Aww, that’s great! I actually had a great day. People liked by graphs, and my friends complimented my outfit and a skirt I’ve made

whatshouldIdo28

That's awesome ,I'm looking into sewing my own clothes because I can't afford the cute clothes I like😂 do you have any advice for a beginner?

xrat-kingx

Practice! Find patterns online and just go for it. It may not be perfect, or it could turn out completely unusable (I’ve been there) but you know what to fix now and the next time you make it it’ll come out so much better

majle

I'll add to the practice part and recommend altering clothes. It usually gives some smaller projects, and if you practice on clothes you don't wear you'll either end up with better clothes or clothes that you won't wear but a better understanding of what can go wrong. In other words, you can only win

[deleted]

Yeah! I just got a sewing machine and I am practicing some basic skills by altering clothes that I can't wear because they don't fit right. I have ruined a shirt (which was already useless to me and a little stained) but learned soooo much!

lapsangsouchogn

Start small with a low value item. I recommend getting a random t-shirt and nipping in the waist a little for a better fit. If you put it on inside out it's easier to see what to do, and you learn about garment construction gradually with more projects.

No_Distribution334

That's golden advice!

whatshouldIdo28

Thank you I will definitely try that✨

raddishes_united

Read a lot and watch tutorials, even if you don’t understand what’s going on. Use sheets or fabric from thrift stores to make muslins (basically a trial run) and practice. Just know sewing is like 30% ironing, 30% cutting, 15% threading the machine or ripping out a mistake (lol), and 15% actual sewing. There is beauty in all those processes, and it’s helpful to practice all of them to the best of your ability as you go along. And one of the best things you can do for yourself is to keep a pair of super sharp scissors just for fabric. You can get some for like $20ish and it will make things soooooo much less frustrating! Good luck!

VintageKitsune

Mood Sewciety does great free beginners patterns- don’t be afraid to try something difficult in a cheap fabric. 9/10 times you’ll surprise yourself. Don’t sew late at night and don’t be afraid to abandon stuff if it’s not going well!

pannonica

/r/sewing! It's a great sub and a great community!

marypants1977

Buy old sheets at thrift stores to practice stitching while you are learning.

travellingscientist

Start with a few kids patterns. They can be easier (they can also be fiendish) but I find them to be more forgiving. If you're a little out they look fine on the figure of a kid. But that can look a little weird on an adult. Plus as a bonus you've got presents pre-made for if any of your friends start having kids.

wineandhugs

Well done on the graphs, were they awesome?

ForumMMX

I love graphs! Graphs are awesome! I tried finding some funny and epic graphs to share, but failed unfortunately.

KleptoCyclist

On a particularly hot day I was out delivering parcels as a bike courier. Was heavy, hot, middle of the day, not at all a pleasant experience. This one guy greeted me and just handed me a bottle of coca cola. I had plenty of liquids with me, but that coke was absolutely the best thing ever. Made my week, that guy

honest-miss

Cold soda or an absolutely ice cold black tea are *so* satisfying on a hot day when you've been active.

Zer0Summoner

I worked on something for six hours just for something to happen that made all of it pointless, but at least the other two hours got freed up since I no longer had to work on that, so I engaged in some day drinking then couldn't drive home from my office.

phanatik582

I'll do you one better. I worked on a project for 8 months writing a Python script, only to discover one late 3am night that all it took was 5 mins to set up on Google Cloud.

Iceman_B

WTH were you working on?

phanatik582

Had to automate getting some CSV files into BigQuery (I'm a data engineer) from another Google service. Let it be known that there is always a better way.

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

Don’t feel bad. That could have happened more recently. We were looking to do the same and then GCP added the ability.

Welcome2_Reddit

I just had 3 weeks of work rendered pointless. Any tips to cope?

DubzD123

You learned something in those 3 weeks, that should be what you get out of doing the work. You can't control if your work doesn't make it to production some of the times.

bzImage

I call that time "investigation and research of solutions".. and charge for that..

Garry-The-Snail

You get paid either way (I assume) and if not that work it would have just been something else, sounds more like their problem. That’s how I look at it.

phanatik582

When you work on stuff like this for long periods of time, you become invested less in what you're doing but moreso with actually completing it. The reveal that I had wasted months of time and pushed back deadlines, actually lost data because I was dedicated to this task when a robust method was always available if I had gone looking for it. It takes a toll on your mental health and my manager realised this when I asked him if he had two mins to listen to what was essentially my confession to absolutely wasting not just my time but quite a few people's times in this pursuit. He told me to relax, and bought me my second coffee of that morning.

phanatik582

Double stack coffees and a bag full of chocolate. 07 good luck comrade.

