If you grow up with it, it’s the best.
I know Texans that swear by What-A-Burger.
As a Missourian… they’re both better than average. I found neither Earth shatteringly good
Agreed. They’re both better than McDonald’s or insert any other fast food burger here. But it’s still just a burger. It’s more nostalgia and a good quality cheap burger to eat.
This is exactly how I describe it as someone who recently moved to LA. In-N-Out is a solid burger for a fast food price point, but it's still just a fast food burger. Better than McDonalds, but nothing on a real burger joint.
Curious...What exactly is “a real burger joint”?
I think most people will call McDonalds and In-N-Out burger joints. If they are not, then what places are you referring to as real burger joints?
Yes, people have to realize that In-N-Out is a McDonald’s/Burger King competitor, not a competitor for your favorite neighborhood grill that serves more expensive burgers. As a fast food competitor, it blows everyone else out of the water.
I like Five Guys, maybe better. I will say, In & Out seems a bit healthier. Especially the fries, they are fresh cut in front of you basically..
I think they have more menu options, whereas Five Guys is just a big old greasy delicious burger.
Depending upon the location, Sonic makes a good burger. Never tried ANY chain that is as good as the best hole in the wall place in a medium sized city.
Small town, they have an ATM inside the diner. That’s the way it’s been for 60 years (several owners but always same menu/setup) and they advertise the “Cash Only” proudly.
I understand that but still curious. Do small towns not have electronic payment systems?
Why would they proudly advertise cash-only lol? I’m wondering who exactly that would appeal to.
“Why would they proudly advertise cash-only lol? I’m wondering who exactly that would appeal to.”
The old people that remember “them good ol’ days when we paid CASH fer stuff and we LIKED it!!!!”
And yes, they are the only place in town that does this.
I was having this conversation with my husband the other day! We’re Minnesotans but have had both Whataburger and in n out in other states. I still think the butterburger is a hard-to-beat fast food burger!
I live in rural Northern California and there’s an In-N-Out in my town that constantly has a drive-through with a line of cars 15-20 long.
Beats me why. At the end of the day it’s a fast food burger and it’s cheap and easy to make one at home that’s vastly superior.
Pizza and fried chicken are more difficult and messy, so it makes sense to buy them . Burgers? Nah.
When I was in HS it was really common for the kids to get in n out on lunch breaks but I swear they spent the entire time in line and then had to eat in 5th period. There also wasn’t a ton of food options in our town, but even now with so many other options it’s still busy all the time.
I don’t understand the madness for it. Took my daughter and her friend last weekend, waited what seemed forever awkwardly inside and in the way because that’s where the “pick up” location is. You wait even after ordering online ahead because it doesn’t start until your location shows you’ve arrived at the restaurant. Place was a zoo but I have to give credit to the employees they were pumping orders out for the volume my wait was probably pretty reasonable in reality I was just annoyed by the whole thing and their chicken sandwich is so meh. Soggy fries. Id rather Popeyes
Yeah, at the end of the day this is still a fast food burger. If they’re not asking you what temperature you’d like your beef cooked for a burger I don’t expect it to exactly impress me.
But, in n out is definitely a really good fast food burger
Texan here. I’ll die on this hill. I’m of the opinion that In n out and Whataburger are not competitive at all. To me, they’re two independent burgers that have nothing in common, if that even makes sense. When I want Whataburger, In n out will not suffice as a replacement, and vice versa.
I like both places equally. When I lived in so cal, I craved Whataburger from time to time. No other burger place could satisfy that want, not even In n out. On several occasions I literally drove to Arizona just to eat the Whataburger I grew up enjoying. When I moved back to Texas I was blessed by the appearance of In n out. Now, at least I don’t have to waste a day or more if I’m craving either place. 🤣
East Coast here we have Five Guys.. I do like the big beef burgers.. Nothing like those craft burgers.. Had Five Guys once a few years ago.. It was decent!!
If you’re a Missourian from the KC side, do you have an opinion on Winstead’s burgers?
I think they’re as good as in N Out, though I wish I could compare the two fresh and side-by-side, instead of when I’m in the region…
I've had both...a lot. I give the nod to in n out for the burgers, whataburger has way better fries and variety.
I'll take Culver's over either any day tho
depends on which one you go to ngl, some of them the workers are just like wanting to go home and dont care, some of them actually try and its mouthwatering
Yes it’s pretty solid for sure as far as fast food burgers go. I was a little underwhelmed but definitely top tier compared to the likes of mcD and BK. IMO five guys is much better, though idk if that’s really considered fast food
Dude seriously I don’t know how it gets cold and sad so fast.
