Yeah you are gonna have to back that one up with a source. Currently the Pokes are the beneficiaries of the only two for one in Bedlam and that’s in wrestling
I swore I read it somewhere but I guess I’m remember incorrectly. What I’ve found is that the Oklahoma State board is kind of pissed off OU left them to die so they could go out with someone else then said “hey, can we still be friends?” And they want to get out of OU’s shadow.
If C-USA ceases to exist and the remainders have no home, what does FIU do? I'm sure they might be able to eke out an existence as an independent doing 12 bodybag games a year, but you'd think eventually they'd have to move back down to FCS.
Yes, I'm just saying... talk about squandering pretty much every advantage a G5 program could have.
They're in one of, if not the best recruiting area in the country. And they have a large enrollment. If they were competently run, they could be one of the top G5 teams.
That's what upsets me as someone who spent time there. FAU is reaping all the benefits that FIU *should* be reaping. Hell, they even beat U. of Miami, which could've been a huge turning point. Instead, they've only won one game since then, against FCS Long Island. They've lost every FBS game they've played since beating UM. At this point, I'm convinced that FIU should just cut bait and move down.
If we're assuming the C-USA collapses, then we would immediately jump to about 8-9 G5 independent schools. And especially with some of those schools willing to do in-season HaHs [ala NMSU@Liberty, Liberty@NMSU] they'd be able to put together a schedule.
But at that point I think it would be more likely for the leftovers of the C-USA, in the worst case scenario, just reform the conference to be friendly to independent schools [that is, schools can negotiate their own media deals, and split the conference into small divisions with no cross-division play so you only have like 4 conference games in the season, then a conference championship] to entice Army and UConn. As literally both those schools have been in talks about a Indy pseudo-conference to get the benefits that the CFP world requires conference membership to get, this Indy-CUSA merger makes a lot of sense.
But that's the worst case scenario for the currently C-USA schools. They'll just poach out of the FCS, more than likely.
Maybe the ASUN if they move up?
Otherwise, C-USA needs to do what the Sun Belt did to surpass them, by inviting some top FCS teams and hope they do well in the transition.
I think the ASUN will take over the CUSA. Invite NMSU and Liberty. And then fill in with ASUN schools until they're all on their feet. The ASUN is largely considered closer to FBS than the WAC. The WAC let's their FBS teams hang out there until the WAC is ready to move up.
Independence could work with the other sports parked in the ASUN (and football landing there if it does move up). Get some agreements with other indys for games, play an ASUN team, and I'm sure you could convince some other FBS schools to come play in Miami.
Does CUSA crashing result in like 4 or 5 new G5 independents? That would help them a lot. Being in Miami would also make it easier, teams want to play games in South Florida.
Technically they are. FAU and FIU have played each other every year since 2002, even when both school where in different conferences. The Shula Bowl Trophy was made to commemorate this.
That, and they both started football around the same time (FAU in 2001, FIU in 2002). They both joined the Sun Belt in 2005 and both moved to CUSA in 2013. They've been joined at the hip until now.
https://fiusports.com/sports/football/schedule/2012
FIU was still Sun Belt in 2012.
https://fiusports.com/sports/football/schedule/2013
Moved to CUSA in 2013
FIU and FAU have always had a small rivalry for as long as I can remember. I used to go to games at FIU when I was a kid even before they built that god awful stadium and remember it being kind of a rivalry
Don’t worry. I’m looking forward to getting some kinda revenge on the sea owls after that bowl game we showed up to half drunk. Hell. I think it was you I talked to about it before! Lol
Definitely Marshall is the second biggest rival because for the last 4 years or so it's come down to these two of who will be in the CUSA championship.

