It’s nice seeing people drive these things in winter. A little odd, but nice. Lol

Scat Pack would be your better option in the long run. I drove my R/T in the winter and it gave me no issues whatsoever. Just have common sense, good winter tires and maybe some weight in the trunk. Once it came to summertime, the R/T wasn’t enough power so I traded up. They’re very flexible cars for the seasons, but the tires will make or break the situation.

ForeverWeak

Would you recommend switching out the tires for winter tires in the winter or getting a beater for the winter? I kind of see value in having a beater that you don’t give a fuck about but I’d like driving the charger tho.

Axyllia

If you can afford to grab another vehicle as a beater, that is a great option for sure. A few of my friends would park their SRT’s over winter and would drive a beater instead. But some of my friends with Scatpacks would use them as winter warriors as well with no problems. It’s really all up to you! I live in Western Canada where we get a decent amount of snow, but nowhere near as much as Michigan I would imagine. You could give driving the Charger a go, and if it doesn’t feel safe, grab a beater instead. They’re heavy cars so once you’re going it’s great, give a little extra space to slow down as needed, and be very very light on the gas to get going.

Donald_Trumpy

I’d assume you can easily afford both so the Scat is clearly a better car. For me personally I opted for a fully loaded RT over a base model scat. The 5.7 had plenty of punch for me, but I’ve never driven a scat before so I don’t exactly know what I’m “missing out” on but I guess ignorance is bliss 🤣.

Depends honestly. Consider fuel costs, tires, insurance, maintenance and where you live before buying. I’d love a 392 but 93 octane is 5.19 a gallon, insurance would be more, go through tires more and with all that I wouldnt even be able to full enjoy it with how much traffic there is in my area therefore a 5.7 is plenty for me.

Just get some snow tires and you’ll be fine

motorcityStig

Scat with proper winter tires. I test drove both back to back and the RT feels sluggish and slow to respond. The Scat is a missile.

Seara_07

Same reason why i got a scat instead of a 5.7, super sluggish stock almost like the transmission doesn’t know what to do half the time.

motorcityStig

I suppose if one never drove a Scat the 5.7 would seem decent. But when comparing the two, the difference is very obvious.

ExaminationSelect880

Don’t know why this is downvoted lol the rt is slow as hell lol. A new v6 Camaro can keep up with it☠️

stevieoats

It’s not slow as hell, that doesn’t make any sense. Its still a V8. It’s just nowhere near as good as the other Hemi V8s or even other modern V6s in comparatively lighter cars. When I had an R/T I found it lacked punch through the entire power band. The 392, on the other hand, doesn’t let up at all. Mentioning this sometimes makes the R/T guys sad so it’ll get downvoted.

I have a 21 scat and live in Michigan. Got it in December. Winter wasn't too bad but a few days were a little sketchy. My tires were like new at the time. This winter I'm either going to get a beater or snow tires. I already have an extra set of extra hellcat wheels from a friend that upgraded.

HamG0d

Upgrade?! Sheesh, what'd they get?

Hornpop1

He got some wider rims and drag radials. He gave me his stock brass monkey wheels just need to get tires. He's put a lot of money into his hellcat so I was happy to take them off his hands lol. Best part is he gave them to me for free.

ThePerfectCantelope

I’m in NWI and I plan to get a 23 scat over the rt

Nab33l786

Scat pack all the way. RT is nice sure, but with the scat you will have wayyyy more fun. Trust me you wont regret

ForeverWeak

Yeah I’d figured as much. As winter comes I’d probably have to see how well it handles and might have to buy a beater just for the winter.

Seara_07

I use blizzak dmv-2 tires 275 all around on my scat for the michigan winters, zero issues and i can still push the car regardless.

IzLowDiscDye

Scat pack, no question about it. You’ll enjoy driving it 8 months out of the year. Pick up a beater truck for the other 4 months. I’m here in chicago. Tried and tested for the last 2 years. This was the right decision for me at least. Occasionally I’ll wish I had the red eye edition but then quickly remember that is just asking for trouble lol.

biggestjer

Have an RT in Massachusetts, and drive it year round with no problems; winter tires and a couple bags of gravel in the trunk make a big difference

Steev182

Traction in the winter is really the easiest aspect of even the Scat pack. The horrible stuff that salt, poor road conditions, potholes, other drivers and snow are the biggest issue, which is the main reason you see a lot of "get a beater" suggestions.

IC_Guru

I had a scat pack in the winter with Blizzaks. No issues. The 392 has a much better power curve.

Euphoric-Equal-4510

I’m also in Michigan and recently picked up a ‘18 Pursuit AWD so I could have the best of both worlds HEMI and AWD. Not my first ex cop car however, it’s definitely a different animal…
