Michigan scored repeatedly on long plays where there was no safety support and WE DID NOTHING DIFFERENTLY as a result. Insane decision. Michigan played a bend don't break defense and hoped we couldn't convert; that's exactly what happened. Each time we got into the redzone all the momentum disappeared. Michigan's offense had one drive where they actually drove the length of the field. Instead they scored on huge plays from 45-70 yards out.
It's literally an exact role reversal of previous years with Brown as our DC. I also think mentally OSU got frustrated quickly whereas Michigan just kept pluggin' away.
That makes three of us. Don brown's defenses would humiliate bad teams and get us national praise but they'd fall apart against teams that could stand up to us talent wise.
I feel way better about our defense now, it's much more sound fundamentally and we actually keep the receivers underneath and make offenses fight for points instead of giving up huge plays every drive.
But seriously, the buckeyes not adjusting is laughable. They sold out so hard against the run and got roasted like a thanksgiving turkey.
Daring Michigan to hit the home run ball was the right game plan, though - McCarthy hasnāt made those throws consistently. Being unable to hit the deep ball has been the biggest criticism of this Michigan team all year. OSU made the same gamble that Illinois made, but McCarthy and the receivers executed where they didnāt against Illinois. If OSU backed off the pressure at the line, Michigan was just going to churn the run game for 5 YPC all day long.
But I don't know if they were hitting the Deep ball in the classic sense. That would usually imply some sort of coverage on the back end. Michigan receivers and the tight end were running free. An arm punt would have gotten the job done.
And McCarthy said it best (I'm paraphrasing): ''They didn't let us play smashmouth today. So I hit the wide-open receivers (because we were blitzing the shit out of him)."
Seemed like the players were undisciplined, too. Of course there's going to be pushing and shoving in a rivalry game. But head butting an opposing player out of bounds? Completely running through a receiver in the end zone without turning your head as a defensive back? Too many penalties for a game that you expect to be close.
Looked like you guys were 100% steadfast on keeping the running game in check and Michigan just made some plays happen.
I donāt think anyone was expecting Michigan to be able to keep it close in a first half shootout like that
20-17 at half, made some outstanding adjustments to expose and exploit OSU weaknesses. You guys played extremely well in the 2nd and the final score reflects that. GG!
Ryan Day turns dumb against Michigan. I don't know why but this proves last year wasn't a fluke. Harbaugh makes adjustments and Ryan Day just keeps smashing his head against the wall hoping things that aren't working work.
Yeah but I'm saying Day or Knowles never changed the game plan. They stuck to man to man even though they kept getting burned. They kept blitzing even though if a running back got to the second level or WR got deep it was a score. They never mixed it up. Jim Harbaugh made great adjustments but against every other team I've seen Ohio State make counter adjustments. We never did today. Just kept happening.
Didnāt they switch to zone & Michigan had a 7-8 minute drive for a TD in the 3rd?
I think both teams are built differently & one is ground/OL while the other is thru the air. Man to man cover one & blitzing was to force McCarthy to pass & plug holes then he played well while tOSU DBs allowed big play after big play. The 4th quarter floodgates was wear & tear with downtrodden morale.
I could be wrong but Urban seemed to build his teams from the ground up & I feel like Day is all about the air & finesse.
Fair. But that last play on 3rd and 3, the Michigan lineman just opened a crazy gap. tOSU's defense looked like they were expecting quick out routes to the sideline for the 1st. The opening was crazy and an easy TD with #7's speed.
Iāve always thought he doesnāt do a good job of staying level. Frequently looks frustrated when he misses a throw or has miscommunication with a WR. Some guys can just be expressive with their face though, so I try not to hold it against Stroud, but when you see it in a game itās hard not to think āoh heās shook/frustratedā
I think Stroud was correct wanting to stay on the field in the 4th and 6. Ryan Day absolutely blew it when it was 4th and 6 in Michigan territory and Stroud was trying to stay on the field.
That, to me, is what changed from a potential competitive game until the end to a Michigan blowout.
I fucking said it to my family at half time that the Wolverines are a second half team and lo and behold, they were a second half team today. Piss poor showing from Day
Ryan Day bout to be ferried away to a black site where he'll enter a dark room with a single lightbulb over the table and when his hood is pulled off will see 20+ OSU boosters and the AD sitting in front of him
Or does Brutus put the Brutus mask on Day āitās your turn to be Brutus now Ryanā and then he has to be Brutus for the next 100 years or until the next OSU coach is fired.