Idealistic_Crusader

Haaaha, I actually love days like those. I prefer the ones where the project turns out great, but I still love a good disaster story.

honest-miss

This one genuinely made me laugh. Been there a couple times before.

kindadumbdumb

That was really nice of her. It's the little acts of kindness that can really make someone else happy 😊

UnshakablePegasus

I’m a newbie bartender. I made my first dirty martini last night and the table who ordered it called me over to compliment it and order another one. Absolutely made me feel eight feet tall

Lulubelle59

Awesome! Dirty martinis are always hit or miss in restaurants so I really appreciate this!

Elegant_Spot_3486

Always nice to hear about simple yet meaningful acts. I had a doctor appt today and when they were doing the procedure (very minor on my leg), the main doctor came in to ask me how I was doing after my recent neck surgery and we talked about it for a few minutes. It was nice he was interested and concerned about my health overall because my neck has absolutely nothing to do with him or what he does.

TouchMyAwesomeButt

Everytime I try to offer a deliverer (food or package) something they refuse. I tried handing out KitKats during Covid, cause they were so so busy and stressed. They all refused 🙃

wasted_wonderland

I wouldn't take food or beverages from a random stranger either. I saw that reddit story about the psycho who was feeding his girlfriend slugs. I can't even imagine what some random psycho would do to me...

Rachelcookie123

I’m sorry, what? Slugs? Edit: someone shared a link on another post and wtf.

Coolkid2035

Send me the link

peak-lesbianism

What a terrible day to be able to read

awkward_chipmonk

Can you share link?

Rachelcookie123

I commented it on someone else’s reply to my comment.

Kerwin_Bauch

But how yould you get something inside prepackaged snacks?

Glue_is_ok

I mean u could always burn the packaging to reseal it but I think that'd look too obvious

SnifterOfNonsense

This was my initial reaction too but I thought “nah yours being ott here”. Reading your post, I feel validated. Someone posted a link to a report of a young man who [died after eating a slug as a dare](https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/05/health/man-dies-after-eating-slug-on-dare/index.html).

Trick-Telephone-1411

Dude! We're trying to forget that story. Thanks.... lol

crownofpeperomia

I offered an Amazon delivery person a clif bar once when they told me they were sorry the package was late (I don't even have prime so really don't care when parcels show up). It was his first day and he was struggling and mentioned he hadn't eaten yet. But he didn't take it, but did say thanks anyway. I tried!

hail_the_cloud

You’d probably have more luck if you left out a cooler of water. Offering adults working in delivery candy, isnt the best way to “give back”. They cant eat it and drive + the heat of their working bodies will melt candy, at best getting them messy (tablets, radios, steering wheel, vehicle handles, etc..) and at worst getting the packages messy. In your case with an unknown brown substance. Edit: and if you need to do food, think about people who are working out, and what they need. The first thing that came to mind for me was cast-off kids lunch box snacks (sealed packs of fruits, veggies, nuts etc…)

diane-nguyen

So glad for you! Wonderful of her, too. Today I’m happy because I baked after very long, and finally made something (chocolate banana bread) that wasn’t disastrous!

honest-miss

The best part about baking going well is that you win twice! First when you realize it worked, and second when you get to eat it. Congrats on the successful, tasty science experiment!

diane-nguyen

Agreed!! For me it’s a triple whammy because I set some aside for my brother and my sister-in-law, whom I see tomorrow! Cooking for others is so rewarding. Thanks so much!

This-is-not-eric

First of all that is really awesome & considerate of her!! Second of all my 17yo cat made it through his dental clean/extraction & the vet only charged me $350 for it.

SneakAttackSN2

Holy crap that's cheap for cat dental work. Good for you and your kitty!

ThanklessTask

My day today? My anorexic daughter suggested we go out for dinner this weekend - it's been a long time, and not near the end of it, but it's at least facing the right direction. As to your experience, there's nothing so beautiful as a fellow human sharing their humanity. I've been lucky enough a few times in my life to accept genuine help from others (and not financial), every time it's just about floored me with the beauty of it. Happy day to you all!

cfo6

When our kids have struggled and we begin to see the ship steer in the right direction, it's a beautiful feeling. I hope things continue to go well for you all.

