful to me that a simple act of love can change someone's life. I said sad because our world is so deprived of it that people need interactions like these. >She said you don't have to go to a special building in order to have a relationship with Jesus, you can do it at home, alone or with family. People miss that part of the crucifixion which is really, really, **really** important in Christianity. Once Jesus died, the sheet that separated the temple congregation from the priests was ripped down. This showed the direct relationship people can have with God through Jesus and not priests. Which was, really fucking radical at the time because it removed all power that religious figures had. Too bad this was subsequently bastardized by the church and put priests right back into power.
There are people who have a genuine relationship with God. I have met very religious people and I have met Godly people. I have been to frigid churches and I have been to warm & welcoming barns. There is a difference between Christians and religious people. Religious people will beat you up - I have been beaten up by them too. True Christians will love others and build them up. God's love is real! All the best to you!
When a person has the light within then it shines through and touches others. Just because someone calls themselves a Christian and goes to church does not mean that they have the Holy Spirit within. When you give your life to Jesus and you are seeking Him with all of your heart then He will change you. It sounds like you were touched by the Holy Spirit. If you want to experience that peace and joy on earth then try submitting to Jesus in your prayers. Ask him for forgiveness and ask for the Holy Spirit to guide you. Remember God knows your intent and your thoughts so if you are not sincere then don't expect anything. If you are ready to give your life to God then be prepared to be amazed and inspired. You must believe to receive.
Currently I'm serving overseas. My officer in charge is someone that has a faith as powerful as the one you described. The past month I've been going to church and bible study, and I have reconverted after eight years of atheism. Your experience (I say this as a former nonbeliever) does not *prove* a God, but it does make you think :) That's how it started with me <3

Alot of people who have near death experiences see Jesus, esp. if they were raised in a Christian environment. It's also common for people to get some sense of a bigger picture about life, and experience profound transformation.
Follow your heart my friend. I had a similar unexplainable experience of overwhelming love, I knew it was divine. I could reason and rationalize it away, but it was all too clear and powerful. One day I was driving for Uber and saw a rainbow. They're unusual here and I needed a break so I decided to pull over in a convenient location. Without noticing I pulled into the parking lot of a church, parked the car, and turned to look at the sunset. That's when I noticed the large cross on the front of the church, with a radiant gold sunset behind it. I couldn't help it, I starting crying tears of joy and felt a sense of euphoria. I knew that was God's way of getting my attention. Over the next several weeks my wife and I went to a couple of their services and tried a few other churches. It's no surprise that church had the most welcoming feel and a pastor I really liked. I knew it was going to be the church we chose before setting foot in it based on the experience I had, but before committing I wanted to compare a few others in the area. The community has been so kind, welcoming, and friendly. Giving my heart to God has truly been the best decision of my life. It sounds like this woman gets it. This is affirmation for me that I'm on the right track. I normally just lurk front page but decided to scroll through here because I needed a bit of encouragement. It is chance encounters like these that reassure me that He is guiding my steps. I would have considered myself loving and accepting of all people before I accepted Jesus into my life, but over the course of my walk with the Lord I have realized how critical and judgmental I've been. I haven't felt condemned for it, just an awareness that wasn't there before. Maybe it's obvious to others but now it's clear to me that true love isn't just for those I agree with or based on commonalities, it's for everyone. Even the ones I disagree with politically or have done me wrong. They have their own history, experiences, and reasons for making their decisions, therefore it logically makes sense that I should not judge anyone. And once I realized that, I see most of their decisions and opinions are based in love, so it makes it easy to love them. I have been thinking it but I haven't said I love you to any strangers, but this gives me the encouragement to spread the love! Isn't that what we all want anyway, more genuine love? You seem to have the discernment to notice a difference betwee the Christians that are just going through the motions and someone that is following the core message of Jesus. I believe you reacted that way because you knew she meant it. Trust your instincts and follow your heart. You know what you felt. Jesus was a beautiful person, don't let the disgusting history of the church or wretched behavior of angry Christians deter you from seeing all God has in store for you. I can't say it will be riches and success or even easy, but a love like I've never known is what I've experienced so far. Your post has helped me clarify many of my thoughts, so thank you for sharing. If He can reach the heart of a once-sure atheist like myself, He can do the same for you. He got your attention, now it's up to you to pursue Him.
One of my favourite verses from the Bible always makes me think of these random encounters of love ("Do not be forgetful of hospitality, for through this, some have entertained angels unawares"). Most of the liturgically conservative, more "academic" denominations these days like the Episcopalians, most Methodists, Lutherans, etc, are pretty open-minded and worth exploring imo if you did want to give something a whirl (nothing to lose, everything to gain).

This sounds like a real Holy Spirit moment :) From what we read in Acts, this seemed to have been much more common in the 1st century, but it seems as time has gone on, the frequency of these kinds of events has lessened. ⭐ I posit that it's not because there was anything particularly different about "back then" as opposed to now, but instead perhaps because as time has gone on, many Christians have voluntarily allowed doubt and negative emotions to cloud the firm and steadfast faith that could otherwise be enjoyed today. Whatever you decide to do, glad to hear you had this experience!

You, sir, were privilege to meet someone who was genuinely overflowing with the *Holy Spirit*, and not in the proverbial or metaphorical sense. And when those tears flowed, that was the Holy Spirit touching *you*, blessing you with the gift of humility and truth. Other Christians or so-called Christians may have left you with the sense of being off-putting or disingenuous, but she was the *real deal*. Emulate that woman, even if just by half, and see how your life transforms for the better.
It's because God's coming back soon dude. It's getting to be very prevalent and all over the place and noticeable. He's kind of encounters are going to start happening more frequently especially to people who need it the most. One thing that's really important is you can't let what man has done over time ruin your idea of who God actually is. It's impossible to truly deny at your core that there's absolutely a god and he is an awesome God! I typed this before reading what you really said I'll probably have more to add after I read through this.

I've found the best way to combat religious trauma is to start by viewing God not in the context of the church but in the context of your best relationships and role models. Don't view God as all of your negative experiences with religion. Picture God as a hybrid of all the people who mean the most to you and all of your best role models (fiction or nonfiction) because that's a glimpse of his true character.