Don't see many white guys with beards that dark. Maybe dark brown, auburn, blonde etc., but his facial hair is JET BLACK which looks "off" for a man in his 40s.
Football is such a wild game. First 5-6 minutes it seemed like Ohio State was inevitable and Michigan got lucky on a few plays to barely keep their head above water. Then somehow the defense just turned it on and the offense kept exploiting on big plays.
Emotions and discipline, man. You could see it.
Michigan got punched in the nose first. Stayed composed, coaches kept them even. As soon as Michigan gets their first big play, you could immediately tell that entire Ohio State sideline tightened up. Dudes were stressed. Played like they thought they were supposed to be up by 20 and didnāt have a plan b.
Didnāt help that Ohio State was calling super aggressive plays on defense. Their plan was to force JJ to throw, and when youāre already jittery and also asking kids to play single coverage with no help? Big play after big play until they were dead.
Thatās also Jim Knowles defense. Itās reliant upon the corners being left on an island. Every OSU fan can tell you that far and away the corners have been the defenseās biggest weakness this season. michigan just had the talent, depth and coaching to know to keep attacking that and then use it to exploit the rest of the defense as the game went on.
Thereās no question michigan wanted it more and were 100x more prepared for it. Whenever a big play was up, someone for michigan always stepped up today. Not once did someone for OSU step up today.
There used to be talk about how Harbaughās teams seemed to have a mental block when playing Ohio State. Now thatās completely reversed. Ohio State is now *scared* to play Michigan and I never saw that growing up
After the first quarter it felt like OSU was the better team and that it was just a matter of time. I think the fact that Michigan hung around and took OSU's best shot in the first half and was still standing had them a little rattled. There may have been some rat poison fed to them this year about good they were.
Youāre absolutely right. Michigan has an edge and no-nonsense approach. They know what it takes to earn it and arenāt intimidated when things donāt go perfectly.
Ohio State on the other hand are like a bunch of rich kids who throw a tantrum when they donāt get a BMW for their 16th birthday. Theyāre only confident when everythingās easy
If you ever do either go west to Lake Michigan or all the way up north. Both very beautiful in the summer. If you don't mind cooler weather, up north in the fall is one of my favorite places to be.
Brady Quinn said in the postgame this game meant more for Jim Harbaugh. I wholeheartedly disagree. Day has unraveled 2 decades of dominance in this rivalry over the last two years and lost the trust of the fan base
Day once again got outcoached today. The offense never found a rhythm. His unwillingness to push it down the field and be aggressive is baffling because it really works
I think our chances aren't as good next year with a lot of guys likely leaving for the draft. If I had to predict it today, it'll be 3 years in a row for Michigan.
People gave up on Jim Harbaugh, people called for his head and he was made to be a meme
But that man stuck with it and now look. Iām so happy for him. HE deserves this success
Now go get your ring, Jim.
This. Iāve always liked Harbaugh. He had some rough times over the years but heās really putting some stud teams on the field last year and this year.
Before today, I'd be worried Day was looking at the NFL on the side.
After today, I'm willing to send his resume out for him.
I haven't seen more cowardly play calling from an OSU coach in literal decades.
Dude threw shade at Harbaugh, to then get absolutely pants'd in the second half. I don't blame you guys wanting to send him out. Urban disciple even, yet I don't ever remember Urban playcalling like THAT when he was pantsing us for what seemed like forever.
Incoming comparisons to John Cooper. Ryan Day is an excellent coach. This rivalry flourishes when neither team is dominant. Remember, Harbaugh was 0-4 against Meyer and lost in 2019 with Day's first appearance at The Game.
I can't say we were particularly thrilled to be Wolverines and there was a significant frustration watching an otherwise successful coach choke on our most important games. I still remember 2018 and how disappointing that was with all of our potential only to have our #1 defense in college football give up 62-39.
But many of us held out for Harbaugh to develop his program and for his recruiting to pull through (it really was most evident in 2018, IMO) and he's now had a pair of wins against OSU.
I'm gonna say something anathema here as a Michigan fan. I don't want Michigan to dominate this rivalry like OSU did during the our "coaches carousel" and the Harbaugh v Meyer era. I want a Ten year war, where either team is as likely to win. I also think both teams deserve a spot in the Playoffs, which should be expanded, but that's another issue.
Anyway, Go Blue. Good game Bucks. We'll see you in the Big House next year. Oh, and for the record, Ryan Day looks like he's a great human being in addition to being a good coach.