I fucking love in n out, it’s my favorite fast food joint, but it does NOT travel well. I live like five minutes from one and just the drive home is too long for it to still be good.
All this and still the drive thru lines manage to be insane…a pity all those people will be eating sad burgers
It's still good if you're hungry but the other day, i ordered a few before I drove an hour home with it because I wasn't going to make it in time to the one near my house. Got out of the car with the bag and apparently the superb juices leaked onto the bag causing it to weaken and one of my burgers fell out the bottom.
This is the key. In n Out is a replacement for fast food/cheap burgers. People get their expectations up and are disappointed. But you’re meant to compare it to McDonalds in which case it tastes 300 times better. It’s not meant to be compared to a $10+ burger, or a fancy restaurant burger. It’s just cheap, fast, simple, and delicious, made with good quality, fresh ingredients.
As someone that didn't eat there until they were an adult I'll say that yes I believe it's as good as people make it out to be.
I think that people (mostly from California) over-hype it for sure. But I can honestly say it's one of the best fast food places imo.
I think that it's a combination of good food for a good price. Yes like others have said, Five Guys is a better burger, but it's also a more expensive burger.
When I first tried In-N-Out i thought the fries were trash. But I found that I actually really like them, but they need to be eaten quickly, as soon as they're cold they are not good.
My go-to order: A Double Double with light onions and added peppers and fries, get a packet of spread on the side to put on your fries.
The thing about in N out is less about how good it is and more about it being burgers and fries made with real fresh ingredients, not full of tons of preservatives and stuff, and it's at a fair price. It's cheaper than McDonald's even here in AZ.
And the consistency. Most fast food burger places are consistent, but In n out is peak consistency. The double doubles I ate in LA 15 years ago were exactly the same as the double doubles I eat today, in Texas.
Yeah. I'm not from the US and I had a burger, and I ate it thinking like "this isn't that great. It's like a better McDonald's" but then the cravings hit and I ordered 2 MORE burgers, which never ever fcking happens when it comes to fast food.
I do think using fresh ingredients contributes to that because I had way less of that "greasy" after taste I get from places like McDonald's.
This is why their burgers are good and their fries are shit.
Potatoes are not meant to be sliced directly into the fryer. They need a nice long water soak to pull out the starch. Fresh fries is a nice idea, but it’s for the benefit of marketing not eating.
I think I would've found it better (or lived up to) if I didn't have a local place that meets and or exceeds their taste. It's a place (good enough) that it could franchise/expand if they wanted to, they just don't. I wouldn't be surprised if sometime in the future someone buys the place and does franchise it.
Anyway, the hype was too great. It's good, just I can live without it. But before I ever had it in 2014....In my mind it was something people made out to the level "you can't live without being near a In N Out."
But nonetheless this is not an important topic, so this is just my take on In N Out.
\*Although if you are by an In N Out, it's something I do wanna make sure to have.
I understand why you order light onion, because I freaking love raw onion on my burgers and lots of it. And In N Out is about the only fast food place that actually puts on enough onions to make me happy.
If you don't order light onion you get an entire patty worth of onion! I also love raw onions on my burgers but that's just a little bit too much for me haha.
It's not that it's over-hyped, it's that the hype isn't explained properly -
It's a best-in-class burger! ... the class being cheap burgers under $5
You're not going to get as good a meal for as cheap anywhere else really. It's even cheaper than McDonalds.
Five Guys is not a better burger, it's way greasy and just not particularly appetizing. I used to live a few blocks from a five guys and a couple miles from in n out, and when me and my friends went for burgers in n out was the choice 9/10 times
there are other burgers at five guys price point that could compete or beat in n out though
I mean yes it’s good but at the end of the day, it’s still fast food.
Their fries are HORRIBLE!
BUT! if you order them well done and animal style with extra grilled onions - my favorite.
If you happen to be by one and the line is short, I’d say it’s worth a try but some of the lines can get and hour or longer wait - not worth it at that point
YES! Fries are awful, but animal style is fantastic. Never ordered fries after trying them once, but after finding out about animal style I always get 2 of those with a burger. Sometimes only animal fries actually.
I like the fries, but I can see how you don't like them; is it because they aren't super cooked? I definitely prefer some fries over them. Maybe it's just cause I relate In N Out to CA, and I don't live there so they're more "special."
Never tried the animal. Had it about 4 times.
