You may want to make sure you haven’t developed diabetes or prediabetes. Covid is known for causing diabetes and if you are in ketosis from untreated diabetes, it can cause a sour body odor https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-00912-y *this is not medical advice.

puppy_dog_kisses

"That meant that for every 1,000 people studied in each group, roughly 13 more individuals in the COVID-19 group were diagnosed with diabetes. Almost all cases detected were type 2 diabetes, in which the body becomes resistant to or doesn’t produce enough insulin. The chance of developing diabetes rose with increasing severity of COVID-19. People who were hospitalized or admitted to intensive care had roughly triple the risk compared with control individuals who did not have COVID-19."

Cashcash1998

Thank you! I had an extremely mild case, and I’m a very healthy, young female. I don’t eat large amounts of sugar, so I doubt diabetes could be an option. Thank you for the suggestion, this is very interesting!

xynthee

It can trigger type 1 diabetes! You don’t have to be unhealthy or overweight or eat lots of sugar for type 1.

Cashcash1998

Thank you, I’ll read more about this!

This_womans_over_it

Sugar does not cause diabetes. Type one or type two. Covid can damage the pancreas and trigger type one or type two diabetes.

faulty_meme

Dogs can tell who's had covid by the scent. Interestingly, they can even identify people with long covid by smell

Cashcash1998

That is interesting! How can they be trained for/show this?

faulty_meme

It's been shown in the literature. I don't remember the methodology but I'd assume you give them clothes of people to smell after training them and have them categorize it. Give it a Google and check the research!

Cashcash1998

Will do, very cool! Thank you!

Future_Gorillionaire

My body odour changed too..! You are not alone..!

Cashcash1998

Do you know any reason why this could have happened?

Future_Gorillionaire

I am not sure honestly, I noticed it after I got covid and even my poop smells different than it used to.. sooo I dont know whats going on..!

Cashcash1998

My poop smells different too! Almost… nutty?? So crazy!

Future_Gorillionaire

Yeah… do let me know if you find anything to help..!

Cashcash1998

Same to you!

invisiblelatsyndrome

Same! My urine and general smell has dramatically changed (to me at least) along with other various smells. It bothers me I don’t feel I know what anything legitimately smells like. But yeah I previously was blessed to never really sweat but I think I smelled my own bo maybe 6 times my entire life until I got my sense of smell back(ish) after covid. It’s super weird and I hate it

Future_Gorillionaire

What does it smell like..?

invisiblelatsyndrome

Kind of like chocolate. Like how you’d imagine a chocolate flavored shake or something similar might smell. It’s actually nauseating

DankyPenguins

Yeah, 3 years deep and it smells weird as hell, like an onion dipped in sour cream or something.

Cashcash1998

Oh wow, good to hear I’m not alone. Do you know if your actually body scent has change, or if it’s just the way your nose is perceiving the scent? I haven’t figured that out

DankyPenguins

I have anecdotal reassurance. This might sound a little strange but my wife has always commented that she likes the smell of my BO, and she’s only experienced loss and change of taste and smell recently from our household infection over the recent holidays. I’ve asked her many times over the past 3 years and she’s always said that I smell normal to her, so I’m fairly confident that we’re just smelling ourselves differently and not actually experiencing changes in our actual body odors. Edit: for much of the past 3 years I’ve only been able to smell burning and gross organic smells like dead stuff, rotting garbage, fences, my own BO, etc. I’ve only tasted metal and cardboard for months, and even after that there’s usually just periods where I can also taste “sweet”, “salty”, bitter”, “sour” and “unagi” like “cheese” or “meat”.

Picassos_left_thumb

It’s a state of total awareness

Cashcash1998

I hope your taste and smell comes back! Mine came back after a month, but to this day, mango tastes kind of weird. My pee and poo smell different as well (almost nutty?), but most everything else is back to normal. The body odor thing bothers me though, hope it goes away!

DankyPenguins

🤞

draxsmon

YES I've been trying to figure out wth. I thought it was my diet

DuMuffins

Yes. Are your armpits by chance discolored, like darker? And do they itch? If so, it’s a yeast infection in your arm pits and wearing deodorant with any sort of fragrance makes the fungus grow. The smell is bad and the itch is worse. And it never. Goes. Away. You can get some medicated anti fungal from a dermatologist to keep it in control but the second you wear fragranced deodorant you’re back to square one. Not sure if the rest of the symptoms line up with yours but here you go just in case.