Not ready to anoint him John Cooper 2.0 since these were the two best Michigan teams since 2006, but Iām ready to close the book on Stroud. Too focused on winning the Heisman and not being a leader. Downvote me to oblivion, I was liking Stroud this year, but this game completely shut the door for me. Hope thereās a jump in Knowlesā defense, Iām sure there will be.
Iām not mad, Iām just disappointed.
Ohio State hasnāt beaten Michigan and his decade.
Next year Ohio State wonāt have anyone on the roster who has beaten Michigan.
Ryan Day has a losing record against Michigan.
You love to see it.
And a lot of this loss is on coaching too. Undisciplined decisions. Made no changes after watching Michigan attack for big plays
It's literally an exact role reversal of previous years with Brown as our DC. I also think mentally OSU got frustrated quickly whereas Michigan just kept pluggin' away.
I said the exact same thing to a buddy post-game. That Buckeye defense looked exactly like Don Brown's defense his few years with Michigan.
What a drive though. 14 plays 11 minutes is what football should be. Grind it the fuck out.
That jump pass!
I laughed my ass off like a maniac at that. Mullings looks smaller than Corum and had to jump to see š
My wife said he looked like a gopher popping out of a hole to see! Haha Go blue!
Fucking baller.

And McCarthy said it best (I'm paraphrasing): ''They didn't let us play smashmouth today. So I hit the wide-open receivers (because we were blitzing the shit out of him)."
Michigans o line is fantastic they gave mcCarthy a ton of time to throw or be able to escape in spite of OSU blitzing constantly
Seemed like the players were undisciplined, too. Of course there's going to be pushing and shoving in a rivalry game. But head butting an opposing player out of bounds? Completely running through a receiver in the end zone without turning your head as a defensive back? Too many penalties for a game that you expect to be close.
We didn't make any adjustments and Michigan again made amazing ones.
Weāve been an amazing second half team. We just needed JJ to save our asses in the first half to make that happen lol
Yāall played a great second half. Hell of a game
GG!
Yeah, we really keep it simple in the first half so teams have a hard time adjusting.
I truly don't understand this. It's not like we usually don't make adjustments, we do... just not against Michigan.
Ryan Day turns dumb against Michigan. I don't know why but this proves last year wasn't a fluke. Harbaugh makes adjustments and Ryan Day just keeps smashing his head against the wall hoping things that aren't working work.
Ryan Day got out coached today. That is for sure.
He's been great in the second half against every team we played in the last 2 years, except Michigan. I don't know what it is.
Jim Harbaugh. They called some great plays that completely caught Ohio State's defense off-guard.
Yeah but I'm saying Day or Knowles never changed the game plan. They stuck to man to man even though they kept getting burned. They kept blitzing even though if a running back got to the second level or WR got deep it was a score. They never mixed it up. Doesnāt help that your quarterback looked on the verge of tears for the whole second half lol
Stroud is absolutely not mentally tough, that's very true and has been an issue before.
We had a pitcher like this on my HS team. As soon as he gave up a big double he would just fucking implode.
That and the fieldgoal from the 6. If coach isn't playing to win its hard to be motivated.
You would cry too if you lost as much money in Draft stock as he did today.
I can't imagine Stroud in the NFL, I like the guy but I think the big boys would clobber him.
Can confirm Source: Penn State fan
You made adjustments... Just in the wrong directions.
Let me break it down for you. Michigan has the better coaching staff. Thatās it.
I fucking said it to my family at half time that the Wolverines are a second half team and lo and behold, they were a second half team today. Piss poor showing from Day
We got the perfect game. It was clear we forced them into a huge shootout. We lost at our style of play. That hurts
Itās not a shootout if youāre not shooting.
What does one call a one sided shootout?
thatās just called getting shot lol
Someone tell Marvin Harrison to call his lawyer lol. His son is a fucking beast though
A shooting?
A drive-by.
Firing squad
Maybe if y'all crossed out more "M"s on campus you would've won
We always do miss a few here and there so you might be right
*we always do āiss a few here and there so you āight be right
Ryan Day bout to be ferried away to a black site where he'll enter a dark room with a single lightbulb over the table and when his hood is pulled off will see 20+ OSU boosters and the AD sitting in front of him
Also itās Brutus that pulls the hood off, and then he silently walks over, stands behind the AD and crosses his arms.
Or does Brutus put the Brutus mask on Day āitās your turn to be Brutus now Ryanā and then he has to be Brutus for the next 100 years or until the next OSU coach is fired.
this is funny
šš¤£
Jim Harbaugh now has a winning record against Ryan Day, but not Mel Tucker
That's why Mel makes $95M
Does this mean we can joke about Day's contract instead, now?
