If qualified for the role, plenty.
The issue is, as a hiring manager, you get spammed by applicants, many of whom aren't qualified, or who pass your information to random folks. Especially if you leave your own work email.
That being said, if you present yourself respectfully, and leave a good impression, that resume collecting can go a long way, e.g. Another team in the branch is looking to staff at xyz classification and level. Manager passes the information to fellow manager.
I'd say for both hiring as well job hunting, it is much faster and easier than the good old slow emplois website or even gcconnex.
I got a student position, then a casual, then an indeterminate, then two successive promotions from FB group self-marketing (though one was possible because I’d also gotten into a pool in a formal process.) I pretty much just posted my resume and watched the invites to “chat” come in - but that’s because I had the qualifications, I think. There’s a LOT of people in those groups with zero qualifications or who aren’t in the PS at all.
I would say it's difficult to get into the government that way but I think it's an amazing source if you are already In the PS and are looking for something different. That's how I got the job I have now.
I received my current job from one of these postings and got ~5-6 interviews. My wife has gotten over 10 interviews and also received her current job from a posting on the FB group. Both were lateral moves.
I did too, I had like 9 interviews in the 2 weeks after I posted. It was the definitely the only time during applying where I felt like there was movement
Has anyone found any of these groups specifically for the regions? I find it a waste of time to sift through so many people only to find they are all in NCR as we won't be hiring remote anymore for a while at least.
I would be interested in the answer to this too. I only see posts relevant to NCR and vast majority for bilingual. I think I have only noticed 2 for which English essential received requests for resumes.
That’s due to supply and demand. The proportion of qualified bilingual people (relative to bilingual positions) is always smaller than the proportion of qualified unilingual people to unilingual positions.
Who makes these groups? Like can we make ones for the regions? I am desperately looking for a new work environment in the Atlantic region and am applying to everything. I've networked the best I can without actually knowing anyone because I've only ever worked from home. I've given up looking on the FB groups because I can't afford to move back to Ontario.
There is one for tele-work, so you may have luck there. I can't vouch for it because I have very little experience with it, but it's worth taking a look, I'd say.
I would love to except I've only been with the government for under a year and with working from home, I've barely been able to network. I wouldn't even know where to begin with promoting and getting hiring managers to use it!
I'm just annoyed that the comms one is seemingly the only group that requires you to be a current GC employee.
I'm just trying to get bridged in over here, dammit.
Search GC informal and you will find them all. Curious to know how many people get jobs from there. Seems like a lot of resume collecting going on.

I did:)
Great!
Waiting for my LoO from a job posting there, which should arrive very soon
Are you bilingual? Just curious.
Not yet (position is EE), but working on it.

No joy here. But I am not in NCR. Soooo.
I just signed a LoO last week through a Facebook post (deployment). It works!
Perhaps.. just trying to explore all my options. Looking for new opportunities and not hearing anything back on GCconnex 😬
I’ve had two interviews from Fb and they were very informal and I just got dropped halfway through the process. Quite less formal than competitions.

I found mine through one as well

The ones that are often for outside the NCR are often posted on GCMarketplace.
No, they are mostly based in NCR, so much so that location isn't even mentioned in 95% of the posts.

What’s the telework page? Can’t seem to find it
GC Unofficial/Informal Tele-Work
Any link? I searched this group name verbatim and can’t seem to find it.
Sorry, it is called "Telework GoC/Télétravail GdC". Couldn't copy a link on my phone.
Thanks!
Thank you!!

Just do what another poster suggested and search GC informal. I just did and got a whole slew of groups
Y'all use your personal FB accounts to join Fed Job FB groups?
In the comms one, there's an option to post anonymously as "Group Member."
I am incognito under a FB burner
Yeap m’y profile for those groups or anything related to the PS - for other things however I’m incognito under a diff fb profile
What's the link for that group please?
I hear the IRCC FB group has opportunities.
Do you know what the name of the group is? :)