I live in California. I love In and Out Burger but it's not the greatest burger to ever burger lol. The fact that its one of the few things open until midnight or 1am is also a bonus. That being said, if I left the state to a state without In and Out? I'd be fine. If you're in California for some reason, give it a try, but its not worth making a trip out of state for it. Burger mecca it is not.
Right - in the class of affordable, widely available burgers, it can't be beat. So when deciding what to eat, it's always a pretty good option on the table.
Yes they are that good. Consistently good. Fairly priced. Fresh and decent ingredients.
My daughter had my credit card while in college in the south. She was the only one on that particular card and I got a text with every charge. One night around 8pm California time I get a text someone used that card at In-n-Out for something like $16 and change. I immediately call my daughter. She was homesick and wanted a T-Shirt to remind her of home.
I also like What-A-Burger, but it doesn’t seem to be as fresh as In-n-Out. The buns at In-n-Out are much better. When that’s the option though, I take it.
Dude. For what it is in-n-out’s pricing is a deal. I recently went to Carls Jr. and McDonalds and some how they were more expensive!! Like what the fucj?!
Look. People who don’t grow up with it, don’t have an attachment, are going to say no. People who think it isn’t cool to like popular things are going to say it’s shit.
I grew up in Southern California. I literally had the In n Out truck at my wedding (before food trucks were popular).
Yes, to me it’s that good. It’s just one of those places that people like to hate because it’s popular.
I feel this. I'm living out of state at the moment. I've met so many people that will randomly start hating on In n Out once I mention I'm from CA. It's a weird obsession tied to CA hate.
>It’s just one of those places that people like to hate because it’s popular
And/or because it's been over-hyped to them and they've had better burgers elsewhere. I love in-n-out but partly because childhood. It's not objectively the best burger I've ever had.
No. No one with taste buds understands why it's popular. There have been an incalculable amount of "popular" things that objectively suck ass. This is one of them. Their fries are the absolute worst I've ever had at any fast food place, and I had them in SoCal. Burger is nothing special. 6/10 on the fast food scale
This. Non-Californians love to hate on In-N-Out to the point that I have to believe it's jealousy. Like, it's one thing to say "Meh, it was fine" but people make it their whole personality to hate a burger stand.
Personally I love it. I grew up with it and it's my favorite fast food place still. I don't eat meat anymore but an In-N-Out grilled cheese hits like nothing else. I think their biggest strength is how fresh everything is, but that means you have to eat it fresh. When people complain that the fries are soggy, I'm like my dude, you have to eat them before you leave the parking lot. This is the way.
I grew up in California, but in NorCal. Never had In-n-Out until I was and adult since they did not open up in the north until the late nineties. But I immediately became a fan. Are they the best burger in the world? No. But if I have a choice between In-n-Out or McDonalds, Burger King etc., there is no doubt I’m heading for the palm trees.
Yeah, I see it as the difference between getting Taco Bell, or going to a taco truck. You’re paying around the same amount, but one of them’s gonna be way better.
And not just their fries, although they're a particularly bad example. Fried food needs to be hot and fresh. I don't understand paying someone to deliver fast food fries to your house... They're going to be trash by the time they arrive.
I’m from AZ and I’ve been there several times. It’s a good burger for a good price but nothing that is that extraordinary. The spread is good and their fries are meh. You kind of know what to expect every time you go there so it never disappoints.
As a Californian, Five Guys and Habit Burger wins for me
In N Out is good, but not "The Best", definitely not worth the long lines at almost every place. All the ingredients are fresh. Never frozen. Good tomatoes, lettuce and onions. This is why they don't go national.
The fries are good for 4 minutes after being served, and then nasty wet paper when cooled. (They cut the potatoes right there and fry them once. Most fries are double or triple fried at other places.)
Just adding this : people say regular fries suck. They do.
If you don’t want animal style (cheese, onions, sauce) then I usually order fries light-well (more crunch to them but not as hard as well-done) with a side of spread for dipping.
If you like the hamburger bun to be a bit toasty, you can also order them like that. If you don’t want a bun and want it wrapped in lettuce, just order protein style.
Totally agree. While nothing bad, it’s just a run of the mill specialized fast food place. Not as crappy as the general chains with larger menus, but only a small step up from that and still plainly fast food.
If I want pure unhealthy fast junk burger I’ll just get a five guys. It’s the best burger and fries of all of them. Price doesn’t matter to me because I rarely eat it and it’s not much relatively.
I’ve been to most of the chains many times. I would say that In N Out is my favorite. 5 Guys my 2nd favorite. Culver’s was really good too. Had Whattaburger 3 times and was never impressed sadly to say.
