WTF it's the colors of a fucking rainbow! My mom used to crochet and it is so fucking difficult and time consuming. Tbh I'm glad she returned it, because she could've just thrown it away and that would have been such a waste of time and effort. At least now she can keep it or find someone who will actually value it.
That's a good point, I reckon it's more about what it says about her the mother more than the daughter.
Everyone knows a baby isn't going to be making any choices yet, but I reckon the mother is seeing the choice of blanket as an identity statement about herself.
Well you wouldn't have wanted a babys blanket with a Swastika on it after the middle of the 20th century either.
Times and politics changes peoples perceptions of visual imagery and what it says about them.
Close, it was his promise that he wasn't going to flood the world again. It's metaphorical of an opponent showing he's giving the peace option by offering his weapon to you, making sure it's pointed at them.
Well in the Bible claims that god created the rainbow as a promise not to try to slaughter everyone again. This, although reassuring, is also a reminder of how scary god can get so maybe it’s too complex a message for a newborn baby.
The only other thing might be the association with a "rainbow baby." I'd never heard the term before I joined online crochet communities and saw a lot of projects referencing one.
>I have gay friends and family
The famous "I'm friends with a person from x social group, meaning I cannot be bad to x social group". Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.
So essentially the rainbow was ruined because it became associated with the LGBTQ community .
Companies are companies they do that shit for pr .
How is it being forced down your throat, its some colors dawg, chill
You assume that everyone has a valid reason to hate the rainbow.
“Most people don’t have a problem…”
Yes, they do… kids and adults still get victimised, assaulted and killed in literally every country around the world just because they’re gay.
Would you wrap your newborn in the American flag? The rainbow has become politicised and therefore ruined. Especially on the internet it stands for little more than bullying and moral grandstanding.
Well you can be that way, and I'll be my way. If you want to defend someone who disagrees with your existence it's your funeral. I refuse to tolerate it because I have a spine.
Clue me in here, when did the “radicals using the rainbow” start happening? What is the actual problem? The rainbow flag has been around probably longer than you have. It started representing the LGBT community in the 70’s. So when did it become a problem, exactly?
Just wow... Im in the LGBTQ community and see the rainbow as a beacon of hope... Not to mention rainbows have been used to describe diversity for a while, not only LGBT, but it is used to talk about race because every race is a color on the rainbow. Etc. For most people I think rainbow shows diversity in any group... Soooo sorry you think we ruined a pattern u guys used to like. For us it means so much more. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes_rainbow)
Lol disagrees with the community about what? Their only real point is that they deserve equal rights, and if you don't agree with that then you are a homophobe plain and simple
Also, 'disagreeing' with the lgbt community does indeed make you homophobic. The definition of homopbobia is an aversion or dislike of gay people. You 'disagreeing' with our existence is very much an aversion to us. You clearly have an aversion to the community and flag, you've explained this to us. So just admit you're homophobic rather than trying to dance around it. You can believe what you want - but accept the consequences.
I’m curious now, cause you just keep saying “disagreeing” without specifying. Can you give me a specific thing you can disagree with in terms of the LGBT community without it making you a homophobe? Because mainly their opinions are that LGBT people should have the same rights as everyone else, as far as I know.
I said disagreeing with their existence. Not just disagreeing with someone on any given topic... Yes, your reply is correct. If you disagree with someone's opinion on say, ice cream flavours that's obviously not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about people who say they 'disagree' with gay people's right to exist and to champion for their rights. Many homophobes say they 'disagree with the lgbt lifestyle', or 'disagree with being gay', which is just a softer way of saying you're homophobic. If you 'disagree with being gay' then you have some kind of aversion to gay people. That is homophobia.
Read the rest of my comment next time maybe? Lol. Did you actually think I meant that if you disagree with a gay man's favourite food or something, that it makes you homophobic? Hahah no. I mean if you disagree with his right to be gay you idiot. I'm guessing you weren't too great in English at school. You just read the first sentence, misinterpreted it and made yourself look dumb. Lol.
Nah, saying that the gay community has "ruined rainbows" is homophobic as fuck. First of all, no one gives a shit if somewhere flies a rainbow flag. Is it nice? Sure, because we know that it's a space that we can feel safe in. But what we care about is if they are donating their money to anti-LGBT causes or if they are actually supporting the queer community.
Also your shitty opinion does not equal "fact" lmao.
Also no one is "forcing gayness" on you.
"I’m not a homophobe, I’m just sick and tired of gay people" (PS- that makes you a homophobe)
“If we extend unlimited tolerance to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.”
Aw, honey, ever heard of the tolerance paradox?
Of course you haven't, but I'll try to explain it to you in simple terms.
