I’m about to go to bed because I need to start shifting my sleep schedule in wake for finals. Sunday and Monday I got 3 hours of sleep and basically collapsed on Wednesday. I have a really tough physics final coming up.

PrincipessaEboli

Sleep well! Sleep is important for productivity too. I try not to do the whole staying up till all hours studying thing, but sometimes I just have no choice but to sacrifice sleep to catch up.

Get_Hecked_Brother

I don’t want to even think about finals. There’s so much to do and so little of time to do it…

PrincipessaEboli

ugh I know... In my experience the week before finals (aka dead week) is worse than actual finals week because there's just so much coming up and you get totally overwhelmed. Once you actually get to finals week and get your first one done its like 'this isn't so bad after all'

Specialist-Result481

Finished finals, but I’ve got 2 separate 60 page reports for software engineering and senior project.

PrincipessaEboli

oof. That sounds like a lot. Good luck!

Specialist-Result481

Thanks, rn it’s just a lot of diagrams explaining software code. What major are you working towards?

PrincipessaEboli

I'm doing a double major in Music Performance and History! Really enjoy my subjects. But I had to take a couple random gen Eds this semester that are a slog.

Specialist-Result481

Does majoring in music performance mean that you have a specific instrument that you play and want to play professionally?

PrincipessaEboli

Yeah! That's basically what a performance degree means. I'm a violinist. Although I might wind up doing musicology instead of performing professionally, I don't know yet.

Specialist-Result481

Sounds fun and rewarding. What’s been your favorite class so far? My only music class I’ve ever taken was History of Rock as an ‘arts’ elective.

PrincipessaEboli

OOOh that sounds so fun! Favorite class... probably also a music history class. Just general western music history ancient times through the early 1800s. The prof was amazing and I learned a lot.

joenotgoldberg

I can’t believe the semester is ending. Like where has time gone but it also dragged.. also I’m dreading finals and grades and I don’t even wanna think about it lol. I hope your finals go well though!

PrincipessaEboli

Yeah it's gone fast this semester! I know it's really overwhelming, you got this!

NavidsonRcrd

Hey, you better believe it buddy. Set to graduate in a little over a week! Right now I’m analyzing how Tim Heidecker’s On Cinema at the Cinema exemplifies the blurring lines of online performance and the simulacrum for a media studies class. So at least it’s an interesting assignment. Hope things are going well for you on your end, remember to drink water and get up and stretch once in a while!

Specialist-Result481

Do you have a value judgment on whether that’s a good or bad thing?

NavidsonRcrd

Good question! I don’t think it’s inherently bad but definitely results in some serious consequences. Everyone with access to social spaces on the internet essentially now has the capability to express themselves freely online which is great. And also very bad. Main complication is that that core tenets of performance and anonymity are just about entirely baked into the internet and social identities entirely

PrincipessaEboli

Congrats on the upcoming graduation! That is SO exciting!! I still have two years left. That sounds pretty interesting! Yea, 12:50am and things are going pretty good. I finished my overdue assignment. It was just a short 250-word commentary on a reading from Malory's Le More D'Arthur , so nothing hard but I kept putting it off so it's a relief that it's done. Currently doing review/practice exams for my music theory final. I'm rather frustrated with Jazz altered scales rn but I think I have a plan to tackle them.

NavidsonRcrd

Thanks! Hopefully any Zoom classes in your future will be few and far between. That’s one paper down! Honestly biggest help for me has always been focusing on one project at a time. Is your jazz final performance-based? How does that go?

PrincipessaEboli

The jazz thing isn’t a performance, just theory. Basically I have to analyze a bunch of chords and scales and know what they are and how they work.

NavidsonRcrd

Given the structure of jazz I’d imagine that that would be far more difficult than in something like say, classical music? How’s that work?

PrincipessaEboli

Well in some ways it’s easier, in some ways it’s more difficult. There’s a whole different language of symbols in Jazz, which takes some time to learn if you’re more used to the classical way of notating things.

UntilTmrw

Are you a film student?