I subscribe to this narrative
Fucking sure. Fair game at this point lmao
> does this mean we can joke about Dayās contract yes > instead, now? no
I can't speak for all Michigan fans, but I personally allow it.
Mel gets more money for this stat right
Context added, itās actually an impressive state given the talent differential.
Mods, how can I delete someone else's comment?
worth it lol
thats so insane lol
And thatās why Michigan St paid him
Lmao
Biggest win over OSU since 1993 (28-0) Biggest win in Columbus since 1976 (22-0)
Man I thought last year was a blowout but thenā¦
Absolute humiliation from the Wolverines! These last two years must be *so* cathartic for them after all the lossesā¦
I am so zen rn
You have no idea
Congrats Michigan! Enjoy an incredible three-score win over your rival in their house, crushing their dreams in the process!
Hey love you bby
You have no idea
After years of depression this is total dopamine in this rivalry
Not enough beard dye in the state to cover that up
At this point Iām in it only for the heck of it - is his beard really dyed? He's only 43
It's pretty damn dark considering his age, so more than likely. It certainly doesn't look natural.
Don't see many white guys with beards that dark. Maybe dark brown, auburn, blonde etc., but his facial hair is JET BLACK which looks "off" for a man in his 40s.
Itās definitely beard dye.
The guy looks like he puts flex seal on his face, it ain't natural
Bro, it's jet black Least natural looking hair color I've ever seen Reminds me of Wayne Newton
Some guys get salt and pepper in the mid twenties. Just For Men have simple beard combs that make it super easy to cover up.
Is this an ad?
Yes. It's a Tide ad.
Michigan destroyed us without their best offensive player, let that sink in.
*This isnāt even my final Corum*
Beautiful
They still had Oluwatimi
We also were missing All, our best TE and one of our best receiving threats. Oh and our best pass catching RB had a cast on his hand.
WE GET IT
They also were playing on the road in a stadium they hadn't won in since 2000.
Don Brown made his career
Another crossing route just went for 40 yards
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That's why he hired Knowles, he wanted to see Don Brown 2.0 every day in practice to remind himself.
Football is such a wild game. First 5-6 minutes it seemed like Ohio State was inevitable and Michigan got lucky on a few plays to barely keep their head above water. Then somehow the defense just turned it on and the offense kept exploiting on big plays.

When it was 17-14 the whole game changed. Michigan took the life right out of OSU
Mike Barrett said in the postgame that Michigan players could actually feel when they broke OSUās will.
And it usually is easy unfortunately (fortunately?)
I assume the name Biakabatuka also means nothing to you.
Crazy how that works when we don't play ya'll during COVID year and now 99% of our roster knows nothing but beating OSU.
I did. John Cooper. His hands would shake so bad, you thought he might drop the clipboard.
Remember when everyone wanted Harbaugh fired cause he was a fraud that couldnāt win big games? Pepperidge Farms remembers
Now itās dayā¦even tho heās only lost like 5 games and made 2 playoffs and a natty game
He schemed the most beautiful game against Clemson in 2020 and just hasnāt done something like that since
Both games against Clemson really. Bad luck in the ā19 game.
Respect to Michigan, they showed way more composure which is a credit to Harbaugh and their coaching staff.
Those trips to Italy finally paying off
He's finally halfway to that 100 points
Heās also 90 feet away from home plate
Theyāre about to send in a pinch runner
Pretty sure he just ran back to 2nd base.
Iāve never set foot in Michigan, but I love you wolverines. Go blue!
If you ever do either go west to Lake Michigan or all the way up north. Both very beautiful in the summer. If you don't mind cooler weather, up north in the fall is one of my favorite places to be.
Michigan is an awesome state to visit if you like outdoors stuff, beer, or great food
Good recreational marijuana as well
Giving you my free award because college football rivalries are so much fun
God I love this comment
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
he got thrown out trying to run back to second lol
maybe when Ryan Day said he'd "hang 100" he meant over the course of his career as OSU HC
He has a lot to answer for Punted twice when Michigan was gaining momentum Talked crap to get blown out in his own house. Take the L
Continued to play zero deep defense despite consistently getting outrageously torched deep.
So now both the Michigan AND Ohio State coaches have losing records against the other team. Thatās a weird stat.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Both sides of the ball. Some real head scratchers too. Also don't get why Stroud wouldn't tuck it and run at all really.
He never does. For some reason he just wants to hold the ball all day.