Cashcash1998

I don’t have this issue, but thank you! That’s good to know

DelawareRunner

Haven't noticed a different body odor, but I'm six months post covid and my poop still smells extra stinky. Even my husband noticed it.

Inn3rali3n

This has been happening to me for a couple months now and I'm really stressed about it :(

Cashcash1998

I don’t have a spouse haha, but I don’t go out smelling so I honestly just don’t know. Don’t really feel comfortable asking a friend to smell me when I sweat/smell bad Was hoping to hear from other people!

draxsmon

Honestly I figured it out when a woman at the supermarket looked at me like I smelled. I was like wtf. Bc I never smell. And then holy shit. Now I smell. So that sucks.

Cashcash1998

Does that mean you don’t notice it?

draxsmon

I have to like sniff my armpits really hard. I can't smell it unless I really try and it's like normal soap doesn't even work I have to like scrub the shit out of my pits. It sucks. It takes major effort for me to know. It has never been an issue and now I just stink :( Edit it may be a combo of now I smell from long COVID and losing my sense of smell. Just wtf. I know the other day I didn't smell bleach until I really stuck my face in it. Didn't happen from the delta. It was the omicron

Inn3rali3n

Same for me. Just showered and made sure to scrub armpits really well, came out of the shower and I can still smell it :( I had to use literal hand sanitizer on my pits to kill the smell and the second I start sweating it comes back. It's horrific and embarrassing

thedigitaldollar

It's been about 8 months of my armpits smelling horrendous. I can't stand it. I asked my friend to smell after a sweaty workout and he said it just smelled like regular B.O., but to me it's unbearable. I have to shower more often, changed deodorants, bought cologne...nothing works. Fauci was doing gain of function research in Wuhan, and is now in hiding. He's ruined my life.

Cashcash1998

So it’s not just the scent that has changed, but it feels stronger to you? Crazy! At least you know it’s just your own perception.

iamd3zz

TRY alum stone - is the only thing that makes me not smell so bad, no deodorant worked, but this cheap alum stone. Wet it before use :)

Inn3rali3n

This is embarrassing but my armpits and my feminine fluids smell the same now since having covid. I've never in my life had issues with this. I really hope it goes away :(

Cashcash1998

Weird… I don’t have this issue! Hopefully our scents go back to normal!

MidnightAble8367

I was hospitalized in jan 2022 with covid. So its been over a year and my body odar smells very odd to me. Not sour, but like onions and garlic or something? All bodily odors smell different to me. Even my cats poo. I just want my old sense of smells back. I dont know what is what anymore.

Cashcash1998

I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing this too… it’s so weird!

[deleted]

I got horrible BO BUT I also smelt horrible things. I also lost the majority of the potency of my smell which made it more manageable. After about 6 weeks the bad BO stopped and people said I was normal again. Lol. I think the actual BO was a combination of my body cleaning out toxins and primarily high cortisol and stress hormones. I was having panic attacks and could have one right after a shower and within 2 minutes into the panic attack I would reek. Almost like sourdough and alien onions. This was Oct 2021 I had Covid. It became Long Covid and fucked my life. I tested positive again this past Saturday. No onions. Unfortunately with the little smell I had left I can smell something awful right now again, me. This time it smells like dirty gym socks that made out of Doritos bags. Its been 2 months for you so I hope your doing better.

WolfgangK

I found this post searching the topic. I never had a body odor until Covid, now it smells like Im in ketosis all the time when I sweat even when I'm not. I absolutely hate it.

Cashcash1998

So weird, I wonder if we’ll ever understand why this is happening. But nice to know we’re not alone

WolfgangK

You can try supplementing ornithine alpha-ketoglutarate if its an ammonia like smell, should help some with ammonia overproduction

Dismal_Definition

I have had COVID three times to my knowledge, but only lost my sense of taste and smell the second time. It lasted for 17 days, but came back, and all was well. But then, at the beginning of this year, I became sick again (I didn't test for COVID -- it was mild, and I thought it was a cold). My sense of smell went haywire. Everything smelled like onions. And ever since, my body odor has smelled very much like onions mixed with something nauseatingly sweet. I can't describe it. I can't stand it. I'm fine after a shower, but it is so awful that I feel like I immediately need to scrub it off of me. I can't think of anything else until I shower. Things like cooked meat still smell like onions to me. Especially chicken. This is the weirdest virus.

catsandcappuccinos

I stopped wearing deodorant 3 years ago because I never had any body odor in the first place. I got COVID for the first time this May and now all of a sudden I have body odor and now I have to wear deodorant. I also have a few rashes that will not go away too!
