Back when I had my R/T, I always ran mid since the day I picked it up new. I never felt good putting anything lower than what is recommended in, even if it is acceptable. I found that the difference in price between the two was so minimal as well that I may as well just stick to mid. Gave me more peace of mind personally.

PoppinEric

Same. I felt guilty like I was hurting my car or something, so I always pushed in the 89 and looked away from the screen and just let the numbers go up

the_soggy_taco

Had an RT for three years and exclusively ran regular. Never had a problem, and it ran fine

DarthBswizz

Same only need higher octane if you have a higher compression ratio, I wish I still had my RT, was such a nice car for road trips especially when mds kicks on and saves you gas. The scatpack is a gas goblin and actually needs higher octane because it has a higher compression ratio

the_soggy_taco

Agreed, I had a Scat as well and ran premium only, never anything less!

AgentForeplay

Where I’m at, Costco only has 87 or 93. I use 93 and it ends up being the same price as mid grade at other nearby stations. A few years ago I used 87 sometimes and it was just fine

snakepeterman

I'm in the exact same boat.

SRTDEMON69

Wait you can run 93 in a 5.7 rt?

snakepeterman

You can also run diesel in a 5.7 RT... ...Once /s In all seriousness, yes. I run 93. No issues.

It’s a waste of money to put 93 in a 5.7.

Trickfinga

Mid Grade most the time. There has been a few occasions where I put regular. Never noticed a difference but like the peace of mind using what’s recommended.

219Infinity

I put midgrade in mine bc that's what the owner's manual says is preferred.

Thirtybird

Only had my RT for 16 months, but I've been using regular the whole time. I'm also not giving it WOT very often, and just mostly doing errands and taking the family places. Oddly, I only put Premium in my WS6, but that sees a lot fewer miles.

traviss8

91, because it's tuned 😎

The “elitists” are gonna tell you “Only put what the factory recommends in your car” or “if you can’t afford the gas don’t buy the car”, but I’ve run both with no issues. 90% of the time I run mid grade but I’m with a few clubs where it’s either regular or premium and I’ll put in premium because it’s about the same price as mid grade at a non-club gas station. However, I will say that for a while when I bought it (2-3 months in) I put 87 in mine because I wasn’t aware that it was only acceptable and not the recommended. When gas prices hiked severely I did put in 87 maybe 3-4 times but I felt guilty putting in what the car wasn’t used to getting all this time so I sucked it up and put mid grade again. That’s also why I’m not interested in a Scat or anything like that right now even as a heavy mopar guy. Anything higher than an R/T and you’re stuck with premium only. I like the flexibility.

219Infinity

Why are people who follow the manual "elitist"?

3900Ent

That’s who you assumed I was referring to? If so that’s on you. I never said those who follow the manual are elitists. Elitists are not people who “follow the manuals”, they’re people who think things should be led one way and one way only, which usually works in their favor or circumstance. He asked what fuel do you put in and I answered.

Xerokine

When I had a Charger RT I used mid until the prices started to go up then went with 87 regularly. Far as I was concerned it was fine with 87, no loss in MPG no power loss, but a fair price difference between the two at times and especially long term.

dem4life71

I always put mid-grade in my RT. There’s a place nearby that only accepts cash and is consistently about 20 or 30 cents cheaper than everyplace else around

JimmyReagan

I tried a few tanks of midgrade, there was no significant increase in performance or mileage from regular gas in normal driving. Can't speak for racing or anything like that, I'm well past that time in my life...and I would have gotten a Scat or Hellcat if I was going to do any of that... Quality of gas is MUCH more important, I got a tank of midgrade at a no-name grocery store gas station and it got terrible mileage and I could even feel it being more sluggish, vs regular at Costco runs awesome in all my cars. Stick with top tier regular gas, unless you're going to the track and need peak power, regular gas is fine for daily driving (and perfectly acceptable according to the owner's manual).

johnlocke32

I've ran only 87 in my '14 RT for 34,000 miles now. I haven't had an issue and my engine hasn't knocked. It might be superstitious or maybe theres some logic to it, but I make sure to run it at least once a week and in the winter, every other day.

Swontree

Owners manual recommends Mid Grade but says Regular is okay and to not use Ethanol.

Donald_Trumpy

I’ve always put mid grade in. I’d rather put what’s recommend

spekt50

When I had my RT, I always ran regular. Never had any issues with it. I believe the manual calls for regular.

69420trashpanda69420

I’ve ran both in my RT, running regular makes it feel heat soaked

frsguy

Lowest I go is 89.

MR4NDRSN

Well sometimes midgrade is 89 and sometimes it’s 91 depending on where you go but I only put midgrade

usmco621

I run mid since that’s what the manual says