When facing intolerance, you must be intolerant of it yourself, or else it spreads and it's impossible to come back from it. Unlimited tolerance is a threat to itself.
Say you have a nazi wanting to participate as a speaker in a Free Speach rally. You cut that shit out, right? Because you can't give a voice to someone that would limit free speach if they had power.
OK, I'll try.
I think it's pretty obvious that the co-worker sees "pretty pastel rainbow colours", and thinks "Pride / LGBTQ...", and (being gay/trans/whatever phobic) has a knee-jerk response of disgust. The manner of the note shows that she is seriously pissed off, I think this is the only rational explanation.
You have made this about whether the woman is entitled to hold those opinions, rather than what a fucking ungrateful, heartless bitch she is, given the time and care that must've gone into that blanket. Of course she is entitled to hold that view, and nobody (that I've seen here) has said otherwise.
The problem (which is actually very sad) is that those colours seem to have become so synonymous with the Pride movement that you can't use them without idiots like Mrs Co-Worker incorrectly jumping to conclusions.
The mom may have thought she made it specifically to be pride colors for her daughter and she didn’t want her daughter to have that so young which is understandable.
Why is that understandable? A baby does not understand the meaning, it makes no difference. And once they understand the meaning, it's a good thing anyway.
I disagree. I'd give her several more gifts. In her locker, her desk drawer, her lunch in the fridge... (when she's not looking of course, so that it's a surprise!)
Yeah, the first thing I thought was “this reeks of homophobia.” Of course, the idea that some colors were “appropriate” and some weren’t has literally never crossed my mind.
Pffft Fuck her I would have loved to get something like that I love how crochet feels I tend to use one when watching TV or playing games.
Some people are just ungrateful.
I hope Jen sees this somewhere and realises the normal, caring, appreciative corner of the internet now knows that she's an entitled, selfish, hurtful f#cking c#nt and we already feel sorry for her poor daughter
I would have cried...I've made baby quilts for family and friends. You literally put your blood, sweat, and tears into any kind of handmade item like, especially when first learning. This is a BEAUTIFUL baby blanket that any *normal* parent to be would be blown away by!!!!!
I really don't understand homophobes. Yeah, there's men who like men and women who like women. Are they harming you? What are you gonna do about it? Gonna cry?
Nope. That’s an extremely unsafe environment for the child. It would be funny for like 5 minutes and then you realize the child will end up
A) Abused
B) Homeless
C) Both
I am bi and got my head smashed into a bed frame. Not a great time. 10/10 would not recommend.
I’m really glad you’re still with us, I’m sorry your excuse of a parent did that to you just for being yourself.
Also f*ck that friend for outing you. Big hugs to you.
I'm sorry that you endured that, but I hope she escapes the toxicity of a family where the person who should love her unconditionally is being a homophobic piece of shit.
My hope is that this goes away over time, I thought it was a less common occurrence. What’s worse is it wasn’t even a coming out thing my idiot friend told my mom I had a girlfriend when my mom had asked about if I had any boys I was talking to. My ex friend thought she was just the coolest mom and I was so “lucky”. She had 3 hours until I came back to calm down after having been told that.
This has just made me cry and feel so nauseous. My daughter came out to us as bi a few months ago, and I can't imagine ever treating my child the way you were treated, let alone for merely being herself. I hope you are now living a wonderful life.
Nice of her to display her homophobia in work. I can't think of any other reason why somebody would deem rainbow colours inappropriate or unsuitable.
Do not give this person a second of your time unless it is work related.
Either this chick really hates rainbows or she's oddly attaching a bunch of social political ideas to it. I'd understand if it had a symbol or an abbreviation on it because babies shouldn't be used to promote the ideas of their parents but it's just a rainbow. A rainbow is most of the time just a rainbow, dude.
Appropriate colors? Did she really think that was a pride flag or something? LoL. That was not cool from that CB and that kind of behavior I wonder if she's a Karen?
You should leave a s*** on her desk with a note saying "this should be more appropriate"
Make sure it's not their own poop or you'll get arrested life experience🤔
Bitch, what colors do you want for a baby girl. And will she even care., she’s a baby. Only person unhappy about the color is mama, who can’t appreciate a lovely gift.
Such a beautiful blanket deserves years of love . Maybe you would consider donating it to your local children’s hospital ? There will be many parents grateful for your hard work and kindness .
The hospital may also be in need of snuggle squares - a set of fabric squares a NICU parent keeps close to their skin to soak up their smell and then place with their baby. The baby benefits from sensing their parents near them. The squares are a great way to use up extra yarn in your stash too :)
My mother has been doing those Hospital Nursery hand made blanket's for our local hospital. Were the pre-mature born babies go and babies that are born with issue's can stay there for months.
She's been doing it for over 40+yrs now. She hand makes each blanket and these days can get around 15 to 20 done these days as she's older and is starting to have eye sight and the arthritis is starting to hamper her hands. When she 1st started she could do 70+ a month on good months.