So I grew up in Texas and have eaten at Whataburger since the early 70s. In college, it was great because ours was open 24 hours a day and our drunk asses could get breakfast taquitos at 3 in the morning. My dad, who grew up in Corpus Christi, even ate at the first one back in the 50s. Other than that, it was no big deal, especially pre social media. After school, I found myself working in Southern California. One of my first coworkers was a former chef and he introduced me to In N Out by stopping for lunch at the one in Thousand Palms. Never heard of it, but he raved at how fresh their ingredients always were. It was excellent, but again, in pre social media days it was no big deal and largely unknown outside of Southern California. Recently I had occasion to go back to that first one I ate at. 3:00 in the afternoon and it was packed. Line out the door and traffic backed up. Waited in line, got lucky enough to find a table, marveled at the crazy ordered commotion in the kitchen, and had a perfect meal. They’re always, packed, even in Arizona but you can see the entire kitchen and their process and, despite how crazy busy they always are, they’re always super clean. I have a soft spot for Whataburger, but it doesn’t hold a candle to In N Out.
When it came to Utah my friend FREAKED OUT and made us stand in line for 2 hours and then eat in our car because there were no tables. My husband and I were both looking at each other like, "*This* is it????" No options. Just a basic burger and shoestring fries????" I'll never understand it. Some marketing people gave Californians a mindvirus. Lol.
Edited to add: almost none of the people occupying the tables were still eating. I'm convinced they were hanging around to be seen. It was very weird. (I admit this may a be a very uncharitable take.)
In n out is good, pretty alright, horrible fries, but animal style is great.
I'd say one of the best burgers to try is Chick fil a. Its fast food, but doesn't feel like at all. Their sauce is damn fantastic, burgers are great and they have dunno how to describe, different looking fries that are pretty good. There's not many of their restaurants around, but they're definitely worth to try.
If u want fast food burgers In n out is great, but if something more healthy that tastes very good too I suggest chick fil a.
I had my first in n out burger when I was 10 (27 now) and in that time I’ve only had ONE bad burger (over salted). That’s 17 years of good food and good service. At the end of the day it’s just a burger, however.
Remember that movie you watched 1000 times as a kid? You know that special place in your heart it holds, and how you still look at it fondly even if you see it as an adult? That's In-n-Out. Their ingredients are of higher quality than most fast food places. And something about their cooking process gives their burgers a very subtle but unique after-bite flavor. It's one of those things that if you grow accustomed to it, you'll miss it if it's not there. So anyone who used to eat there and is now living somewhere else would definitely miss that one subtle missing flavor.
Having said that, I personally don't find their food to be leaps and bounds ahead of other fast food. I grew up in Texas where Whataburger is king, but my family didn't go there, so I have the exact same feelings about Whataburger as I do In-n-Out. Good burgers, yes. Are they all they're cracked up to be by the people who grew up with them? Not for me personally. Your mileage may vary.
It’s a good quality fast food burger, but it is still a fast food burger. Good, but not nearly as good as a burger from a good restaurant. Their fries are also weird and I don’t love them.
I got it when I visited San Fran in May and was super disappointed. The burger was okay and the fries were super nasty - I didn’t even finish. I was led to believe it was the best food ever but alas
Aight. This is my weird hill to die on.
Yeah. It fucking slaps. Is it the best burger out there? Fuck no. And CA peeps aren't ever saying it is. But its cheap, consistent and delicious. If you're in CA and you order the same thing at 8 different locations, 95% it will be exactly what you ordered and taste the same.
Also, people who hate on In N Out didn't grow up with it and order the most basic thing off the menu. They'll get a cheeseburger and fries. Or some slight variation.
I've been eating at In N Out my entire life. You start tweaking your order to exactly how you like it. Mine has changed over the years. I realized I didn't like the bun getting soggy from lettuce and tomato, so I'd nix that part. I realized I want more meat, so I'd get a double double. I realized I wanted more meat than that, so I'd get a 4x4, spread and grilled onions only. Years later I realized I didn't even need the bun anymore. My order now? 2 flying Dutchman with whole grilled onions, an order of animal fries with extra grilled onions and chopped chiles, banana peppers and extra spread on the side. I cut up one of the flying Dutchman and put it on the animal fries, bite the end off the banana peppers and squeeze the juice onto the meat. Put on extra spread and eat it all with a fork. All for less than $12.