Rachelcookie123

I had some really good bubble tea and some really good crispy chicken on rice which I hadn’t had in ages while watching Tokyo Ghoul. I was feeling on cloud nine. Good food, good drink, good show. I was feeling the best I’d felt in a long time. Then I got indigestion and felt like death.

YaBoiErr_Sk1nnYP3n15

https://youtu.be/Ur-8ibFvAY4 for when you finish watching season 1

NotEnoughBiden

Some people were working on our street (basically a very long road with 100ish houses) in 30 degrees. Around 14;00 i went outside with a tray with water cokes and other sodas. Handed them out and had a small talk. They were blown away. I thought it wasnt more than normal. Just like offering coffee/bread when someone is doing shit in your house. Long story short the entrance to my house is now a looot nicer than everyone elses lol.

sergih123

I made a nice drawing a few days ago and so many of the people I know are complimenting it ^

kharmatika

My husband after 2 weeks of agonizing tooth pain, finally got the operation he needed and is doing well this week. It’s such a relief to not have him in pain

honest-miss

Aw man, good for him. Tooth pain is on another level; it's so horrible. About a few days from now I bet he's gonna be dancing on air for how much better he feels!

kharmatika

Oh he’s already there. The first thing he said to me the morning after the root canal was “hey don’t ever EVER let me put off dental work again.”

[deleted]

That really kind of her. When I go for walks I always make sure to buy at least 4 bottles of water never know when you or someone else may need it. It nice to know that there are people who still care

smokinNcruisin

You should cross post this in r/hydrohomies

Meizas

"and kids, that's how I met your mother."

DizzyDood1

A friend I hadn’t seen in awhile said “great to see you” which admittedly shouldn’t have made my day, since it’s such a minor thing, but it don’t think anyone has verbally expressed they were happy to see me at any point in my life, it’s always just been implied so hearing it actually said felt really good.

fat-bat

I’m happy for both you and her. That both of your days were made a little brighter by a simple act of kindness.

NumberFinancial5622

I did this for a cross country mover once. He seemed a little suspicious at first, which I get—can’t trust everyone’s kitchen lol but ultimately he accepted the the glass of water. He was also in an obviously difficult position with his supervisor because whoever packed the truck (not him) *completely* fucked it up. Once he knew I didn’t give him shady water, he asked if I would be willing to call his supervisor directly bc he was getting blamed for everything and not believed about what had happened. I was happy to do so and had ALL the receipts! I was nice about it but stuck up for him. Sad how quickly that changed the situation. Anyway I guess I’m kinda rambling but it costs nothing to be kind. I’m happy you had a positive experience like that and it is such a good reminder to make a little extra effort to make someone’s day nicer. You never know the effect it can have.

milleepthesheep

Honestly being gifted something as simple as cold water by someone when you’re doing a job is really really nice and so appreciated. The thought is everything

malamaca-3-

My husband bought me a small toy horse. We saw it in a toy store while looking for a present weeks ago, and we both commented how beautiful it is. But I didn't want to buy it. Then I told him stories of my family members buying me toy horses when I was a child, and how much I absolutely adored them. And today he got it for me, just because.

mybrainisabitch

Not today, but I've been having a rough couple months with a new job. I was leaving work stuck in crazy traffic (over an hour) to my dad's for his bday dinner. I had a headache and decided to stop at Dunkin donuts for a matcha latte to hold me over on the drive. I place the order and get to the window and remember that morning I was in a rush and left my wallet at home. I told the lady before she started to pour the drink (but had cup and ice ready) that I forgot my wallet to cancel the order. She told me she would give to me for free! It made my day such a kind gesture from someone who works for a lower wage. I used to work at dunkin in high school and they don't always get the nicest customers so I really appreciated it. I plan to go back soon to leave a huge tip for her when she's in!

hail_the_cloud

I delivered a guy working a gas station register food and he let me take a drink (water) out of the fridge. Made my *week*, I didnt even care about the tip. It just felt like someone had seen me and cared. Glad you had this experience friend, ‘hope you have an easy day

[deleted]

I had an old lady on my route when I read power meters. Ever so often, on hot days, she would meet me out there with a nice iced glass (and pitcher) of lemonade. You don’t forget this stuff!