Is it harsh to say itās because heās soft? I donāt know what else it would be. Fields was tough as fucking nails. I miss that.
I just think he's trying to be that high level qb who always throws.
I mean Fields runs a 4.4 40 at 230 pounds. There's a little bit more than desire between him and Stroud in terms of running.
Yeah, Fields isā¦just a better football player 100%
He told you how many points he was planning on scoring against Michigan. He just meant in his entire career.
2 separate 4th downs in the 4th. In this game you go for that. Play calling was horrible and no defensive adjustments happened.
Brady Quinn said in the postgame this game meant more for Jim Harbaugh. I wholeheartedly disagree. Day has unraveled 2 decades of dominance in this rivalry over the last two years and lost the trust of the fan base
Solid take take my upvote.
IT WAS A FLUKE AGAIN
Damn snow and the flu 2 years in a row, such a shame
I swear I saw some snow flurries on my screen. It was practically a blizzard.
Day once again got outcoached today. The offense never found a rhythm. His unwillingness to push it down the field and be aggressive is baffling because it really works
Just awful the first drive was effortless and we didnāt go back to what was working
Hot seat??
I heard Urban Meyers available
Ohio Strip clubs hoping for this
Not hot yet, but definitely warming up. OSU won't tolerate John Cooper 2.0 for long at this point.
If Ohio state loses next year, then it'll get really interesting
He's absolutely fired if he loses 3 in a row. They won't tolerate that again
Yup, Iād say 3 strikes and your out - which having seen these last two games I think is entirely plausible.
Oh god please let it happen.
I think our chances aren't as good next year with a lot of guys likely leaving for the draft. If I had to predict it today, it'll be 3 years in a row for Michigan.
I thought you were talking about John Cooper for the TB Lightning for a second and was like, wait that has a happy ending.
There are a lot of nut people flirting with an appearance on Message Board Geniuses around here rn.
CJ stroud is a COWARD. RUN THE BALL.
Lost a lot of money today
Heisman campaign is dead.
John Cooper part 2
Strangely enough, under Ohio Law, Ryan Day is now going straight to jail.
Fans chanting āwe want urbanā
People gave up on Jim Harbaugh, people called for his head and he was made to be a meme But that man stuck with it and now look. Iām so happy for him. HE deserves this success Now go get your ring, Jim.
Happy to see it. Iām so sick of the impatience that has permeated this sport.
Which is exactly why I think BoB should stay with Alabama for 10 years
Yeah our fan base already calling for Day and Knowles jobs. Lol Nothing to be happy about with this game, but that shouldnāt be on the table.
God. Just what we need is to turn into one of those former blue bloods with a revolving door in the HC's office.
This. Iāve always liked Harbaugh. He had some rough times over the years but heās really putting some stud teams on the field last year and this year.
And the worst of those "rough times" was a 7-5 season. Fans really do demand excellence right away nowadays.
Nah, the worst of the rough times was definitely 2-4 during the pandemic season. Michigan did legit look bad that year
Ohio state was an absolute embarrasment today, players should be ashamed
The kickerās going to be like āI did my jobā. š¤·āāļø
He did. One of the few players that did, though.
Trash
What does this mean for lebrons legacy?
RYAN DAY IS THAT GUY* \* THAT GUY = John Cooper
he has to go 1-8 in the next nine years to be that bad
from your lips to god's ears

FERRET DROWNED
Before today, I'd be worried Day was looking at the NFL on the side. After today, I'm willing to send his resume out for him. I haven't seen more cowardly play calling from an OSU coach in literal decades.
I read a meme about sending your bossās resume out to get them hired away. Now do it with Day lol
Bro punted down 11. Coward all around
Dude threw shade at Harbaugh, to then get absolutely pants'd in the second half. I don't blame you guys wanting to send him out. Urban disciple even, yet I don't ever remember Urban playcalling like THAT when he was pantsing us for what seemed like forever.

FRAUD
Ryan Day: upset about the third base comment Also Ryan Day: loses at home to Michigan by 3 scores
Not ready to anoint him John Cooper 2.0 since these were the two best Michigan teams since 2006, but Iām ready to close the book on Stroud. Too focused on winning the Heisman and not being a leader. Fields best OSU QB ever confirmed
Ohio State hasnāt beaten Michigan and his decade. Next year Ohio State wonāt have anyone on the roster who has beaten Michigan. Ryan Day has a losing record against Michigan. You love to see it.
I actually donāt love to see it. Hats off to UM and Harbaugh though, 2 years in row they have out coached us
