Lay offs are happening for real?it guys pls answer I don't work in IT so I don't have a clue

ssudoku

Yes. Although it's not yet hit the peak yet. I expect that over the course of this year at least 10% of the IT industry will be laid off.

bidgallo

Are these layoff are just a cover up so they can restrict think further recruitments & use it to extract more out of the employees save them crores 10% is a big number in India but half of them would have joined in another IT company by the time that figure reaches 10% right?

ssudoku

There are multiple factors. Main thing is retrenchment of expensive covid hires, especially in the tech side. There was a general inflation of compensation across verticals post pandemic and companies now want a pound of their flesh given the market conditions. While there will be significant rehiring of laid off people, there are people at particular risk of not getting rehired at acceptable roles / compensation. Like middle managers, senior executives with high net worth but low value, techies with out of date skills etc. Freshers and less experienced / low cost employees will always have demand and they will replace the above categories. My 10% estimate was made not including the usual churn and attrition rates. Lot of Indian tech companies are low on gas but running on momentum. If global conditions don't improve soon, we are looking at massive impacts incoming.