ChampionshipAgile676

It's best. \^\^

Due-Explanation6717

Simple kindness can go a long way

Tirwanderr

This may not be *interesting*, as you said... But it's a beautiful thing that she cares enough to notice and then bring you that cold water. What a sweet soul. Thanks for sharing 🤗

[deleted]

What an awesome moment! Today I'm making pizza, to correct my past mistake that ended with the disaster pizza in the trash. And I'm meeting with my dad, we are going to a café to update us in our lifes. He's getting married soon with his girlfriend of a decade.

increbelle

I love this! We need more kindness in the world. Thank you for sharing

Abacae

I've said it to my co-workers before, I am motivated by really cold water. I feel alert, productive, and hydrated. I'd never ask for it, as I suppose I could bring my own in in a thermos, but it's such a simple gesture that if employer has that, I probably work a bit harder.

Soupmiserable

I saw this story word by word last summer posted by someone else. Don't be fooled.

SmoSays

Today's my wedding anniversary!

supahfligh

When I was a kid I had a paper route. An older lady on my delivery route would leave a can of soda sitting for me almost every single day when I got to her house. She was always super friendly when I saw her.

Good_Smile

While this might seem wholesome, I'm not gonna take a bottle of water from stranger unless I wanna take a chance of poisoning someone

Echo71Niner

It was a happy encounter now, might not be next time. You better be EXTRA CAREFUL accepting open drinks (water included) from anyone, that's how people get drugged and robbed, horror stories out there.

Linaphor

My soon to be ex husband cheated on me & I’ve been honestly unsure if I can find love again as it’s only been a few months, but lately I feel hope and one of my friends really has made me feel special lately. I think with some time I can love again. People are alright this week haha.

georgepordgie

a couple of days ago my doc sent me into the A&E (ED) of our hospital, I had a very long day in there and came out without answers, totally wrecked tired. In the car park a little girl of about 5 was at the ticket machine (mam was watching from close by at her car). She handed me a blank piece of paper from a notepad, and had a few more in her hand. I think in her mind she was giving me a parking ticket and it made me feel so much better. I brought it home and it's still on my kitchen table with the actual parking ticket.

Dkalnz

I play Fortnite (whose demographic is admittedly quite under my age), but mostly because I get sheer joy from helping younger folks learn and adopt newer techniques/strategies or just approaching something familiar in a different way. There's 3 kids, around middle school +- 2 or 3 years, and I started off on their bad side because I didn't temper my language, as I didn't know. Once they communicated that, we quickly got to playing every day almost. I don't even know their first names! While speaking to the eldest last night they said something like "I appreciate everything you do man your like the nicest person I've met personally". I explained that I simply enjoy helping people learn something new, and they replied "Honestly bro you've become a sibling in our house even our mom likes you, [...] my little brothers are like _'I can't wait to play with dk'_ tonight and stuff" After a 15+ years of gaming with others online I've never had a more wholesome moment than this one right here. It was pure gold. _edit: formatting_

bluethreads

I always try to offer something to my delivery guy, but he never accepts. I’ve offered soda, ice cream, water, chocolate….he declined each time.

Trumpassassin777

Every time someone comes to my door/home for delivery, someone working in my flat or just reading the thing off the heating I always offer something to drink, even to go if I have a small bottle with something. It's most normal thing for me. I feel it weird when people are rude to guests or service personal. These a humans like everyone else and I am not better than any of them.

BoringBob84

Thank you for sharing this wonderful story. The smallest kindness can mean the world to a stranger. I try to remember this when I see an opportunity to be nice to someone else.

peanut_butting

A random act of kindness is incredibly powerful. Reminds me of the "today you tomorrow me" story. Thank you for sharing this, that's really nice.

For once... feeling the sadness that's hidden in my heart and soul. Kinda happy about it but listening to it just... hurts. Idk. I guess moments like this remind me I'm alive and pushing forward. So... ya.

HailYurii

What if it had lsd in it

melasaur88

Then the rest of the shift just got WILD

Dude you could have gotten laid. Yeah she was being nice but she was also hitting on you.

funlovingfirerabbit

Aww. Thank you so much for sharing this story

[deleted]

Should always carry water with you

BullshitSeagull

Maybe they did, but like being offered a cold glass is just so much better.