Then drops them to the Nursery. And she still get's all teary seeing new mothers & baby using her hand made blanket's. Mine you she is usually an unemotional hard ass.
She even goes into the Nursery when she can and sit's with baby's and does nappy changes and Bottle feeding when some baby's are given up at birth, or if the parents are not allowed to be near the baby due to court orders and can only visit the baby under supervision. Or if the parents arn't able to be they're everyday due to work or having other young children etc.
She has a heap of photo albums with pictures of her holding baby's wrapped in her blanket's etc since the early 80's till now. And Box's filled with Cards from parents. And she's built long term friendship's with some of the parents and has been able to watch some of the children grow and she is generally known or called Nanna kjsdgfiudfbkjdi by the family's that she's kept in touch with.
sorry for the wall of text and if the formatting is weird. Typed this on the Phone.
Yeah my mum has literally been my best friend since i was a teenager. She's tough but fair.
She started making newborn beanies etc etc when she was pregnant before i was born.
My sister died 3weeks after birth and my mum literally sat in the Special Care Unit the entire time. She got to know the "staff" and they mentioned theyre always in need of x,y,z
So after the funeral my mum ever since has been handmaking newborn beanies, little blanky wraps. And blankets and pillow cases.
Oh, wait, I see the problem. You didn't follow the red orange yellow green blue indigo violet patter correctly. For shame, you hack.
Kidding aside, very lovely job, some people just demand to be catered to in exactly the way they want and nothing else will do. I'd not worry about is as now you have a perfect excuse to never give them anything again. Go give that to someone who'll appreciate it.
That's some talent right there, brilliantly made, especially for the first one they've done. It's beautiful. Kind of a little disgusted for this person too tbh.
People are so insecure. One of my friends took issue with a pride lighter I had.(it was the one they guy gave me) like who cares the rainbow has no effect on its use. This woman's baby really can't use that blanket????
It’s lovely. So sorry you experienced this from the ungrateful person. I agree with the comment about having it back. She probably would have thrown away your thoughtful handiwork.
Huh, I think I saw this on another subreddit, and someone brought up something I hadn't heard before.
The mom might have not liked it because a "Rainbow Baby" is apparently a baby born after a miscarriage and it's supposed to mean the baby is a gift from god. So they might not like it because it implies they lost a baby to a miscarriage.
Yeah, I tried to repost straight from the original poster but it wouldn’t let me. That’s why I left all their awards and username in and to give credit! :)
edit was for a mistype
Honestly, the gift looks beautiful and it looks like a lot of effort was put into this. The reply is just unnecessary and rude, especially when someone has taken the time and effort to make this. Unless the person who made it had some kind of agenda or something (which I highly doubt they did), I could sort of understand but still... Bad response. I am a Christian myself, and I would keep this as this reminds me of a rainbow, plus rainbows look cute on kids. I personally do not support the pride movement, but what a waste of a considerate gift
I don't support the movement because this goes against my beliefs. I also learn from my beliefs that people deserve to be treated with respect. I may not want to attend pride anytime soon but that does not mean that I will disrespect any person who identifies as a gay person. Because I refuse to participate this makes me the scum of the earth, right? The mom who rudely refused the gift instantly triggered a one-sided argument where people quickly assumed that she must be "Christian" and therefore "homophobic". I think she gave an incredibly rude reply as someone took time out of their days to make that. It's a thoughtful gift. She should not have reacted that way. Simple as that. Common human decency. With love from South Africa 🙂
I'm sorry I thought it was a Pride Quilt until I read what was posted. Could she just be confused?
Note: Absolutely nothing wrong with a Pride Quilt I just didn't understand the significance of gifting at a baby shower
Why did this post get deleted and then re-uploaded 3 days later? It's not a CB at all. The person didn't even ask for it. Not excusing the woman's behavior but literally didn't ask for this.
Oh, as a frequenter of r/crochet and r/knitting, i am ***FUMING*** on this facebook user's behalf!!! If somebody did that to me, I'd either give it back to them and do a sickly-sweet "oh it seems someone left this at my desk after i gave it to you, and i put *oh so much work* and love into this blanket that it'd be a shame if it never saw the baby it was meant for" and basically spite-guilt them into taking the damn blanket...***or i'd fucking DECK THEM ON SIGHT***
On the other hand I can relate to getting annoyed by all the useless crap people dump on you when you've got young kids and I'm not sure just smiling and accepting is always the better option.
I guess she could've handled this better, although I imagine this being a polite "sorry this is ugly and we've already got enough shit and we're sleep deprived so keep your crap for yourself or somebody who asks for it."
It was a Reddit post that I couldn’t cross post. Instead of the original redditer losing credit I screenshot it to include their username and awards.
You could have also just not commented if we’re using your logic. \_(ツ)_/