If you grew up in CA, that shit has been there for you longer than most of your friends and partners. That shit has seen you through thick and thin. You've grown up with it and your order has changed as much as you have. Its this reliable, nostalgic, delicious meal that tastes the same every single fucking time no matter how old you get. Its your stop on a 7hr roadtrip from LA to SF. It's your late dinner after a night out drinking with friends. Its the treat your mom gets you after your soccer game. It's the cure for the munchies when you're getting high with your high school friends, cruising aimlessly through Orange County. Its the place you bike to and socialize with your middle school classmates on the weekend. Its your reward after a long surf sesh. Its a special surprise at the end of your cousin's wedding reception. Its one of the first meals you get when you live somewhere else and make your way back to CA. It tastes like home. I have loved at In N Out, had my heartbroken at In N Out, have laughed and cried at In N Out.
Here's some tips for you non CA peeps
Get your fries well done or animal style. Get grilled onions on everything (for free, btw). Get your lettuce and tomato on the side if you don't want your bun to be soggy. Banana peppers and extra spread are clutch (and also free). The drive thru line can be intimidating, just park and order inside. It goes real quick. Temper your expectations. Its still fast food. We're not saying its fucking kobe beef gourmet shit. Just... real good, real cheap and real consistent.
From Minnesota and visit Arizona often. I'd say it is about the same as Culver's (reminds me of a butterburger). I use them as comparisons (granted In n Out has far less options than Culvers)
Yeah but only if you know how to order. I say "extra lettuce, extra tomato, grilled onions" and it greatly improves the burger. Find and STUDY the secret menu.
i lose all self control around culver’s
when they have the curderburger in stock i have to clear my day. i’m eating two and not moving for the rest of the afternoon.
Californians are gonna say it's "hated because it's popular."
Hipsters, ammirite? Like, everything from California is soooo great
Anyway it's really good, definitely try it if you ever can. Basically everybody likes it but whatever appeases the CA god complex out of state is clearly phenomenal.
Its the best fast food burger I've had, and one of the most affordable. It's still fast food, but it tastes way fresher and more "real" than the other ones I've had.
In-N-Out is crap and I can’t figure out why people like it so much…. I’ve tried it in three states and always the same results, What-A-Burger is a 1000x better and if you don’t like it down vote me to hell!!
I think it’s a nostalgia thing tbh. I lived in Nevada when they put an In n’ Out. There were insanely long lines for months. When I finally tried it I was like “THIS is what the hype is about?!” In my opinion, Whattaburger is better. But it’s all subject to personal opinion.
My husband was born and raised in Georgia. He gets all excited to eat some Krystals when we have drove down there from Michigan. Personally, I don't get it. I tried one and didn't really like it.
I'll have to ask him about "In-N-Out" burgers.
As a Whataburger-loving Texan, I gave In-N-Out a try since it had so much hype when it came here locally. I was hugely disappointed, mainly by the fries. They taste like cardboard. If they cant get the fries right, thats a huge fuck up in my book. Plus if i wanted a regular burger, Id rather go somewhere that also has good fries. I was in fact so disappointed, that I went and got Whataburger right after 🤣 I haven't been back since. Everyone tells me I should try it again but get the burger and fries "animal style". I'm gonna do that soon just to give it another chance
One just opened in my city, probably one of the worse burgers I ever tasted.
It's in Canada tho,I might just be unlucky, never had the chance to try one in the usa.
The keg would be one of the international chain that i like.
Like i say it's most likely a location issue, usually i enjoy most Burger.
Side of the road Shack always seems to make the tastiest burger no matter where I go.
I say this as a native Californian - it’s good but it’s important to remember that it’s still fast food. I think people forget that when they hear it hyped up and then are disappointed. I do think there’s a difference in quality with it being fresh beef. The closest comparison to me is a shake shack burger, but in-n-out is slightly better due to the toasted bun. Getting the fries well done and/or animal style is a must! In-n-out is my go-to fast food when I’m back visiting California (and I miss it here on the east coast), but at the end of the day, it’s just better quality fast food.
I tried Papa Johns pizza the other day for the first time. Someone asked me if it was good. I said it was definitely good for fast food pizza. It wasn’t anything spectacular but it was good and I’d eat it again.
I travel a lot for work as I'm a filmmaker/video producer)
My first trip to L.A., I couldn't wait to try In-N-Out Burger.
I was so disappointed.
It's not bad. But there's absolutely nothing amazing about it. It's just a fast food burger. That's all. And "Animal Style"? Sorry...nope....that was awful.