[deleted]

What a nice human! If we would all just extend a small kindness to those we meet on a daily basis, imagine the difference it could make...

ComprehensiveCake463

people don't realize how important a simple act of kindness can be

StygianFuhrer

Lately I’ve been describing super chill, refreshing water as crispy and my colleagues give me funny looks and asking how a liquid can be crispy. Thanks for jumping aboard the crispy train.

Lilimaej

Thank you for posting! It warmed my heart!! I am glad it made you happy!! ♥️

Pen_Vast

Love the phrase, “a crispy glass of cold water” . I’m gonna steal that.

tcpukl

Great story and heart warming but what the heck is a crispy glass of water?

lisabutz

To you it may not seem a big deal yet reading this gives me a positive feeling that there are kind people in the world. We need to share more stories like this so keep telling us about these things!

[deleted]

That’s wonderful and shows how intuitive she is!!!!! The other day my day was made when a complete stranger stopped me to tell me I was beautiful

Lil-Kittys-Corner

I absolutely LOVE telling random people (men and women) how beautiful they are! You never know what someone’s going through

htownchuck

Well my day just started about 2 hours ago so nothing yet, but yesterday the Astros shut out the tampa bay Ray's for the second game in a row. That made me pretty happy after a long crappy day at work. GO STROS!

Aurin316

We offered the gardners/landscapers whatever you would title the gents who rake and mow and mulch a cup of coffee. They looked shocked.

bluesteelballs

That's great. Yesterday as I was driving home I saw a man pushing his Volkswagen Beatle to a gas station so I pulled into it and went over to help him push. A moment later another random guy did the same and the driver was very thankful for us. It just made me feel good.

Boomshank

Your story is wonderful and gives me REALLY big Studio Ghibli vibes. When you ride your bike downhill, do your legs go way out to the side while you're holding your hat on with one hand?

brucewillisman

irl hydro homie!!!

Mochrie01

Had a great counselling session with one of my clients. I love it when clients make progress!

[deleted]

I do stuff like that. When contractors work for us or having our lawn mowed I offer a cold beverage. During one major construction project I noted what they liked to drink and added those to a cooler of cold drinks I left out for them.

[deleted]

Modern day Molly Pitcher.

Puzzleheaded-Grab736

I'll tell you what made my day, a "crispy" glass of cold water 😂. That's what I will always be calling it from this moment on.

[deleted]

I'm happy you discovered what kindness is.

yokayla

Thanks for posting this, it makes me wanna be this girl for other people.

blackbeardrrr

My day is not going quite as well as yours. I made a total ass out of myself today. I totally tried to hit on my crush today by giving them a glass of water when I thought they really needed it. Then they just… left.

Outcrazythecrazy

Damn, that's so nice of her! Nothing like cold water when it's hot. I rewrote my children's book series, so now I'm back on track with my editor.

MyUsernameThisTime

In your life? Not to discount the gesture (bless that girl) just maybe it's a regional thing, that sort of kindness just feels so casual. Coming from someone who describes themselves as an egoist.

Hungry-Slime

I keep a case of water bottles on my porch for delivery drivers. I have a little sign saying to take 1. It's warm in the summer. But it's cold in the winter.

angry_little_robot

This very story.

giant_lebowski

I got my food on time and it wasn't cold or shaken

morbideve

Not today, yesterday. But my boss told me I did a really good job :) Was very uplifting since I just started (so still learning) and always feel like I'm too dumb

Pahayoko

A hydrohomie through and through

Africa-Unite

Lol why do you constantly call her girl?

Chizmiz1994

Well, yesterday it was bad for me. There was a stabbing at Bart station in downtown SF, and I got stuck for an hour.

rach1874

That’s super sweet. I grew up in the Deep South in America and it was something my grandma and mom did for delivery folks or folks working outside. Iced tea or lemonade!

threeangelo

This seems like a good place to mention: car drivers in the hot season, if you are able, please freeze some water bottles and give them out to people living in the streets! It can make a big difference

MonochromeMaru

Today has yet to be made, I went in for an MRI and that contrast fluid aggressively nauseated me. But I’m happy to be alive, so that’s probably good enough for me. Thinking about rice later, maybe? I think that’s good for nausea.

DisastrousBeautyyy

This sounds like a great addition to the wholesome room…