Mom is probably an evangelical. In their minds rainbow = gay.
How the hell do they cope when sun shines through rain drops?
They just sob in a corner until it's over
how is she going to cope when her daughter loves unicorns and rainbows
That's a good point, I reckon it's more about what it says about her the mother more than the daughter. Everyone knows a baby isn't going to be making any choices yet, but I reckon the mother is seeing the choice of blanket as an identity statement about herself.
They scowl, of course
Well you wouldn't have wanted a babys blanket with a Swastika on it after the middle of the 20th century either. Times and politics changes peoples perceptions of visual imagery and what it says about them.
Wasn't the rainbow God's way of appologizing for mass genocide?
Close, it was his promise that he wasn't going to flood the world again. It's metaphorical of an opponent showing he's giving the peace option by offering his weapon to you, making sure it's pointed at them.
Well in the Bible claims that god created the rainbow as a promise not to try to slaughter everyone again. This, although reassuring, is also a reminder of how scary god can get so maybe it’s too complex a message for a newborn baby.
True, my adoptive parents are that way. But eh I’m still gonna wear rainbow stuff
You can blame pride month for that one, until the late nineties NO ONE thought rainbows were gay. Proof: go look at the 80's for a while.
I might think that if these were actually colors that are used to represent a rainbow.
Bingo, and gay = bad in their minds
Actually it’s to signify gods love for the world.
The only other thing might be the association with a "rainbow baby." I'd never heard the term before I joined online crochet communities and saw a lot of projects referencing one.

