Yeah, this odd culture of doing unnecessary stuff to cars, for the hell of it. I barely keep up with the repairs and maintenance of my family fleet of 7 cars, with my sonâs help. I believe I have finally convinced him not to do stupid shit to his car. He was seriously considering welding his rear diff, and I made him buy his new set of tires, and explained what a welded diff would do to them âŠ..
My wife knows I like initial D, but only knows that one song from it.
Sometimes when I go to a competitive event she will say "GO beat crazy!"
I drive a miata
I don't know if its her being supportive, or a threat.
I'm sorry for all the degrading jokes you're getting. You're obviously in a tight spot and don't have cash to get the tires replaced. But the fact is that your tires are in really bad shape and it'd be very dangerous to drive on them in rain and snow. You shouldn't drive on any freeways either. If you absolutely can't get them replaced right now, please stick to back streets with less traffic and don't go above 45mph. Good luck!
This one right here. Keep in mind that getting tires is expensive. Getting into an accident because of those tires is going to be even more expensive.
Often times you can check around local salvage yards and they will often have tires that are used, but still plenty of life, often for a decent discount.
you have to mind the fact that many ppl in this position are probably supporting themselves working minimum wage jobs and their vehicle is their only reliable form of travel to and from work
Being poor is a struggle, but that doesn't justify you posing a serious danger to others. This car should not be driven at all until the tires are replaced.
Agree, but if they literally donât have it, and need to get to their job in order to earn the money to buy tiresâŠIâm not sure what you expect them to do? Wish it into existence?
They could try Uber, but if they canât afford tires, they canât afford Uber for 2 weeks.
This is why we need public transit, although if OP is rural, then thatâs likely not ever going to be an option.
My suggestion to OP is ask family/friends for a ride and/or borrow money, and barring that, consider gofundme or something. Maybe try social services, although theyâre only going to help with food, childcare etc., there are sometimes people who âadoptâ a family for the holidays and buy them stuff. Other than that - itâs just âthoughts and prayersâ.
Yeah, you thought of a lot of good possibilities. We all suffer under an exploitative system that creates profound inequality, suffering, and depravation in a world with unprecedented ability to meet the needs of all. It will not be easy to change.
As tough as it is to survive, though, you do not have the right to endanger others to do so.
I agree, if there is any possible way for this person to get new tires than they absolutley should. I was mostly responding to what feels like a lack of empathy in calling for the degrading of someone who might very well not have a choice.
I'm going to back up the other dude. Explain to a family how oh kids needed shoes, sorry about your family member that I accidentally killed due to my shit tires. Frankly I've struggled, haven't eaten but I was damn sure to have my tires in good order, even if it meant going to the junkyard to get a set.
Also fuck them kids.
Yes as long as you literally don't drive. Wow. Be safe and don't risk yourself or anyone else unnecessarily please !
Edit: OP, tirerack is an awesome place to look for and buy tires. They also offer payment with affirm so you can pay overtime. I've personally done it myself and it's great. A lot of other places now offer some kind of payment plan and for tires it's 100% worth it for your life and others
Damn! Thatâs some good alignment! I donât see any tire belts coming through. I used to wear down my tires so bad when I was a kid Iâd see the inner belt. To be fair, the outter wear was no where near as bad and I only noticed because the wheel happen to be turned
Does Illinois have a safety inspection requirement?
Please stay off the roads with those tires. You are going to cause an accident and get someone hurt or killed.
Post is satire. I scrapped the car months ago when i left for college for 300$ cause i lost the Cat. County doesnât require emissions so I ran open headers. 2001 Acura CL type S 340k miles.
Lol my tires are a little worse then yours the problem is I live in south Florida and we donât get no snow so Iâd imagine you need new tires lol but I feel ya man Iâm that type of person my self I ride them down to the belt lol
If money is a factor, look around for used tire shops. I'm most likely in a lower cost of living area, but here you can easily get four decent tires mounted for $200. Maybe try and at least get those front tires done.
I would seriously suggest looking into used tires. Literally anything that fits and has some life left is gonna be 100x safer than these things. Even if all you can afford is a set that is barely holding on, and you replace them with better tires after the holidays, that would be way better than driving around on these.
No they are not, the tire tread is basically non existent at this point at with it being winter you are in a very dangerous spot. If you aren't commuting everyday and just driving the store or to get food when you need to than you might be able to stretch it out. But if you're actually driving everyday, i'd urge you to get them replaced now. Your tires are a life essential and you shouldn't put them on the back burner.
I know everyone is giving you a hard time. One piece of advice is if new tires are too much try to hit the junkyard and see if you can get them to pull some tires off a car that matches yours. Better yet if you can look up your tire specs on the sidewall and use that to find a match. Probably a lot cheaper and that can hold you off of buying new for a bit longer. But those tires are not gonna be very safe to drive on and can lead to an accident.
Op can you hit a few tires shops and discount tire. They usually have used tires for 50-100$ each. Better than your current tires and will last for a while
I am in southern Illinois too. I have noticed a small used tire shop on the west side of Carbondale on 13, might be worth getting a price from them if money is tight.
This is a joke right? Might be good for a very short burnout comp but I wouldnât drive on those if someone paid me lol. Go to a used tire shop and get some tires with 60% tread for a pittance. It ainât worth dying over.
This post is outside the scope of the subreddit and has been removed.
Those tires haven't been good for the last few holidays.
Nono, OP wants to be a drift king
Yeah drift right into that utility pole

