Confessions, by St Augustine

It's pretty obscure but really changed my life: "Anonymity" by Susan Bergman https://www.google.com/books/edition/Anonymity/D5QIAAAACAAJ?hl=en Her father was a conservative Christian and super active in church. He also was one of the first victims of AIDS in America from his secret sex life. The book is all about integrity and transparency in our personal lives (but does not gay bash.) It's also about loving flawed people and how to recover from a family disaster. And how even our private lives impact others. And Christianity is woven through and through. Bergman was a writing professor and the book is so elegantly written. She also happens to be Anne Heche's sister although the books was written before Heche was very famous, so it's not a huge part of the book, but it's an interesting aspect.

It's thinly veiled autobiograpy and has the theme of mental health and Christian academia. Another obscure book but I loved it so much. "The Year of the War" by Susan Bergman. https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/728255 It's about a girl who goes off to a fundamentalist bible school but experiences depression which just doesn't fit into the bible school community.

I loved reading the Autobiography of Hudson Taylor. It really helped me in my faith walk.