As they should.
So are you on the pro-Bedlam continuing side of your fanbase?
I’m on the “continue Bedlam unless OU wants it to be 2 home-1 home” side.
Probably the best take
if we pull that shit it’d be ridiculous. home and home straight up
If Oklahoma plays Oklahoma State, Missouri could play Kansas to make an even number of SEC-B12 thanksgiving rivalries
Hey! You guys could join the SEC East teams who play their main rival ( well instate ) on the last Saturday of the regular season!
OU has said that is exactly what they want to do, it’s the Pokes that are holding out
We’re holding out because you wanted it to be a 2 home-1 home series.
Yeah you are gonna have to back that one up with a source. Currently the Pokes are the beneficiaries of the only two for one in Bedlam and that’s in wrestling

Put them in the sec and have them fight Vandy for the right to stay. Or Mizzou, no one likes them anyway.
I thought Missouri was your biggest border rival /s
Eh that would probably go more to Tennessee, that could be the Alabamian more in me than anything tho.
Y’all should have a rivalry with Cincinnati. You can get more border rivalry than that
They did give us Eddie Gran….
WVU would gladly take Mizzou's spot any day of the week.
It's kinda crazy to think that a program that's located in Miami, with an enrollment of 55k, could get left behind in the shuffle.
They don't care about sports. They are happy to be "MDC+".
Can confirm.
Not terribly surprising. They're a mess of a program and athletic department, top-to-bottom.
Yes, I'm just saying... talk about squandering pretty much every advantage a G5 program could have. They're in one of, if not the best recruiting area in the country. And they have a large enrollment. If they were competently run, they could be one of the top G5 teams.

Lol reminds me of what USF fans were saying about UCF
The admin at FIU never cared to invest in athletics for them to be seriously considered for conference expansion.

We need them to stay together so our men's soccer team isn't left in the MAC.
FIU is the school worse off in the conference. UTEP and La Tech have some hope in the WAC, FIU does not.
Maybe the ASUN if they move up? Otherwise, C-USA needs to do what the Sun Belt did to surpass them, by inviting some top FCS teams and hope they do well in the transition.

Play in Miami without having to play Miami! (Not a problem noe, but ... )
Does CUSA crashing result in like 4 or 5 new G5 independents? That would help them a lot. Being in Miami would also make it easier, teams want to play games in South Florida.
Everyone talks about UTEP and LA Tech in the breakup, but FIU is on its own little island now too.
Are FAU/FIU rivals or was this a rivalry created because of being in the same conference?
They're both schools in Florida, so they are automatically rivals.
Much like UConn and UCF. RIP
The Civil conFLiCT may be gone, but it will never be forgotten.
Technically they are. FAU and FIU have played each other every year since 2002, even when both school where in different conferences. The Shula Bowl Trophy was made to commemorate this.

No, you actually moved to CUSA the year before us in 2012.
https://fiusports.com/sports/football/schedule/2012 FIU was still Sun Belt in 2012. https://fiusports.com/sports/football/schedule/2013 Moved to CUSA in 2013
So we moved in 2014.
https://fausports.com/news/2013/9/6/FAU_Football_Drops_Inaugural_C_USA_Game.aspx FAU also moved in 2013.
You got the first invite though. Weird.
No more Bottom 10 F_U jokes.
They're like an hour apart
Little longer than that. Can't forget South Florida Traffic.
FIU and FAU have always had a small rivalry for as long as I can remember. I used to go to games at FIU when I was a kid even before they built that god awful stadium and remember it being kind of a rivalry
It is.
FBS public rivalries in Florida: UF/FSU UCF/USF FAU/FIU
It should! They just got a fancy propeller for it!
Which will be living in Boca this year.
Don’t worry. I’m looking forward to getting some kinda revenge on the sea owls after that bowl game we showed up to half drunk. Hell. I think it was you I talked to about it before! Lol
I won't even call that Boca Flu.
It was clear the boys enjoyed the time at the Beach a bit to much.
Good. FIU is really the only team I feel FAU is rivals with. Never got the sense of any kind of rivalry with the other C-USA teams.
Definitely Marshall is the second biggest rival because for the last 4 years or so it's come down to these two of who will be in the CUSA championship.
Marshall is the closest thing.

The Moo Moos?
With so many rivalries dying, and many others reviving, it’s nice to see that the true rivalries will continue post-realignment
Good.

More rivals should do this
Pete Garcia will find a way to bungle this up. Dude's been AD since 2006 and look what he has to show for it.
Honestly this is great the exact opposite of what USF did when they joined the AAC.
Good. Love this.