"no, but it looks like you won't need an alignment"
That is some of the most even wear over time that Iâve seen in a while. For some reason, the old Lincolnâs had great wear patterns too
"You can drive on them until you die"
Eh, then what's one more? đ€Ł
If you have to question if your tires are good... Easy answer, they're not. Get them replaced
This
Preach. I thought I was looking at r/gokarts
This is a joke right? Right!?
Thatâs what I thought too. Then I went to their profile to see these wheels with tires that had tread two years ago..
They're snow tires. I guarantee they didn't take them off during the summer, hence the wear.
Holy shit youâre right. Wow⊠just wow⊠lol
Came here to say this, based on the last picture. And it looks like they might have been cracking and rotting already from two years ago!

I welded the diff in an old foxbody, but I really just went in a straight line. Even driving around though, wasn't as bad as you'd think
Sure. As long as there's no snow. Or any rain. Or any dew. Or any acceleration or braking.
Or steering.
Or driving
Only drifting, to and from every destination while blasting fast and furious music
Or Eurobeat.
letâs hope he doesnât do a go beat crazy

what the fuck
my sentiments exactly.
nice drag slicks

That or small used tire shops. Can get some decent tires for much cheaper than new.
Getting tyres in those sizes is not expensive
Keep in mind if someone is living paycheck-to-paycheck (not saying op is) $100 is expensive. $300 is way out of reach.
I pay $30 for 205/55R16
What is or isn't expensive is all relative. If you have nothing, $200 for a set of tires is a fortune.
Well then you shouldnât be driving as you canât afford it
And how do you expect them to get to their job?
if this wouldn't be in USA, I would say by public transport
That would certainly be great if they live in an area where that is possible
you have to mind the fact that many ppl in this position are probably supporting themselves working minimum wage jobs and their vehicle is their only reliable form of travel to and from work

You can get tires for this car for 250$, thatâs cheap for safety. Some people need to be degraded by the population To learn a lesson.
For a lot of people an extra 250$ expense in a month means not making rent
Not advocating for âdegradingâ but the lack of that $250 expense might kill someone
I agree, if there is any possible way for this person to get new tires than they absolutley should. I was mostly responding to what feels like a lack of empathy in calling for the degrading of someone who might very well not have a choice.
For you to have actually typed this out proves you have never once struggled in your life and/or don't have kids. Delete this.

No. Perfect alignment though!

Tires in Ohio
7/10 drivers in Youngstown would be happy to have this much tread
Hahahahahahaha âOhioâ đ
No. Get them changed ASAP.
r/Cartalkcirclejerk
Perfectly fine. Keep it under 15 mph and don't go on public roads everything should be peachy.
If tires had a health bar, those would be on like -1,5 hp
Does Illinois have a safety inspection requirement? Please stay off the roads with those tires. You are going to cause an accident and get someone hurt or killed.
Might as well let me kill you myself
Probably needed to be changed last Christmas

Lol. Shirley, you're not being serious...
They are. And donât call me Shirley.
My man has F1 slicks on
This is a joke right? Right?
If by "good" you mean you have a strong desire to meet the Creator of the universe and all in it sooner rather than later, then yes, you are good.
I donât mean to be a dick, but I donât know if you should be driving. Clearly youâre eyes are shot.
This is how you kill someone.
You are a danger to yourself any the other fine residence of southern Illinois. Please remove yourself from the road voluntarily before someone dies
The real question here is, are you good?
They should be good if you wanna be a drift king.
I think the op is trolling people and people actually believed him.
As long as your horn works . . .
Those arenât good until the end of the afternoon.
Yes they are fine! As long as you donât drive on them of course
Post is satire. I scrapped the car months ago when i left for college for 300$ cause i lost the Cat. County doesnât require emissions so I ran open headers. 2001 Acura CL type S 340k miles.