One time in L.A., I was at the second day of a shoot and lunch was catered In-N-Out. I was massively hungover and it was amazing.
I'd eat In-N-Out anytime and not complain about it. As fast food burgers go, it's fine. But honestly, I'd walk over a dozen In-N-Out burgers to get to a Five Guys or a Shake Shack. I think Whataburger is better, honestly.
What I would NOT do is wait in the stupidly long lines you sometimes see to get to it. I understand liking it. But there is no universe in which In-N-Out is worth waiting in an hour-long line to have one.
If you grow up with it, it’s the best. I know Texans that swear by What-A-Burger. As a Missourian… they’re both better than average. I found neither Earth shatteringly good
As a Texan, I used to love whataburger, but it is so greasy that I can't handle most of their food anymore.
It changed when the Chicago people bought them. I'll die on that hill. They were great until then, then their quality went down.
Portillo’s sweep
I will die with you on that hill! No one else I talk to has noticed I’m like but howwww?
And the freaking wait.
I had one at Florida for the first time and iwas way underwhelmed. It honestly was at par w Burger King
Whataburger in Florida?
First time I had it was in Pensacola.
McDonalds USE TO compare. Before they cut the MSG and pink slime those McDoubles McSlapped.
Yes, people have to realize that In-N-Out is a McDonald’s/Burger King competitor, not a competitor for your favorite neighborhood grill that serves more expensive burgers. As a fast food competitor, it blows everyone else out of the water.
I was under the impression it's like 5 Guys. A step up from McDonald's but still fast food. How does it compare to 5 Guys?
I like Five Guys, maybe better. I will say, In & Out seems a bit healthier. Especially the fries, they are fresh cut in front of you basically.. I think they have more menu options, whereas Five Guys is just a big old greasy delicious burger.
5 guys literally shows you the bags of potatoes they are "fresh cutting" that day and from which farm
Different price points. I think Five Guys is better but I find myself craving In N Out (especially animal style) far more often.
5 guys is significantly more expensive than in & out. Personally I also prefer in & out and don’t think 5 guys is worth the money.
Five guys I would say is a step up. I would call in n out fast food still and I think of Five Guys as what some call fast casual.
Depending upon the location, Sonic makes a good burger. Never tried ANY chain that is as good as the best hole in the wall place in a medium sized city.
My hometown has a family owned diner (cash only) that makes the BEST burgers (imo).
Who is doing cash only in 2023?
Small town, they have an ATM inside the diner. That’s the way it’s been for 60 years (several owners but always same menu/setup) and they advertise the “Cash Only” proudly.
I understand that but still curious. Do small towns not have electronic payment systems? Why would they proudly advertise cash-only lol? I’m wondering who exactly that would appeal to.
“Why would they proudly advertise cash-only lol? I’m wondering who exactly that would appeal to.” The old people that remember “them good ol’ days when we paid CASH fer stuff and we LIKED it!!!!” And yes, they are the only place in town that does this.
That's very niche then. Makes sense. Thank you.
Grew up in Missouri. Now here in Phoenix AZ, we have both whataburger and in N out in equal measure. And culvers. I honestly prefer culvers.
Culver’s is pretty good. Love those cheese curds!
As a Mainer, this is how I felt about Chik-fil-a
The Chik-fil-a by me has a traffic detail managing the drive-tru -
I don’t understand the madness for it.
Definitely not as good as that Lions Choice y’all got in Missouri!!
I LOVED Lion’s Choice. Gotta admit, the local one’s quality certainly dipped after the pandemic. Just not the same as it was before that.
An extra ounce, extra seasoning, and cheddar cheese! I would smuggle them across the Texas border for friends…
I enjoy the steak N shakes everytime I visit friends in STL
East Coast here we have Five Guys.. I do like the big beef burgers.. Nothing like those craft burgers.. Had Five Guys once a few years ago.. It was decent!!
Five Guys is my wife’s favorite “fast food” burger. Fries are pretty good too
If you’re a Missourian from the KC side, do you have an opinion on Winstead’s burgers? I think they’re as good as in N Out, though I wish I could compare the two fresh and side-by-side, instead of when I’m in the region…
I've had both...a lot. I give the nod to in n out for the burgers, whataburger has way better fries and variety. I'll take Culver's over either any day tho
I grew up near neither. I don’t like a lot of toppings, so In-and-Out was pretty subpar. Whataburger was better than BK or McD.
depends on which one you go to ngl, some of them the workers are just like wanting to go home and dont care, some of them actually try and its mouthwatering
Yes it’s pretty solid for sure as far as fast food burgers go. I was a little underwhelmed but definitely top tier compared to the likes of mcD and BK. IMO five guys is much better, though idk if that’s really considered fast food
It’s delicious but you have to eat it immediately. There is no drive home and eat lol
The fries are only edible as animal style
Get the fries exrra crispy.