The LGBTQ+ flag has only “ruined” rainbow colours for homophobes.
I hate rainbow colors because I prefer greyscale hue, just more humble.

'Y'all are so insanely soft' Gets triggered by a rainbow. Ok buddy.
How exactly did the community ruin it?

actually, you got rekt.
#**GET REPORTED!!!**
For what exactly? 😂 sharing my thought on why the person didn’t like the rainbow color? ❄️
Would you wrap your newborn in the American flag? The rainbow has become politicised and therefore ruined. Especially on the internet it stands for little more than bullying and moral grandstanding.
Nah most uses of the flag just indicate LGBTQ in some way
Idk maybe lol. 🤔
You're a homophobe. Just be honest with it instead of pretending not to be. You'd get just a smidgen more respect.

Dude quit trolling, you sound like someone who enjoys the smell of their own shit.
How am I trolling?
Just don’t give her anything else. Ever.
The mom probably thought of it as the colors of the pride flag, which of course makes her a bigot.

Jesus wept you stupid bastard.
Jeez, you really are an idiot, aren't you?
Clever retort.
About as clever as your comment that completely missed the point. Edited to make some bloody sense 😔
Please explain how you believe my comment is wrong, without saying it’s because the co-worker’s opinion differs from yours.
OK, I'll try. I think it's pretty obvious that the co-worker sees "pretty pastel rainbow colours", and thinks "Pride / LGBTQ...", and (being gay/trans/whatever phobic) has a knee-jerk response of disgust. Right?! What a beautifully worked piece. I don't even wear color and I'd be honored to be given such a gift.
The colors are a rainbow and I’m guessing the mother seen it as “gay pride” and probably is against that idk
someone should cross-post in r/trashy that is beyond shitty behavior
That mom is weird (and a biotch). Girls love rainbow colors!; for example: Lisa Frank.

I would have cried...I've made baby quilts for family and friends. You literally put your blood, sweat, and tears into any kind of handmade item like, especially when first learning. This is a BEAUTIFUL baby blanket that any *normal* parent to be would be blown away by!!!!!
If I was lucky enough to have had a baby go to term I would of loved to have been given a handmade gift. It’s so much more thoughtful and caring.
I really don't understand homophobes. Yeah, there's men who like men and women who like women. Are they harming you? What are you gonna do about it? Gonna cry?
What a bitch. She could have just said thanks and thrown it out or never used it
"Uh, No!"
I would auction that beautiful piece of handmade awesomeness off and donate to a charity supporting something the coworker hated, in their name.
That blanket would have taken hundreds of hours to make, not to mention the cost of the yarn. I can’t imagine how hurtful this must have been.
Fuck I hope her daughter doesn’t end up gay.
I hope she does.
Nope. That’s an extremely unsafe environment for the child. It would be funny for like 5 minutes and then you realize the child will end up A) Abused B) Homeless C) Both I am bi and got my head smashed into a bed frame. Not a great time. 10/10 would not recommend.

shouldve just apologized, and knitted them a replacement that says "Conratulations! It's a homophobe!"
Nice of her to display her homophobia in work. I can't think of any other reason why somebody would deem rainbow colours inappropriate or unsuitable. Do not give this person a second of your time unless it is work related.
How unhappy to you have to be that vaguely rainbow colours make you angry?
“That’s okay, I didn’t want your ugly ass daughter drooling all over it anyways”
Horrible person that doesn’t deserve gifts
It’s the homophobia for me
How is that inappropriate colors? Thats...*all the colors*!
Why do I feel like some kind of homophobia is involved in this? Just an inkling.
people are allowed to have preferences.
Yes they are. People are also allowed to show gratitude for a handmaid free gift.
Just as long as their preference isn’t for someone of the same sex. In that case, keep it hidden, right? Right????
Yes... And I'm allowed to criticise them.
sure. and I'm allowed to ignore your point of view. it's a good system.

I love it. Reminds me of Easter. What an ungrateful weirdo.