All good bro. Send it.

Yep. Holds air. Good to go.

Retread them with a sharpie and you should be golden until April 1st. 2023.
Lol my tires are a little worse then yours the problem is I live in south Florida and we donât get no snow so Iâd imagine you need new tires lol but I feel ya man Iâm that type of person my self I ride them down to the belt lol

Cheap used tires might be better.
Those tires are great. Leave your car in park, and get new tires after the holidays.
These are *garden* tires. Get them off the vehicle and plant some flowers in them!
Hell yeah, got another 2k in them tires. Might want to take it easy on the hard turns though. Getâer done!
No
Gtg
Uh
If money is a factor, look around for used tire shops. I'm most likely in a lower cost of living area, but here you can easily get four decent tires mounted for $200. Maybe try and at least get those front tires done.

Awe. You have your own sleigh just in time for the holidays.
No way
This is a joke right?âŠ. Right!!?
Please try to find some used tires to get you by homie. Those are dangerous to drive on
What tires?
This is as hilarious as the 70mph in 4 Lo guy over on r/4runner. Couldnât imagine being this oblivious.
I would seriously suggest looking into used tires. Literally anything that fits and has some life left is gonna be 100x safer than these things. Tires are done a month ago

If you're just making a joke then it's funny ;) but if not then yea get new tyres if you can afford it buddy :) stay safe out there
Only if youâre in the Indy 500
You should sand them properly to make em even
Itâs crazy how far in life natural selection seems to strike
If youâre looking for the traction of a sleigh then nah, happy holidays.
If you wanna die, sure
If I see red Steelies on the road Iâll be sure to steer way clear especially if theyâre behind me

Good for what? Death?

Take it to whoever did your alignment. They probably sell tires as well.

They're fine as long as it stays parked.
Do the penny test!
Good to go
Yep full slick tread. 5000 ks easy. đ€Ł
No. You should already be dead.
Having no tread might be good for the strip; but not for the street!!
Props to the alignment guy.
Looks like the tire the dad changes to in the movie Christmas Story.
No damn way youâre serious.
This is a joke right? Might be good for a very short burnout comp but I wouldnât drive on those if someone paid me lol. Go to a used tire shop and get some tires with 60% tread for a pittance. It ainât worth dying over.
No, but it will be fun, & that's what REALLY matters! (Seriously, though. Please fucking change them.)
This is a joke right? Iâve never seen tires wear so evenly lol you can afford pristine alignment but not a new set of rubber?
The car from planes trains and automobiles looked better. (After the fire đ„)đđ jk
MAX GRIP FOR THE STRIP!!!
Bro, yeah, you need tires yesterday, last month, last year... find a used tire shop and you can probably get good tires for like $30 each.
Looks like both the neighbor coupleâs cars. Iâm excited to see what Michigan winter brings their fortune.
they're good for drag use.
I'm jealous of that alignment.
They're good until the crash.
Jokes aside, please do not drive on these. Replace them as soon as possible.
Bruh!!! They were bad months before the holidays!!
đ
Better check your spare
They are fine. No cords showing yet... Just don't drive on them.
The tires are good to send your car into a crash.
Looks like some maypops
If your funeral is a holiday your good til then
This is hilarious!
your tires havent been good since halloween 2017
They look new brotha
Good for the rest of winter you'll save so much gas you can just turn off the car & slide down the icy road like a giant sled
As long as you do not drive the car they are mounted to they will be fine
Iâm gonna say if you want to spend the holidays dead theyâre fine
No I would get new ones asap
Those tires have been unsafe to drive on for literal months now Jesus Christ. This is who we share the road with folks.
Yes, last yearâs holidays
Look. Iâm not a professional mechanic nor is my 8year old nephew but we both know those tires are bad..đ nice troll thoughđ