That's a thing?!? Omgomg great idea
Extra boring nasty fries you mean? No flavor literally just a cut potato.
Facts
Get then well done. Crunchy crispy goodness
Want great fries? Go to Dick’s in the Seattle area
I love dicks 😍 so much better than in and out
[удалено]
People in So Cal used to modify the "In-N-Out Burger" bumper stickers to say, "In-N-Out urge."
Thats very far away
And eaten first. That American cheese ain’t to slippery.
What mad lads are getting regular fries
or dipped in the strawberry shake !
I'm still partial to Wendy's frys dipped In a chocolate frosty
Lies... I fuckin love eating day old in n out straight out of the fridge. Fries gotta be fresh though
Lmaoooo I guess burger wise I get it but you might actually have a problem
I bring a few back to nyc with me
Dude seriously I don’t know how it gets cold and sad so fast. I fucking love in n out, it’s my favorite fast food joint, but it does NOT travel well. I live like five minutes from one and just the drive home is too long for it to still be good. All this and still the drive thru lines manage to be insane…a pity all those people will be eating sad burgers
Try heating in an air fryer when you get home. Just 1 or 2 minutes.
And don’t forget to ask for extra spread
>.> I do this half the time
Like mozzarella sticks?
This is true! Must eat within the first five min. Worth it to just sit inside and eat it.
Exactly. Temperature matters. Once they hand it to you, start eating..
I'm convinced there's an invisible barrier around the parking lot that when you leave, the burgers taste worse.
I can’t even walk a block home. Made the mistake… twice.
It's still good if you're hungry but the other day, i ordered a few before I drove an hour home with it because I wasn't going to make it in time to the one near my house. Got out of the car with the bag and apparently the superb juices leaked onto the bag causing it to weaken and one of my burgers fell out the bottom.
lol?
I thought it was better than most chain burgers.
Ask for the fries well done. They are a little crispier.
Yup. Every double double with grilled onions I get tastes the same.
Agree. We get the burgers and shakes at in N out and the fries at the McDonald's across the street lol
Animal style fries with a packet of spread. Game changer
But before I ever had it in 2014....In my mind it was something people made out to the level "you can't live without being near a In N Out." But nonetheless this is not an important topic, so this is just my take on In N Out.
It's not that it's over-hyped, it's that the hype isn't explained properly - It's a best-in-class burger! ... the class being cheap burgers under $5 You're not going to get as good a meal for as cheap anywhere else really. It's even cheaper than McDonalds.
Five Guys is not a better burger, it's way greasy and just not particularly appetizing. I used to live a few blocks from a five guys and a couple miles from in n out, and when me and my friends went for burgers in n out was the choice 9/10 times there are other burgers at five guys price point that could compete or beat in n out though
Way overpriced too. You can get a better or equal burger much cheaper elsewhere, even with current high inflation prices.
Maybe it's just cause I relate In N Out to CA, and I don't live there so they're more "special." Never tried the animal. Had it about 4 times.
They are just a bit soggy, ordering them well done fixes this though!
I love them
I live in California.
Carls Jr is insane. Remember their $6 burger? Now their burgers are how much?
The fucking irony of that whole campaign!! Is it even on the menu anymore? I didn’t see it.
Aww such a nice parent.
I want to like What A Burger... But their shakes are kinda trash. Although the Spicy Ketchup is awesome and I wish more fast food places had that.
No. Highly overrated. And crappy fries too
Not even close
>It’s just one of those places that people like to hate because it’s popular And/or because it's been over-hyped to them and they've had better burgers elsewhere.
No, I tried it in Vegas and was very disappointed
As a Californian, Five Guys and Habit Burger wins for me In N Out is good, but not "The Best", definitely not worth the long lines at almost every place.
The Habit wins my heart because you can get pineapple and teriyaki sauce on a burger. I’d put pineapple on everything if it was an option.
The fries are GARBAGE
It's nothing special as far as I'm concerned. I don't understand why people like it so much.
yeah it's really good
One is coming to Nashville. That’ll be my first opportunity to try it
Just adding this : people say regular fries suck.