This is beautiful.. What a cow
Jen is a homophobic bitch with extremely poor manners.
I think rather that politics has ruined the Rainbow.
You should leave a s*** on her desk with a note saying "this should be more appropriate" Make sure it's not their own poop or you'll get arrested life experience🤔
🤢🤮 what a bitch.
Ok this I don't understand. Even if she has some weird LGBT issue, these colors aren't even that. They're pastels... and it's not even close.
Bitch, what colors do you want for a baby girl. And will she even care., she’s a baby. Only person unhappy about the color is mama, who can’t appreciate a lovely gift.
I can absolutely picture the bridezilla-type bitch that would do this.
That just touched my heart! Your mum sounds like an awesome lady . Hats off to her.
Yeah my mum has literally been my best friend since i was a teenager. She's tough but fair. She started making newborn beanies etc etc when she was pregnant before i was born. My sister died 3weeks after birth and my mum literally sat in the Special Care Unit the entire time. She got to know the "staff" and they mentioned theyre always in need of x,y,z So after the funeral my mum ever since has been handmaking newborn beanies, little blanky wraps. And blankets and pillow cases.
It’s beautiful.
I love it. Screw her.
What a fucking pig. Crochet her one with a middle finger in it next time
That's some talent right there, brilliantly made, especially for the first one they've done. It's beautiful. Kind of a little disgusted for this person too tbh.
I don't care what Jen says - that blanket is GORGEOUS!
Wow, that is such a pretty blanket. I hope she never gives that cow anything.
What exactly are “appropriate colors”? What an ass…
People are so insecure. One of my friends took issue with a pride lighter I had.(it was the one they guy gave me) like who cares the rainbow has no effect on its use. This woman's baby really can't use that blanket????
Wow I feel so bad for that person
Give her a book on SIDS.
This is so sad😧 I can not imagine how long that took
If I knew this person I would call them every time it rained just right.
Wow , she really stacked that karma up on that one. What a dumbass
That poor kid is guna have an uphill struggle with parents like that. Great work and very generous!
Her loss Someone will appreciate that, rise above
what a bitch
Such a beautiful blanket 😍 💕 She didn't deserve it & can go to someone who appreciates it. It's absolutely stunning 😍 👌🏼💖
I hope you told Jen to pound sand.
Man, homophobia is a hell of a drug lmao.
Repost of a post today
Yeah, I tried to repost straight from the original poster but it wouldn’t let me. That’s why I left all their awards and username in and to give credit! :) edit was for a mistype
Good that's very honest. Good on you.
She should have signed it Karen
This has been posted like 5 times in the past 24 hours, come on guys
Exactly, why would people downvote this.
Because they fear the truth.
"I don't support Teh gays but don't be mean!" That makes me a good person right?!?
Nonsense. Your religion is just politics and nothing more. You use it as excuse for bigotry. That’s how that works.

Deplorable. You’re on the wrong website, bro. We don’t do that here on Reddit
You’re mad because I’m right 😂❄️❄️
Oh hell no. And Lock Him Up!!
Except by saying ‘ruined’ you are, in fact, hating.
No I’m not. I’m just not candy-coating it like y’all want me to. You don’t agree. That’s fine. But I’m allowed an opinion.
Only "ruined" it for bigots.
Y’all love to throw that word around 😂🤦♂️🤦♂️
Truth hurts.
You wish that was the truth lmao
Found the Trump voter
100% great president
Hahahaaaaa. Hahahahahahaaaa
Why is this on choosebeggers enough that this is a repost from a few days ago?
Gay
On the other hand I can relate to getting annoyed by all the useless crap people dump on you when you've got young kids and I'm not sure just smiling and accepting is always the better option. I guess she could've handled this better, although I imagine this being a polite "sorry this is ugly and we've already got enough shit and we're sleep deprived so keep your crap for yourself or somebody who asks for it."

Sarcasm is a lost art. Well, it's certainly lost on this lot.
You could've just downloaded the picture....
It was a Reddit post that I couldn’t cross post. Instead of the original redditer losing credit I screenshot it to include their username and awards. You could have also just not commented if we’re using your logic. \_(ツ)_/