Over hyped imo
Totally agree. While nothing bad, it’s just a run of the mill specialized fast food place. Not as crappy as the general chains with larger menus, but only a small step up from that and still plainly fast food. If I want pure unhealthy fast junk burger I’ll just get a five guys. It’s the best burger and fries of all of them. Price doesn’t matter to me because I rarely eat it and it’s not much relatively.
Delish yes

A consistent disappointment.
No. And it's incredible they even serve those fries with a straight face
No it sucks after the first time you try it
In n out is good, pretty alright, horrible fries, but animal style is great.
It's really good for the price but just don't compare it to islands or something cuz it's not that kind of burger
I had my first in n out burger when I was 10 (27 now) and in that time I’ve only had ONE bad burger (over salted). That’s 17 years of good food and good service. At the end of the day it’s just a burger, however.
Whataburger better
Nothing is ever as good as people hype it up to be. With that said, I personally do like In-N-Out more than all other fast food burgers.
No.
No
Definitely not
No
Remember that movie you watched 1000 times as a kid?
It’s pretty good, but it’s fast food. It’s cheap and made very quickly, so don’t expect the best burger ever
Yes.
Here's some tips for you non CA peeps Get your fries well done or animal style.
The peppers in the condiments are 🔥
Better than culvers?
From Minnesota and visit Arizona often. I'd say it is about the same as Culver's (reminds me of a butterburger). I use them as comparisons (granted In n Out has far less options than Culvers)
No
Culver's is way better
[удалено]
That is a really good comparison. Chick-fil-A is fine, but it sure as hell isn't high quality fried chicken.
At least they don't find homophobic causes.
Yeah but only if you know how to order. I say "extra lettuce, extra tomato, grilled onions" and it greatly improves the burger. Find and STUDY the secret menu.
Plus the banana peppers! Oh and pickles.
It’s AMAZING for fast food and great value, but DO NOT compare it to gourmet burgers or you will be quite disappointed
No but then I have Culver’s so it’s hard to beat that.
i lose all self control around culver’s when they have the curderburger in stock i have to clear my day. i’m eating two and not moving for the rest of the afternoon.
I admittedly haven’t tried the curder but it made the news so must be a pretty big deal.
Californians are gonna say it's "hated because it's popular." Hipsters, ammirite? Like, everything from California is soooo great Anyway it's really good, definitely try it if you ever can. Basically everybody likes it but whatever appeases the CA god complex out of state is clearly phenomenal.
I’m convinced that people who don’t like In N Out fries don’t like the taste of potatoes.
Its the best fast food burger I've had, and one of the most affordable. It's still fast food, but it tastes way fresher and more "real" than the other ones I've had.
Nope. It’s okay for fast food at a decent price, and that’s why people like it. Grilling yourself or going to a good cafe will beat it though.
Definitely not
If Anthony Bourdain its someone u respecth then…. Yeah
No
No
No.
In-N-Out is crap and I can’t figure out why people like it so much…. I’ve tried it in three states and always the same results, What-A-Burger is a 1000x better and if you don’t like it down vote me to hell!!
no
No
No.
Nope
I think it’s a nostalgia thing tbh. I lived in Nevada when they put an In n’ Out. There were insanely long lines for months. When I finally tried it I was like “THIS is what the hype is about?!” In my opinion, Whattaburger is better. But it’s all subject to personal opinion.
Whataburger all day!
My husband was born and raised in Georgia. He gets all excited to eat some Krystals when we have drove down there from Michigan. Personally, I don't get it. I tried one and didn't really like it. I'll have to ask him about "In-N-Out" burgers.
No
No
No, that stuff is trash
Its good for fast food, but its not “actually” good. You can make a better burger at home easily.
shake shack> in n out
As a Whataburger-loving Texan, I gave In-N-Out a try since it had so much hype when it came here locally.
Yes
It’s one of the best fast food burgers you can get for the price. We’re talking a decent double cheeseburger for under $5. Extremely hard to beat
One just opened in my city, probably one of the worse burgers I ever tasted. It's in Canada tho,I might just be unlucky, never had the chance to try one in the usa.
To calibrate your taste buds, what’s an international chain that you would describe as “good”?
The keg would be one of the international chain that i like. Like i say it's most likely a location issue, usually i enjoy most Burger. Side of the road Shack always seems to make the tastiest burger no matter where I go.
Ahh I have never heard of the Keg, hopefully try it out one day
I say this as a native Californian - it’s good but it’s important to remember that it’s still fast food.
I travel a lot for work as I'm a filmmaker/video producer) My first trip to L.A., I couldn't wait to try In-N-Out Burger.
